Cute french bistro feel, but I really come here for the awesome Huevos Rancheros.... is that weird? No way Jose, because they're awesome. The eggs are made over easy and the tortillas are fried, but don't fret, you can ask for them to just be pan cooked vs deep fried. The salsa was not too spicy and the whole thing was served over black beans. The coffee here is also great. Came here for a late dinner on a Friday night. Overpriced and average American fare. I had the salmon with risotto, which was reasonably portioned & kind of salty, but I had it with a glass of sancerre and that was good. Good wine usually makes mediocre food taste better (or at the very least, it improves the quality of the dining experience). And it makes me feel classy ;) I may come back for brunch when the weather warms up to see what makes the outdoor seating so special. read more

I came here with a friend for brunch, after checking out the reviews for a brunch joint around the TriBeCa / Little Italy neighborhoods. I enjoyed the Scrambled Eggs Tostadas + Rancheros sauce (spicy!), an interesting combo of eggs scrambled with tortilla chips. A Mexican spin on "Matzah brie," for the Jews out there who know what I'm talking about. My friend had a standard omelette. Both were good, but nothing amazing. Apart from my $3 shot glass of OJ, both entrees were a good value, and I recall that Mimosas and Bloody Marys are $5 with any brunch entree. Service was friendly and efficient as it should be, but again, nothing spectacular. I would come back if I wanted a quick bite in the area - breakfast, lunch or dinner, but I think I'll continue to explore better brunches across the city. read more

I'm not sure how or why, but there's always one or two hotties sitting at the bar. Any time of day - there they are, sitting there, eating a salad or sipping white wine. It's strange - they're not always the same people either. It's like those seats are reserved for professional females in their 20's who are hot. It's worth going just to see them. Edward's is a French looking American bistro on West Broadway in Tribeca. The restaurants few blocks North on West Broadway are situated on a part of the street with even less traffic, but the outdoor seating here is pretty nice too. Enjoy their crab cakes with a lemon beurre blanc sauce or if you are lucky their watermelon gazpacho on a warm day. On Wednesdays they have half price bottles of wine among their list which is pretty affordable to begin with. I don't remember the last time I had two bottles of French sparkling wine for $26! read more

I am learning the spots in Tribeca more and more lately and I've been here twice in the past few weeks. I'm really picky about my veggie/vegan burgers because they're often 1) mushroom based (eek!) 2) mushy. I ordered the vegan burger here and it's EXCELLENT. So delicious. Amazing fries. Tribeca French inspired bistro with eye catching decor - paintings and rows and rows of wine bottles all lined up in the walls. Service was quick and pleasant, and the waiter recommended (no, raved) the peppered yellowfin tuna, which came with japanese rice and broccoli. The tuna was seared lightly and it was GOOD, but not as spectacular as the waiter made it out to be. If he had been a little less enthusiastic about the dish, I might ahve enjoyed it more. Be as it may, the rice was cooked in butter which might be a delight to some but since I cannot eat butter the smell nauseated me. So I just stuck to the tuna and filled my hunger with the special appetizers they had on display (taco wraps) which were very delicious. All in all, I found Edwards to be a great place to enjoy a drink and a nice meal in Tribeca but it was a bit overpriced for the quality and portion of the food. Solid 3 stars. read more

It is what it is: a dependable place to grab grub, especially late-night. Wednesday night has half-priced bottles of wine -- which is always nice. And they have many decent wines. Most of the menu is get-what-you-see -- which is good, but it is a tad expensive for the fare. The seared tuna is decent, the steak and fries is good as are their salad offerings. Stay away from the burgers and Cincinnati night (too crowded). Sunday brunch is ok, too -- especially the spicy, chilikillies... But be prepared to take your time. read more

Not too good and not too bad. The food is very diner-ish, nothing tastes really fresh or organic. Perhaps the mushrooms in the omelets are canned? I like them because they are open early Sundays and it's a skip away. The servers are friendly and they can make a mean cappuccino. read more

So moving on. what we ate - turkey burger, grilled tuna sandwich the food was ok. we were out for something casual and both enjoyed our sandwiches which were nice portions served with fries. nothing really special though and a little pricey at $14 and $17. also my fries were a little too crispy, bordering on burnt. atmosphere - yikes. if you come here i suggest sitting outside if the weather is nice. we were in the back and the booth was incredibly uncomfortable. tables are very close together (it wasnt crowded so wasnt an issue but could be). kitchen is loud. and the lights kept flickering for the first 10 minutes or so we were seated. really not much going for it on this front. overall i might go back for a bottle of wine outside on a wednesday but that's about it. read more

Ordered: Turkey burger with sauteed broccoli. Ambiance: The restaurant is narrow, with a touch of outdoor seating. Booths and tables inside. Mirrors on the wall with chalked-on wine and beer lists. Neon, of course. Old, dusty, empty wine and still water bottles line the high areas of the walls. A single bathroom. These are the most interesting things I can say about the place. Food: The turkey burger was good enough - extra large patty (had to be close to a half pound, cooked) with a substantial amount of finely chopped green onion. Toasted bun, which was a bit wet when I went to handle the sandwich, but was otherwise fine. Sliced tomato and onion and a large lettuce leaf. Sauteed broccoli tasted just like you probably imagine. The meal didn't wow me but was good enough to earn three stars. Cost: $12 for the turkey burger + $2 for the green vegetable substitute. Summary: This place was not a yawner. I am, however, not desperate to go back right away. Some of the other food platters I saw looked good, though, so I suppose this place could be four star worthy depending on what you order. read more

This place was exactly what I was looking for - a good breakfast after a night of over indulgence. Almost all of their breakfast dishes come with fries - a delicious omlette and fries to help my hungover stomach was perfect! I like the decor - it's kind of old-school diner-ish and the prices were very reasonable - especially for Tribeca - unfortunately that is probably what attracted the several families with their screaming kids which did not help my hangover at all. Service could definitely be better (or also much worse) but the food came out really quickly - so all in all I would definitely go back and just hope to miss the kiddie rush. read more

Stopped in as I was walking north after a visit to One World Observatory on a tourist day. I sat at the bar and asked the bar tender if there was an outlet I could plug my phone in. There's one at the end furthest from the door, so I got a full charge while there which was great. Great customer service. The bar tender was always nearby and refilled my soda without me requesting. I ordered the grilled fresh tuna (photo posted). I got the sautéed broccoli on the side rather than the cole slaw. No up-charge for the change, which was nice. The tuna was excellent and they served it very rare, per my order. The wasabi mayo was a perfect amount of spice (I like spicy things). And the bread was soft in the middle but had an excellent crunchy crust. The veggies on the sandwich were fresh, crunchy, and there were a lot of tomatoes (I love tomatoes) so the sandwich was happily filling. They even had the NY Times at the bar so I read that while waiting, and even after I had finished eating. Overall a great meal. I arrived around 1 pm and it held me over until dinner around 9:30 pm. This is a fun find in Tribeca, with a diner-style decor that will make you think you're living in a New York of a different era. An early Sunday dinner here (one of us had the tuna burger and fries; the other, the burger with blue cheese and fries) had good service but there was one major oversight on the part of the kitchen: heaping doses of horseradish on both the tuna burger and the blue cheese burger. Either way--if a line chef slopped on the horseradish, thinking it was mayo; or if someone in the kitchen took it upon themselves to correct the seasoning--I prefer to spike my burger myself, thanks. Hands off the horseradish. Oh--and there was no indication on the menu that horseradish came with either of these. I'm not in a terrible rush to go back, but I would like to see what else they do. But next time, I'll make sure to ask for all toppings on the side. read more

My husband and I came here with our 10 year old daughter. They were quick to accommodate us with outside seating. Delivered tasty wine and outstanding food. Our particular favorites were the, Savory vinaigrette salad with warmed goat cheese and croutons, Amazing Amish roasted chicken, the rigatoni tomato cream sauce and the delicious ravioli. The ambiance tops it off. We loved it and will be back for more. Would have given 5 stars except the listed apple crisp is really an apple crumble :) But still yummy! read more

Edward's interior has a comfortable, French art deco vibe with sunlight streaming in from the large, front windows. The crowd consists of typical "Tribecanites"; a mix of young professionals, and fledgling families. One wouldn't want drink too many mimosas for fear of drunkenly tripping over one of the many strollers crowding the entrance. (This is not a rager brunch). Menu options range from salads, to quesadillas, to pastas, to burgers to omelettes. I can see why the families frequent, apart from the kids menu, there is literally something for everyone. Brunch purist that I am, I ordered the Omelette (3 items) with spinach, mushrooms and a dash of swiss cheese. The omelette was well cooked, and I was happy they agreed to sub out the fries for salad. My squeeze, who was in the middle of a carbo-load (don't ask, he's a crazy fitness nut) ordered the Huevos Rancheros with eggs, cheddar cheese, tostada, and black beans & pico de gallo. All in all, a very tasty dish, perfect for carbo loading (terrible for brunch chick's attempt at forming a semblance of toned obliques) My date didn't want a mimosa, but for the good of brunchers everywhere I had to order a mimosa. There is no unlimited brunch drink special (which is probably a good thing, considering the obstacle course of strollers by the entrance, and for the sake of presenting a non-alcoholic image to my date), but they do offer a $5.00 mimosa or Bloody Mary with a brunch entree. This place is a staple. Of all the wonderful restaurants in the neighborhood, we consistently come to Edwards. High quality burger and fries, if that's your thing. You can also go for the penne and most of their fish is also very good. I've had the steak before, but wished I had ordered the salmon as my dining-mate had. Ambience is wonderful. The best lighting a restaurant could have. The lighting makes everyone look radiant. Great for a date for this reason alone. They had us wait for 1 hour before seating us (we would've gone elsewhere, but we weren't about to wait a whole month). The manager was barely apologetic. I went for lunch. They had a special: "Roast Chicken Whole Wheat Wrap with Onion and Jalapeño". I ordered it. It arrived. I took one bite and was surprised and grossed-out. It was hot. Hot and greasy. Pretty much the opposite of what a Whole Wheat wrap should ever be. It was filled with oily pieces of chicken mixed in with some equally oily onions and peppers. I took one bite. Just one. The waitress came over and asked how I liked it and I told her I didn't like it. Wraps are not usually served hot. She just shrugged and walked away. Didn't offer to replace it. Didn't offer to take it off my bill. Just shrugged. Then another person (manager?) came by and asked if I liked it. I told her "No. If a wrap is to be served hot, it should be indicated on the menu." She agreed and asked if I wanted anything else. I just asked for the check. They charged me $12 for that wrap! No discount. No offer to take it off the bill. This place is crazy. read more

Can't comment on the food - made a Thanksgiving reservation for 8 at 8pm (4 kids, 2 families). Made it one month in advance, confirmed the night before as we were traveling to NY for a basketball tournament. Received a call on Thanksgiving day at NOON saying they were closing at 6 and we had to now come in at 4:30 - hard since that's when the basketball tournament started. Asked to speak to owner, Edward who was rude and uncaring about the situation. This place has a lovely vibe and the service was great. The food was not as good as the rest. We ordered fried calamari and we had to send it back because we didn't like the batter. It was salty and just not good in general. They were very nice about us sending it back and shortly after they came back with another plate that the chef had made with a fresh batter. It was still not great so we couldn't eat it and again without us asking they took it off the table and the bill. We also had the blackened salmon which was great and the rigatoni which was wayyyy too al dente. I had to pack it to go and cook it some more at home. The flavor was great but I wasn't a big fan of the super hard and chewy pasta. We were served by a lovely woman with short dark hair. She was really sweet and attentive to our needs. Stopped in for breakfast and completely regretted the decision. The proprietors made uninspired choices with the breakfast menu and cooking. Coffee was watery and weak with no aroma. Huevos Racheros (highlighted on the menu) lacked any sort of flavor or seasoning. I ate the food for sustenance but didn't enjoy the food. Preface: I've never written a review for Yelp, but this is kind of egregious for a Tribeca restaurant. My husband and I stopped in for a bite to eat, first truly cold wintry late afternoon, and we ordered Irish coffees before our food. Not only did bartender NOT know how to make them, and we sent what he made back, but server said she herself didn't know what an Irish coffee was! My husband showed her a picture and she was genuinely surprised. Now this is a pretty basic drink for a Manhattan restaurant of Edward's price category, so I was kind of shocked. It was especially disappointing because we like the feel of the place, and have taken out-of-town friends there often. They can do basic wine out of a botte. It's almost as if they're now letting busboys practice bartending, since this sort of thing happend also recently in another restaurant, in the West Village, with the most basic, cliched of Manhattan drinks: the "bartender" didn't know how to make a "cosmo". I will write separate review on that restaurant. At $12 to $13 a pop, a decent manager really needs to know the skills of those behind his bar. Food: Burger was OK, and steak frites delicious but why on earth do burgers ALWAYS have to come with french fries? Eh, this is place is mediocre at best. I went here with a friend for a Saturday brunch over the summer. The place was packed with neighborhood families and their kids. This is definitely not the type of place to have a relaxing and relatively quiet Saturday brunch. The cacophony of whining kids and their parents subsequently trying to get them to behave can be grating. The food itself is decent and it's only two minutes away from me, but those are the only two bright spots. The Establishment formerly known as The Odeon Bar could very well be called Cheers' NY Extension. Every time I go there I see the same friendly faces and the same guy behind the bar and oddly enough, he thinks he knows my name. The drinks always arrive at a dizzying pace and the bar food is great. I suggest you start with the hot dogs. They have a Tuesday night special called artists night which is perfect for me seeing as how I'm usually coming from my finger painting class. If you do make it down, don't be surprised if you get some love and affection from the bartender and the Jack Russell terrier that has a permanent place at the bar. read more

Steak was burnt on outside and undercooked on inside, soup was bland, and service was, well, not great. Put it this way, rather than a greeting of "hello", "good evening", etc., we were met with a "just two?". And that was about as good as it got. I have lived in TriBeCa for nearly 15 years. Edward's has always been a bit of a stand-by. It is always decent; not great, but decent. That being said, I have not been in quite some time, and boy was I shocked at how downhill this establishment has gone. I was there on a Saturday evening. There was absolutely no issue getting a table as the restaurant was not even half full. Immediately, I thought.....uh oh Lucy....we have a problem! My guest and I were immediately seated. Obviously. After studying the menu for a few minutes, we placed our order with a server named Hasni. He was pleasant enough, but I do not have much else to add here. Our entrees and drinks came out soon after, which was appreciated. And, on a positive note, the food was acceptable; again not great, but acceptable. However, this is where anything positive that I have to say ends. Once our food was delivered that was it. Hasni went totally incommunicado. I had asked for ketchup for my fries. He simply disappeared. I had to track down my own ketchup. When my table ran out of water, there was no Hasni. We had to flag down a bus person. Not once did he check in to see how our dinner was going or if we needed anything. When we finished our entrees, out dirty dishes sat in front of us for nearly 20 minutes. Obviously, no one was watching our table. Mind you, this restaurant was not busy at all. We wanted to have some coffee and dessert, but no one came by our table to ask if we wanted anything else. Our table was totally abandoned. The staff was beyond incompetent. Since our server had gone absentee and we wanted our check to get the hell out of Dodge, I asked a bus person if we could talk to a manager. I was beyond over my server at this point. Shockingly, our server came to the table, not the manager. Since he had absolutely no time for my table all evening, I asked to speak to a manager instead. His response was that he was the "manager" What??? I then took the opportunity to run through all of issues that evening with him. He responded as a defense that he was the server, the bartender, and the manager that evening and that he was sorry for the horrible service. I replied to him, "How exactly is that my problem?" He had no response for me. Given his inability to act as a decent server, I should not have been shocked that he had NO ability to manage the restaurant. This was some of the worst service that I have had in quite some time. I will not be returning to Edward's any time in the near future. I recommend that you do not as well.
