I've been to the Egghead in south SJ, but this is my first time at the Santa Clara location. It was easy to find parking in the plaza and the store wasn't very busy, even around lunch time. Everything was really clean and they had several menus to pick up and look at. We were able to order immediately, then the food was served in about 10-15 minutes. Pretty good service overall and we were also satisfied with the food as well. Hawaiian Morning Sandwich: 4/5 This was sandwich was spam, egg, and spinach in a brioche bun. I liked it, but it was kinda messy bc the sauce was really runny so it got all over the place. The spam went really well with the egg and buns tho. I personally prefer this over the Chic and Side Chic sandwiches that they serve. Waffle Fries: 5/5 Good portion sizes and a great snack to split with friends. Loved the crunch they had. Not much to say here, it tasted like pretty solid waffle fries. Eggy: 4/5 These are baguette slices that you dip into a jar of mashed potatoes, bacon, and egg. I think the mashed potatoes taste really good, especially mixed with the other ingredients. I do think that the bread slices are a little small, so you'd probably get better value out of one of the other items. Also, they gave us the glass jars (not sure if it was by accident or not tho). Sandwiches are good and unique. Had an issue with a staff today, normally everyone here is always nice. I subbed the Hawaiian with scrabbled eggs. Apparently I was "suppose to pay" for that upgrade. I didn't know, she tried to charge me after the sandwich was made and I said it's fine with the egg it comes with then I don't mind. She got mad and gave me attitude because she had to remake it. Then I asked for extra sauce and said she was gonna charge me. They never charged me before and I've never seen them charge anyone else when asked. It made me feel discriminated against. I asked for her name and she wouldn't say. Weird experience, like I said normally everyone is nice. Also, probably they should be more attentive to the tables, they are dirty here a lot and there's no staff at front should have a big sign that says "order on machine." read more

I tried two sandwiches here, the Hawaiian and the bacon breakfast sandwich. I preferred the Hawaiian sandwich more for its subtle sweetness and punch of arugula. The bacon breakfast sandwich was filling and tasted classic. I think next time I would order an extra egg for my sandwich because the egg got lost with everything else going on. Visited for the first time this weekend and ordered THE CHIC which included a fried chicken cutlet with an egg and arugula. The cons: chicken was pretty flavorless from the meat to the batter. It did have a sprinkle of cayenne/paprika but that was the only spice. The "over medium" egg was closer to "over hard" egg, not the slightest bit runny unfortunately. Personal preference, but maybe that is how it is meant to be served. The pros: hot, crispy battered moist chicken! The brioche bun was soft and luckily the spicy Mayo provided flavor to the sandwich. I also ordered the STRAWBERRY HOJICHA LATTE and thought it was very pleasant. It was well balanced between the tea and creaminess, and the strawberry purée was a nice addition. Giving this place 3.8/5! Visiting San Jose so I ordered their The Chic sandwich for delivery. First impression-- the sandwich is huge and the chicken thigh fillet is bigger than the buns. I love how it is crispy though eating it by itself, the spicy seasoning is not evenly balanced that I only got to taste it towards the end. If you eat the chicken by itself, it could also use some more flavors... though again, I appreciate that it is big and crispy. The sandwich comes with egg, arugula, some sauces, and in a brioche bun. Brioche could use some more butter, too, in my opinion. All in all, I didn't get flavor fatigue until towards the end. One of the downsides of having too many elements in a sandwich. The tots were perfectly fried, not too oily and had a serious crunch. The BEC had thick cuts of bacon and was tastier than the Hawaiian Morning even though that had arugula and grilled onions. I had to say excuse me for her to acknowledge me. And my food has been done the whole entire time. Everything is self serve. Even checking on when your food is ready. It's not a cheep spot too with sandwiches averaging $14. I'm fine with self serve locations, but if you are going to do this, have a system in place to inform guest their food is ready. My online order status showed "in progress" and never changed on my phone. The employees are clearly just focused on making the food. The quality of the food is there, you just need to work out a better system where guests can check on their order without having to rely on the employees (who again are only focused on making food and nothing else). A plus I think, is that they are in the Hub On network, a simple and effortless idea that increases foot traffic in this vibrant nook of Rivermark Plaza. I was really curious to see what would replace Bellyrub after they closed down unexpectedly a few months ago. When I found out Egghead Sando Cafe was taking over, I was very excited to give them a try. I stopped by to pick up a quick lunch on a weekday. They were fairly busy with a couple tables occupied inside and about 4 people ahead of me in line. I ordered their Ultimate Sando and a side of tater tots to go. I was a little taken aback by the price because it came out to be $17.75 for a breakfast sandwich and some tater tots, which seems outrageously expensive. Portion wise, it felt pretty standard for a more gourmet version of a breakfast sandwich. The brioche bun was soft and the sausage patty was juicy. I think the they could've added more chives to really bring out the flavor, but the grilled onions was a nice touch. I did find two pieces of egg shells in the sandwich (at least I hope it was eggshells). They also gave a good amount of tater tots in a separate box that was fried perfectly, giving it a good crunch. Overall, I think the quality and food was solid and is a unique business that can bring some more variety to the Rivermark Plaza. But they are overpriced for the type of food they offer and I think even if it was even $2-3 dollars less, it would make more sense. read more

2 things. The sandwiches are really flavorful and decently portioned HOWEVER, they are severely understaffed. My group ordered 3 sandos for dine in but the staff were only calling out TOGO orders. We waited 15 minutes before going up to the counter and they had packaged our order as a TOGO order but didn't even bother to call our number even though they had called EVERY number that ordered before and after us. This spot in Rivermark Plaza was previously occupied by Belly Rub and before that, the breakfast fixture Posh Bagel for many years. As fate would have it, I saw the "Open" sign and walked in - and it was their first day (sort of a soft opening)! The menu right now is a refreshingly simple one-pager, yet still has enough variety to pique your interest for multiple visits. Per usual, my eyes ordered more than my stomach could handle... The Chic Chicken has Taiwanese breading and is served very hot and fresh, tender and juicy. The bun is made on the premises - confirmed with its soft and puffy texture but still holds everything together nicely. There's also arugula and the medium fried egg (which I feel they should give the option of how to prepare) but the kicker here is the spicy kicker, or spicy mayo. It's not in-your-face, but you can definitely feel the burn. Egghead Salad Fresh, juicy tomatoes lead the charge on a well composed salad mix lying on a bed of arugula. There's the arugula leaves, tangy vinaigrette, zesty bacon and Parmesan flakes. But in one corner, there lies the differentiating factor: an ice cream scoop of warm scrambled eggs hidden underneath a slice of melted cheddar, and a bit of grilled onions and sprinkled chives. At first, it doesn't look right, but of course they love eggs here and I love the creativity in dishes like this. I mean, who says you can't have salad for breakfast? Pineapple Cucumber Green Tea Unique blend of two distinct flavors. Really refreshing, even on a cold day. Very low in sugar. Overall, quite impressive for day #1. The value here starts with food - and the potential is high, particularly since Rivermark Plaza is in dire need of more breakfast options. Happy I finally got to try Egghead at their new location! It was fairly quiet when we stopped in for lunch on a weekday, but food came out fairly fast. I also like that they have outdoor seating. I got the chic sando. The chicken was cooked perfectly- juicy and crispy all around. My egg was overdone a bit which was disappointing because I wanted the yolk to on the runnier side. The portion was pretty big though so it was nice and filling for lunch. My only wish is that they seasoned it a bit more and added more sauce to the sandwich, it started tasting dry after the first few bites. I'd order it with extra sauce next time. read more
