We tried to eat at Eggs 'n Things' Waikiki location years ago but didn't feel like waiting over an hour for breakfast. This time I called around. Waikiki had a 45 minute wait, Piikoi 15 minutes. Sold! According to the menu, this Piikoi Street location has a larger menu that includes apps and alcohol. ATMOSPHERE: They're located in the Ala Moana Shopping Plaza, a small separate strip mall that's part of Ala Moana Center. Parking was easy regardless of the small lot. The restaurant was clean and bright with a mix of a small counter and table seats. MENU: It's huge and intimidating! Breakfast selections, tea service, local plate lunches, bar-style apps, Korean cuisine, burgers, sandwiches, desserts, beer, mixed drinks, wine, sparkling wine. BEVERAGE: Guava Juice - $5.00 Wow, this juice was thick and gritty, exactly how fresh guava juice should be. Kind of pricey though. FOOD: Spinach Bacon & Cheese Omelette - $12.00 Their omelettes are made with three eggs so they're very hearty, even more so with the ingredient stuffing. Honestly, there was too much bacon inside for me as I finished the omelette and removed some. You get a choice of steamed rice, roasted potatoes or three pancakes. I chose the potatoes which were good - roasted crunchy on the outside, soft inside and plentiful. SERVICE: We were greeted immediately. We had a short 20-minute wait on a Monday morning around 9am for the three of us. Our server was friendly, attentive and professional. Just went for a breakfast/brunch as my normal breakfast place closed and relocated. Since I was already in the area, I decided to try this place out. The waitlist sat at a 20-40 minutes, which is fairly reasonable. By the time I got a seat, I was starving. I ordered a Portuguese Sausage Eggs Benedict with Potatoes. The food was super delicious, and I have no complaints whatsoever. There was a hair on the edge of the plate, but it was a fairly minor issue, nothing to get worked up over. Service was definitely a bit slow, with coffee and water refills scarce. I assumed it was busy today, since it was the weekend, and left it at that. Scenery was nice, placed right in the middle of downtown with Ala Moana nearby and the view of high rises. There were very small bugs that appeared every once in a while (I sat at a booth next to the wall) but it wasn't too bothersome. Overall, great food, decent service and ambiance. Mind boggling experience - we got there at 1:35pm and the store sign says open and when we went inside the store, there were people eating. However we got turned away by the lady in the front saying that the store is closed when we tried to check in with the yelp app on their iPad. A couple minutes later, 2 people went in and somehow they didn't get turned away, so it left us curious what the store policy is and who gets seated and who don't. The check in is located on the street entrance, once the table is ready you walk up the stairs to the second floor. Waitress checked COVID vax card & ID once we were at our table. Checked in using their required check-in kiosk. My party of four was given a wait time of 10-15 minutes. I decided to check what was going on as I was already going on 25 minutes of waiting to be seated. When I went in and asked about my party and how much longer, I wad told their system sometimes kicked people's seating request. I was then told they can put me back in but I would have to wait another 20 minutes. This is truly ridiculous, If you know your system has problems then you need to either fix it or nix it. Two girls who greeted us (did just that), stood around the entire time and the only other guy who was not taking orders was delivering the food. Potatoes felt like leftover potatoes and so greasy could not eat them. Never got a refill of coffee (coffee $4,00), and cup very small. I somehow got lucky and was given both potatoes and pancakes, so that was a plus to my morning! The pancakes were light, fluffy and warm! The side butter had a rich flavor and the syrup was great! Put it all together and you have one fantastic pancake. The potatoes were crisp with good season. The flavor was impeccable with a little bit of ketchup on the side. As for the eggs Benedict, I found it to be just as amazing as the rest of the mean. The eggs were cooked eggxactly (get it?) as requested. The ham was flavorful and the bread wasn't dry. Wish I could give more stars because the women in here were very nice including manager. It took one man -Randy- to bring this rating down to 2 stars for me. As we're about start to eating more patrons enter, Randy now has 4 tables us, a hawiian family behind us, 2 tables both white families in front of us. We see and hear him greet all those tables with a smile, actually stood at every one having conversations and laughs. Randy has checked on the 3 tables multiple times, NEVER came back to us even tho we were there first. Just imagine your waiter passing you by going to table behind and in front of you. We flagged down a waitress and inform her of what's going on with randy & ask for someone else she apologized and helps us with more coffee, we then ask her about ketchup packets she says they have them and brings us a bunch from a basket at the front desk where they all stand!! Geesh were not even worth ketchup packets? Anyway the whole experience was such a turn off we all ate due to hunger but definitely lost our appetite. Big City was closed, Zippys doesnt serve veggie omelette so we decided to try Eggs 'n Things. The portions are small. Ordered the mushroom, spinach omelette with paniolo potatoes. The omelette was thin and flat sprinkled with about a small handful of potatoes. Nothing special. Daughter ordered turkey bacon, white rice and easy over eggs. ....again nothing special.
