We were looking for an Asian restaurant near LAX airport to sit down for nice meal after long day at the DMV. Checking on Yelp, we got to different places but didn't like that. So this time, I suggested to have Mexican food since big Mexican population in the area. I found this location. After checking the pictures to see it's a real restaurant & wanted to give it a trial. Surprise to see it's a very nice Mexican restaurant with parkings on the side. Inside is a traditional Mexican style. I ordered Cocido de res Thats Beef soup and it was so good that my friend also wanted one. The flour tortillas is thin and not huge big. It was real good. Many customers ordered to go as well. Pretty solid bean and cheese burrito, definitely would recommend if you want a more bean forward burrito. I wish I had a photo of their menudo but that was a go to for a while, I think their menudo is one of the better ones on the westside! Service is very friendly, ambiance is a typical mexican restaurant. I like the way the menu was designed, very fun - reminds me of a Californian mexican restaurant (the type of places that sell a wet burrito). Been coming here for years, everything is so good! Today I ordered pozole and although it was tasty and came with generous amounts of condiments ( cabbage, onions, lemon and chili) they did change the original recipe from the last time I ordered it, it was a much thicker dark broth than before. It tasted really good, but I like the original one from before better . The meat was so tender and delicious though My husband got the chorizo plate and finished every bit of it The rice and beans are usually so good but every once in a while, the rice is a miss, like today it wasn't warm and it was not fluffy and soft, almost seems like it was the bottom of the pan or yesterday's rice , I exchanged it for beans instead, and they gave me no problems on doing so. The original employees I believe they're probably the owners are always so nice and accommodating . I highly recommend the Carnitas taquitos, which are corn tortillas stuffed with their delicious Carnitas, avocado and cheese! Also, this place might go to when I'm craving a good bean and cheese burrito I have not tried half the things on the menu but everything I've tried so far over the years I have really enjoyed . The restaurant itself is cute, very Mexican feel for sure. This is the type of restaurant where you order in line where you pay and sit until they call your name , there is no wait service but they do have workers coming out constantly and cleaning the tables for the next guests. El Abajeno is the best Mexican food on the west side. It's the real deal: you walk in and there's Mexican people at the tables, the register, and in the kitchen. The walls are covered in Mexican art, painted beautiful on tile. Everyone is speaking Spanish, there's Mexican music playing over the speakers. You can't get any more authentic than this spot. On top of the mellow ambiance, the food tastes great and is reasonably priced. I got the Chile Colorado dinner plate (pictured) and it was some of the best meat I've ever had in a Mexican dish. My Mexican girlfriend even ate my leftover beans because, in her words, they're "just like abuelita used to make them". If you're into Mexican food, don't sleep on this place. read more

We grade them B-. Or maybe C. The flavors and textures just weren't that good. I mean, I've had worse but these weren't particularly tasty. I'm lookin' for tasty, lip-smackin' good. Not here. The rice in the cr burrito was dry and tasteless. The chile tasted like it wasn't ripe, it was hard to chew through. The beans werent smooth and creamy, they were tasteless and a little dry. Amazing burritos, cute homey vibes inside, and I pretty much only heard people speaking in Spanish inside the restaurant which suggests to me good is authentic and excellent. Huge menu with quite a few vegetarian options, the vegetarian burrito is excellent, will try the veggie super tostada next time.
