Stopped by while out running errands. I ordered the cheese enchilada plate, and boyfriend ordered 3 tacos. The enchiladas were topped and filled with cotija cheese, which is not what I was looking for. I wanted the typical cheddar and Jack cheese melty mix, and the cotija was the consistency of ricotta cheese. Very bland. The red enchilada sauce was spicy, but good. Scant sauce on the enchiladas, though; in fact there was hardly any sauce at all. Beans and rice were just okay. Enchilada plate was almost $15; not worth even half of that. Boyfriend's tacos (carnitas, Al pastor and chicken) were just okay. In the dining area, there was a pre-school children's video running on a large TV mounted to the wall, despite no children being present. The scant decor was a series of terrible paintings with faces of masked wrestlers. We won't go back. read more

I was biking to El Segundo and this place looked nice and hole in the Wallis but the interior is nicer, more modern than I expected. It was clean and the service fast. This used to be my go to but sadly it has gone downhill rapidly. Rude service, and wildly inconsistent and unpredictable hours. Several weeks ago I came on at 4:00 and was told they are closed. Today I walked in at 3:30 to get lunch; the sign on the door says closing time is 5:00 and the app says closing time is 4:30. I figured this was a sufficient buffer of time. Instead, I was rudely told in Spanish by a woman sweeping the floor that they are closed. I pointed to the sign on the door and was answered with an indifferent shrug. Taqueria Sanchez WAS a quaint Mexican cuisine weekend spot for me growing up. This was always my to go spot with my parents as a kid and even later in my 20s. I always ordered the same thing... the torta combinada, tacos, or sopes. The staff were always friendly and efficient, the food was more than affordable, and they even had a cart in the center for DIY toppings (like radishes, salsa, guacamole, jalapeños, etc.). After 3 recent visits during different dates/times from each visit, it hurts me to say that all of this gone. I believe the business was sold. The inside now has a more modern feel to it, the cart is no longer there, the woman (was the same lady every visit) cashier has RBF, the food is no where close to what it used to be, and the prices have sky rocketed. The food is mid at best (they put diced white onions in the torta combinada instead of sliced red onion and barely put any guacamole). On one occasion the new manager or owner was there serving and that is the ONLY reason I gave 2 stars because I saw he was doing his best to provide good customer service. This place feels (and even tastes) like it was hit by the gentrified movement. I will not be going back and I will check out the Sanchez on Inglewood and Braddock to hopefully get a taste of the good old days. read more

I came across this little restaurant when my hubby and I were looking for a mexican restaurant to check out. We originally were going to a different restaurant but were pressed for time and decided to check this place out. The place is small and there are two parts to it. One side of the restaurant is where you order and the other side is the dining area. Food- 2.5 out of 5 Hubby ordered nachos and I ordered the tostada de ceviche and the enchilada plate. I wish I had known about the serving size before I ordered so I wouldnt have ordered so much food. The nachos were enough to feed 3 people. The cashier let us know that they dont add cheese to the nachos they add queso fresco. The nachos were good. The tostada de ceviche was really good as well. The only comment I will say about the ceviche was that it was one tostada on top of a bed of chips. The meal looked bigger than it actually was. The reason why my food rating is so low is because of the enchilada plate. The plate came with 4 enchiladas with chicken and rice and beans. The rice was hard and tasteless. The beans were really salty and had a weird taste to it. I ended up not eating the beans or rice. The enchilada sauce was good but the chicken that was used had peppers and onions. Ive never had enchiladas like that, it didnt taste bad but it was different. Hubby and I got Jamaica which was really good just a bit sweet. Service- 3.5 out of 5 When ordering, it was a bit confusing. There isnt a clear line where you should be lining up to order. When we were speaking to the cashier, she seemed annoyed and the busser would come by and talk over her to us. We werent sure who we should be talking to. She let us know that she would call out for us when our food was ready. We walked to the other side of the restaurant and sat down. A waitress came and gave us our food. The waitress was attentive and helpful if we needed anything. I was a bit disappointed by the food but Id be willing to check this place out again. This spot it SOOOO DELICIOUS! I'm pregnant and I was driving home, decided I needed a delicious Mexican lunch. I drove past, flipped a u turn and parked. I have eaten at Casa Sanchez, a beautiful upscale Mexican restaurant across the street a few times. For lunch I wanted something quick and simple. Oh wow am I sooo grateful I came to the Taqueria!!! I ordered a camarones burrito and it was absolutely delicious!!! In fact, the best burrito hands down I've had in Los Angeles! I'm from the Bay Area, lived here for 10 years now and am so happy to have experienced a delicious simple burrito!!! The shrimp was cooked to perfection and the Mexican rice had little bits of carrots and peas like I grew up with. It was HELLA GOOD!! And $10!!! Solid and so affordable. I've driven by here about 200 times and always have wanted to go. Today was that day and I'm glad I did. Very local and authentic Mexican food. A great cross section of trade people and other folks that are looking for good food at a fair price. I spent about 15 minutes staring at the menu, it's as big as the burritos. Some hand written and some not. But so many choices. Tongue? Ok, maybe not the first visit. I went carnitas and wrapped in a burrito that was as big as my head. The pork was so tender and moist. Filled with rice and beans and way more than I could ever eat. Chips were good, seemed homemade which is a pet peeve of mine when they are not. Salsa bar was really good. The avo sauce was the best for me. Some great hot choices. The soups looked great and again, good value. Once again huge good portions. I'll be back. Parking is a challenge, but worth it in the end. The food is okay, except for the birria. Ughh the birria was awful. They should be embarrassed to serve it. It was dry and chewy. Possibly the worst I've ever had. The chilaquiles were spicy and tasty, but I'm not going to pay $12 for chilaquiles con huevo. The shrimp cocktail was fine too. The shrimp was fresh and deveined perfectly. It disappoints me knowing I grew up on this restaurant and recently coming back I gave it a chance and it's better off to experience another taqueria. The meat was dry, they barely gave chips the first time and there was no love in the food. And no real greeting. These tacos were always my favorite to get and now I know I don't need to be coming back and be given little effort in service. Sad to mention these employees don't know have much of diversity experience either. Little do they know I'm Latina as well and I see how others inside are greeted incredibly different. Torta #12 Dear Torta Gods, thank yous for giving the earth the great mexican sandwich we call torta. but please can you deliver some that stand above the rest? not today? okay fine, i'll settle for just a good torta. yours always -eli- ps - i came here on one of my many random drives to find food. i've stood out front of it a million times when going to sakura sushi but never thought that a torta may be lurking inside. truth be told, i didn't like this place. no idea why. but i would drive by and make faces at it, just blind disdain. but lucky for me and them, they served up a fine torta. they had a nice list of meats to choose from and at the bottom was combination torta. i didn't know if it was a standard item or i could pick some of the meats. so i ask the food drone what's on a combination torta. he replies, "one combination torta, anything to drink?" stunned i default to say, "large horchata, no ice." great, now i have no idea what i'm getting. i don't really care though. few minutes later i get my grub. looks like thin carne asada, ham, cheese, guacamole, jalapenos, lettuce and tomatoes. mmm it was good! the bread was nice, would have been nicer if it was a little more toasted. the ham, cheese, and beef were all great, full of flavor, salty, and nicely offset by the veggies. the chips were good too and there were a nice selection of salsas. good lunch but i think i'm going to have to go back just to try some of there other meats. oh and it was cheap too! under $5 for my big as torta! read more

This is my new taco Tuesday spot. No they don't have taco Tuesday specials, but who needs a special when the tacos are only $1.60? A co-worker (who is from Mexico City) told me that these were the best tacos he's had in the area. Being the taco lover that I am I had to go check them out. Sanchez is wonderfully decorated with windows painted as brick portales', silk flowers and artwork depicting Mexican landscapes hang from the walls inside. The taqueria serves tacos, tortas, burritos, sopes and other traditional Mexican dishes like chilaquiles, enchiladas, tamalas, and mariscos. I ordered a lomo taco, which is basically the back or the loin of the cow. The meat is simmered with onions and tomatoes and was full of rich beef flavor. I also tried the carnitas taco, which was a bit on the dry side, but adding some of their tangy green sauce fixed that. I also got a pastor sopes. The specially seasoned BBQ pork was very good, not overly spicy, perfectly cooked, spread over beans on a corn sopes, covered with lettuce and Mexican cheese, a true work of art. They have an impressive salsa bar with two kinds of red, green, avocado and pico de gallo salsas. Service is fast, perfect for a quick lunch. read more

Yep, it's official. Excellent taco shop, walking distance from my home! Came here with the wifey for some brunch, but this was not your traditional brunch. We ordered a pollo asado quesailla plate ($7ish), and four tacos, fish and shrimp ($1.75 each), adobado, and buche ($1.35 each) (see pics http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/xH1oC2cKbv8JId7gRE_XUQ?select=tofzbl_AI-pKTlVnShpLZA). The prices were extremely reasonable considering and these were not mini tacos either. They were actually pretty decent sized. The orders were up in no time and it was time to feast. I started with the fish taco. First of all, I will go ahead and say that I am really into baja fish tacos (i.e., the style that they serve in Baja California Norte and Sur). These were not those, thus, I will not judge them by standards that do not apply to them. What we got was some grilled fish in a taco, with nothing else. No white sauce, salsa fresca, tomatoes, nothing. The fish was not very well seasoned and was completely over-powered when we added some guac to it. Pretty disappointing even if its not supposed to be Baja style. Next, I tried the shrimp taco. Also not baja style, which I prefer, this one was actually pretty good. I was, again, not judging it by the usual standards, but just as a taco with shrimp in it. The shrimp were extremely fresh, flavorful and not rubbery. It did not come with anything, but was complimented well by some guac and salsa. Success! The adobado, which I often comment is damn hard to screw up, was also pretty good. I should say that it did have a different flavor than most of the adobado that I usually get. It was almost a little sweet. But it was really good. My only real complaint with this one was that the pieces were cut way too big, which made it really difficult to eat. Otherwise, this was an excellent taco. The flavors were just right, the pieces were nice and tender, there was plenty of meat in it. Excellent job. Finally, the star of the show was the buche! OMG!!! this was so flavorful, smokey, and tender. I love buche and if you don't, there's something wrong with you. But there is also good news for you. You see, I believe that there is a strong correlation between a taco shop's buche and their carnitas, so based on the buche, the carnitas are probably also the bomb. The flavor was just so amazing on this stuff, I will have to come back and get the burrito next time. Perfect with some salsa roja, cilatro, onions, and guac. They pack you with chips with every item you order, so that is a nice touch too. They do have mariscos, which I was initially skeptical about, but after having that shrimp taco, I would definitely order the shrimp coctel for $7. I think I might've gotten a biased view of this place because I went right before they closed. Overall the food is not good in any way, the salsa bar seems to have a lot of potential that it is not living up to, and the ambiance is nice enough. I got the soft shell Tacos de Camaron and my Tia got the same but with hard shell. The first thing I found off is my tacos came with zero toppings, they just had shrimp and some grilled onions! My Tia's tacos came out with the usual expected cabbage, white sauce and salsa fresca. The next problem is the shrimp was a little mushy. Next the tortillas were falling apart. Once I got my tacos down I thought ok maybe the chips will save this meal (really awesome they give you free chips with your tacos by the way). Nope. The chips were definitely store bought and not in a good way. The salsa bar looked as though at one point a lot of time went into it. The presentation was great! The salsas were not. Mexican Street Food Review #1 Taqueria Sanchez #2 is a great find. This is an expansion unit of the original Sanchez on Slauson, about a minute's drive away. The original has a small market attached which includes a carneceria which we go to sometimes when we barbeque at work. This #2 installment is just the restaurant but has inside seating and a salsa bar unlike the original which is just an outdoor counter and window (true street style). The inside seating is great on rainy days (few and far between in SoCal) but just convinient altogether to sit and enjoy certain menu items that would be difficult to eat standing up. The salsa bar includes a few red sauces, a green sauce, and a avocado sauce. Nothing extremely spicy but all the sauces are pretty tasty, which is important to me at least. I like spicy but if it tastes like oil or just ground chili powder (bitter), then it's not worth the heat. Peppers have great flavor if you prepare them correctly and I hate to see mexican joints waste all their time on sauces that don't taste good. This is not the case here. Great taste all around. The bar also includes the standard radishes and carrot/onion sides. Now to the important part, the main dishes. This place, even though it's an inside sit down type place physically now is actually still very much a street stand type cuisine. Their main menu consists of the standard tacos, burritos, tortas, and cocteles, but due to the plentiful seating, they are also able to serve other things such as quesadillas, nachos, gorditas, tamales, and mojarra. The tacos, served soft and hard, are decent size. I'm not into huge soft corn tortilla tacos because it's just not quite the same as a small 2-3 bite street taco. These tacos are in between the 2 extremes so it's a good size and not too expensive. Standard onions and cilantro are all that they put on there. The hard tacos, taco dorados, are house made hard tacos made to order. They include the standard lettuce, tomatoes, onions, cilantro, and crema. Very good texture on the shell and very messy, but good for the texture freaks. (partially guilty) Burritos are good sized but not too large to require a fork lift to carry around. I'm all into good deals but do not need a 2 lb burrito to deem it a good value. Definitely quality trumps quantity. They also offer your burrito to be doused in red or green sauce and cheese, an advantage of the sit down dining experience. Tortas are pretty good. They use standard torta pan which is not always the case in a lot of joints around SoCal. The bread is what makes the torta in my opinion. It has to be soft and slightly toasty on the outside. They put crema, lettuce, tomatoes, beans, and your choice of meat. Lengua torta is one of my norms. Cocteles are good. I have tried their mixta and camarones cocteles as well as their tostadas. Served with standard tapatio, avocado slices, lime, and chips. Their seafood is fresh and perfectly made. Special mention goes to my other staple here, the Gordita Rajas. A gordita, unlike it's faux Taco Bell cousin, is basically masa that's deep fried as a flat disk and then cut horizontally so that it makes a pocket. pita-esque. Rajas is chile peppers (sweet hot peppers I believe) that are sliced and slow cooked until they are all soft and translucent, texture similar to caramalized onions. They add their mexican hard cheese and grilled onions and what you have is a meatless cheesy spicy gordita. Very good. Meats: Due to the popularity, they offer a wide variety of meats to choose from for all their standard serving forms. Carne asada, Pollo, Al pastor, Carnitas, Lengua, Cabeza, Chile Verde, Lomo, Camarones, Pescado, Buche, Chicharrones. I usually judge a place on their lengua and cabeza since these take a lot of prep work beforehand in order to make it well. The lengua is pretty good but the cabeza is a bit too sloppy for my tastes. It's tasty but way too much juice which makes it very messy. The lengua is well made, cooked long enough to be soft but not too long so that the structure is still there. Basically, I want to recognize what I'm eating in this case. The lomo is not a regular item in most taquerias so I like to get this sometimes. It's the loin of the cow and is very tasty. It's like the taste of carne asada but softer and a lot tastier. They offer a lot of different drinks to quench the heat. They have the standard street stand staples such as Jarritos soda and Agua Frescas (Jamaica, Melon, Horchata). All in all, I would deem this place a sit down street stand restaurant. It has the taste of a lot of good street style mexican food but has the advantage to serve family style food as well. This place is packed most of the time and the line winds it's way throughout the seating area. Great place for lunch. read more

Don't even bother, it seems as if they could care less about serving food! They are incredibly rude and close before they say they do. They stop serving 30 minutes before they close?!?! "When your pants is full of foam, as your running into home...." I thought the food was good, but man its really heavy & greasy. They give huge portions though and its fairly cheap. I ordered the carne asada burrito and it was good, the carne asada was nice and tender. We also ordered the nachos, which was also good. Con: Its really heavy, like other reviews said. And as my friend said "be prepared for a diarrhea day the next day from all the grease. Parking is horrible, the front street fits like 4 cars, and the Japanese place next door is busy so most of their customers take those spots. The side streets is limited to parking on 1 side of the street only so those are taken up by the residence on those streets, theres an itty bitty parking lot in the back, it you drive thru an alley and theres a back entrance there.
