Delicious!! Classic mid south Mexican with queso. We really enjoyed it and do not understand the low rating

Typical Mexican overall. It wasn't terrible but it was very forgettable to me. Last time I went. I went inside at the bar and it took a minute to get some service but at least the server and the bartender who served me was nice. This spot is on Roswell road and hash Street parking so just keep that in mind. It's in a shopping plaza so there's plenty of parking everywhere for the most part. So the thing that is the allure about this spot is probably the setup. It's huge and spacious and has a lot of outside seating so if you want to do something on a nice day this is a good spot to go to. They actually have a main patio and a smaller patio so you really can't go wrong if you want to go outdoors. Fajita style nachos - The nachos are okay. Definitely not something that I would look to keep coming back for. The cheese was so soaked that the bottom of it that had the chips on there. That layer was pretty soggy. But the chicken was good. So that's something. Fries - The fries were great and had a perfect crisp to them. No complaints. Chips and salsa - nothing to write home about. Salsa was okay overall. Chips seemed decently fresh. Poblano pepper - The pepper was very forgettable. It was overly soggy and I almost can tell what it was when it was dropped off in front of me. Under all that there was a layer of cheese and pepper but I would definitely not get it again. Overall, this was an okay experience, but there's so many other places that are much better and have better presentation. If you want a quick fix with a nice view, this will be your spot to consider checking out, but just know that you can probably find other places that would hit in a couple more different apartments than this one. read more

A friend and I visited a Mexican Resturant back in the day, and thought this was it! It wasn't.. The food was mid at best. I ordered the chicken loco. There was barely any rice in the dish..We ordered queso with jalapeño. Get this is they were cut up into little pieces that you could barely see or taste. Service was iffy.. When we finished eating, we sat there for 10 to 15 minutes waiting for her to come check on us.. The Resturant wasn't busy. We came here on a Thursday night and were seated pretty quickly even thought they closed in less than an hour. Our waiter was great and arrived at the table when she was needed as well. I ordered the ground beef chimichanga with rice. The queso that was poured over the chimichanga and onto a bit of the rice was so good together! I mean my goodness. And the chimichanga was stuffed with ground beef so I was not left wanting at all. El Azteca, is NOT four-star worthy across the board. Their salsa is soupy and overly hot. Requesting salsa a bit milder, we were given warm liquid that I'm guessing beans were cooked in. Feh! T's frozen margarita was fine. Mine -- strawberry -- had little flavor. Our server brought a jigger of strawberry syrup, warning me that it's very sweet. I added a judicious amount, making the drink better, but still not the best margarita I've ever had. So where do the four stars come in? My lunch -- Texas fajita quesadillas -- was great! And big. Too much for one meal. The quesadillas were filled with beef, chicken, shrimp, peppers and onions, served alongside a guacamole salad. My idea of a perfect lunch. T's carnitas didn't look as good as what he gets in our usual restaurant. He said they were delicious, adding the caveat that I wouldn't like them because they're fatty. So there you have it. If you like quesadillas, try what I got. And if the weather is conducive, it's really nice to sit outside on the patio. read more

My old go to Mexican spot back in 04 hasn't changed much since then. On a food scale, I'd give it a 3/5. Service and ambiance is a 4/5. What I really like is you can get in and out of here quick if you want. Taco Tuesday they serve up $2 tacos that are packed with protein. Well worth that trip. read more

I placed an order from the yelp menu for the Texas fajita for$12.45. When I got there to pick it up, the receipt, was for $27. I asked why because I've only placed an order for one Texas fajita. The hostess said that the cost of the Texas fajita was not $12.45. I asked to speak to the manager, Mr. J. Torres. who showed me the menu and said what I ordered was $21.99. He would not honor the Internet/Yelp price so I left the order there. He said what appeared on yelp was not their concern. I felt they should've honored the price that I saw when I place the order from yelp. He confirmed the phone number that was on the yelp menu was the same as the actual restaurant menu. I thought it was very poor customer service not to honor the price that was indicated when I placed the order online. read more

I haven't been here in years and came for lunch. It was empty surprisingly when we got there around 11:30 but filled in a little more after noon. The lunch specials came out quick, the chips were fresh and hot and we got some good refills too. For a quick and cheaper lunch with table service I'd recommend. The parking lot is not my favorite though, always full and with very few spots right in front of the restaurant. read more

We have seen this location driving on the main road a dozen times and figured we'd try it out. I'd read more good reviews in the recent months compared to the not so good that kept its rating so low. Here's what I got on my visit. The outside's vibrant colors draws you in, but once you actually enter the atmosphere is a bit more drab and glum. Faded paint, scratched up old menus, and just no vibrancy Mexico is known for. The hostess and server were both very kind, but table service was very inattentive. We waited a good 5 minutes before being greeted at the table. Doesn't seem that long but it is when you're thirsty or hungry . The cheese dip was great and salsa on point. Period. The salsa had incredible flavors; fresh tomatoes and the kick of pepper to spice it up. I ordered the Chicken taco salad just to keep it simple and it was very disappointing. The chicken had no flavor and just seemed it had been sitting for hours. We also order the chicken fajita quesadilla, and it was decent. A bit more flavor on the fajita chicken but still pretty bland. With having over 100+ Authentic Mexican restaurants operating in the Metro Atlanta Area, I don't recommend choosing this one--despite the temptation from the beautiful exterior. We ended up at El Azteca after a movie. It was around 9:45 and many of the other restaurants in the area were about to close. My friends and I understand how annoying it can be to dine in near closing time but with a little over a full hour we thought we could be in and out without overstaying our welcome. When we walked in the hostess rolled her eyes at us. Our group offered to leave if it was too close to their 11 PM closing time. She insisted it was fine even though her body language said otherwise and we got a table in the bar area. I ordered a Mango Chili margarita, 3 tacos with a side of rice and beans. Everything was okay. I paid for it so I was going to eat it but everything was bland. Severely lacking flavor. I didn't finish any of my tacos and there wasn't any salt or pepper on the table to help me save the beans. The chips and salsa were also lacking any discernible flavor. The Mango Chili margarita was the best thing I ordered. There wasn't anything else that would make me stop in to try this place again. read more

I dropped in while in the area to get a good drink & some good food... BIG mistake. The Piña colada was basic & not strong & the chicken tacos were not very good or flavorful. I ordered a fried chicken taco & a regular chicken taco and there didn't taste authentic or hearty. The waitress was a bit impatient with me although told her it was my 1st time there. That was disappointing because I has questions. It was loud and the stale drink made my experience so WACK! Such a perfect afternoon so much fun, just came up there for a casual lunch and cocktail and had the best experience ever. really well crafted cocktails and the food is delicious and authentic... not to mention the great atmosphere and super friendly staff. This place is GOOD! I drive past it all the time and see the huge patio and think that it would be cool to try. My boyfriends parents are in town and wanted to meet for lunch and they wanted Mexican food so I immediately thought of this place since I have been wanting to check it out. I checked the reviews on Yelp and was very hesitant. I would check it out myself regardless, but didn't want to bring them somewhere not good. The ratings are so low and say the food is bland but that is all far from the truth! I think those reviews are extremely old but the recent ones look much better. So I decided to give it a try and I don't regret it! ***LOCATION*** Right off the main Roswell rd area in Sandy Springs. Right across from Whole Foods and plenty other businesses around. Plenty of parking since it is right on the street but it connects to the parking lot with all of the surrounding businesses and strip, so you'd never not find parking. We found a spot right up front. ***AMBIANCE*** The patio is huge and there are two sides. It is colorfully decorated and has plenty of covering so the sun wouldn't be in your eyes. The entire wall opens up into the inside making it a perfect spot even on hot days especially if you're sitting at the tables almost inside but still outside. There's so much covering and fans, it is much better than patios that only have umbrellas and when it's really hot you just sit there sweating with sun in your eyes. This one is perfect! The inside isn't sad looking at all. Some reviews said that but it looks nice as well with plenty of TVs to watch sports! ***STAFF*** They were nice, for me they were normal as with any restaurant. They took the order quickly and got it out asap. Came to check on us and made sure we had what we needed. ***FOOD*** They all got fajitas which all looked very good and had hefty serving sizes. I just got a basic veggie plate and it was good. It tasted like a classic plate from any Mexican restaurant in the US. Not to say it wasn't good, it definitely was but it didn't taste different than any other place, which for me is perfect. If I'm going to a Mexican restaurant, i generally want my cheese enchilada or bean burrito to taste pretty much the same everywhere. It definitely wasn't bland! The salsa is good here too and the chips were good, not stale and not too thin. We also got a Marg pitcher and it wasn't expensive at all. We split it between 4 of us and each got 2 glasses from it and it was 27$ total! ***PRICE*** Under 100$ for four people to each get a meal and 2 drinks is not bad at all! ***CONCLUSION*** Will definitely be back here for the good food, drinks and perfect patio for large groups this summer! read more

I will never respect an establishment that thinks stealing an extra $4 from a customer is acceptable. The nachos wasn't even all that great to begin with, the mojito was watered down, and the waitress Isabela, the one who stole an extra $4 out my bank account, was unknowledgeable about the prices and portion sizes of the entrees. I love this place!! As many times as I've been here, I've never posted a review! I need to do better. This is the beau's spot, it's right up the street from his job so he frequents very often. Walks in and knows most of the waiters kind of frequents. Lol The staff is always super friendly! They have outside seating if interested and the tables are spaced out enough inside if you want to dine in. It's always clean and the food is amazing! Of course they give you fresh chips and salsa. I can get enough of them! We also always add the cheese dip with chorizo. So so good!! We also always order a pitcher of the house margarita. Pretty strong and great flavor! Depends on the visit if we make it pass the above. I've ordered all of the tacos and they are all really good. Chimichanga is very good! I get the veggie quesadilla most often and it's really good. I came here for lunch a few times now with work crowd. The restaurant is spacious, allowing for social distancing. Not sure what it looks like at night, but it's never been busy during lunch. The service is great and the waiters are very attentive. For food I've tried veggie quesadilla with added shrimp and lunch fajitas with beef and shrimp. Both were decent although the quesadilla came out a bit greasy for my taste. Overall: not bad. Great service, TV's if you are into sports, patio, varied menu. Give it a try if in the area. read more
