We stopped by here after dropping my sister off at LAX and omgggg it was great. Not going to lie, we had quite a few drinks the night before so the hangover was real but these cleared it all up. I would have to say the best way to go is getting the 3 amigos combo. The consume was super flavorful but not greasy. Their hot sauce is awesome too, my only complaint is that the bag of lime, onion and cilantro was pretty small especially for the 3 items. The service was quick and easy. After learning that there was a birria food truck close to our hotel, we had to try it. However, we were only semi-impressed with our experience here. Here's a quick rundown: Food: a mixed bag. The birria ramen sounded like a great combo, but it was extremely salty and "harsh" tasting, definitely not a great dish. The regular birria tacos were fairly good, but not he best we have ever had. The birria bone marrow, however, was amazing, and I would definitely recommend it. Service: could be better. Most of their menu options are "combos," and you can't get things a la carte. This means, for example, that if you want to try both the birria ramen and the birria bone marrow, you have to pay for the side tacos that come with them, which is a lot of food (and $$$). Also, we tried getting a regular cheese quesadilla for our toddler, and they charged us for a full sized meat one. Prices: Somewhat expensive for a food truck. We had tacos the night before at a different truck a block away, and the same amount of food was half the price. You are definitely paying extra for the novelty here. I am so happy I paused here on the way home. Easy to park, jump out and order. Placed a four taco suave order and the only drawback was I wanted more once I was done! They gave me sliced marinated red onions, a bag with cilantro and diced white onions with lime, red chili salsa and a great container of consume - so delicious. The tortillas were able to withstand extra long dunks in the delicious juice and by the end of my four tacos, I was drinking it. Every bite was delicious and so yummy. We were in the mood for tacos and we decided to get it from this taco truck. We went with two sample platters as well as two quasi tacos on the side - the sample platters came with consume as well as a quasi taco and another taco as well. I'm not sure if it was late or not but they also threw in another consume with our quasi tacos which was super nice of them. They put everything together after we ordered it and everything came out to be about $40 which was a good portion size and pricing for four people. They also put the lemon, onion pieces and scallions on the side for those of you that do not want it on their tacos. The quasi taco was absolutely delicious and it was definitely favorite taco. It also went so well with the consume - all the flavors were so good together. The meat went so well with the melted cheese and I absolutely inhaled by quasi taco. The other taco that came in the sample platter was taco dorado which was not bad but nothing too special (the quasi taco is where it was at). First off great customer service!!! This is a great location because there's plenty of parking in the lot and no lines! Plus this is a great spot to grab some good eats before or after a flight from LAX. Ok so birria has been marinating and cooking for hours so it's super flavorful. You also get to enjoy the broth that the birria meat and bones cooked in called consume, which is essential for dipping your tacos in or simply drinking it up. The queso tacos dorados (crunchy) I recommend so you can dip in the consume and not have your cheesy beefy taco fall apart in your hands. You must get any option they have that includes cheese. The cheese and birria belong together. Top your tacos with cilantro and onions. SqueeZe some lime and add your salsa- red or spicy ground chili oil- and enjoy! Depending on what you get, it can get messy and trying to eat standing up isn't a option. But with all that being said, I thought the tacos were just okay. Not bad by any means, but just not as good as everyone makes them seem. They just taste like regular tacos. The red truck was easy to find along Sepulveda, and since we were short on time, more favorable to access and order than the usual [famous] burger spot just down the street. Note: plane spotting is also possible from here. On a weekday afternoon, I encountered no line thus fast service after ordering the Sample Platter (Tacos Suaves/Taco Dorado/Quesi Taco/Consume). My boyfriend has been dying to try a birria taco with consume and luckily Pepe's was right here as we're staying near the SOFI stadium. We ordered the birria ramen, the dorado taco, and quesi taco. The Birria Ramen came with a quesi taco. The birria ramen was okay in my opinion. This meal itself was heavy and a bit salty. I added some onions and cilantro to enhance the flavors a bit and to add a little crunch, which helped, but overall this was just an okay dish. I personally would have a Japanese style ramen. The quesi taco was very delicious as was the dorado taco. The quesi was a little bit softer while the dorado had a nice little crunch. We added onions, cilantro and some of the rosado salsa and phew boy was that spicy. Overall, I give Pepe's a 4/5. 'Bone Marrow' tacos said the big sign on the back of the truck. It called me like a siren song since I love bone marrow and love tacos. I've never had a bone marrow taco before and I was excited. Unfortunately what I got was really soggy, greasy and just disappointing over all. I ordered the 'tres amigos platter' which has one huesi taco, one Mulita and one vampiro for $13.75. The way they packed it pretty much guarantees that everything would be soggy and when I opened it up (only two minutes after they gave it to me). It was pretty disappointing to be faced with a red oil slick covering everything, in part because they put so much cheese on everything. They did give me plenty of napkins which is good since I needed all of them and still I had red oil all over my hands when I was done. The good: the beef Birria itself was tasty and tender. The chili oil was delicious. The bad: everything was soggy. Too much cheese. Consommé wasn't very flavorful. There wasn't a ton of marrow on the taco but what was there tasted good. Once again the flavor of cheese drowned out everything else. The consommé for dipping was nice but could have been a little more flavorful. This is a food truck so they might change locations but I went when they were on sepulveda near the Ralph's. If you don't want to eat in your car you can use some nearby nicely shaded tables that Ralph's provides (and they even have wet wipes for you to wipe your seat and tables down with). In fact I recommend highly that you do not eat in your car since you will be guaranteed to have red oil all over your interior. read more

Food truck! We just flew in from ATL and needed something to eat before our 3h road trip. Stopped here because the birria taco pics looked really good on the website. We got the sample platter because just about all the tacos looked the same on the menu and we wanted to see what the difference was. Turns out there wasn't much of a difference. How am I just now finding out about this place?! Coincidentally, I stumbled across them bc my regular taco truck was MIA so I yelped another and found this gem! Took one look at the menu and ordered the birria ramen and quesi taco. Best decision ever. I was being a fat a$$ and wanted to eat in my car. I ate, well actually I inhaled the quesi taco. I'd asked for the hottest hot sauce and combined it with their standard hot sauce and my lips were in a fiery heaven. I legit got out of my car and ordered another one. I think they got a kick out of me bc this time they gave me a small consume for free. The consume is a dip for taco. I liken it to au jus along side a French Dip sandwich. The consume was extremely flavorful but the taco didn't exactly soak it up the way the a French Dip sandwich does the au jus so it was dripping everywhere and didn't really add to the experience so after two bites I stopped dipping, put it to the side and inhaled the rest of the 2nd taco. The two tacos held me over til I got home. That's where I had the pleasure of devouring the ramen. It had been sitting for about thirty minutes so the noodles had soaked up a good about of juice but it was still hot, juicy and full of birria. No lie, I plan to make a trip here weekly and I look forward to trying other items on the menu. The two guys and lady who helped me were sweet and funny. So great food and great customer service. My friends and I were visiting LA and I saw Pepe's Red Tacos all over social media before as they had birria tacos and bone marrow. We were extremely excited to try it as the hype seemed to be built up all over it. When we got there, there were a big line of people, which made us even more excited because it was a sign they were definitely a popular location. I initially wanted the huesi taco but upon ordering, they told me they had sold out. So that was a major bummer because that was what we really wanted to try. It would have been great to have been told that they didn't have any more left on the menu instead of having to wait for ~15 mins before ordering. Another thing is that.. they didn't have any prices on their menu... which made me a bit curious as to why..? Do they adjust the prices every season based on the availability of their items? Not sure. I resorted to the sample platter. Unfortunately, all 4 of them tasted the same to me.... with quesi taco being slightly better to make up for the dryness of the meat. I kept dipping it in the consume thinking that it's just because I haven't been dipping it, but it was still super dry. On the plus side, they do provide a lot of meat in the tacos. read more

A trip to the Forum to see the Foo Fighters brought me to Pepe's Red Tacos in Winchester, CA. Pepe's offers Birria De Res tacos. These are beef tacos instead of goat meat, which is more commonly used in birria. I ordered their sample platter that has 2 tacos suaves(soft birria tacos), 1 taco dorado(crunchy birria taco), and one quesi taco(cheesy soft taco). This is served with a bag of onion, cilantro, and radish. You also get an 8oz container of consume, the broth the meat is cooked in. The food was a little greasy, but it wasn't too bad when you were eating them, and I think it had a lot to do with they tortillas being absorbing the grease and the consume and it all adding to the flavor. The three different tacos that I had were all amazing. I'm not sure which style of taco I preferred, if I visit Pepe's Red Tacos again, I will probably go with the sample plater again to get a little bit of everything. My wife and friends that I was with ordered huesi tacos (bone marrow tacos) and mulitas. I did not try the bone marrow tacos, but they all enjoyed them. I did eat half of one of the mulitas and that was as delicious as the tacos. Tip: If you plan on ordering the bone marrow tacos, they do take a little longer to prepare, about 15 minutes. The owners are very friendly and their energy makes the food taste better for some reason, I don't know how they do it. They pick great places to park the truck, last time we got to enjoy our food near a gazebo and next to an ice cream place, so yea desserts. Usually some parking on the street by there but you can always pull in and park in the large lot there. We got a few of their soft tacos and crispy tacos. I prefer the crispy since birria is pretty wet and softens the tortilla. Tried the consume out as well. Everything was pretty good. The meat itself could be more flavorful but the hit sauce, cilantro and onions, and lime they give you helps add some flavor.
