After learning that there was a birria food truck close to our hotel, we had to try it. However, we were only semi-impressed with our experience here. Here's a quick rundown: Food: a mixed bag. The birria ramen sounded like a great combo, but it was extremely salty and "harsh" tasting, definitely not a great dish. The regular birria tacos were fairly good, but not he best we have ever had. The birria bone marrow, however, was amazing, and I would definitely recommend it. Service: could be better. Most of their menu options are "combos," and you can't get things a la carte. This means, for example, that if you want to try both the birria ramen and the birria bone marrow, you have to pay for the side tacos that come with them, which is a lot of food (and $$$). Also, we tried getting a regular cheese quesadilla for our toddler, and they charged us for a full sized meat one. Prices: Somewhat expensive for a food truck. We had tacos the night before at a different truck a block away, and the same amount of food was half the price. You are definitely paying extra for the novelty here. All in all, a fairly underwhelming experience, but definitely still worth a try for the birria bone marrow or the regular birria tacos.

BONE MARROW TACO by LAX... DECADENT!! When waiting for flights to arrive to LAX, if I'm early I like to wait along Sepulveda Blvd. Lots of yummy eats along the way to pass the time. Usually these pickups are late in the evening but today it was an afternoon flight and a whole buncha options for eats open up at this time! One food truck sits in front of Ralph's Supermarket called Pepe's Red Tacos, and in big letters on the truck it reads, "Birria De Res." Let's check it out, that sounds good! Wonder why it's called "El Cabo Pepe's" on Yelp? No one in front of the truck around 4pm so hopefully I get mi comida quick! Whole buncha birria choices but one just stared me down... HUESI TACO: BIIIG Bone WITH BONE MARROW?!?! HELL YEA-UHHH!!! As kids, there was always a race at dinner time, as to who could claim the heartiest serving of bone marrow whenever our mama would make the Filipino soup, Nilaga. So seeing this huge mass of bone marrow is truly tantalizing! No way we are passing this up today (drool in effect lol)! Takes but a few minutes for them to call our number and then this heavy load drops on us... BOOyah! The bone serving we get is so big, it sticks out of our styrofoam! Peeking in, the "Huesi Taco" is actually two birria de res tacos, a whopping piece of bone, a few lemon wedges, and consomé. With amount of bone marrow we got ,shoulda got a third taco, but the meal was filling as it was. Bone barrow was hearty, savory, and so decadent! The Birria meat was marinated perfectly, so tender and flavorful! Taco shells are fried to a nice crisp that adds a nice texture to every bite. Oh my OH MY...truly felt spoiled with this meal! VERY EASY RECOMMENDATION! NomNom level is TOP SHELF! Are we coming back? ABSOLUTELY!! :)

Yelped this birria place while waiting to meet with folks departing from LAX (aka parking for a short time in a mall lot without having to pay airport prices). The red truck was easy to find along Sepulveda, and since we were short on time, more favorable to access and order than the usual [famous] burger spot just down the street. Note: plane spotting is also possible from here. On a weekday afternoon, I encountered no line thus fast service after ordering the Sample Platter (Tacos Suaves/Taco Dorado/Quesi Taco/Consume). There were no tables, but that was expected as it's a food truck. The tacos were decent and filling; consume and salsa also good. We scarfed them down while still piping hot before thinking about taking photos. Price points are a little higher than other places, but I suppose that's due to the location. Would still consider coming back. 3.75

Lots of parking and no lines! Go go go!!!

First off great customer service!!! This is a great location because there's plenty of parking in the lot and no lines! Plus this is a great spot to grab some good eats before or after a flight from LAX. Ok so birria has been marinating and cooking for hours so it's super flavorful. You also get to enjoy the broth that the birria meat and bones cooked in called consume, which is essential for dipping your tacos in or simply drinking it up. The queso tacos dorados (crunchy) I recommend so you can dip in the consume and not have your cheesy beefy taco fall apart in your hands. You must get any option they have that includes cheese. The cheese and birria belong together. Top your tacos with cilantro and onions. SqueeZe some lime and add your salsa- red or spicy ground chili oil- and enjoy! But don't forget to dunk in the consume. SO SO GOOD. Bomb. Give this place a try. It will not disappoint.

Was visiting LA for the weekend and knew while I was out here I had to find the Pepe's Red Taco truck and grab me some good grub. I grabbed the sample platter, which comes with 4 different tacos and consume (dipping sauce). Before you dig in, I would definitely recommend having somewhere to sit down and enjoy the meal at. Depending on what you get, it can get messy and trying to eat standing up isn't a option. But with all that being said, I thought the tacos were just okay. Not bad by any means, but just not as good as everyone makes them seem. They just taste like regular tacos. I wasn't a fan of the consume either, which kinda "makes" the meal if you see anyone eat it on social media. If you haven't had it yet, it's worth the try! Let me know what you think! Oh also, they don't have any chicken/shrimp tacos, Atleast that's what we were told at the moment. So be ready for beef and pork!

Pepe's Red Tacos is a delicious taco truck that serves a variety of meat tacos, burritos, mulitas, and vampiros. We came Sunday early afternoon and there was a constant line of 1 so a quick wait but good sign plenty of people keep coming. I went with the Huesi taco - $10 gets you 1.5 bone marrow, a small cup and birria taco. The bone marrow is delicious and well cooked. Definitely get a lot for the price. Glad there's more taco trucks in more locations in la now!

    Birria Ramen Quesi Taco

My boyfriend has been dying to try a birria taco with consume and luckily Pepe's was right here as we're staying near the SOFI stadium. We ordered the birria ramen, the dorado taco, and quesi taco. The Birria Ramen came with a quesi taco. The birria ramen was okay in my opinion. This meal itself was heavy and a bit salty. I added some onions and cilantro to enhance the flavors a bit and to add a little crunch, which helped, but overall this was just an okay dish. I personally would have a Japanese style ramen. The quesi taco was very delicious as was the dorado taco. The quesi was a little bit softer while the dorado had a nice little crunch. We added onions, cilantro and some of the rosado salsa and phew boy was that spicy. Overall, I give Pepe's a 4/5. Sadly, our LA food tour is coming to an end and I couldn't check out all the good taco spots in LA, but glad I got to try out Pepe's!

'Bone Marrow' tacos said the big sign on the back of the truck. It called me like a siren song since I love bone marrow and love tacos. I've never had a bone marrow taco before and I was excited. Unfortunately what I got was really soggy, greasy and just disappointing over all. I ordered the 'tres amigos platter' which has one huesi taco, one Mulita and one vampiro for $13.75. The way they packed it pretty much guarantees that everything would be soggy and when I opened it up (only two minutes after they gave it to me). It was pretty disappointing to be faced with a red oil slick covering everything, in part because they put so much cheese on everything. They did give me plenty of napkins which is good since I needed all of them and still I had red oil all over my hands when I was done. The good: the beef Birria itself was tasty and tender. The chili oil was delicious. The bad: everything was soggy. Too much cheese. Consommé wasn't very flavorful. There wasn't a ton of marrow on the taco but what was there tasted good. Once again the flavor of cheese drowned out everything else. The consommé for dipping was nice but could have been a little more flavorful. This is a food truck so they might change locations but I went when they were on sepulveda near the Ralph's. If you don't want to eat in your car you can use some nearby nicely shaded tables that Ralph's provides (and they even have wet wipes for you to wipe your seat and tables down with). In fact I recommend highly that you do not eat in your car since you will be guaranteed to have red oil all over your interior.

I've been wanting to try these for the longest and finally got them. Meh, they were just ooooookay. Definitely not the worst, but I was underwhelmed. Service was great, order was accurate. Hmmm, the flavor lacked seasoning and the consume had a little after taste. Can't think of the spice that was just at the borderline of being overpowering...sage, maybe? Idk My meal was $15. Glad that I got to try them tho, but I'll pass the next time.

Arrived at LAX and was extremely hungry! El Cabo Pepe's was right there and convenient for us. It's a food truck off the parking lot of Ralph's. I got the three Amigos and my daughter got the Carne torta, all of them were delicious! The hot sauce was fire!!! And added that to everything. Consume was delicious. Customer service was great! They were very helpful! Since it was a food truck, we ate off to the side of the truck. But they checked in often.

Out of town NorCal dude looking for lunch, and my coworker suggested we check this area out because of the taco trucks. Best choice we made all day. Tacos came out fast, loaded with meat and freshly shaved onion, and the guy taking the orders hooked it up with some super spicy chili oil. Best birria tacos I've ever had. Washed it all down with a bottled horchata, wiped the taco sauce off my arm, and went back to work feeling replenished.

I came here on a Monday at about 4:45pm. We called ahead and placed an order on the phone. When we arrived, our food was being packed (fast service). This is a taco truck and I was not sure if they took credit cards, but they do. I ordered a birria burrito and birria mulitas. The food was tasty, but the consommé it came with was not flavorful because it was very watery. I'm not sure if I would frequent this truck on a regular because it is a little on the expensive side. I would prefer to be able to dine for the price of their burritos.

I ordered the beef birria burrito and the Huesi Taco. The Huesi taco is bone marrow with two beef birria tacos. I appreciate that the person taking orders let me know the Huesi was pricey ($16). The burrito was packed tightly. The rice and beans were cooked to tender and the meat was juicy. The Huesi Tacos were delicious. The meat was very tender and juicy. The bone marrow was cooked nicely and had good flavor. It was a fair size for the price.

The menu is quite simple, but beware that no prices are listed on the main menu, but they are on the paper menus. They accept Apple Pay/credit cards. I ordered the asada burrito and the pollo caramelo and added the grilled poblano (as recommended on Yelp!). The tortillas were the true stars -- soft, nice chew, with a buttery mouth feel (probably lard). The fillings were just ok. The inside reminded me of a Taco Bell 7 layer burrito -- a lot going on but all the flavors kinda blend together. I (incorrectly) thought the beans were refried, but they are not. Whatever is going on inside, I didn't find much structure. The burrito was the best. The caramelo was a lazily folded burrito. I read that it was like a quesadilla, but I couldn't disagree more. I would skip this next time. I spent $25 and it was a lot of food, but I wasn't impressed, especially given the hype and the fact that LA should really be the pinnacle of Mexican food. Not sure if I'll make a second trip here.

Having been to so many taco stands, I think what makes Tire Shop Taqueria really stand out are the right-off-the-grill charcoal-grilled meats, the freshly made tortillas literally in front of you as you are waiting on line, and the free guacamole that comes with each taco. The ordering process is like any other taco stand, though one difference is here the salsas/guacamole are all handled by the staff. If you'd like more of something, just ask them instead of reaching for the ladle yourself. There is a separate area though for grilled onions/peppers and radishes you can serve yourself. I got the asada, chorizo, cabeza, and al pastor, and they were all so good. The asada and chorizo are specifically grilled over charcoal, and that flavor really shines through. I loved how meaty and tender the cabeza was too, and the classic al pastor hit the spot. They have large communal tables setup, so it is a great friendly vibe to enjoy your meal I will say, the surrounding area is not the best in LA, especially given how the taco stand is only open at night. We found easy street parking in the neighborhood on 41st Street, and waited in line for about 15-20 minutes. We ordered the asada tacos. They pre-sauce your tacos, which was fine by me, but my boyfriend who can't handle as much spice would've preferred it on the side (so warning for anyone similar! they do put a little habanero on them, so just ask them for salsa on the side). I think I ran into a problem of reading too many raving reviews -- these tacos were good but I was expecting them to be mind blowing, so I was a little disappointed. I tasted the charcoal char, but kind of wished the taste was more pronounced, or at least the meat more seasoned. The hand made tortillas were definitely the coolest part, but I thought they were a little dry too. The ladies whipping those out are artists though. Actually, all the workers here have the assembly line down to the tea, and they definitely add a little flare for a show. I particularly liked how they had a lot of seating at this location, instead of just a couple stools lying around like most taco trucks. It felt more like outdoor patio seating than a normal taco stand. They could probably take more time to wipe down tables more often though. Overall would visit again if in the area, but wouldn't go out of my way for the tacos here.

Fresh seafood can be hard to find in L.A., but Holbox does it like no other. Takes me back to Mexico City every time!

I was looking for a taco spot with good reviews in the area and stumbled upon this gem of a taco…read morestand in the side of the road. These were truly the epitome of street tacos and absolutely nothing about the vibe, the service, and the FOOD, disappointed. Immediately upon arrival, I noticed the long line of people and said to myself, either this place is really good or really slow. It took me longer to decide what I wanted to try than what it took for the line to move and for it to be my turn to order. So yea, these folks are FAST and very courteous as well. They have real Al Pastor on the trompo (the spit) so of course I ordered pastor tacos and a pastor mulita. I also ordered a few SUADERO tacos which you don't find just anywhere. I am still raving about the amount of meat and flavor of the food here, it's insanely delicious. Once you get your food you make your way down to the end of the taco stand where you are met with an amazing array of fresh taco fixings and salsas. The pink creamy-habanero was the best and the green/red salsas followed right behind. I can't wait to go back to this place. It's mind blowing how a stand on the side of the road puts out better quality food than a brick/mortar taco shop..but these guys know exactly what they are doing and it was a pleasure to try their food. 20 out of 10 for this place.

I'm sorry but they were ok... nothing to rave about. That was truly disappointing because when you have a trompo going then the Al pastor tacos MUST hit! But they didn't for us. No disrespect to the locals but we've definitely had better in the Central Valley.. The area was decent with plenty of lighting and the folks cooking and serving were nice and polite.

Park your car. Grab a few tacos. Scarf them down. And be on your way. Or maybe do some grocery shopping while you're here.

Came here late one night driving back from an event since I've only heard good things…read more I got 2 tacos (asada and cabeza, 1 pollo quesadilla, a bean and cheese burrito and small bag of chips and guac. Everything came out to about $26 which is super reasonable! Service on a later end of the night was great! Super friendly and quick service. No indoor dining was available since they were closing in 15 mins. Food was ready in less than 10 mins. Salsa is free which both were delicious and had great flavor. Overall the food was delicious! It hit the spot. Filled with meat and the tortillas were a hit on their own. I would definitely go back again and try the other items that they had to offer.

Driving by I always see a line and read an article recently that Sonoratown is officially…read morerecognized in the California Michelin Guide - makes sense! I like that they were open late to satisfy a late night taco craving. Even though there is typically a line they are quite efficient with orders and even have a parking lot/outdoor dining space in addition to their indoor space so it doesn't feel cramped. It was my first visit so I had to get a mix of their tacos and burritos with the various meats they serve. It was a nice fact to know their tortillas have some lard also so it adds a nice flavor as well. + Burrito 2.0 (asada) + Chivichanga (chicken and beef) + Tacos (chorizo, tripe, cabeza, asada) I enjoyed the burrito with asada and thought it was good portion size for the cost. The guac, cheese, and beans pair well with the meat and has a nice grill on the tortilla. The tacos were a solid size as well but I was surprised to find the tripe as my favorite because they fry it and it adds a nice crunch/texture change. The cabeza was a close second with the stewed flavors. The chivichangas were also tasty but not the traditional chimichanga I was anticipating. It's definitely on the softer side as everything mixes together and there's not much of a texture change. Worth trying if you are curious though. I ordered to go so I didn't see if they have a salsa bar but I did have to pay $.10 per to go container which would be nice if they were free. However, I liked mixing their red and green salsa with each bite. I am curious to try their avocado salsa next time. Overall, I thought the portion sizes were good for the prices and I felt full afterwards.
