Went here during rodeo week and were surprised we could get reservations but we had out of town visitors and thought they would enjoy dining at a tucson icon. Wow! I've been in Tucson for about 2 months and experienced some really good food, but this was by far the best meal I've had. My wife and I split the largest prime rib and the kids had burgers from the kids menu. (These are such a good value for the quality of burger you get.). We also got a mud pie dessert that was amazing! Our server was very attentive, and the vibe is so cool as the restaurant has a cool history. I had a French dip sandwich with a tamale pie and borracho beans as side dishes. I shared an appetizer of onion rings with my friends. My family has been coming here for years! My dad used to even work here when he was younger. Service is always super friendly and fast. I crave their prime rib at least once a month. Ok - I have lived in Tucson since 1985 - and during that time have lived right next door to El Corral. When we first started going there it was a fraction of the size but always big on character. We celebrated many birthdays, anniversaries and regular old hungry nights in that place that was big on charm and yummy cowboy classics. At some point during the last decade things started to slide and we stopped going. Well, I will tell you what, they are BACK. The service is attentive, accommodating and so friendly. The food - better than before. We started with Cadillac margaritas, crisp house salads with homemade dressings and feasted on giant racks of pork ribs with scrumptious barbecue sauce and tamale pie. They are known for their prime rib but I am not a fan of prime rib in general so I cannot say. My sister has had the petite filet and enjoyed it highly. Howdy partners, we will be back! read more

Serving up steaks and other offerings for a half a century this restaurant was fun and had great prices. Plus a wonderful ambience. A large wood fired grill is open to see from one of the dinning areas. Lots of memorabilia to look at adorn this property. I have came a few times and was having dinner with both my parents and my in-laws and was treated terribly. Was told they wouldn't be serving us alcoholic and we were cut off after 1 drink that we hadn't even finished. We told the older white lady she must be confused on her tables and she informed us she didn't care what we thought. Tamale pie was more a pile of melted cheese than corn masa. Starter salad a joke- no improvement. Rolls still cold, hard tasteless. While management responds, it does not appear simple changes are acted on. I see the same complaints in numerous reviews. I did not care for the tamale pie, nor did others in my party, and the mashed potato brown gravy was on par with middle school cafeteria. Don't believe the hype. Just because it's old doesn't mean it's good. Salad, from a bag. Meat, fatty and not as tender as described, and the asparagus overdone, wilted and greasy. First time to el Corral. Let me start with this place is a lot bigger inside than I thought from looking at the outside. Inside they had many large rooms with the feeling you were in a house. They cook with mesquite wood floors are stone. It was very causal which I was happy about because I didn't feel like dressing up. The service was so great! Our waitress hustled her behind non stop. Always had a smile on her face. She truly made this review 4 stars. My husband ordered Prime rib. He said it was ok. He said it could have been seasoned more and more rare. I ordered the chicken breast stuffed with cheese and chilis. I asked for light cheese. Boy am I glad I did that because there was a lot of cheese when it came. I took the chicken out of the cheese and got the chili's out of the cheese. Once I did that it was pretty good . I think it also was cooked a tad longer than it should be but because of the grill and seasoning and chilis it was good. I also got the Tamale pie as the side. It wasn't very warm. But had a good flavor to me. It tasted like corn casserole. The salad that was served was a generous portion and fresh. And rolls came with the dinner. Not a good experience. I used to go to El Corral many years ago with my grandparents. My husband and I thought we would take our kids out for a fun evening across the city (we live in Vail). We had a reservation, but that didn't work out. My husband called in the afternoon to confirm, and they had no record of the reservation. We got to the restaurant and had to wait almost 30 minutes for a smashed together group of tables against a wall with the extra chairs and high chairs for the room. The sangria was 7up with a splash of wine, my filet mignon was dry and chewy (how? Why?). My daughters had the stroganoff and the meat was tough. Our server, Gabe, was really nice and attentive once he came over, but everything else about the visit was not worth the time, energy or money. Very disappointing. read more

El Corral is such a quintessential Tucson establishment, so much so that i will overlook areas where they fall short in deference to the general awesomeness of the place. It might not be the best steak or prime rib in the world, but for $13 for a petite cut (which is not really that petite) and $17 for a hefty T-bone, you can't do much better, if at all. I'll gladly pay $17 here over $28 at a "finer" establishment such as Cattleman's or Ruth Chris. My T-bone was cooked perfectly, and seasoned enough to impart it with juicy, salty goodness. The grill guy was able to cross-hatch sear the meat just right to give it the grill marks so pleasing to the eye. The soup of the day was clam chowder and I was surprised to find it very homemade tasting. I had expected something out of a can but happily it wasn't so. The tamale pie is still old faithful and won't disappoint. I tried the mashed potatoes and gravy and unfortunately it might have very well come from a mix. The gravy could give KFC a run for the money though. Service was solid and I had no complaints. The food was brought out quick and hot. The economic downturn has its upside. We didn't have to wait an hour to get a seat, and the dining room was not crowded or noisy at all. We were seated instantly. I remember the old days when there would be a huge crowd of eager diners waiting for their name to be called out in front of the restaurant. Back in the day we use to pull shenanigans such as sending one person an hour early to get our name on the list. I went to El Corral for the first time last night with a party of 10 (including four children). The service was friendly, and the food was served quickly. The server brought out complimentary rolls that were a bit dry but not bad. I ordered the Tucson cut of the prime rib (6 ounces) for $19.99, which came with a side salad and one other side. I chose the baked potato, which was moist and cooked well. The prime rib was tender and cooked to my liking (medium rare), but the au jus lacked flavor. My boyfriend chose the tamale pie for his side; it's a delicious corn and chile casserole topped with melted cheese. I would definitely choose this as my side if I return. El Corral is a Tucson staple, with reasonable prices that are what you'd expect for a mid-range steakhouse. read more

What was otherwise an excellent meal, however, was ruined by the table side salad that was filled with old and wilted greens, even some with brown & slimey edges. That was not a great way to start a meal. El Corral also has an issue with Covid-19 virus control. While I chose a take-out to avoid a higher chance of infection, I witnessed a large party seated who had finished eating. They not only still had their masks off, but were singing. Singing is one of the ways of being the most viral infectious in public. I should also note that no outdoor dining was offered. Served actually hot rather than lukewarm on warm plates that also would not make the green beans cold. With high quality rolls unlike something from the cheapo Fry's section. From the 1st time I ordered the Prime Rib , Ive never ordered anything else, it is always very very good & the horseradish is amazing (HOT!) as well. I was excited to try this place. It's been around forever and I've always driven by as a kid thinking it was so expensive and fancy. It's not fancy by any means. I had ribs that were room temperature, they were ok. My wife had chicken that was awful and also barely warm. Tamale pie was soggy and gross. Dinner salad was discolored and tiny. Our kids dinner was 2 chicken nuggets and 5 fries....very underwhelming. Friend had a well done burger that was pink inside charred on the outside and 5 fries. Ahhh-mazing prime rib! We came in and got seated right away, the place is huge, with a ranch style kind of vibe. The sever was very helpful and friendly and very attentive. We tried the green chili appetizer which was very good and the el coral prime rib with a salad and mashed potatoes. Man! That was good prime rib and in my opinion, tasted better than my favorite at outback restaurant! The server came out with the salad and tossed all the ingredients and dressing in front of us which was pretty unique and fresh tasting. This place has probably seen better days! The food was equivalent to a public school lunch on a special day. The quality did not match the prices at all! The cocktails didn't use marichino's but cheap ice cream Sunday cherrys. The steak wasn't seasoned and was comparable to a Walmart steak. The kids Mac and cheese was definitely from an east Mac box. The shining glory of this place was the French fries. Oddly enough, they were most certainly from Costco or Sam's. The bread rolls were cold and had the feel of a sacked roll from Safeway and room temp butter. I know a lot of places have been hit hard by the pandemic but come on! $65 for a Costco dinner for two? Slim down your tables and up your quality and merit the high prices. I will not go back til there quality matches the price tag. read more

Very disappointed. Two stars only because the prime rib was good although VERY small portion. The horseradish is just straight horseradish, they don't bother offering a less harsh mix. The waitress seemed annoyed, not rude but not friendly. Went in on a Friday night about 8, was surprised they closed so early at on weekend but I see why. Restaurant was empty. It USED to be the place to go. Another couple came in and were rudely told they were closing soon. They were obviously rushed through their dinner. The artichoke dip was very small as well and very average. Probably frozen and reheated. The salads small, the corn side dry. If your used to Silver Saddle, you will be disappointed.
