I'm not a picky eater because I'm a fat ass and will absorb anything but this was most mediocre place I've had. don't know if it was just a bad batch but the tacos were very disappointing. My girlfriend, brother and I got 6 tacos (carne asada and legua) and a carne asada burrito meal. They were extremely flavorless, no lime came with the meal, the meat was chewy and had hard pieces in them. I wouldn't recommend this place. $3 tacos for this low quality was just a let down . My go to for ordering Mexican food on the north side of Chicago. Affordable, delicious and tastes authentic. Vegetarian burritos are usually really tough for me, because a lot of restaurants are big on overstuffing them with too-large vegetables and nothing much else. This one is PERFECT. Rice beans, avocado, lettuce, tomato, and cheese is all it needs but it is still gigantic and filling. One of my brother's friends, famously, consumed TWO Burrito Suizas at one sitting (may he RIP). My brother's girlfriend, now wife, once ordered a Vegetarian Burrito here, while we teased her unmercifully "WTF is that, a lettuce burrito?!". I was craving a steak burrito badly over the weekend so I decided to try El Famous Burrito for the first time and I was not disappointed. Huge burrito for the price and so yummy! To make it even better, I ordered delivery from their website and received my food within 10 minutes! Picked up lunch on Saturday for two kids and two adults. Spent ~$35 for two tacos (al pastor and tongue), two burritos (al pastor and steak), and two tortas (chicken and steak sandwiches) with two orders of fries, a sprite, and horchata. The al pastor is spicy! Delicious! The tongue was so-so, I've been searching for one that matches this place in tri-Taylor and have yet to find anything comparable. Chicken was average. Steak was disappointing, it was thinly sliced beef, not what I expected. No carnitas on the menu either. My favorite part was the bread on the torta! So light, fluffy, and delicious. And the portion for the torta, omg. Bigger than an 11 year-old's face. Overall, food hit the spot, but this wouldn't be my go-to joint for Mexican food. read more

One day I was craving some good Mexican food. Luckily I stumbled across El Famous and decided to give them a try. Thank God I did! Where have you been all my life?!? I tried the steak torta and almost passed out when I saw the size of it! It's literally the size of a soccer ball! Enough for 2+ meals! The steak was cooked perfectly and had the perfect bread to meat ratio. My hubby tried the taco dinner and we both loved the al pastor tacos! They were a perfect mixture of sweet and spicy and left a kick in your mouth. Delicious!!! We've also tried the enchiladas and burritos and all are equally good. My favorite things is the red salsa. This is my favorite of the Rogers Park taquerias, which is really saying something, as there are about two dozen within a half-mile stretch of Clark Street. The late, lamented mc quake strongly recommended this place, and he is a much more expert source than I. The food is solid and they are 100% gringo-friendly. Actually, they are just plain friendly. If you dine in, they actually bring the stuff to you. And they smile. And speak! (Not just grunts.) They also give you free chips and salsa. The grub is hot and fresh-cooked whether you are getting "for here" or "to go." I tend to get burritos here, because a burrito is a manly, strenuous piece of food. (Like, imagine me flexing my guns before picking it up, and then growling after taking a bite.) Their tacos are good and they happen to give you a lot of meat here, but face it--tacos are a snack...a burrito is a meal. Pork is their best meat, flavorful and cooked pretty close to perfect. The chicken and steak are skippable, frankly. The steak is tough and dubious, and the chicken is dry and occasionally contains a piece of bone. The ground beef is actually better than you'd expect, tasty and not at all greasy. The red salsa is better but the green is still okay. They have decent meal specials for six bucks--you can't beat that. Or just eat the manly burrito. Or mix and match a few tacos. Whatever you fancy. I need to try their enchiladas because that is my favorite Mexican food item. And their guacamole (hmm, I need a return visit again already). And they have a few breakfast items too. Stopped in for Taco Tuesday and...*sighs* So disappointed. We dined in so we got complementary chips and two salsas. The chips were thick and hard, so maybe they were store-bought or old...or both. The green (possibly avocado-based) salsa was really good with just the right amount of spice but the red salsa was very BLAH. It reminded me of jarred salsa (which I despise) but tasted less of tomato juice and more of tomato paste. My boyfriend and I got two tacos apiece, his on flour tortillas and mine on corn tortillas. They were bigger than most and filling but what use is all of that when the food doesn't have much flavor? There was no spice, no savoriness...nothing. Even if I had thought to add salt, it wouldn't have enhanced anything. As far as the other tacos, I know that chicken tacos can be bland but when two type of salsas don't help the taste, you know it's over with. We finished everything because we were really hungry but we won't be going back, not even for $1.50 tacos. We'll just stick to Burrito House on Elston for our taco cravings. read more

El Famous is a Chicago chain that has multiple locations and is known for their huge burritos. (If you're like me and can't eat that much food, they also have a junior burrito that's perfect.) I've been coming to this location in Rogers Park, in what I call the little Mexico area, for at least 15 years, mainly for taco Tuesday. They used to have $1 tacos on Sundays and Tuesdays, and they're now up to $1.50. But still, at $1.50, they're an excellent value. You can get them the traditional way; with cilantro and onions, or the American way, with lettuce, tomatoes and cheese, or they're always happy to make them how ever we want. (We call ahead and get them to go.) They have a dining room, if you care to dine in. They have a variety of meats (steak, chicken, pork, etc.) and they double the tortilla so they don't fall apart on you. My whole family loves them, along with their quesadillas and tostadas, too! Their hot sauce (the green) is a delicious compliment. If you have a sweet tooth, try their churros! The rest of their menu is at excellent prices, and with all Mexican cooks and pleasant, friendly counter help, they are the real deal! read more

I got lengua and al pastor tacos - the lengua was solid but nothing special while I was pleased by the juiciness and flavor of the al pastor. I couldn't detect any pineapple though :(.
