Used to come here for lunch fairly often. Service is always friendly, and the place always looks so festive (probably because of the decor). Food is not bad considering the price. Come here on Wednesday and get their enchiladas special! Sometimes they have free sopapillas and mariachi playing for the guests. It's the perfect spot to have lunch or dinner after you visit the nearby museum! PS. They have their own parking lot, and it's free parking for their customers. read more

Listen, it's chain Mexican food in a large, loud environment. It was exactly what I expected. We were seated immediately and the food arrived within 10 minutes of ordering. Complementary chips/salsa were delicious. Enchiladadas were fine but nothing special. Puff taco was good. Service was polite. Not sure why people are struggling with the parking. You just park in the lot and then ask the host(ess) for the QR code where you register your license plate online. It was a pretty simple process, though I'll admit it wasn't clear and we did need to ask them for the QR code/website. If you want halfway decent Mexican food and you want to get in and out quickly, this is your place. If you want something beyond that, maybe look elsewhere. My wife and I had dinner at El Fenix on Camp Bowie last night, Dec. 30th, and was sorely disappointed with the food and service. My dinner order was the Pollo a la Parillo that was set before me in three separate columns consisting of chicken, spinach, and rice; the one strip of chicken was thin and dry, the spinach tasted that it been cooked in hot salted boiled water and the mushrooms were so few I fitted all on my fork, the rice had the taste I expect from a box, and the pico de gallo was mainly chopped onions with a sprinkle of jalapenos. I smothered my meal with salsa and choked down the meal so as not to offend my party's dinner host. While waiting for the bill to be paid I witness a guest ask for menus for her party (easily numbering more than 15) and was given an arm full of menus for her to pass it out rather than (an action I would expect) the host taking the time in passing it out to her party members; when the woman came back and asked for more menus and I heard the host say the remaining ones were for guests coming in (there were no guests in line). read more

3-24-2024 Had dinner here before a Mavericks game. Convenient location It's a short walk from the Dart Victory station, close to AAC and Perot museum. Plan your arrival time accordingly as they can get busy. The dining area is huge, and there is a bar off to the side. Our Server was friendly and attentive. He checked in on us often while we got settled and viewed the menu. The pan seared fish tacos were very good, ordered the sauce on the side with black beans and rice. I was here for a conference and some colleagues and I were craving some Mexican food so we went here. I'm glad we did the service and food was so good. We got the Botanas sampler and steak/chicken fajitas. The chips and salsa is really good- the salsa tastes like salsa and not marinara like other restaurants. The chips are fresh and crispy. The appetizer had a good variety and we all really enjoyed it. Cooked well, not soggy. Mmmmmm and the quesadillas were so yummy! The fajitas were cooked to perfection and had a good flavor. I have been to many Mexican places and I thought that this one would top em all. With all of the reviews and all of the 5 stars, I was hoping that it was better than it was. To be fair, we were in a group of 12. We were in the back in a huge party room that is big enough to house 50 Clydesdales. Rather, it was filled with many different smaller parties which made it a very loud room. It was hard for someone with hearing aids to hear anything. Our food was ordered hap-hazardly, as I wasn't asked what kind of beans I wanted for my sides but just received the black beans and stayed with that. I ordered the Spicy Brisket Enchiladas. My wife ordered the Tina combo, cheese enchilada with ranchero sauce and a puffy taco. I don't know what kind of spice was added to the brisket, but to me, there was "no spice" in the meat. I ordered them with ranchero sauce, wasn't happy with the sauce either. My wife did not get her enchilada with Ranchero sauce but with chili con carne. She said that the chili did not taste very well. So both orders were brought out incorrectly. Not much to speak of actually. I have a very good pallet and can detect different types of food and even for Tex-Mex, it wasn't the best. I ordered dessert, Flan. That was pretty good. The caramel topping wasn't sitting on the top and seems to have just been poured around the dessert. Not the way is should be either. I was very impressed by the chips and salsa. My idea of the best start to the whole evening. Very fluffy and tender chips with very good individually served salsa. It was the perfect start. Too bad they couldn't keep up with the standard for the rest of the meal. Our service seemed to be good insomuch as we were paid fairly good attention and were never out of beverage or chips. The facility too was very impressive. A lot of history in this restaurant provides many items to look at. My favorite chain Mexican Restaurant of all time. They understand that chili con carne belongs on top of a cheese enchilada and not some watery "gravy". They've been doing this for 105 years so I think they win the prize for most experience in creating TexMex food! Even though it's no longer on the menu you can still order "the Martinez plate". Sometimes the chicken tortilla soup is unbelievably salty. Sometimes it doesn't taste like any salt was used at all. Sometimes the enchiladas are rich and tasty. Sometimes they're bland. Sometimes the margaritas taste like they're genuinely made with tequila. Sometimes they taste like pure lime, sugar, and salt mix -- nothing but heartburn in a glass. After two bad experiences in a row (one for a professional event in which you could only redeem drink tickets for terrible batches of margaritas), I can no longer recommend this place like I once did. read more

We came in with a party of 6 right at opening, so 11am on a Sunday. There was probably 2 other tables in the restaurant. The hostess first tried to seat us at a small round table, but thankfully had no problems moving us to a larger table of my choosing. The waiter arrived quickly to take our drink orders, and our chips and salsa arrived just as promptly. The waiter took our orders pretty quickly and was happy to answer any questions we had. We ordered queso and guacamole as a starter, and the waiter was very good at doing the combo rather than individual (which saved us a few bucks). The guacamole felt like it was missing something. It needed some salt or lime or pepper...I can't really put my finger on what it exactly needed. The queso was pretty bland. No flavor, not even the flavor of cheese. That's ok, the chips and salsa was pretty good with some added salt. There were various meals ordered by my party. I had cheese enchiladas with ranchero sauce. I was excited about the ranchero sauce, as the waiter suggested it for the flavor. However, the sauce was pretty bland. The rice and beans? Again, needed some salt and some sort of seasoning. The enchiladas, sigh. Ok, so the flavor was ok, but whereas the sauce was hot, the tortillas and cheese underneath the sauce was cold. It was as though it just wasn't cooked long enough. The tortillas were not soft and the cheese was not melted at all. Around the table, there were also some issues: the chicken and steak fajitas that were being shared was also not cooked long enough for some of it and hard as a rock for the beef. The onions were not translucent at all, and the beef resembled beef jerky. My aunt did tell the waiter once he returned, but that was about 15 minutes after the food was delivered. The waiter was prompt in getting her some strips of beef instead, but it was late in the game. The other cheese enchilada and cheese taco around the table was not cooked long enough either. The taco salad was apparently bland as well, because she grabbed the salsa, guac, and queso to put on top of it. Unfortunately for the majority of us, we were starving, so we ate what we could and filled up on chips. I was very disappointed in this trip. I've been to El Fenix all over the state, and as the flagship restaurant? Not great at all. I hope this was an off day, because if this is the norm, I don't see the chain lasting long. You could probably get away with a lack of flavor in some other state and targeted to people who can't do spicy, but this is Texas. There's no shortage in amazing Tex-Mex in the metro. read more

I think I'm officially done with elfenix after about 40 plus years sadly. Portions are shrinking prices are elevating and the service well which has never been great Has really sunk to a level of annoying proportions. I actually dined at the mesquite location but there wasn't that location listed. I ordered the botanas platter. I didn't get the guacamole and pico it's supposed to come with. Couldn't find the server and by the time I did the meal was practically over. Kinda made a face when I asked for more salsa. In closing there are much better places out there for Tex mex This place is pretty old school Time to move on read more
