Had awful experience here. Wow. First time I had a manger talk down to me. Our food was room temp when it was served with the napkin holding the hot plate. The plate was much hotter than the food. Waitress served the food and never came back to check on us. Hubby and grandson ate theirs. I could not eat mine. Then to top it off the manager (which keep coughing, could not finish a sentence without stopping to cough. Should had stayed home. Atleast she coughed into her sweater)SHE ARGUED THAT MY FOOD WAS COOKED WHEN IT WAS ORDERED. THE SPECIALTY FOODS ARE COOKED ONLY WHEN ORDERED. WOW. If there was a small child or baby at our table we could had fed the child directly from the plate without waiting for the food to cool or us blowing on it. Awful service. Shame. Frank was a great server! He was on top of things and recommended what to order. My friend was in love with the tortilla soup and I had the chicken fajitas which were great as well. We also had the watermelon and peach margaritas and they were to die for! 100% recommend this place! read more

I LOVE MY EL FENIX!!! Inexpensive & amazing! I grew up going to this one & also the one on Lemmon, but this one is near & dear to my heart hehe. I love how it's decorated kinda old school but cute mexican style:-) It's exactly the same since I was a lil girl:-) I ALWAYS take my out-of-town friends here for authentic tex-mex grub. I always end up ordering the same thing & it always tastes great & I love the consistency of good food! It had been a while since I'd had dinner here. Tonight it was wonderful. It reminded me so much of when we first started coming here. The salsa was very fresh and bright tasting. Just the right amount of spice. The guacamole on the tostada was perfect, just the right amount of salt & lemon; just like the guacamole I grew up eating. I'm not normally a fan of beans, but the beans tonight were very flavorful. The Taxco plate is a wonderful sampler of El Fenix's delights. Charlie was my waiter and he was perfect, refills provided regularly. The only thing I missed was there were none of those wonderful little chocolate covered mint patties that were always the perfect ending to a Tex-Mex dinner. read more

There is something about this place that makes me feel like I am actually in Mexico having a homemade meal. The service is pretty good here for starters. The chips and salsa are always fresh and tasty. I ordered the chicken quesadillas once and they were so good that every time I come here, I always get this same thing. The quesadillas are much greasier than at other restaurants, but that's a part of that "home cooked" feeling I get when I eat here. The food is very affordable, and as long as your expectations aren't too high, you will enjoy this experience. Went there for lunch. Frank was our server. He did a excellent job of taking care of us. He was fast with the drinks and he quickly refilled the chips when they were low. My wife has a very picky order and it came out perfectly. The food was good and came out fast and hot. We would definitely come back to the el fenix on Webb Chapel. This is a family favorite with good inexpensive food. I live in DC but every time I come this is a MUST eat. We went there for lunch and they have huge portions at lunch specials. My favorite part about El Fenix is the salsa. It is honestly one of the best that I've had at a mexican restaurant. It has great consistency, flavor and the right amount of heat. I've bought the bottled salsa that they sell, but nothing beats eating it fresh with their homemade chips. El Fenix is a great choice for this area if you're looking for delicious inexpensive food. Their tacos rocked my world and I was totally satisfied with my order. The unlimited chips and salsa is pretty standard for tex mex places and I was disappointed with how bland the salsa was. Their waiters kind of seemed to have a lack of interest which was awkward. I am so sad to write this review. I LOVE El Fenix. I grew up eating at El Fenix and have eaten at many Dallas locations. But, our lunch experience at the Forest Ln location today was quite possibly the worst restaurant experience I have ever had. The only redeeming factors was the service and the chips and salsa. The chips and salsa are my comfort food and they did not let me down. The service was friendly at least. But the restaurant was run down, the restroom was disgusting and our table was just beyond yucky. The fajitas were mediocre at best. We will not be going back to this location and if El Fenix overall doesn't up its game, they may have lost this long-time customer. read more

It's in the hood and it's pretty good. Lots of "early bird special" types, but hey they know what's good. Tortilla chips are yummilicious and the fish tacos are pretty good. I had to update that the service has gone downhill. It took forever to get water and drinks more than once now. There seem to be newbie wait staff every time that aren't in the know which isn't necessarily their fault. Probably won't go back for awhile. read more

Disgusting. Never again. Went to El Fenix with a coworker today due to a $10 coupon applied to the table. The $10 off was not worth the experience at this location at all. First, upon being seated, a waitress came and asked about our drink orders. At least five minutes passed with no sign of our sodas or the waitress. After more waiting, a different waiter brought out drinks and left. A third, yes third, totally different waiter came to take out order. After waiting and waiting, we finally received our food. No offers for refills, nothing. We both been drinking our original sodas, and finally flagged down the third waiter toward the end of the meal to ask for a refill and our check. No apologies for the inattentive was or the changes in waitstaff. Not sure what's going on there, but it was the worst service I've had in a while, and I eat out a lot. The food itself was mediocre at best. Chips and salsa are not great, and the food tasted very plain. Perhaps the most disturbing is the general cleanliness and condition of the restaurant. It doesn't look like they have cleaned it since it opened decades ago. There are light fixtures on the half wall next to the booths at eye level, and they were literally covered in dust. Many of the light colored stucco walls were discolored due to dirt and grime. There is a huge fireplace in the middle of the restaurant that looks like a campfire, and it also had layers of dust all over it. If the dining room looked like that, I am scared to imagine what the kitchen looks like. Due to the terrible service, mediocre food & cleanliness, I will NEVER go back and would advise against it. I would much rather have Mi Cocina, Uncle Julio's, or Anamias any day! read more

I love this place! I drive 30 minutes to eat at this location. The food is consistently great. Simple Tex-Mex, just like I like it. The staff has worked here for years. I always like getting Jesus as our waiter. He is the best. If you're looking for upscale trendy, try somewhere else. I got some food to go, and this particular location doesn't do to go orders well. There wasn't much chili on the enchilada or tamale, and they didn't even put enough rice and beans in to cover the bottom of the plastic container. Unfortunately, I didn't notice this until I got back to the office, which didn't make me popular with my coworkers. Both the Grapevine and Lewisville locations fill the rice and beans to the top of their little compartments in the to go box, and put more chili on the entrees. It's worth the extra drive to go to one of the other locations. read more

I had heard a lot of good things about this restaurant from the people I have met since transferring from Austin. The chips were surprisingly crisp and the salsa was mediocre. You can't get good Mexican food In St. Louis but you can in Texas. El Fenix has the flavor. The chips are crisp and light. The salsa is layered with flavor. I gave it one star because there was not an option for zero stars. Twelve of us met for dinner at the ForestLane location yesterday at 7:30 PM, and the food was disgusting. I ordered brisket tacos, which turned out to be some kind of meat mush doused in red sauce topped with rotten avocados. Not to mention everyone's food was cold. My husbands enchiladas were chewy, it was like they had been prepared hours earlier. Also,at 8:30 they stared vacuuming our section. This caused dust to fly everywhere, and one of the members of our party had a sneezing attack. This was a very disappointing experience. read more

I can't believe all the good reviews this place gets. I read them and was really hyped about getting some good mexican food. Bleh....bland, bland, bland. The chips and salsa were pretty good but it went downhill from there. The rice was so dry my husband called it "saharan." I've been dining at El Fenix since I was a little girl, and now we take our two preschoolers there regularly. It's not fancy, but they've recently updated the decor, and it's very comfortable. The food is consistently good, which a lot of options to choose from, and the chips are the best anywhere! My husband would definitely recommend their margaritas, and there is a good kids menu as well. I can never pass up the bean and cheese nachos! A great place for the family. read more
