3 tacos (al pastor & carne asada) $3 ea
    Mandy G.

Did you know Anthony Bourdain ate here?! Cause I didn't .. We found out about this place after the death of Anthony Bourdain when we started watching his videos for SF. Located at the Alemany Farmers Market for Saturdays, this place offers a great selection of Mexican dishes. A great place to stop by when wandering the farmers market. Parking is going to be hard so unless you're coming here for the fresh vegetables and stuff too - you should stop by here! My bf got the Super Huarache ($16?) and it comes with 2 types of meat of your choice, onions, cilantro, 2 salsas, sour cream, cheese, and I swear there are beans in there too lol. It was good but I can't describe much of the flavor since I didn't eat it till I got home. I got 3 tacos - 2 carne asada and 1 al pastor. By the time I got home to eat it, they were cold BUT they were still so good! I think their tortillas are delicious. Their tortillas are a bit bigger than the normal street tacos and they also pack it with a lot of meat. I can't imagine having it fresh. I will definitely come back for their tacos. Great food! I definitely need to come back again, when we're ready to fight the crowd for parking. Can't wait to try other dishes on the menu as well. P.S. They also have a restaurant in Lakespur.

Even before this place was featured on Anthony Bourdain's The Layover on the Travel Channel, I've been hitting this spot for a long time even before the check-in feature was available on Yelp. Every Saturday, we'd hit up Alemany Farmers' Market for some fresh veggies, fresh fruits, fresh apple juice, fresh eggs and maybe even some Balut. After gathering our bountiful harvest (sort of) and working out a sweat following Da Wifey, I'll reward myself with having a quick bite or two. Hey, those bags of fresh oranges can be quite the workout. I often wondered what a Huarache was, and by my accounts they looked like Tacos on steroids to me. There's plenty of options and I always mix it up with different variations. But one topping that I must always have is the fried egg. Oh yummy goodness. The yolk just oozes and saturates the whole enchilada and ties everything together like a fiesta in my mouth. And everything is made fresh to order with fresh ingredients. My tummy is always satisfied and always look forward to next Saturday so I can reward myself with some more Huarache Loco. I'm always crazy happy for this place. Da Bull approves you go loco.

Chorizó taco , was good !!

Ordered a chorizo taco , I thought it was good , I had the right taste it wasn't too strong or too bland . Also ordered a Chicharon quesadilla , that was good , not a lot of restaurants make this type of quesadilla , yellow corn tortilla , cheese , cream and salsa , not bad . My wife ordered a tlacoyo with chicken she said it was ok , not great .over all I give it 4 stars wasn't the greatest Mexican food but it was good I would definitely go back !

Handmade blue corn tortilla and their orange salsa so good and worth it. It's always hard to decide what to get here since everything sounds and looks delicious. This time we ordered a huarache and a taco. I love the handmade blue corn tortilla and the bright orange salsa. Lamb was juicy, texture perfect. The huarache was well balanced: cheese, lettuce, meat, grilled onions, sour cream, and of course that beautiful bright salsa. I could eat more but we had errands to do. Definitely worth a bite if you're ever craving a snack or meal break from your farmers market shopping.

Not gonna lie, I saw this place on Check Please Bay Area and had it bookmarked for like two years and finally made it here due to an airport visit. Since the show raved about the huaraches, I made sure order the "sandal" with Tinga. I totally understand why pre-Colombian Mexicans named this dish after a shoe. Not only is this corn slipper shaped like a shoe, but it's as hard as shoe leather! The plastic knives and forks have no business cutting into a huarache. I had to break out the safety glasses to make sure plastic shards didn't shoot into my eyeballs every time I tried to cut into this monstrosity. The chicken tinga was pretty tasty, but man, I couldn't get over the inedible corn sandal that it was served on. I might as well have been eating Flojos. That being said, I would venture back for the lamb soup or the chilaquiles, simply based on food that I saw other people eating. While my experience might have been three stars (or less!), some of the other food looked amazing.

    The Alambre Huarache

After seeing this little team reviewed on Check Please Bay Area, http://blogs.kqed.org/checkplease/2011/10/26/el-huarache-loco-restaurant-info/ I decided to give them a try while visiting the Alemany Flea Market. Their signature Huarache comes with a few choices including one called the Alambre for $6.75. Loved the freshly made oval huarache, a thick masa (hominy) meal freshly grilled and then covered with various ingredients. The Alambre is steak with chorizo, bacon, grilled peppers grilled onions and cheese. Large and delicious, the huarache itself is really different, not just a thick corn tortilla, but about 1/8" thick, fried crusty on the outside but moist and tender just beneath. The bits of steak were not the most tender at times but overall very good and different than anything that is typical Mexican American. We also had a Pollo/Chicken enchilada covered with green chile verde $8. This was a large plate covered with shredded chicken, queso fresco, cilantro, onions and sour cream. It was good but for some reason not one of my favorite versions of this dish. Still this was a lot of fresh, generously proportioned food for relatively little and all of them were prepared when ordered--no pre-prepared/reheated stuff. And what was interesting was to see, of the 3 food places set up next to Huarache Loco, how few customers they had in comparison. I can see why. So if you're at the Alemany Farmer's Market and are interested in trying out Mexican street food, give these guys a try and let me know how you like them.

For once in my life, I was forced to eat like a civilized man. On the outside, everything looked normal, but in the inside it was anything but normal: I had to open my third eye center so that I could ascend my primal instinct of going to town on this burrito. Equipped with a knife, I sawed thru that behemoth methodically - too fast and she would burst open, too slow & she would give me the cold side eye. I am the burrito slayer. Cash only, was very very well priced for the size (about $13. Receipt didn't make it out alive).

I have dined here many times in the past, and this is a cash-only restaurant. I ordered the Regular Burrito with Beef Steak ($10.25). The regular burrito comes with a flour tortilla, rice, beans, salsa, onions, and cilantro, plus your choice of meat or vegetarian. Meat choices listed on the menu: * Al Pastor - Marinated Pork * Carnitas - Deep Fried Pork * Chile Verde - Pork Green Sauce * Chorizo - Mexican Sausage * Carne Asada - Steak * Lengua - Beef Tongue * Pollo - Chicken * Cabeza - Beef Head * Tripas - Intestines I asked the cashier which meat was most popular, and he recommended the beef steak, which had a slight hint of spiciness. The burrito came with pinto beans and rice. I forgot to ask if I could substitute black beans. The burrito wasn't too salty, and the beef steak was just okay. I also think the $10.25 Carne Asada burrito is a good deal. At other taquerias, carne asada is often an additional charge or the burrito costs more when you choose steak. I usually ask for a receipt even when paying cash. When I checked my receipt, I noticed I was charged an additional $0.25 for "Bolsa To Go" (bag) even though I was dining in and didn't receive a to-go bag. It's not about the $0.25, but I think it's important for a business to have integrity and charge customers only for what they actually receive. I hope this isn't something being charged to other dine-in customers as well. Overall, I would come back to try a different meat, but next time I'll make sure to clearly say dine-in and check my receipt to make sure I wasn't charged for a to-go bag.

I got my food about 10 mins after ordering. I went with what was popular. The Dorada (toasted) super carne asada burrito was great, but I wish it was more toasty. It was softer than it looked and I assumed that was because they are frying it in lard ? But overall solid and great burrito. I thought the tacos are slept on here. Both asada and lengua tacos were incredible. Tortillas were really fresh and yummy, and they stuff it with a lot of meat (). We came here on a random Thursday at 3 pm and surprisingly, the line still almost reached the end of the block. Luckily, the line moves pretty quickly and the food is solid, but be prepared to wait for a bit. My favorite meats here are the cabeza and the lengua. The cabeza is super fatty and tender and has the amazing shreddy quality of a slow cooked meat. It had the soft melty texture of collagen and was super delicious. The lengua is also really good. It was super tender and soft and had the distinct taste of beef tongue but wasn't too overpowering. The carne asada and carnitas had a good flavor but were a little bit dry for me. I think they would be better in a super taco or burrito where you have the extra fat from the cheese and avocado. My only complaint about this place is the price. I realize that everything in SF is expensive, but over $5 for a single taco and almost $9 for a single super taco is pretty egregious. There's food trucks all over the Bay Area offering cheaper (and almost, if not, just as good) tacos in my opinion.
