We have had some really bad bowls and a really good one in Denver. El Marquez continues to be our solid go to with some of the best. I do miss some of the staff that was here a while back but I also like the upgrades to the dinning area. The place has a local feel to it and continue to deliver quality traditional food. I was in the area and saw this place and decided to try it out. We ordered the albondigas and a couple of tacos to go, and it was pretty good. Very y authentic. But i'm giving it 3 stars because of the service. Very friendly staff, but it took forever for our food!! There was only one couple eating at the restaurant, and we still literally waited 40 minutes for our food!!!! Which is crazy!! I used to frequent El Marquez years ago and always enjoyed, but I haven't been back until the previous owners returned. They did not disappoint. The fried fish with the garlic sauce on the side is delicious. I had to come back and get it again. The wet burritos always hit their mark. Came here for lunch with an couple of coworkers. It's an authentic mexan spot. No thrills or frills. I got the chicken mole with a side of rice, salad, and refried beans. Mile was very flavorful with a slight smoky taste. Chicken was tender and came with a decent sized portion. Rice and beans also well-cooked and delicious. After lunch, I mistakenly left my phone at the restaurant. They held it for me until I could come back and pick it up after work. I used to come here all the time as a kid with my grandma, so I was excited when my company hosted a lunch there the other day. Everyone ordered something different, so I'll just comment on my own experience. The service was great, and liked the remodel of the restaurant. Our server was attentive and quick to fix my order when it came out wrong. The only issue was that my fajitas were served on a plate, while my coworker's came out on a sizzling platter. Not sure why the difference, but they were still good. Overall, it was a nice experience. Not amazing but definitely nostalgic, bringing back fond memories of my grandma. It's been years since I've been to Marquez. I worked in the area and used to frequent it often, my kids grew up on stopping in for dinner too. I'm visiting from Texas and had to have a cold beer that I can help myself to and some tacos. I didn't take any pictures because I was hungry and quite frankly didn't think about it at the time. The ladies working were very attentive, a lot of the same family members are still around. It's a great neighborhood place that's been around for a long time. Today I had a couple of fish tacos. The salsa and chips were very good but the tacos were delicious. I love and miss places like this. LA can keep $4+ gas and all this crazy traffic and I'll take back my best memories of living here. I have been going here since I was a teenager! I'm 65! My grandpa is Mexican and this was one of his all time fav places. We went often with many many family members! It's SUPER GOOD! The Carnitas burrito wet is are family's favorite plate. We often took them to go for party's and picnics etc. It makes me want to cry seeing it... I still go occasionally, but it has been hard since my grandparents died about 5 years ago! I T thinks it time to re-visit and take some new friends too! I promise you won't be sorry. Good food and love the homemade corn tortillas. this place has been there a long time

Had a party of 14 come in for my son's birthday, we made it at 4pm on Sunday which was perfect because it was after the lunch crowd and they were able to put tables together to accommodate us. They even have a private room for parties and patio seating but there was already a large party there. Staff was attentive and food was excellent. Chicken mole was outstanding. Also tried the pozole, one of the best I've had. They give you chips and salsa, so addicting. My late husband's family has been coming here for decades but we haven't been here in over ten years since we moved. Glad to see that the food is just as good now, even though it's more expensive but I guess that's to be expected nowadays. I would come here just for the homemade tortillas and can't beat their guacamole! The menu says "market price" and I forgot to check my receipt but whatever it costs, it's worth it! read more

This is an update to my review from a couple weeks ago where I submitted on 5/12. I'm giving it a solid 3.5 stars for food/price but rounding up to 4 due to Don's response and friendliness from his son, Zack. Almost immediately after my review, Don the owner contacted me and acknowledged my concern and didn't make any excuses about it other than explaining that they're a family owned business and they're working on the communication related to their promotions. He offered to make good on his promotion so I took him up on it. So I ordered a carne asada and shrimp fajita. I've attached pictures of the two dishes (which I took to go) and the menu. The restaurant is actually bigger on the inside than it looks from the outside. There's also an outdoor patio for additional seating. I couldn't tell for certain but there appears to be additional parking on the other side of the patio off of Pontlavoy Ave. They also have a drive-thru window but it has a closed sign. I picked up my order as scheduled. Each fajita order comes with baked beans, rice, and 3 8" flour or corn tortillas. I opted for flour. For $25.99, it seems a bit on the pricey side for fajitas. But understandably everything has gone up in price these days. On the positive side, the flavor for both was very good. The meat was tasty and not tough. The shrimp was a very good size, plump and fresh. Given everything, I would definitely go back to try some of the other dishes. Thanks again Don and Zack. 5/12 Review: 1 Star. FIRST!!!!! I understand that restaurants are fighting valiantly in trying to get back to where they we're prior to Covid, and in many instances they are succeeding... Restaurants have to review closely on how they are doing daily and weekly and monthly, trying to find their great days and days where customers aren't coming in, once they have discovered this information as well as what plates are doing great and which are no longer doing well, they have to make the necessary changes not only for the food they prepare but for staffing as well, they have to manage wisely in order to make the money necessary to pay their rent, staff wages, and the food costs, and what ever insurance they need, this can not be an easy task. My wife and I have been coming to Marquez since the 1970's, long before we knew each other... SO HERE I GO!!!!!!! Thursday August 17th at approximately 10:10 am my wife and I went to Marquez to order the delicious food we always order, she orders the Chile Verde and I always order the DELICIOUS #3 Cheese enchiladas!!!! (I had surgery on my stomach several years ago, and as things go, my medical issue was somewhat taken care of, BUT it left me with the fact that I NOW have to be VERY careful of the food I eat, BUMBER...) We placed our order with the additional order of their delicious handmade tortillas... We got our food right away and started to eat, I discovered that my enchiladas, the recipe had been changed!!! It was very spicy, which I cannot have, and I did not have my medication with me to take, my wife started picking through her meal only to discover that the meat was carnitas with what seemed like 3 table spoons of the green sauce (look at my previous yelps and you will see how much of the green salsa that is typically used and how much is on the plate.) It also had quite a bit of fat, which my wife truly hates. I continued to eat believing that I could get home in time to take my medication in the hope that it would calm my stomach down. I have NEVER left anything on my plate, but this time I left almost two thirds of the enchiladas as I could feel my stomach reacting to the now spicy sauce. My wife was not having any better time with her meal, so I went to get a tortilla, discovering these were not their handmade tortillas, but were the store bought ones, we asked about the three differences we were not experiencing with the meals and were told that the hand made tortillas were only going to be made on the weekends, and our waitress apologized for the differences we were now experiencing in each of our meals... My wife had tried to eat her meal, but just couldn't go any further, we took the left over portions home, she fed the left over portions to the cats we feed at the park rather than throw away the food. At the writing of this review I point blank asked my wife if we are going back to see if this is a one time thing, and she could not give me a yes or no!!! Maybe they got new cooks and kinda of let them cook the food their way? We were also told that their menu had been updated because they dropped several items. I can't believe that they removed from the menu... TAQUITOS! ( I am assuming that it was not profitable for them to prepare the quantity they prepared only to have to discard the food at the end of the day because not enough customers ordered it). NOW PLEASE UNDERSTAND I AM NOT ANGRY OR COMPLAINING!!! I am simply giving you an understanding of our last experience... I THINK that we are going to go back one more time, but I really don't know, my wife was very disappointed... I know that the owners will read this, so I do ask he following. Please don't say We are sorry. Please don't say give us another chance, and when you do call So you will be taken care of, this doesn't sound good because it tells me only when I call ahead and tell you my wife and I are on our way to eat, that you will directly supervise the preparing of our food so as to insure we are happy customers, your food has to be prepared as it was in the past, delicious for everyone who comes to your establishment every day no matter what. read more

Went there this morning with my family. I have to say it was mediocre at best. The menudo which is $19.99 per plate was tasteless. The only good thing gong for the dish was the hominy which didn't look or taste like canned- like most other restaurants in the area. The place was dirty I even saw some bird or rat poop on the wall right below the TV. I looked up and saw it towards the end of the meal otherwise we would have walked out ASAP. We've been coming to Marquez for years and have seen the many changes it has gone through over the last few years with its remodeling and staff. Our last visit was several months ago. The waitress was fairly new and friendly. But not really on top of bringing out drinks and food in a timely manner. Service was extremely slow and it wasn't busy with customers. After being seated and waiting for a while, we had to ask for drinks and if we could have some chips and salsa. The chips were brought out in a really small bowl. After we finished those and our meal came we asked if we could have more chips. Our entrees were a little cold but the food was decent. Now it's time to pay the bill. I went up to the register and was quite surprised to see that we were charged for both orders of chips and salsa when this has always been complimentary. I didn't argue it and my family and I laughed about it. But we certainly have not been back. read more
