Venturing out to new places and new neighborhoods is always adventuresome! I have seen El Mejor and had to stop by for some grub, I think this place is pretty authentic in that the food is not too bland and also not too overpowering with salt or fat. I came in 10 mins before closing, unaware the staff was wrapping things up for the day and the lady maybe owner was nice enough to make my order!I ordered a pollo asado burrito and the tortilla was nice and warm, the meat was nice and tender and not so charred or overcooked just right. I got some green sauce and added a little of that green salsa flavor and kick to the meat. I'll be back. Enso forever! Menudo 7 days a week. Kind of steep for a burrito, worth it. I've been coming for years -used to be the best menudo. you can't add slimy tripe with honeycomb it changes the flavor & it taste bad. broth was tasteless & hardly any honeycomb. I will have to go & get chili powder & hominy to get it to taste somewhat decent. sorry won't be going back. read more

I really enjoy the Pozole here. It is perfect especially during cold winter days when you are looking for soup options. You can select from two different soup sizes depending on how hungry you are. The orange sunset color of the broth is flavorful and not as spicy as it appears, the hominy is chewy and tender, and the pork is fork-tender and really tasty. It comes with accompaniments such as diced onions, shredded cabbage, hot sauce, a lemon wedge, and your choice of flour/corn tortillas or chips, for you to complete your soup experience however you want. The Menudo is very delicious as well. The beef trip in the Menudo is gelatinous, tender and clean tasting, sure to satisfy your cravings and warm you up at any time. The carne asada and barbacoa tacos I were very small and tasted just aight for me. There are plenty of other places in the area with better tasting tacos. Came here February 27, 2022. Friendly and fast. Menudo was good! Offered in two sizes, medium and large. Seating was for a few small tables. Light on the condiments. It is served with hominy, ( which I prefer). Locals seem to love it. A must try if you haven't yet. read more

Went here on the recommendation from a friend for burritos. She said it was pretty good. I thought the service was decent but the burrito was alright. It wasn't anything special. I got carnitas and it tasted fine. The tortilla tasted quite burned to me so that wasn't pleasant. For the price I paid, I thought it was too expensive. I paid roughly $10 for a burrito that I could have gotten for $7 in some places but better. It's fine if you don't really have any other options but hopefully, I'll have a better experience next time. If I'm feeling up to it, I might give them another chance, maybe try their menudo? read more

This place is great. Small establishment; a few seats to sit inside but it's a great take out. Their pozole and menudo is the best I've ever had in San Jose. Their breakfast burritos with carnitas is awesome. This place is a staple in San Jose seven trees area; the service is great. They have different hours of the week and closed on Mondays. It's been a while since I have been here. Probably going to change that! This time I bought two large menudo orders to go. The amount given was perfect for a guy my size. I would say approximately 32 ounces. Perfect balance of tripe and hominy. Also a piece of the pigs foot. Yum. I ordered flour tortillas. The sides of onions, cilantro, oregano, two lemon slices and chili flake and salsa. When I got home, I opened the container and the garlic, chili menudo aroma was very appealing. After I added to my personal bowl, I heated a little in the microwave because I like my menudo very hot. I added my side toppings to my liking and man was did it taste good. Also, I was glad to see they were practicing social distancing and wearing masks during this pandemic. I also read some negative reviews from a few years ago. Those reviews were probably from the prior owner. Not sure but it just seems to me that those descriptions are far from my experience here. You be the judge. Next time, I will add some photos. I miss the previous owner and his rotating supply of boyfriends working the register with his mom cooking in the back, but I will happily report the food is the same. I am a fundamentalist. I don't make it a point to buy menudo and if a taqueria is in a sketchy neighborhood, only has 3 tables inside and charges for refills I'll consider it a sure thing for a burrito. This place has never let me down. My 13 year old daughter/future lawyer/master arguer, super picky tween and I always share the chicken super burrito and we love it equally. Today her BFF got a plain' little quesadilla de harina. I've never wanted to pick in someone else's food so badly, but I'm afraid between that and my dancing while driving, I had to spare future lawyer the embarassment. The Best Menudo in San Jose, always busy people eating there or people picking up orders to go.

This is now on rotation for eateries with my boyfriend. Since my first review I've had the chili relleno plate as well having it in a super burrito. The egg batter is crisp and airy, the poblano pepper is soft and filled with delicious cheese and covered in green sauce which tastes homemade! The tomatillos really come through in the sauce which cuts the greasiness of the chili relleno perfectly. Can't tell if I love it as a plate or in a burrito more but if you haven't had this specialty I say please do try it! I love supporting small business such as this and I do believe what better way by doing that then helping yourself to a hearty meal with your family here? This place has been around for over 25 years!! n I know b/c I was in this area for about 15 years..Our neighbor' use to work here as a cook the entire time, nice lady, I haven't seen her for a few years so I think her time was up there. my sister and brothers and i USED to always walk to 7-11 and I always bought slurpees and Shock tarts and sneak them in for my friends while i was in 6th grade.. Good times!!!!! I started eating here, thanks to my sister. she always had their tostada here, I order their bean and cheese tostada, NO tomatoes. they are the BEST!!! WITH their red sauce. the tostada is perfectly crisp, their bean is on point. their cheese is super soft. IT's just delicious!!!!!!! i Moved to to L.A but I miss this place terribly. I came here during my spring break for a week and ate here 3x. a bit excessive but there's nothing like this in L.A that i know of yet. they charge extra for everything.. so I suggest you ask when you get the food, sometimes they don't charge then. its best dining in cause you can use as much sauce as you please. they give you a couple squirt bottles. but when you order TO-Go they are super sheisty on their sauces. Although they never used to be, the guy at the front has changed.. the older gentlemen is no longer there so this new guy (possibly new manager/owner) is super sheisty. read more

Not a fan. Went with an open mind to try this place out but was really disappointed. I walked in and nobody was there I called out hello and just heard an echo of my voice. Finally someone came out to take my order but I felt like I was annoying her by being a patron there, sorry for wanting to try your comida, sorry for living and breathing. After my order just heard crickets no indication as to when it would be ready so I sat and sat until it was finally ready. The pozole here is not very good. Broth is watery and doesn't have much flavor and only got two pieces of meat in my medium order of soup and one was mostly grizzle. For a medium order of pozole how do I get only a meager amount of meat, maybe for a small order but that wasn't an option. Was glad they included tortillas with the order until I tasted them. $10.95 for a bowl of _microwaved_ menudo. To top it off, the bowl (which was size 'large') wasn't huge, and it didn't even have that much tripe in it...most of it was hominy. Really I can't get over that. Most expensive bowl of menudo ever and it was microwaved. And store-bought tortillas too, which I wouldn't mind so much if it wasn't so damn expensive!
