Seeing as how I just don't come across pupusas often, I just had to swing on by and try it. Once inside, I thought the place was closed. Not a single customer was inside and I thought to myself, that's probably not a good sign. Yet, despite my trepidation I still ordered up 2 pupusas. I mean, how's a guy gonna pass up on some pupusa? I'm glad that I did. The pupusas, while not the best I've ever had, were still very good. Served with the typical pickled vegetables and salsa accompaniment, they were the perfect afternoon snack. Above and beyond the food, I will say that the owner of this bakery is really nice and just great. He seemed very enthusiastic to have us there to try their food and welcomed us to come back in the evening as they were going to be making tacos, which they apparently do on a regular basis. I've yet to be back but I definitely do intend to go back for some more pupusas the next time I'm in the area. I LOVE El Panke. It's your friendly, neighborhood/Mexican bakery with super low prices and lots of family-owned charm/TLC. I come here 3-4 times a week because Martin makes me custom-extracted juices (or jugos to be more legit) with fresh fruits and vegetables. The prices are so low, it's obscene. Whole foods charges $7-8 for the same thing, and here they charge less than $5! I like to call ahead so that my juice is ready for me by the time I get there. They've even purchased special fruits and veggies at my request! I just got around to trying the Torta Milanesa (a mexican style sandwich with beef that's been marinated, pounded thin, and lightly fried, lots of fresh veggies, and amazingly fresh bread). OMG, I DIE over their sandwich! It is so different from the usual, the bread is SO fresh, and it's less than $5 for a huge sandwich. LOVE and will probably eat this forever until I die. I was craving a breakfast burrito the other morning and decided to check yelp for a place to satisfy my craving. I saw this bakery had 4 stars and comments of how their breakfast burritos were really good and not greasy so I chose this place. I am SOO disappointed in those fellow yelpers! I can't believe I cheated on my diet for this little unflavorful bacon burrito. First off, this place is tiny and very messy looking n disorganized on the inside. I asked the guy if they had breakfast burritos and he asked if I wanted bacon or ham. He said it included eggs and potatoes. I asked for a bacon one and said just easy on the potatoes. He said they were pre-made. I should've walked out right then but I didn't wanna be rude. He prob saw the indifferent expression on my face and said, "we just barely made them." So I said ok. I see him walk back to the kitchen area and pull out a metal tray containing a bunch of wrapped burritos. He hands it to me just as is and didn't say anything. Ok... Am I supposed to guess the price?? After a long awkward pause he says "$4". For that tiny thing?? Anyway, I gave him the money and walked out with the wrapped thing. No bag. No napkins. That was it. Prior to walking out, I scanned the place for napkins but didn't see any, just a container containing plastic knives -odd- so I left since there was another person talking to him. When I got in my car, I unwrapped the burrito and saw how dry it looked so I walked back into the store to ask for salsa. A female was there and after I told her what I wanted, she walked in the back. Another guy walks up and says, "what do you want?" And I said Salsa? And he kind of huffs and walks to the back poking around boxes and shaking his head says "Chinita". Really!?? You don't think I can see, hear AND understand that?? Rude. So then the first guy who took my order looks at me from the back and says, "what did you need?" I said "you guys don't have salsa to go with the burrito??" And then he said, oh he'll get it for you. So the rude guy hands me a little salsa container and I ask him what is "Chinita". And he shrugs his shoulders and says rudely, "I don't know. I didn't say". Ugh. Rude people. Anyway, the Breakfast burrito was very plain and tiny. I can't believe a yelper said it was filling! I'm 118 pounds and that didn't even wet my appetite! All the baked goods are smaller than any other Hispanic bakery that I have ever visited. The taste of the items was disappointing. I am a big fan of empanada cremas, but there version was just so so. I came here because I saw that they sell pupusas. When I walked in there was a man in the back, he looked and saw me but failed to acknowledge me. He took 5 extra minutes while I was standing there then came and asked what I wanted. When I asked for some pupusas he informed me that their menu is wrong and that they now only sell tacos and quesadillas. I drove all the way to find out they only sell two items. really nice family owned bakery. Didn't have any of the baked goods, but ordered the breakfast burritos! They're only 3 bucks each and they pretty filling. I could only finish half of mine at the time. They're standard breakfast burrito (eggs, hashbrowns, cheese, bacon) but they don't skimp out and are pretty tasty :) read more
