The food in the buffet was horrible. Everything was cold. Will not go back. Do not recommend it.

If you are looking for Americanized Mexican food, El Torito is good. Their Mexican Ceasar Salad is very yummy and you can get a big version by adding Chicken. My husband likes their shrimp dishes. Fajitas are served sizzing and are good too. The Salsa is generally good, but depending on the peppers they are using, it can be real hot. Margaritas come in lots of flavors, but my favorite is the traditional frozen Lime with salt. read more

As usual, one star because we HAVE to put one star as minimum. But we went there on Friday night, my wife and her parents. Beginning was ok but the server didn't offer refill on chips and salsa. We had to ask like twice to get some more. Finally we ordered our food and it took a good 20-25 min to get it. The server didn't come back to check on us till 10 min later. My wife ended up getting something she didn't order, which was a jalapeño sweet sauce. We asked to get it and she never brought it. The in-laws ordered a skillet. It was more of an onion skillet with a side of meat. No meat at all. They had onion tacos instead. The server never brought us refills on our soft drinks. Not once. She took forever to come bring us the check. All in all we didn't tip her. I know she was busy but she needs to keep track of her tables. This place used to serve more food. For starters, No wait list and told it would be 20 minutes wait. Plenty of open tables. Took server 10 minutes to arrive. No place settings, had to ask twice. Cleanliness is suspect... under the table, had used napkins and cutlery. Big problem with gnats or small flies. Had to move to another table and still had the problem. No refills on chips and salsa or drinks. Food was mediocre at best. Enchilada was like eating a solid piece of cheese wrapped inside a tortilla. The food is hit or miss. If it's fresh and hot it's decent but if its been sitting around it's not good at all. Everyone is typically friendly and service is good. If your looking to eat quickly and get out quick between meetings it's great. read more

The food was outstanding!! I haven't been to an El Torito in years, but I don't ever remember one being THIS good! My teenage son was with me, and he was pleasantly surprised as well. I had the beef enchiladas and he had a beef burrito that were both off the hook! Tender, juicy and very tasty. The only reason I didn't rate this a 5 star is because of the delay with drinks. We were seated quickly with our menus, and then we were brought some chips & salsa (excellent as well), but nothing to drink! Didn't take an order for drinks, didn't offer water, didn't bring water - nothing!! The service was good, but slow. The food & drinks (once ordered) came quick enough; the check, not so much. I came here about 3 months ago after hearing about the lunchtime buffet from a coworker. $10 without a drink. They have a good selection including chile colorado, chile verde, a chicken dish, refried beans, spanish rice, tortilla soup, homemade tortillas with a choice of three fillings - steak, carnitas, and chicken along with various condiments. The person making the tortillas was making them as they were being requested which made for a long line and a long wait. I actually went the whole meal without getting a tortilla. This was the main reason that I was reluctant to revisit this restaurant. I did revisit them though, this time however, the person making the tortillas was making them ahead of time which was no problem as they went quickly and were still fresh and warm. I did get a stomach ache and didn't feel quite right after eating here. Coincidence, maybe. Overall the food is okay, good selection, good service ....but the stomach ache probably will keep me away. It's worth a try if you are craving Mexican food. read more

Worst freaken service ever! The girls taking the reservations when you walk in SUCK! (Hostess) are very disrespectful. This place was so unorganized that they didn't have a clue what was going on. I wouldn't even give this place one star but it's the only way you can leave a comment. They need to shut this place down as well. Great food, good lunch, desert bar is there weakest link but there salad bar makes up for it. and even though I had not had the best experience with all the servers in the past, I have had a lot of great experiences. Shout out to Chon who is the best server there I asked to be served by him specifically because his attention to detail and friendly demeanor. My friends & I went to El Torito for happy hour Friday evening - never been before. Thought it would be like Chevy's, and like their happy hour, which is fantastic. El Torito Milpitas is definitely the ghetto dump version of Chevy's. Service was atrocious, slow, and unresponsive(we asked for water several times, waitress never brought it!), even though the restaurant hardly had any customers for a Friday evening.The waitress barely spoke english and had trouble taking our simple order. She got one of my friends the wrong drink twice. The food, drinks, and prices have nothing on Chevy's. Dont waste your time going to this dump - make the extra commute and hit up Chevy's - anywhere. Its well worth it - a thousand times better service, and way way better happy hour prices & food. I'll never go back to El Torito Milpitas, aka dump, again. read more

The food is ok -- not as good as some, but not terrible. But I do have one complaint, and this has happened twice. The music has been unbearably LOUD. We asked them to turn it down, which they do for awhile. Then it's back up again. Why does it have to be so loud and throbbing in the dining area? Usually we go to the El Torito in Monterey or San Leandro where you can get a window seat and view the water. So this was slightly different. We arrived about 8pm on a Saturday and it was very empty. They sat us down right away. Our server was very nice and helpful. I got the chicken street tacos, which weren't too bad. I was a little sad that they didn't include some lime with it. My hubby got the Sizzling Enchiladas, but didn't realize it came with green sauce instead of red. But the server was nice enough to bring him a small bowl of the red sauce to put on top. read more

Came in with my guy to enjoy lunch on a Saturday afternoon. We were greeted by the manager who informed us that a conference had just let out and they were busy finishing up from the unexpected crowd. We were cool with that and were seated. The manager (I really wish I got her name because she was pretty much the only positive thing about this experience) got our food and drink orders. About 10 minutes later we receive our drinks. Cool. We're busy talking and snacking on chips and salsa for a while when we realize it's been well over 40 minutes since we ordered. In that time, we both finished our drinks and we're waiting to order more then decided against it because of the wait and the fact that no one seemed to notice us. A little while later our food comes out and we meet our actual waiter for the first time. The manager accompanies him and thanks us for our patience and offers to cover the price of our food. We'd only be responsible for drinks. Cool. We're understanding of the delay and proceed to enjoy our meal, which by the way, was just ok. My sour cream enchiladas were decent, my boyfriends 1800 fajitas platter was over cooked, but since it was free and we were starving at that point, we made no complaint. While eating my boyfriend had to flag down the waiter to get a side of salsa. When he asked about salsa, the waiters reply was "salsa? What about it?"... Definitely rubbed me the wrong way. Again, after waiting another long wait to get the check, we had to flag down the manager. She was apologetic and informed us that she would cover our drinks too since our wait again exceeded reasonable. We thanked her and left, only to be met in the parking lot by our waiter who informed us that we had not paid our bill. We reiterated what the manager told us and began to walk back into the restaurant to ensure that we were not mistaken for walking out on our bill. The only time we seemed to get the waiters attention was when he thought we walked out in our bill. Crazy that we didn't seem to exist before that. Because of the manager, I gave one star, she definitely practiced good business and was best thing about our experience. I'm doubtful I'd ever return though. read more

Been going to El Torito since the late 80's. Its quality of food and service has fluctuated over the years. As of today it's not as good as previous times, but that might be due to a few changes of ownership. I still very much enjoy coming here or even having it delivered. read more

Ordered the side guacamole. Wow was that terrible. Avocados were brown and sour. For dinner we ordered the chicken fajitas. Veggies were burnt and barely any chicken. Waiter didn't even give us a plate to eat from. Wow, save your self the trouble. read more

We've been coming here for a few years, and came by recently for dinner (mistake). They have changed the menu so now the main favorites are gone, and the prices have gone up as well. The food is just okay now, not as good as it used to be. One other thing to note is that they're using tapered glasses now, so the Cadillac margs are smaller for the same price. I signed up for the el torito email club so I got a coupon for FREE table side guacamole (8.99 value). Yeah man, it was off the hook. I ordered sinaloa shreded beef quesadillas, It came with rice (not fully cooked) , refried beans and chipotle crema ($8.99). My friend tried the rolled taco sampler 2 veggie, 2 chicken, 2 shreded beef also came with frijoles de la olla and rice ($9.99). 2 dirnk 1 coke and 1 iced tea. The food was good, it could have been spicier but that's my taste. Good service, good food, free guac we were there for 1 hour and a half it was bomb diggity. Corn cake was so good, good atmosphere. There was no rush we sat and talked and celebrated in all its Mexican glory. I love my old school rancheras, I even sang a song.
