I went in today to celebrate Valentine's Day with my boyfriend and had the worst experience. Our waitress Samantha was rude and unprofessional and made the whole sitting uncomfortable. We placed our order and noticed that everyone in the room had been served before us and it had been over half an hour since we put in our drinks and food. She finally brought our appetizer and I asked if they were still going to bring my drink and she admitted she never put it in. I told her that it was fine and I didn't want it anymore because at this point I was frustrated and the food was already coming. She demanded I tell her what the drink was and I kept saying it's fine and she forced me to tell her anyways "just so she could know." It felt like we were arguing when I just wanted to move past the fact of her forgetting it. She still never brought it or offered to bring it complimentary. Not sure why she needed to know what it was if she had no intention to make the situation right. While we waited for our food she comes by and only brought my boyfriend a new water even though both of ours were empty. While we were eating she asked if we were enjoying everything and I asked if I could also have some water .. and she made it feel like it was an inconvenience and made a weird comment "oh okay". Be prepared for looping, finding street or doing valet) We sat at the bar and the barman was super quick and great at making our margaritas. I got a skinny while my boyfriend got a blueberry. While we waited for the platter to arrive, the barman gave us some warm chips and medium and hot salsa. So good! As far as the platter goes, it's a great size for two people. The quesadilla could have done with a bit more meat, the taquitos were flavourful and the buffalo wings were also a hit however could have been a little less vinegary on the sauce. I've learned to be patient because there is usually only 1 bartender taking care of the whole bar and bar area, so I try to give grace... But this man has it all under control. When the check arrived I was surprised the birthday flan was at cost ( not usually the case) and found the kids meals had been added ,she did not inform us this did not apply to the special entree' nor did she serve the kids ice cream dessert. It's been over seven years since my last El Torito ,Toluca Lake (now closed), visit and I'm glad I decided to come to the one in Sherman Oaks. I made a reservation at 6:00 pm, for two, through Open Table. When I walked in I was promptly greeted and seated by Pablo. I explained that I my 2nd guest was arriving shortly - and he said no problem I'll get you chips and salsa while you wait. Our server, Marlon, waited on us and provided the drinks, chips & salsa and took our order. Our dinner was served promptly, 15 minutes, after our order was taken. My sizzling enchiladas were delicious - highly recommended by Marlon. Throughout our dinner, we were approached by Pablo and asked if we needed anything else, and if the food was to our satisfaction - which it was. Had an amazing experience this week at El Torito for our Magical team of 20 at a teambuilding outing after mini golf at nearby Sherman Oaks Castle Park. Happy hour on Taco Tuesday was exactly what we were looking for: casual fun with great food and vibe, pro staff and great deals on tacos and cocktails, even options like sizzling veggie fajitas for our vegan eaters. It couldn't have been easier - just made a simple large group reservation and came in under budget without going to the trouble of arranging a private event (though they do that here too). I can't thank manager Pablo enough for working with me to accommodate our group. Shout out to our top notch server Adriana who efficiently managed our group's orders, advised on which dishes were truly vegan, got the orders perfect and to us quickly. The food was absolutely awful absolutely awful and cold for one. The have a nice eggs that they serve are cold in the middle. Everything is cold. Nothing is really actually warm. The steak taquitos are drier than a bone. No flavor. They can't cook eggs right I asked for over medium he gave me fried eggs and runny in the middle, absolutely awful! My family and I have been coming here for years. It's hard to sustain and maintain quality service. The attention and service here is always too notch. From the host , to the waiters/waitresses, bartenders and managers is always great. Now I bring my kids here and they love the revive and quality of food, especially Sunday brunch. This might be the best kept secret in Sherman Oaks. We decided to come in for national taco day, where you get a free taco with any purchase after 3 pm. It was also happy hour, so I ordered a margarita and flautas off the happy hour menu (only available in the cantina, which is a bit loud). For the tacos, you get a ticket and then go to the taco bar in the back to pick your meat and fillings, and get beans and corn on the side! Everything was pretty tasty, and the price could not be beat. Even if we didn't get the two free tacos, it would only be $3 more per taco on Tuesdays. We will definitely be back. read more
