We had dinner there on 8/8/23 and had several things happen that were not a great experience. 1) the noise level was so much that we had to practically yell across the table to hear each other. Even our server misunderstood what we were saying a few times because I'm sure she couldn't hear us. 2) it took a very long time to get our order so our server brought more salsa which was bubbly looking and didn't taste good. 3) when we got our order my Mexican Cesar salad had no dressing. When the server went to the kitchen to get dressing there was only ranch which is not something I can eat. Why wouldn't the kitchen communicate the fact they didn't have all the ingredients? Our other order of the throwback combo was had a very dry piece of what was supposed to be chicken Milanese. Edges were practically burned. 3) we also received napkins at our table that had writing on one of them. I should have taken a photo. This is not sanitary! The only reason I am giving them 2 stars is the manager removed the salad from our bill and offered to prepare something else for me but it was so late already and we had been there over an hour. She did bring me a bowl of soup which was okay. I've always loved this place and never had issues like this before. I'm hoping this was just an exception and not a trend. read more

The Sunday brunch here used to be outstanding!! Now there's no more self service which I understand... However, the food is minimal now there's about half of what are used to offer before and the price is gone up by at least $15 per person. They are quite understaffed, soo about20+ minute to wait between mimosas. It's Father's Day and the line to get your food at the buffet was quite a wait and by the time we got the food back to the table- it was cold. I wanted to take the time to thank the staff at El Torito in Sherman Oaks. I know staff is always busy, yet they take the time to make us feel welcome. This extra special when we walk in with three kids, including a 2 year old and this could be difficult. The service you give and the flavor of your food is always the best. One thing I do have to mention is that I believe staff will be a reflection of their administration and Pablo, the manager at this location, makes the customer feel that their opinion matters and makes sure that everything is running well. Excellent service, tasty food and awesome atmosphere. I was a little skeptic to go out during these times but El Torito's came through. Not only were they safe and clean according to CDC regulations but they made the environment feel so romantic and warming like i was sitting in a Hacienda in Spain. One special employee made the lunch beyond perfect. Our waitress Gaby R. greeted right as we walked in the restaurant as she was multi-tasking but she still was not too busy to recognize my friend and I. Then moments later she came to our restaurant with a beautiful smile and took our order. All through out the time we were there, our chips and salsa was always filled. She even accommodated my friend who cannot tolerate spicy salsa (even though she is Puerto Rican) when other Latinas give her a hard time. I actually made plans to go back in 2 days. Came her on Valentine's day for the 3-course sweetheart deal. I wasn't sure if it was legit since I had seen it online and it was not on a menu. When I asked the waitress about it, she was rude for the entire service. 2 days later I ordered take out with a gift card. I wanted to pay the difference with apply pay. Their apple pay machine was "down". I skateboarded there and had left my wallet at home. By the time I went back to get it the food would be cold. Manager tells me he could input my card details manually if I had a picture of it (why would I have a picture of it?) any way I memorize my card numbers and cvc code so he says I have the numbers he'll put it in. He inputs it and it goes through/processed. THEN he asks for my ID AFTER it went through, saying I could have just given him random numbers. WHAT? Because if I was trying to use another person's credit card for $8, my first form of payment would have been apple pay on my phone? Not my fault your machine was down. read more

They have GREAT margaritas, some of the best chips and salsa however there food is sooo horrible. Knowing this already, a lot of the more authentic places close earlier so I took a client a there who really wanted to eat and have a margarita and the much better food options closed by 8pm on weekdays. I told him don't order too much but obviously we need to eat so he ordered a full plate and he agreed how bad the food was. I ordered a taco thinking I was safe to not order more but even the taco was bad enough that I almost didn't eat it despite how hungry I was. The meat is OBVIOUSLY an industrial supplier of low quality meats. I have now promised my self to never eat there again. We love El Torito in Sherman Oaks! When we lived in Sherman Oaks, we used to come for Sunday Brunch every weekend! Now, even though we live further out, we still like to come to El Torito in Sherman Oaks. Besides the delicious food and drinks, the service is what makes this location the best. We specifically sit at the bar for Brunch because of the bartender, Rudy. He is funny, attentive, kind, and professional. He always gives us excellent service and makes our visits extra fun! The manager Veronica is also friendly and attentive. She always makes sure we are well taken care of and enjoying no our dining experience. And we can not forget Pablo, one of the servers who has also gone out of his way several times to make sure our family (including 3 young children) have everything we need for a delicious and wonderful experience! There was one server in the area and we saw him working, but that also meant it took a little longer to clear the plates and get drinks. But as he was hustling, that did not bother us. We ate here last week service was poor and food not up to its standards. We waited close to 20 min for water after ordering drinks server did not come back for over 10 min to take our order. We ordered a Mexican Ceasars with our combo and it came out much later than our meal which took almost an hour to come out at that point i really did not want it any longer and was charged full price even though itvwas an add on. We ordered a second round of drinks during happy hour which never came out after 30 min the waitress asked if we still wanted our drinks and sid it would not be the happy hour price even though we ordered 15 min before the end of happy hour, she must have forgotten to place the order. Our steak fajitas came out well done and hard and chewy even though we ordered it medium. I think the food was sitting for a while.
