We spent our Valentine's Day evening at El Torito because we signed up for a Paint Nite experience together. Beforehand we decided to eat there and what a disappointment. We arrived and sat in the bar and enjoyed our drinks and service. What are really disappointing was our food. We when with their special for 2 with included for each a choice of soup or salad along with an entree from a several choices and finished with a desert to share. We both stared with the tortilla soup which had more potatoes in it than any other item. I do not believe I have had tortilla soup with potatoes in it not to mention so many. My wife went with the mondo combo which came with 4 items. She stated the meat in her crispy taco was more fat than meat and overall the items were rather bland for a Mexican dish. I chose the steak and shrimp fajitas. Unfortunately the majority of the steak was not edible since it was so incredibly tough. The fajita vegetable consisted of onions, green peppers, and my friend from earlier...potatoes. There were 3 strips of peppers along with some onions but again potatoes seem to take center stage. It seems like for cost savings they like to add potatoes to their dishes instead of other more traditional vegetables. We finished with the chocolate volcano lava cake which was too luke warm for my taste. I normally have it much hotter than what we had. Not a winner in food quality and I don't think we'll be back. read more

Here again for drinks and brunch. Go for the El Dueño Margarita with an extra shot of tequila on the side And anything on the ( and I mean anything) on the menu. He bar area is the best place to sit. I hate kids so it works for since kids aren't allowed yet sometimes the little freaks are in here for some odd reason. Anyways the music is good the tv's have sports on and most of the employees are cool. For the money you can't go wrong. I'll be back!!!! Ask for Julio (waiter) he's got jokes and has a personality. I love cooking thanksgiving dinner , but as a tradition before the dinner the hubby and I like to grab a few drinks and food before the chaos of hosting . El torito sherman oaks has always been a staple for us . We love coming here for Sunday brunch (teenage kids , means lots of hungry bellies ) so we were pleasantly surprised that they had a thanksgiving mimosa brunch !! I actually love this El Torito and have always had a good experience. It's definitely "Americanized" but always good. If I want a more authentic meal, there are a couple of place in the barrio that are to die for. However....the other day I had a lousy experience. Really lousy. Maybe they are understaffed but I literally stood there for 20 minutes trying to place a to go order. As the gal was finishing up with someone and I was next in line, some people came in and she asked if I minded if she sat them first. I said go ahead. When she was done more people came in and she sat them before taking my order and after the third time I gave up and went somewhere else. She was overwhelmed and so not the person they should have had doing her job. She should have had them wait and taken my order. As I was telling her I was leaving and this was the part that really annoyed me, instead of taking my order, she went on to seat more people. Never got her name but I was there Saturday June 24th at about 5:30 pm. Won't be going back for quite a while now. Hardly the only game in town. read more

I'm guessing they were short staffed because every time someone walked in she said " give me a minute to seat them". Never got my order taken. Left and went somewhere else. So annoyed. Not sure what her name was but I was there Saturday June 24th at about 5 pm. Called in an order for 2 Pitchers of Margaritas on Cindo De Mayo around 8pm, we were supposed to receive the order by 8:43 and it wasn't delivered until after 10pm. I tried calling the driver several times and El Toritos with no response, called at least 5xs to El Toritos. I finally replied to the text I received and the driver called staying he was waiting at the restaurant and they were packed. He was able to get someone on the phone so I could try to cancel, when I spoke to the girl she explained they were very busy but was surprised my order was only for Margaritas and said she would fill the order right away. Once we received the order the drinks were not cold and tasted like lemonade! First and last time using this service!!! By the way $25.00 for each container that was supposed two be a pitcher. Adan and the manager were super attentive on a busy day! Took less than five minutes to get a table even tho they were packed. My mimosa was never empty and I couldn't even finish my plate. Tonight, I went to dinner with my boyfriend and we had the WORST service EVER! Our waitress was not friendly at all. No smile, no personality. No greetings. I've been to so many restaurants that the waiters give customers water while waiting to order their foods but omg this place was a BIG JOKE!! Especially my waitress didnt even come back to our table to see if we need a refill of our drinks nor if the food is okay for us. I didn't want to give tip cuz I hated the customer service but my boyfriend gave tip for the waiter. I'm not giving tips for food places that the waiters aren't gonna DO THEIR JOBS!! THIS PLACE CHARGES YOU 3% SO YOU CAN PAY FOR THEIR EMPLOYEES. Dumbest company decision ever made. It's a surcharge they add onto your bill because California decided its okay for restaurants to charge YOU so they can pay their employees.. I asked for this removed because I refuse to pay it. Why should I pay for a decision a company makes? Totally not fair. The manager explained it to us and took it off. I didn't get his name but he was SUPER NICE. I mean....super nice!!! He was awesome. I'd give him and the waiter Allan 10 stars if I could but unfortunately I will never come back here again. The steak sucked. I ordered the Cheese Enchilada and the Steak. The steak was so rubbery I kept chewing it and spitting it out. We ordered steak fajitas delivered. The delivery person was prompt and very friendly. The amount of food was impressive and more than enough for our party of four. The food was exceptional. The fajitas were cooked perfectly and each side dish was piping hot and delicious. We were so pleased with this experience.
