I had never tried Turkish food before coming to El Turco and all I can say is I'm a fan! My friend and I ordered the Baba Ganoush and Turco Salad to start, which were both delicious. We also ordered the Manti dumplings, which was my favorite dish of the night - so flavorful and different from any dumplings I'd ever tasted. The Lahmacun is a paper thin flatbread with lamb and beef on top - highly recommend this dish as well. The Kavurma was good, but when I go back I'd probably try the beef & chickpeas stew instead. This is one of the best places in upper buena vista, one of the main reasons you visit. I made a reservation and we were immediately sat by the host. He was friendly. Our server was very friendly as well. I liked how there were a alot of options for sitting... inside, outside. I started with a Turkish coffee, small but is very strong and good. You need to start with the platter of spreads. IT came with 5 different spreads-- hummus, a beet dip, and my favorite was this spicy eggplant one. IT comes with warm pita and pickled veggies. Another must is the manti.... small bite sized Turkish dumplings packed with ground beef. We also got the fries that come with ketchup and a zangy mayo dip. Lastly we got a lamb kabob. All delicious. We had such a great dinner on a Thursday night. Service was a teeny tiny bit on the slower side considering they weren't packed and it was earlier in the evening but nothing egregious and our servers were very congenial. The food was fantastic. We had the shishito peppers to start and we each got a protein bowl and shared the knufeh. They honestly give you such a large portion you could share it but the food was so good I ate almost the entire thing by myself. I usual favor baklava but I'm so glad I tried the knufeh, the flavors and texture were outstanding and complimented nicely by the Turkish ice cream. We also had a very nice bottle of Sancerre which I am now on the hunt for. The only downside with the seating is that it's all outside and it being summer, I wish there was something they could do about the bugs. We had such a great experience at El Turco for Thanksgiving. It ended up being the perfect non-traditional holiday meal. The food was excellent from start to finish, and the setting is absolutely beautiful. Upper Buena Vista has this super lush, tropical garden vibe that makes you feel like you've escaped into a little jungle oasis right in the city. The Lahmacun was great, but the standout for me was the El Turco Salad. Everything was incredibly fresh and bright. The Vegetarian Bowl was another highlight because it gave us a taste of so many different flavors and textures. The Manti were plentiful and comforting, and the Kavurma Braised Beef was fantastic--rich, tender, and even better with the extra yogurt they brought out for us. Beyond the food, the service really made the experience even better. This was DELICIOUS everything on here was the best of the best. My favorite by far was the kopoglu, the egg plant. So flavorful. This was an excellent choice to share with others. 5/5 ($24) Manti - Homemade tiny beef stuffed dumplings topped with caramelized tomato sauce, garlicky yogurt, sumac and dry mint. This was interesting and the taste has lingered in my memory weeks beyond me initially trying it. It did seem overpriced for the amount received though but definitely worth a try. 4/5 ($32) I also tried their greek salad with a side of kavurma (braised beef) and WOW, the braised beef was delicious, some of the best I've ever had. Their doner wrap was good and only 20 bucks. Their gyro Lahmacun - Flatbread/pizza topped with lamb This was one of their most popular items and definitely worth a try! 4/5 ($16) My family and I were all blown away by this place. We visited over this weekend and it seemed like half the restaurant was shut down. There wasn't a host so we just stood there until I found an employee that I could ask about where we could sit. You have to use a QR code to order which feels a bit impersonal especially since it's Turkish restaurant and would have been nice to hear a little more about the menu. I saw on their menu there was a drink similar to a lychee martini but it had kiwi in it which I'm allergic to so I asked if I could have just a plain lychee martini and the server first said they didn't have lychee. I showed him the drink I was referring to so he decided to ask the bartender who refused to make this martini. I ended up picking a dry martini with a twist. We ordered baba ghanoush and the karvurma with rice. The food came out in 5 minutes which makes me feel like there wasn't much thought or preparation for it. Post beach day, I was looking for a refreshing mediterranean bite and my friend recommended to check this spot out so I made my way over and wow was I in heaven! Located inside the upper Buena Vista compound with lovely greenery, trees and natural light making the ambiance so lovely. We ordered the manti dumplings + the braised beef dish + an eggplant dip. All the dishes were extremely authentic, tasted exactly like the food I'd eat in Istanbul honestly! We also ordered some vino from Cappadocia and I was absolutely obsessed!! They have indoor and outdoor seatings. We started off with a beef protein bowl, it was so delicious and flavorful. Next we had the lamb casserole also very good. We had the goat milk ice cream that was very creamy and so yummy. The service was ok, I took a star off because the waiter just took our order then never returned. Another reason for taking a star was that they didn't serve liquor. They do serve wine but certain wines you can only buy the bottle. Having a Michelin star, you expect a certain level of quality in the kitchen as well as in service, and in this opportunity, I think both were well absent. After seated, it took a while to get a waiter to the table and offer a menu. In this case, a QR code is the only option. We ordered our drinks (I ordered a beer) and a salad to start as well as a lentil soup. The salad arrived but no drinks.... and the soup never arrived. After a good amount of time.... I mean, we almost finished the salad, and I had to remind them to please bring my beer. For mains, we had the vegetarian platter and the kavurma beef, which was supposed to be one of their signature dishes. The beef was bland.... it needed salt and to me.... not a great execution of kavurma. Kavurma beef is supposed to be a stew beef with a rich sauce, and it wasn't. It was more greasy than anything. The vegetarian platter was okay, but nothing was memorable. I would not recommend el Turco for those seeking a great Turkish/Arabic or Mediterranean meal. Our waiter was very attentive and nice. The decorations and the open air concept of the restaurant creates a great vibe. HOWEVER, the fooooodd was disgusting. The appetizers were good, the Manti is a bit tasteless for $32 dollars. We got 2 lamb over rice, and the amount of rice on this dish could feed an entire island, the rice was mushy and tasteless. The mount of lamb they put on the dish was small compared to the mountain of rice that they served. The lamb was tasteless, I don't know if they've ever heard of salt or spices but the lamb over rice was bland and tasteless. My husband had the doner wrap, and the beef was gamy, chewy and tasteless. The food was underwhelming and honestly I don't know how this establishment is still standing. The food is mediocre and over priced. They praise that they have Michelin awards, for so many years in a row, but after tonight, I know why they haven't gotten an actual Michelin star. I would rather spend my money at Mandolin or Motek where I know the food will always be flavorful, creative and delicious. El Turco...cook better, use salt and put love in your cooking. read more

Deeply disappointing -- poor food, poor service, and not worth the price. I went to El Turko with my sister for a birthday lunch expecting a quality experience given the Michelin buzz. Unfortunately, everything about the meal was a letdown. We ordered the lahmacun, a dish we've had many times elsewhere, and it was shockingly bland and lifeless -- it tasted like it had been sitting around rather than made fresh. There was no depth of flavor and nothing about it resembled how this dish is supposed to be prepared. We also shared the vegan bowl with assorted dips, and every component tasted tired and pre-made. The hummus was especially bad -- bland, poorly textured, and honestly less flavorful and less authentic than the hummus you can buy prepackaged at Whole Foods or Publix. That should never be the case at a Turkish/Middle Eastern restaurant charging these prices. To add insult to injury, the pita bread was stale, which is completely unacceptable. Even the basics were mishandled: we each ordered a glass of white wine, and it was served not chilled at all -- essentially room temperature. The service was inattentive and unwelcoming, and the prices were wildly out of line with the quality of both the food and the experience. Nothing about this meal justified the cost or the reputation. This was an extremely disappointing way to celebrate a birthday, and I would not return or recommend this restaurant to anyone. read more
