I'm in Silicon Valley this evening. I'm on Almaden Expy. I've been meaning to do this a long time. It looks modern, classy, and clean in here. I like my Tartare and Carpaccio made with fish. I had an Ahi Tuna Carpaccio. This is a great take on Carpaccio. It uses some ingredients that I'm very familiar with. The Ahi Tuna was fresh. There's so much contrast in flavors. I know what a Beef Wellington is. But who knows what a Salmon Wellington is? This is a genius creation. It consists of Salmon, Spinach, Bell Pepper, and Lemon Beurre Blanc. When I heard Beurre Blanc, I was like oh that sounds French, that sounds luxurious. It takes longer to prepare like 45 minutes, but worth the time. This is between Italian, British, and French cuisine. It looks almost too good to dig in. The Puff Pastry is intricate, delicate, buttery, and crunchy. The Salmon is cooked to perfection. The Asparagus, Zucchini, and other Veggies accompanied the dish well. The Sauce wasn't heavy at all, light, not overpowering, and gives a hint of lemon. Went to Elements Restaurant after work on a Thursday, it was fantastic, everyone is so nice and friendly. Vietnamese / French fusion at a reasonable price. We went all out with a Crispy Soft Shell Crabs w/ Aioli appetizer. It was nice a crispy with some greens on the side. Main dish was a perfectly cooked medium rare Filet Mignon with gravy, mashed potatoes and veggies. My friend had the Duck in a tea sauce, which was really incredible. The two dishes were so different but tasted great. It is a bit out of the way in South San Jose, but it was well worth the drive, the atmosphere was peaceful and relaxing. Service was excellent from the host to the serving staff. The menu has a variety of French and Vietnamese cuisine. There are many dishes on the menu that all sound very delicious and worth ordering. Appetizer, We started with Calamari and it was fried to perfection. What Elevated this for me compared to other places is the fried zucchini. Entree, I always stick to the filet minion because the dish is executed so well. The meat is very tender and flavorful. The sauce is what keeps having me order it over and over again. A hidden gem in San Jose for a classy, elegant dinner - the meal took me off guard as it was in a pretty average looking plaza. We came here for my birthday dinner and it took us a while to choose between a variety of unique dishes. After debating between other items like the asparagus wrapped beef, lemon crusted sea bass, and rack of lamb, we settled on: 1. Vietnamese spider rolls. Crispy soft shell crab in a refreshing summer roll made for a great start to the meal 2. Mixed greens salad. The citrus dressing and goat cheese with walnuts worked for a delicious flavor profile, and tasted better than its more average presentation 3. Salmon Wellington. Perfectly flaky pastry cage outside of a buttery salmon topped with spinach and bell pepper. This dish took 45 min to come out even though we had called earlier - maybe a lack of or miscommunication with the kitchen? Regardless, well worth the wait as it paired beautifully with the beer beurre blanc sauce 4. Tea smoked duck. Smokiness was definitely there and taro was a unique starch base with the protein. Much better than your typical mashed potatoes 5. Bomba for dessert. Presentation was beautiful and although the ice cream itself was average and not too creamy, it made for the best end to the meal with the crunchy chocolate shell I can't wait to come back to try the other dishes. The calamari appetizer was cooked to perfection - tender, nearly melts in your mouth, and a sharp contrast from chewy calamari which is normally served at other restaurants. I ordered the salmon Wellington and it had my tastebuds singing. From the lemon beurre blanc sauce, the moist salmon, and the hearty vegetable medley which is all engulfed by a flaky cage shell, I didn't want the experience to end. I had never heard of Elements Restaurant before, but then again I don't usually venture that far south on Almaden. The person who took me there for dinner lives down that way, and was looking forward to showing me a "hidden gem." I don't know if Elements usually has good signage, but the entire strip-mall was getting a face-lift, so it's hard to tell. As we were looking at the postings by the front door, a lady walked by and offered some unsolicited praise for the restaurant. She gave us her recommendations and was off. The building has really high ceilings which adds to the open-feel of the space. There are white tablecloths, but it feels more casual than dressy. Elements is touted as Vietnamese-Fusion, but the menu also offered burgers & Italian fare; kind of schizophrenic. Maybe they're just trying to cater to the neighborhood palates. Anyway, I took the random lady's advice and ordered the Salmon Wellington (Wild salmon, baby spinach, sauteed mushrooms & Maui onion, wrapped in Puff pastry and served with a beurre blanc). My friend ordered the Fillet Mignon w/Mushrooms & Cabernet Reduction. My Wellington was good, but it didn't make me swoon. The salmon was cooked much more than I like, and the beurre blanc needed some salt. My companion absolutely loved his entree! The meat was fork-tender, and the reduction was flavorful. The veggies on both of our plates were cooked nicely and still had some bite. For dessert, I tried the "Chocolate & Vanilla Bomba" (vanilla & chocolate gelato w/heart of cherry, a hint of cinnamon, and coated with chocolate). My friend got the "Pistachio Bomba," which contained pistachio, strawberry, & chocolate gelato dipped in chocolate. I liked the dark chocolate coating, but it was pretty thick so the chocolate to ice cream ratio was a bit high for my preference. My friend devoured his. The food at Elements was perfectly fine. While the presentation was great, the overall flavors, IMHO, were just okay. My friend's assessment was much higher than mine, so I'm giving Elements a low 4 instead of a high 3. One thing for sure, we received excellent service. The hostess, server, and everyone who approached our table was polite and respectful. Our water was refilled without having to ask, plates were cleared at an appropriate time, and we were able to sit and chat without feeling rushed. Granted, we were there on a slow Wednesday evening, but I did appreciate the good service. As far as I know, there aren't many non-chain restaurants in that area. I probably wouldn't drive down that way just to eat at Elements, but If you live down in the Almaden Valley, I would recommend checking it out. read more

Tasty, well prepared, creative seasoning but why are dishes served cold??? Starters: dumplings were creative but using sticky rice for the dumpling skin is a very risky bet. A bit too thick and chewy to my taste. The crust under the dumplings compensate and the filling is lovely. Mussels: well seasoned, perfectly cooked, arranged and presented. Calamari: standard. very lightly battered. Vegetarian rolls: good. fresh, delicate. Entrees: Seabass (I personally didn't/try have this dish): seemed amazingly cooked. seemed a bit drenched in sauce though but I'll definitely try it next time. Duck: nice but slightly too smokey and overcooked. Dish was served cold. 'vegetable' (potato?) slightly too heavy. Scallops and shrimps: dish was served cold. slightly too much rice compared to the rest of the dish. Fine sauce, well seasoned. Desserts looked great but I can't eat sweet so I won't leave any opinion. Perfect service, attentive and professional. Been wanting to go back since it moved to this location and happy we did. It does not look inviting from the outside but once inside it is much nicer. The menu is extensive and everything we had was delicious. The salmon Wellington was PERFECT but takes a little longer than most entrees. Also had the seafood pasta and it was very fresh and tasty. All of the portions are quite large. Wine and beer only but they do have a long wine list. Our server was a small women who was very hard to hear so that was the only drawback. Bottom line: successful Vietnamese American fusion quietly nestled in the Almaden neighborhood. ****contactless pick up**** The waiting area is big enough for parties can wait around and stay six feet apart. It was a Saturday night and one person was taking payment and gathering up the take out orders. Created a little bottleneck but wasn't really an issue. Only real downside is that you have to go inside at all. ***service*** Calling in the order could prove difficult - back to the one person taking payment and coordinating the takeout boxes. They also take the phone orders. So no wonder he never answered all call. Order by text worked seamlessly. They confirm your order also by text and tell you how long it will take. ****food**** We dined on: (1) asparagus beef rolls - flames. It's a rice wrap of sorts, wrapped around the beef, wrapped around the asparagus. Beef to asparagus ratio was much heavier on the beef. That gave me pause at first, but worked really well. There is a light coating of sauce, great at blending all the flavors together. (2) beef stew - simple but effective. A deep flavored beef broth, with chunks of beef and carrot, served over rice. The broth was the star of the show. (3) Vietnamese crispy egg rolls - crispy on the outside, meaty on the inside - JUST LIKE GRANDMAS! Little fish sauce on the side. Fun snack. (4) fresh spring rolls. Chicken, shrimp, sprouts, and mint. A must be dipped in the peanut sauce dish. I don't say this often, but I think pork instead of the chicken would improve this dish. (5) Tiramisu - much better than expected. It's one of those item, you just can't be sure if it's on the menu just because it is a often desired dessert, or if the restaurant actually cares about it. In this instance, the restaurant cares about it. Cream was light and fresh. Cake/biscuit was deeply soaked in espresso. Was missing the rum kick, but bottom line I suspect it was freshly made. (6) calamari. You know what menu the description doesn't mention? Seasoning. Turns out, there doesn't seem to be any on the calamari. Works a bit better with the sauce, but you can pass on this one. read more
