Interior is like you stepped into a Greek taverna. So well laid out and decorated. The food. Wow. Salivating as I look at my pictures! Hubbs had the branzino with broccoli rabe. Cooked to perfection and a healthy portion! I had chicken souvlaki and was really pleased with the tenderness of the chicken. Friend had the lamb chops which he said were succulent! Apps were a horiatiki salad, eggplant and zucchini chips, grilled octopus. All just beyond. The pita bread too that they bring to the table was so so gooood. It's one of the old Greek places in town. The whole experience was just so so, from service, food to bathroom cleanliness. They do daily lunch till 3pm. There was no lunch menu given at 12:30pm until I asked for it. I accidentally touched the plate placed on table and it was oily. The upside was, food was alright in taste and portion was very generous for the price. Desserts were placed on a large plate and we were given small plates to share. Those small plates were full of residue that we had to ask for replacement. Although bathroom looked okay clean, it had an unpleasant smell. Don't think I'll be returning. read more

Ordered Moussaka and Brussel Sprouts. Everything is undercooked. I couldn't believe it when I got home and opened the Brussels. They're almost raw and were completely rock solid. Look at the photo! I had to oil them up and put them back in the oven for 20 minutes. Unbelievable! the Mousakka was better, but still needed more cooking time. The layers of potato were underdone. Each time I come to eat here the food is generous in the portions and very tasty, the atmosphere is spot on, and you absolutely need to make a reservation before coming because they get packed fast. Eleni's is good for just wanting greek dinner, special occasions, maybe not first dates because it is loud there, and treat yo self dinner. One of my favorite restaurants in New York and I save it for special occasions. I've tried a lot of Greek spots but this is the best in my opinion. The staff are also great- they are part of the reason I come back Ok- food wise: you can skip the spanakopita but you have to get the grilled octopus, the halloumi, saganaki, mussels, and/or hariatiki to start. As far as main dishes go, the specials have never let me down. Most recently, we got the sea bass special, which was great. Amazing ambiance and restaurant! The servers made my birthday very special! They gave us a round of Greek liquor shots and sparklers on my cake. Everyone raved about the amazing food and portions! So for the most part, things are hit or miss. I think the staff is attentive and kind. The prices felt a bit too high for the quality of some of the food items that we got. It just didn't feel like anything "special" to justify the cost. Oh how I love dining al fresco, maybe the only NYC treat during this pandemic. IMO the only way you should enjoy fine dining in the big apple. You learn to ignore the cars and buses whizzing past you and it's a front row seat to people watching, one of my past time fav things to do. Enter Eleni's, Greek fine dining, we sat our tired asses down and the host was kind enough to give us a sanitizer squirt before ordering, we got our water right away and they even remembered the lemon! If your into Greek food, they have almost everything, from fish to meats to the traditional moussaka. We wanted a house wine which the waiter was kind enough to let us try a sample before ordering a glass, the Askitikos. It had a bite but opened up on the way down, we enjoyed it with our food. I had the salmon, wasn't dry at all and had a rich flavor along with the rice pilaf, would definitely order it again. The service was impeccable, the waiter checked on us multiple times and was more than polite and professional. Perfect for a romantic dinner with your significant other, it is fine dining and authentic Greek food in Gramercy Park so prepare to shell out well spent bucks. It's worth it. read more

We had a birthday dinner at Eleni's for our Aunt. I emailed Eleni's to make the reservation. They responded promptly. We were greeted warmly. Table ready. The service was perfection. Homemade pita and hummus. We had the Eleni's chips for an appetizer -thin and crispy fried eggplant and zucchini with tzatziki. Our Aunt had the Seafood orzo, my husband had the Salmon with linguini that had a light white wine with cream sauce and "touch" of tomato sauce, and I had the grilled salmon with a leek pilaf-it was all, so darn good! Eleni's serves up delicious Greek food with a pleasant dining experience. If you're looking to splurge a little for a nice, sit-down meal with great service, Eleni's is a great choice. The restaurant goes above and beyond with service. All of the servers were incredibly friendly and attentive throughout the meal. And the setting is great - I had lunch in their outdoor space on 3rd avenue, and never felt like I was sitting directly in the line of traffic. They've done a great job with the add-on. My family and I had the prix fixe menu for lunch, and at around $30 per person before tax and tip, it was a solid deal. One appetizer, one entree, and three small desserts each - suffice it to say that we were all stuffed by the end of the meal. The food itself was solid. We shared all our dishes, and they were phenomenal. The salmon, the souvlaki, and the moussakas were all delicious. I'd say the only dish that didn't stand out was the octopus appetizer, but even that was still good (just a little bland and too heavy on the oil, in my opinion). Food was very good. I forgot to take pictures! Had the grilled calamari - very fresh, perfectly cooked, tender, nice thicker slices of clean, grilled calamari. Not mushy at all, and the thicker slices felt more like an octopus almost. Also had the grilled vegetable platter, was excellent, portions were significant. The sautéed shrimp with red sauce also very tasty. I think I would've preferred grilled shrimp in the dish just because I like the texture of grilled shrimp better, but the sauce was very tasty. Served with lots of very fresh pita very very good. Service was also excellent. And of course the ambience is lovely. They really try to make it feel cozy - overall very satisfying - my friend and I decided to do tapas style, but the main courses we saw nearby also looked perfectly done and I'm sure we're very tasty. read more

Four of us came for an early dinner on a Friday night reservation. They kindly allowed us to sit and order drinks while waiting for the rest of our group to arrive. We started out with the Pikilia (assorted dips), Gigantes (Lima beans in tomato sauce), and Spanakopita, which conveniently came with 4 pieces. They were all really tasty and the dips came with fresh, hot, sliced pita. I didn't care for the carp roe but that's not to say it wasn't good. For dinner we ordered the Octopodi Sharas, Seafood Orzo, Paidakia (lamb chops) and Dolmadakia. Everyone was really happy with their meals. The octopus could have been charred a bit more but was tasty. The fish in the seafood orzo was really good, but there was a little too much tomato sauce in my opinion. We also split the chocolate mousse, a great sharing option. A woman who I think was the owner came around and was very nice. The staff was all attentive, although there was a weird water situation. They put a bottle on the table, but every time we tried to serve ourselves they rushed over and politely grabbed it from us. I don't have a problem with being served, but either don't put it in the table or be more proactive. read more

DO NOT COME HERE WITH LARGE GROUPS! While you may be enticed by the ability to book large parties on Resy for Eleni's you will leave feeling taken advantage of and underwhelmed. We came in with a large party for a birthday celebration and thought we were going to have a great night. Our server told us he had 15 years of experience with the chef and knew all the best things on the menu. We were not given any menus and our server assured us he knew how to take care of big groups and said he would provide us a great menu for family style dinning. He quickly ran through what we should order and it sounded nice. We tried to amend one of the items he listed and our server flat out told us no. With little other option, we trusted him to order the menu he suggested. When we got our food we quickly learned that he had ordered enough food to feed 25 people not a group of 12. He added on 4 additional dishes from what he had originally listed and ordered varying quantities of each dish. He never gave us a final review of what we were getting and there was no possible way to eat all of the food. The food its self was also underwhelming. Our final course included two ridiculously priced meat towers that were served on broken dishes, with piles of fat that looked like the trimmings intended for the garbage, chicken that was so tough you could not cut through it and so many other inedible, unappetizing components. When we received the bill for the meal it was exorbitant for even Manhattan's top fine-dining establishments, which this was absolutely not. After seeing other reviews and speaking with other patrons it appears this is a scam they continuously run on big groups. I am truly shocked by the behavior of our server and the restaurant as a whole. I would not suggest going here to anyone I know and I urge you to take your business elsewhere where you can find better food, better service and support a business that is run with integrity. I have never been so disappointed in a dining experience in my life. read more

I am not really impressed with the place. It seems over priced for the un matched quality. The decor is nice but the structure of the place seems old. The bathrooms were poorly taken care of. Nothing screams more tacky and irresponsible than an uncleaned bathroom. You would think given the prices and how well the restaurant seems to be doing, that they would be on top of their bathroom. Oh yeah thats another thing. There is only 1 bathroom for guests to share among both genders. The food is okay nothing special out of this world. Their portions and food taste is basic. Its not at all amazing where I would feel the prices may be matching top quality. It does not in this case. Don't be fooled by the nice decor and outside perspective. The drinks are nothing special either. I was do excited about trying cool drinks from their mixologist but the drinks were so expensive and lacking in all ways. To eat during my last experience I had the Gigantes Appetizer ( braised giant Greek lima beans with tomato sauce), Imam Appetizer (roasted eggplant, caramelized onions, topped with graviera cheese and tomato sauce), Giouvetsi Arni entree, (oven baked lamb shank with orzo & tomato sauce). For dessert I had their chocolate mouse. The beans were ok, I expected them more buttery. The eggplant appetizer was a half of a small baby eggplant. It was barely a bite of anything and it was covered with cheese yet I can taste the imperfections. The entree of lamb was ok, I expected the meat to be more tender, it was a bit dry. The mouse dessert was not airy enough and adding the chocolate chips made it taste cheap to me. Too much for nothing. I bet for some people its a great or decent place. Personally I like feeling proud of where I spend my money and like I said I was not impressed. They can and should do better. They most likely get lucky with tourists keeping them in business and desperate New Yorkers that work too much and rather not make home made meals. A chef should always side taste things before sending things out to customers. I saw a youtube video from Beryl Shereshewsky and she raves so much about this place but now that I think about it they probably offered her free food in exchange for the right food rating review. Our second time in person at Eleni's and it exceeded expectations again. Still my fave Greek restaurant in NYC. Loved all the dishes from this 2nd visit-- - Sal Anthony's (Lobster with Linguine): Generous portion for $39. You get a lobster tail and the claws (see image). The sauce was perfect. I'd definitely get this dish again. One of the lobster parts did seem a bit dry, but honestly the taste of the overall dish was so delicious that I didn't care. - Octopodi Sharas (Grilled octopus with fava bean purée): Such a flavorful dish with onions and an addictive purée. The octopus was tender and delicious. - Baklava: I did not like this version of Baklava, but my bf did. Fun fact: different countries to baklava differently; Eleni's version is rolled up and not quite as sticky or sweet as I normally like it. Was in the mood for greek food so stopped in. They have a $32 lunch special that includes 3 courses. I tried the spinach pie to start and it tasted like the triangle ones out of the frozen package. The lavraki as the main course was delicious. Flavorful, flaky, and cooked just right. The side dish of rice was overcooked but all good. You also get desserts and the chocolate mousse was good. We took a walk and returned at noon. There was not one customer yet. I asked for a larger table outside. We were told we could not be accommodated since we were only 2 people. We looked inside and all the smaller tables were too close to each other. We asked for a few other choices in this still empty restaurant to no avail. We left... we ate at another lovely restaurant at a socially distanced table and we were treated like gold... Here's the best part... On the way home we took a bus up 3rd avenue. We passed Eleni's. Since the weather was super hot, I opted for the salad starter with nice chunk of feta, then moussaka -- nondescript-- and mousse, which was super rich and yummy. Our server Yanni was a veritable encyclopedia of wine knowledge--a sommelier's experience but delivered with the passion and enthusiasm of a kid as opposed to a pompous, lecturing specialist. Thoroughly enjoyed each wine he recommended, and truly felt I learned something about each or the experience was enhanced by his information and tasting notes. They have some incredible Greek white wines and a surprising and subtle Rose (Ksynomavro) I tried where the color barely registered--not something I normally would have tended to but did pair well with my entree as suggested. We split an excellent scallop appetizer which was a fine starter. My friend ordered a charcoal grilled swordfish special which was fantastic. I ordered what they billed as a Seafood Orzo they billed as a "Greek paella"--seafood in tomato broth/sauce over orzo. It was tasty and filling although perhaps a bit overly salty. Taking the enthusiastic waiter's further advice, I tried a Greek liqueur with my espresso called mastika. More herbaceous and subtle than the traditional ouzo, it was a fun and tasty discovery. My friend and I lingered quite a while (first post-Covid meeting) and they kindly surprised us with a complimentary dessert plate and shot of a different liqueur. It was an incredibly generous touch and lovely end to a nice meal. One little minor note of warning--they celebrate birthdays with fanfare, with a sparkler candle and blaring music. I came in randomly unfortunately too late for the pre-fixed menu so I just ordered the Traditional Greek spreads There are 5 different spreads which are all different and really tasty and came with enough pita that I didn't have to annoyingly keep asking the waiter to bring more. The spreads are: Traditional Greek spreads tarama (carp roe), melitzanosalata (eggplant dip), spicy feta and tzatziki. I thought the carp roe was salmon-tastes similar. I was ready to love this spot. We sat in the outdoor structure. It was hot. They had no air circulation on, but fine it's summer in NY. Everything started out ok, tasted some wine, and then the entire bottle was spilled on us. Still giving this place a chance, shake it off, right? Apps came out and were great! Saganaki was amazing. Then, the service stopped. Our server never came back. The hostess stopped by and the busboy served our food. We asked for pepper and a salt shaker was given ruining my friends pasta. Nobody came back. I walked inside to order another bottle of wine. Then, when the waiter who we hadn't seen all of dinner appeared to deliver the check later he asked if we wanted dessert--well we did but not after we had waited for the check for 10 minutes. The place is relatively new but they have nailed the ambience in the social distancing as well as the outdoor seating. Some of the more adventurous items on the menu were still very well received by our group. If you are usually trepidatious of octopus, don't worry! Theirs is worth a chew. The giant butterfly shrimp were definitely some of the best ones I have had and finally the most important thing for me personally - the lamb is HALAL !! It's New Zealand , signed sealed delivered. And boy is it tender and flavorful ! Combined with the right ratio of orzo rice per bite , there's definitely a glimpse of heaven you can catch if you close your eyes.
