Some of my favorites include: -Mousaka -Chicken Kebob platter -Octopus -Saganaki -Spinach pie -Grilled Poseidon platter Usually very busy inside, especially on weekends, but they are very fast and accommodating, but never make you feel rushed. They have a private, small room in the back that I once hosted a party in. Everyone I invited loved everything. Sure if you want amazing Greek food you can go to some places in Astoria or to Greece itself, but this place is top notch for Westchester! read more

We had a really fun night at this lively taverna. It's tucked into a strip mall away from downtown Bronxville. The parking lot is small, but there are plenty of metered spaces across the street. We were hustled through the front dining room into a smaller back dining room. Most of the space was taken up by a big, boisterous party, but this didn't detract from our evening. We were served a generous portion of warm pita bread and olives. We drank a couple of bottles of excellent assyrtiko santonini 2013. It tasted a lot like sauvignon blanc- crisp, light and easy to drink. The wine seemed to evaporate out of everyone's glasses. The thing that stood out about Elia was how good our waiter was. He was gracious, efficient and gave us good advice. I was impressed that he suggested that our party of six share three entrees after grazing on a bunch of appetizers and meze. I didn't learn his name, but he made the evening. We started out with a bunch of appetizers. The best one was the grilled octopus (Sylvia Earle, forgive me!). We had mixed dips, shrimp in a tomato sauce and artichoke hearts with lentils or small peas that were all pretty good. The salad was OK. The main dishes were very good. We shared lamb kebabs, chicken kebabs and grilled shrimp over chickpeas. The rice was good, but the fries were awesome. For dessert we shared baklava, a custard pastry and a brownie. The consensus was that they were very good, but this was my least favorite part of the meal. The prices were very reasonable. This is a fun, inexpensive taverna. It's a great place to go with a group so that you can share as many dishes (and bottles of wine) as possible. read more

Grabbed dinner here with a bunch of friends on a Tues. night. It''s a good place to bring a group, though I would recommend giving them a heads. We ordered a bunch of their appetizers, including the Assorted Cold Dips, calamari and spanakopita, which I posted, and they were all good. While most of the guys ordered moussaka, I went for the lamb chop (paidakia). I think my dish was probably one of the best to order. Overall service was ok, though it got a little slower when it started to get busy. One of the perks of this place is that they allowed us to bring our own wine without charging a corking fee. I have been ordering Elia Taverna for a few months now, via DoorDash and have loved it every time, but for my birthday on 10/21, I really wanted it fresh. My boyfriend and I decided to drive the 5 minutes down the road and dine in the restaurant, and were just as pleased. From the food (I always order the falafel platter, and it is amazing), to the service (slow, but great staff!), I did enjoy my experience dining in at Elia Taverna, and will definitely return and try their other menu items. read more

Elia Taverna is accessible from either the Cross County or Hutchinson River Parkways and has limited parking at its facility (although there is public parking across the street). At its busiest, it is bustling with families and service staff bringing ample plates of delicious Greek cuisine. Our appetizer was grilled vegetable platter with a shredded cauliflower topping; both our entrees featured grilled chicken and had ingredients considered healthy (spinach, olive oil). It's how they are handled. There are many restaurants that use DoorDash and that take It upon themselves to fix problems when they occur. I've experienced it several times. If you're looking for that level of service from Elia Taverna and their employees like Marita, keep looking and don't waste your time there. This place has potential but workers like Marita and delivery people from DoorDash make it the pits. First and foremost Marita who was manning the phone on the evening 02/19/20, just doesn't care about what she does. She has no accountability for the orders that she messes up and has no work ethic or pride in what she does for a living. Elia Taverna cooked my food, packed my food. Yet Marita refused to fix the order that she totally messed up. She didn't even apologize for making a colossal set of mistakes on a really small order (missing hummus, regular coke instead of Diet Coke, 4 overcooked pieces of falafel instead of a falafel sandwich with tahini). Fortunately DoorDash refunded me 90% of money I wasted on this. I have ordered from this place before and I have endured there frequent errors. It ends tonight. read more

This is the first restaurant I had Greek food at, and I have to say, I loved it! The food was delicious from the first bite. The tzatziki appetizer I had was great, even the olives were wonderful. My dish- shrimp santorini was beyond words, I just can't explain how much I loved it. The lemon potatoes were a great addition and I suggest them as a side! Yummmmm!!! Got a table easily on a Saturday night even though it was bustling! Very straightforward solid Greek food that we know and love. I stuffed my face with their amazing ours bread beforehand and could barely eat my entree as a result, but it was worth it. We had the Souvlaki and the moussaka and both were spot on. I think we spent a total of 45 min in and out of the restaurant but there were plenty of larger groups that were enjoying a leisurely meal. I will definitely be back! read more

I like Elias. The serve delicious bread and olives to start. The food is tasty in a homey way. Not everything is great, but there's a stand-out in every meal. The eggplant dish known as Imam (probably what's known as Imam Biyaldi in other places) is truly excellent -- really delicious. They do a very good job with calamari, too. Might be more of 3.5 than a 4 star, but I'll bump them up rather than down because I find the place so authentic and the staff so nice. One important note: they never got a liquor license, so it's BYOB. Personally, I like that -- I have a lot of good wine I am happy to drink, and comparable wine in a restaurant costs twice as much. Try to remember to bring a bottle, but if you forget, there's a good grog shop right across the road. Recommended. read more

This used to be a decent restaurant. The cleanliness is simply not there. The bathrooms reek of urine and the staff are clearly not implementing sanitary standards. They are using the same dirty rag to wipe down every table & seat without the use of disinfectant & my servers clothes didn't appear clean either. This review is so way over due. I have been coming to Elia since they first opened their doors and I can say their quality is unparalleled. I order out at least once or twice a week and their food is always fresh and hot. I have had my fair share of Greek food around Westchester but I have to say this place always nails it! 100% would recommended their stuffed grape leaves (they are fresh and warm) the grilled octopus is literally amazing I usually order that with a salad. All of their sandwiches and platterare really good and the Greek style fries with cheese and lemon are very addicting! The customer service here is always on point everyone is super nice and accommodating and they make a point to remember you for when you come back. If I could give more stars to this review I would!! I was here last night, and it was a really great experience (and no, I'm not a friend or relative of the owner as is claimed by one of the negative reviewers). The biggest problem is parking. As a consequence, handicapped/elderly access isn't trivial. But the food was really good. Greek Salad was very good. Grilled shrimp were served butterflied and were truly outstanding - SO tasty! Shrimp Santorini were also excellent. Rice and Fries (sliced potatos pan fried) served with the meals were very good. Avgolemono soup also very good. Delicious olives and pita bread served with the meal. Tables and ambiance is simple (paper napkins) but not diner-like and for good food, who cares? Portion sizes are adequate to large with food left over. Place was crowded during dinner hour on a Saturday night. I am finishing my leftovers tonight! read more

We came here to celebrate my husband's graduation. They had our table ready before we arrived even though I had to change the reservation time. The complimentary olives they give with the bread are SCRUMPTIOUS! They're pickled in what seems like lemon and garlic and they had no problem refilling it for us. I was a little less impressed with the tzatziki sauce and Greek salad which were not as flavorful as I'm used to. Everyone seemed happy with their dishes (mixed grill, lamb dish, orzo dish, salmon/fish). The staff are friendly and accommodating, though a bit slow to take our orders. Thursday nights seem to be pretty popular at Elia Taverna. Many patrons braved the harsh downpour of rain to enjoy a nice dinner here last night. While I must admit my previous visit was not the greatest, however I now see Elia Taverna in a new light. I suppose every restaurant is entitled to an off day. I had the pleasure of meeting the owner as well and was impressed at how involved he was with the entire workflow of the restaurant. Most owners would just sit around and delegate but Rui was right in the kitchen with the chefs ensuring the orders were flowing smoothly and even preparing the delivery and take out orders for their drivers. The restaurant was nicely decorated for the holidays. Everything was on point! The service was attentive and professional. There were children sitting at the table next to us as well and when one of them dropped a plate I was pleasantly surprised at how the waitstaff handled it. Rather than get upset the waitress yelled OPA! and played along with the situation humorously and then promptly went to the table to see if anything needed to be cleaned up. Fortunately the plate survived and everyone commenced dining. We were check on frequently and had our water refilled several times. Our food was brought out very promptly and was fresh and piping hot. To start we had the calamari and some falafel. The calamari was well cleaned, nicely breaded, and cooked perfectly. It was paired with lemon and a mildy sweet yet tangy sauce. I didn't try the falafel but my son seemed to enjoy it immensely. In between courses our table was refreshed and our plates whisked away in preparation for our main entree's just like clockwork. I ordered the same dish I did last time which was the chicken souvlaki platter and I must say that they are very consistent with it. I was just as delicious as the last time. My husband ordered the shrimp souvlaki and we each tasted each other's food. I found the shrimp to be very juicy with a nice grilled char on it just like the chicken. Both dishes had the same savory herb flavors. On my last visit I got the fries and was a bit thrown of that they are not traditionally cut fries so this time I tried the rice and found it to be a better option. I also want to try the lemon potatoes as well at some point. My son ordered the lamb kebab's and he cleaned his plate. Lamb can be a very tricky meat to cook and they definitely did it right. It was nice and tender, not overcooked in the slightest. My youngest son had the Athena from the kids menu. The servings were plentiful, even on the kids menu. I couldn't even finish my platter so I took the rest of my order to go along with some baklava for later. The baklava is definitely authentic here. It's generously filled and stacked high with lots of flavor. I do have two minor suggestions for the restaurant. Since the restaurant is indeed kid friendly it may be a good idea to install a changing station in the bathroom. As space is limited I would recommend one of the folding ones that are built into the wall. This would make it much more convenient for parents with young children but of course we made due without one. There is also an issue with headlights shining through the restaurant when a car pulls right up to the front. When seated facing the window the lights beam right at eye level. I believe this issue can be resolved by replacing the semi-sheer curtains with blackout curtains just for the lower area of the window. That being said our overall experience was wonderful and we look forward to returning. read more

A hidden gem of authentic and traditional Cypriot and Greek cuisine, the place is often packed, but well worth the wait. Parking is often difficult, which is why many people may not be familiar with this location. The food: The octopus is fantastic every time I've ordered it, it comes soft, smokey, with the perfect hint of grill char you would expect at a seaside taverna on a Greek island. The kleftiko tastes like your grandma used to make it. The saganaki is perfect, not overly oily and tastes authentic, but the real treat is the grilled Haloumi, which is the Cypriot version of the dish, a must try if you haven't before. Portions are adequate, ambiance is quiet enough to converse, but lively enough to feel like you're out for a treat. If you're looking for a place that reminds you of your last vacation in New York, this is the place you've been missing. read more

This is my favorite Greek restaurant in Westchester, and I'm pretty sure I tried just about all of them here. I'm originally from Astoria, so I know the real deal with good Greek food. I've been coming here since they opened. They get really crowded for dinner, so your best bet is to either go early or go for lunch. The waiter Adan is a real sweetheart. He treats me like a princess whenever I am there and always hooks me up with the complimentary glasses of wine. Adan wasn't there today when me and my friend came for lunch. We still had great service, but it just wasn't the same. Both dishes we ordered were fantastic. We ordered the keftedes and lamb with orzo lunch specials. I absolutely love keftedes. Keftedes are beef meatballs with mint and onions, dredged in flour and lightly fried. I believe there are potatoes in the mixture as well to bind it all up. I L-O-V-E these! So perfect and delicious with a side of lemon potatoes and a greek salad. My friend enjoyed the lamb with orzo. The lamb was fall off the bone tender. We couldn't order the loukemades for dessert. The waiter said they don't serve it during lunch. I had them once here with another friend and they are incredibly good. Out of this world good. They brought me back to when I was a teenager in Astoria, every year there would be a Greek festival. I would eat these hot out of the oil with the sticky honey syrup drizzled all over them. 4.5 stars for delicious Greek food and great service!! I live near Astoria, and thought it was the place to go for good Greek, but Elia holds its own against any Astoria spot. We came in with a party of 8, and it wasn't too busy, so their was no wait. The restaurant filled with bright deep blue tiles and decor, and definitely has a lovely Mediterranean feel. They started us with two large plates of pita and mixed olives. The pita here is out of this world good! They serve it with a mixture of Red and Green olives that are in a lemon, garlic, olive oil marinade. AMAZING & FREE! :) I ordered the Falafel Sandwich with Tzaziki. The falafels were perfectly fresh, moist and seasoned. The Tziki was some of the best I've ever had. It wasn't watery or runny for the cucumber, but it was thick like Greek yogurt and had fantastic flavor. I got Lemon Potatoes on the side, which were lightly cooked with lemon, garlic and olive oil. Perfectly done and not too lemon-y at all. Tried the the Galuk - the custard and phyllo pie, which was delicious, maybe a little buttery, but still good. The Baklava was fresh and great too, but was in large slices and kind of falls apart, I think its tastier and easier to eat in smaller flatter portions like a lot of bakeries sell it. I'm not quite sure what happened here today. My family and I went there for lunch, drove 20mins out of the way for "the best" Greek food in Westchester. We were so disappointed. We ate here about a year before and had a terrific meal. My husband grew up in Queens and had access to some of the best Greek food. This food in no way compares. The tzatziki was a huge letdown. I swear it was made with sour cream. It was the most bland tzatziki I have EVER had. It was so bizarre. A little onion powder and we would of had a great chip dip. Our waitress was not very friendly. We were sitting for at least 15mins before she took our drink order. This was odd because there was only one other table of two at the time. She also seemed a little annoyed when I asked for milk slightly warmed for my 2yrd old. I don't think that's a crazy request... Maybe it was just a bad, bad day for this place but we would not go out of our way again to eat here. read more

Atmosphere is very nice and quaint-- dim lighting and nicely decorated for the holidays. Heard a lot of great reviews from various friends so I was looking forward to coming to this spot. As we walked in right before closing the host seemed a little angry at us and sort of rushed us to order because the kitchen was closing. We tried the charcoal grilled octopus, it was great very soft and flavorful! The Greek burger aka "Beeftekia" and it was very flavorful however not your typical burger, it came with two patties and no bun, the Elia's salad with grilled chicken. The chicken was piled high on the side for only 4$ and the salad was a decent salad. Finally I tried the spanakopita with a side of rice however there was a mix up and I got the lemon potatoes. When I told the waiter about the mix up he rushed to get me a side of rice for no charge which was really sweet. The spanakopita was great, stuffed with spinach, the lemon potatoes weren't my cup of tea because I honestly don't like the over powering lemon flavor and the rice was obviously there all day because it was cold and hard but still alright. Happy to have discovered a solid Greek place not far from home. My only criticism is the parking lot. I've only come on weekdays so I haven't had to deal with busy crowds but it's pretty apparent parking's probably an issue on the weekends. In fairness though, I haven't experienced it so I can't hold it against them. What I can talk about is the top-notch service. After my first trip here I pointed out to a friend the fact that they continued to refill our water glass well after we had finished our meal. Granted, it was slower hours, but it's enough to speak to the attention to hospitality here. Our first time here the maitre'd heard our order and realized we were likely 'eating with our eyes' and so he kindly urged us to pare down our order to about three items, despite the fact that we'd be spending less. Some might call that a poor business model, but it's honesty like that that makes people want to come back again. Between the service and the exceptional food, we almost had no choice but to come back the next night with two other friends. And after gushing about the place to my sister (who's a huge fan of Greek food), I'm sure I've got another trip in store shortly. Will most certainly be back! read more

I'm glad I found this place thanks to other yelpers! I went early before the regular dinner crowd. I started with a plate of hummus and warm pita bread (with drizzled olive oil and garlic). My partner and I were in the mood to eat grilled food so we shared their grilled meat platter with rice and a greek salad. This platter seemed to come with two of each type of meat so it is plenty for two or three people. First of all the service is really friendly and attentive. I also found the place to be nice clean and nicely decorated. The platter came and it smelled fresh and fire grilled. The meats consisted of Giro, a ground beef patty, chicken and sausage which were all so good and tasty.
