Had reservations for dinner here on a Saturday night. It was pretty busy upon our arrival but we got sat down right away. Parking was kinda tough, so make sure you give yourseld enough time to park. We sat inside and it was small but really nice inside. The service was great, our server was very attentive and welcoming. We started with the bone marrow board and it was delicious. All the spreads were great, the bread was perfectly toasted and fresh. We then got the Caesar salad, it didnt seem to be a traditional Caesar dressing it was very light and not too creamy. The mafaldine was ok, it didnt taste like a spicy vodka sauce it was a bit bland and the sauce was just plain. The short ribs agnolotti was also just ok, the rib was a bit dry and over cooked. This is a decent place for Italian food. The roasted cauliflower was pretty good and unique. The pepperocini and red onions went well with it. The angel hair with mussels and clams were very good. It looks like spaghetti-os but it is very good. The gnocchi was also good and interesting given its abnormal shape.it was very pillowy and good with the sauce. Both pasta dishes had some sort of kick with it. The atmosphere was lively and but of noise with as many ppl as there was eating there. The service was a little bit inconsistent, from being late to being seated after making a reservation to not being attendee to in a timely manner. Overall good place to eat at. This place... We went for an early dinner. The brussel sprouts were delicious. HIGHLY recommend and what saved this from having no stars. There are flies EVERYWHERE. It was almost unsanitary. The water was warm they served in oily giara glass bottles. My pasta (Malfadine) was bland, my friends pasta (Cavatelli) was aggressively salty. Random man with basketball shorts strolls into the kitchen. Not a hairnet or gloves in site from anyone in the kitchen. I'm just... Beside myself. From ambiance, to professionalism, to sanitary practice, to food quality, every single thing was unforgivably bad. Tipped our waiter 22%, he was fantastic. Love that they oyster hour. Indoor and outdoor dining. There was no ac inside so sat outside with the shaded umbrella. They have little fly rotating fans but it really doesn't do enough to keep the flys away. Service was nice but kinda slow. Oysters were the best bites we had, sadly let down by all the pastas. I've tried Ellie's twice in the past month and had mixed experiences. My first visit was for brunch. There was a short wait for an outdoor table, but I was seated in less than ten minutes. The table was a bit dusty and dirty when I was seated and the hostess commented on it as she put down my menu. I expected that she or someone else would follow up by cleaning it off, but I had to ask them to clean the table when the server came out with some water. I get that it's outside on a street and that the tables are going to get a bit dusty, but then you should wipe each one down before seating someone. Or at the very least, follow through after noticing a table is dirty when seating a guest. I was in the mood for a good potato dish, so I ordered the hangar steak hash, which promised "crispy potatoes." This was a misnomer. While the potatoes might have started out crispy, they were then drowned in a lake of salsa macha that left them soft and a little mushy. Needless to say I was super disappointed in that portion of the meal. The hangar steak, however, was divine. I'm not sure calling this dish a "hash" did it any real service, because it is really is not. If it had been billed as sliced hangar steak served on potatoes in salsa macha my expectations would have been much more in line with what I received. For my next visit I decided to try the prix fixe lunch menu. For $35 you get a salad or veggie side, entree, and chef's choice dessert. There is a $10 upcharge for the steak frites, which I do understand, but also as a standalone entree it only costs a couple of dollars more than some of the other items, so $10 seems a little high. I think $5 would be more reasonable. I ordered the shrimp & melon salad and malfadine. The shrimp & melon salad was delicious. I highly recommend it. The malfadine was a perfectly al dente thick pasta with a slightly spicy sauce and a small amount of burrata. Portions of both the salad and pasta were generous and I took half my pasta home as leftovers. The dessert was brought out but not described before the server walked away. Since there are no desserts listed on the menu, it would be nice for the server to tell you what they are giving you when they bring it out. It was a refreshing cup of berries, freshly whipped cream (not too sweet), and a balsamic drizzle. It was a nice light ending to the meal. Considering both visits, my impression of Ellie's is that the level of service does not rise to the high prices. The prix fixe lunch, however, is an excellent value and if you're going to give Ellie's a try I would highly recommend you start there. read more

Cute little neighborhood restaurant. We went for the bone marrow board and ended also getting a bunch of apps. The atmosphere is cozy and the staff are super nice. The food: the bone marrow board was definitely a favorite but quite rich. The pork butter was really good. The apple one was not my fave but was interesting. We also got the crab toast which was delish but not a huge portion - good to share with two I think. The burrata was delish (the rolls it came with were really good). The beef tartare was good too. We also got the shrimp dish which was three large sized shrimp but I'm not sure if it was the shrimp that day but they tasted a little fishy (not super fresh). Otherwise the seasoning was good. Ellie's was an absolute treat from start to finish. We enjoyed a beautiful evening sitting outside, with perfect weather that made the experience even more enjoyable. The standout dish of the night was the scallops -- perfectly done, beautifully presented, and bursting with flavor. They were easily one of the best scallop dishes I've had in a long time and truly the star of the meal. The service was warm, attentive, and professional without ever feeling rushed. The staff made us feel welcome and ensured everything was just right throughout the evening. Had high hopes for Ellie's after hearing great things from local friends, and while there were definitely some highlights, the overall experience fell a bit short for me. We ordered the Ellie's Caesar, the Angel Hair Pasta, and the Mafaldine with sausage. Of the two pastas, I preferred the angel hair -- it had a nice flavor, but I wish the sauce had been a bit thicker and served hotter. The mafaldine had well-spiced sausage and I liked the texture of the thick noodles -- hearty and satisfying. The Caesar salad was fresh and nicely dressed with a good tang from the lemon, but it leaned a little too sour for my taste. We sat on the patio, which was a plus -- the weather was great and it's a nice setup for a relaxed meal. Service was fine, nothing out of the ordinary. My husband and I made a reservation for a Friday night. We got lucky with parking so we arrived early and were able to get seated early. The interior wasn't what I expected but it was cozy! We ordered: 1. Wagyu Carpaccio - The celery was interesting as it added a crunch to the dish but thought this dish was just okay. 2. Shrimp and Melon Salad - I wasn't sure what to expect when reading about this dish on the menu but I really enjoyed it! The shrimp, melon, cucumbers, and mint were all so refreshing. 3. This is absolutely unbelievable food. I just ate there last night and woke up to write a review. I don't think I've ever written a review so fast after eating. This is the second time I've been here. Second time was because I had something delicious the first time. It was a braised short rib type dish but I don't remember what it was exactly, but it made an impression on me. Had to see if Ellie's was a one-dish pony. It's not. I jumped on Yelp, right before our reservation (highly recommended) and looked up the most popular dishes. Several Yelpers suggested the shrimp and melon salad. This is BY FAR, my favorite salad now. Even though the combination seems odd, you should try it at least once. It's very flavorful and refreshing. My supersweet waiter then recommended the gnocchi as another popular dish and it too was fabulous. It's way more robust dish than you would imagine. It does have a little kick to it so be careful if you don't like spicy. My friend got the angelhair pasta which was also very tasty. I have to say, the food is absolutely unbelievable. It's as if the chef and I have the exact same preferences. Other details: The restaurant itself is nice, intimate and clean. Love the people who work here too. Our waiter was so nice and personable. Wish I knew his name to thank him for his recommendations. He had a beanie. :) Only negative is the parking. I'd suggest ubering there or plan on driving around for a bit and wear your walking shoes. I would not recommend coming here. We ordered the Caesar salad, mafaldine, and steak frites, and almost everything came out cold or disappointing. The Caesar salad was extremely bland and barely had any dressing. It honestly felt like they just put lettuce in a bowl and sprinkled parmesan on top. The mafaldine was cold and had no flavor. The steak was overcooked, way too salty, and the fries were cold. The service made the experience even worse. We told our waiter, Jacob, that the fries were cold, and his response was, "What do you want me to do?" From the beginning, he came across as rude and made us feel uncomfortable the entire time. He did bring out new fries, but those were cold too. When the pasta came out cold as well, we told him, but we ended up canceling it because we did not want to keep dealing with the attitude. On top of that, within 5-10 minutes of our food being served, he started pressuring us to close out because his shift had ended. He only came by to try to close the check and never actually checked on us. We spent around $50 and left hungry, uncomfortable, and completely unsatisfied. This restaurant had good reviews so I made a reservation since we were up for the weekend. The restaurant is cute and intimate and has a nice outdoor patio area. It was pretty chilly outside and they kept the front door open which made the restaurant very cold. It was pretty uncomfortable. Other patrons were moving from the tables in front of the door as it was that cold. Our server was very nice. He explained that they have a smaller kitchen so once we knew our whole order, he would take it. He also noted that their menu was meant to be family style and shared. I would have to disagree. The servings were enough just for one person so I would not say "family style". But we all tried each other's entrees. Also a quick note that isn't a huge deal but he never refilled our water container so we had to ask for more water. We ordered the following: Carpaccio- so nice and refreshing. The olives gave it a nice zangy flavor. Yam- wow! It was creamy but the skin was crispy. The sauce was light and it all went very well together. Lasagna- you could tell the pasta was homemade. It was so light and good. The sausage was fantastic and the sauce was amazing. Tagliatelle- the pasta was great but the sauce was smoky and very good. Wagyu sirloin- nice and tender and the chimichurri was good and a bit smoky. My stepson got the bread pudding dessert and he said it was good. Cute restaurant. Always heard good things about here and after trying it I'm not sure why. It gave hard core soft opening vibes, while being an established restaurant. After sitting, our waitress gave us a long, weird lecture about how and when to order because their kitchen was "so small." Everything needed to be coordinated or something. Then yep she was right, food came out at weird sporadic times so I guess unless you want to eat alone and at random, you're screwed. Food was good but insanely expensive. Came here with my best friend to celebrate her birthday and we had such a wonderful dinner! The restaraunt itself is a little smaller but so cute, and the service was amazing. Our waiter was so knowledgeable of the menu and the whole cooking process. He was so nice & so thorough answering all of our questions :) (and offered us samples of the wines we were unsure about!) The food was delicious & 100% worth the visit. The potato croquettes are addicting & i ordered this black truffle gnocchi (?) I think it was the Mafaldine but i'm not 100% sure. In Long Beach, it is just inappropriate to have $30 entrees without air-conditioning. There are other equally good Italian restaurants that offer a much more comfortable dining experience. The place is pretty small so for less than $5k the owners could have a split system installed. Furthermore, they didn't even offer ice water on a 90 degree day. The wait staff were sweating too. I had this place on my list to try for a while. Again, the food was great, but I really would not consider supporting a restaurant that charges a premium but doesn't deliver comfort while dining. This restaurant has been on my list to try for years and I finally got the chance to try it for the first time with some family. It was amazing. The service was excellent. All staff were very friendly and attentive. We sat outside and it felt like a cozy neighborhood café/restaurant. We ordered many dishes and they were all flavor explosions. One of our favorite dishes was the gnocchi. The gnocchi itself had an almost pillow texture and was the best gnocchi I've ever had. I will definitely be coming back here. Everything was so lowkey and good vibes I really enjoyed it. Seems to be a neighborhood staple. The menu rotates so I really enjoy the versatility there. Plenty of options from vegetarian to dishes with different meats that can always be taken off based on your preference. The gnocchi was my favorite so so good maybe the best gnocchi I've had and I've been to Italy haha. Rolls were amazing and surprisingly they have better fries than in n outs animal fries. I was so excited to try this place based on some good buzz from a couple girl friends. Had a dinner reservation for 4 on a Friday night and we were seated inside right away. This place was jumping. First impressions...the waitress was wearing a casual sweater and casual jeans with a couple holes in her back pocket. She looked very sloppy. The waiters were dressed down in black with jeans, some with spilled food on their shirts. Do waiters not think we notice? We were seated near a window. As I was facing the blinds, I noticed how filty they were. Zoom in on my posted photos. It appeared as if a brown liquid splattered and dripped all the way down these two blinds. It looked old and dry, as if the filth had been there for days. Gross. I started to look around for a restaurant rating from the health department. Couldn't find it. Then my eyes glanced around the rest of our seated area...chipped paint in several places on the corner wall over my guests shoulder, and 4" chip of paint hanging on the entrance door jam. Dirty glass windows. Yuck. One of my table guests pointed out a large stainless steel refrigerator across the room which looked like the door was hanging crooked and broken. An odd site for guests to view out in the open. Do the owners think people don't notice? Now onto the food. The $10 bread and butter was so enjoyable with the creamy butter spread and pickled onions, though the bread was burnt in some areas, (which we left behind on our plates, leaving us less to eat). Be prepared for the dishes to come out one at a time. That's always a downer in my book. The hamburger came out first. After two minutes, we told our guest to start eating so it wouldn't get cold. He was halfway done eating when my angel hair pasta came out. Man did they over do it on the chili's. The heat overpowered the dish, even when I took all the chilies out. It was a very poor balance, Mr. Chef. The third dish to come out was this same dish except it was ordered without the chili's. My guest shook her head and told me it was too bland. As we compared our dishes, we noticed her dish had more pasta and less lobster. She counted three, yes only three pieces of lobster -- and, I witnessed it! I had much more shrimp and lobster than hers and less pasta. We commented to each other THIS DISH WAS NOT WORTH THE PRICE! What's up with not having duplicated consistency with your dishes Mr. Chef? My last guest ordered the Pasta dish with roasted garlic pomodoro (can't remember the exact name). He said couldn't taste the garlic. I asked to sample it. Yep, I totally agreed! He was so disappointed with the portion size and was complaining that he was still hungry. Here we were, over $150 later and all NOT SATISFIED with our experience. Ellie's is a great neighborhood spot. I love coming here. The service is always so friendly, and the food options are great. My friends and I tried the carrots, the cauliflower, the burrata, the ceasar salad, and the malfadine pasta with sausage. The standout is undoubtedly the carrots. Such complex flavors. Sweet and savory. I could eat it all day. The burrata was the next best thing. The bread is perfectly grilled and the acid from the hot sauce and the fat from the burrata pair perfectly together. The cauliflower and ceasar salad were both very solid options, but just didn't stand out as much. The pasta was lovely. The pasta itself was perfectly cooked. We sat outside and it was so lovely to enjoy such a nice day. We paired everything with a bottle of Malbec which was great. I will keep bringing people back even though the parking is nearly imposssible here. It is so worth it. It's like a hug from your Italian grandma even if you aren't Italian read more

After an awesome paddle boarding trip, we were excited to try Ellie's in Long Beach. We arrived around 3:30 PM and were initially impressed--the manager and our server, Christian, were welcoming and got us a shaded table for our group of six. It was happy hour, so we ordered the Everything Fries, Parker House rolls, and potato croquettes. Christian suggested doubling up on the rolls and croquettes, which we appreciated. While the texture was nice, both items lacked flavor. The fries were crispy but way too salty. We also ordered a puppy patty for our dog and a burger for my girlfriend's daughter. But once we placed our entrée orders, things went downhill fast. We ordered two spicy chicken sandwiches, one burger, and two fish & chips. About 15 minutes later, only the burger and one chicken sandwich arrived. After waiting a bit, I flagged down Christian, who apologized and explained that there was only one cook working because the rest were on break. Apparently, this is common during happy hour. The second chicken sandwich came out 20 minutes later, and the fish & chips arrived another 15 minutes after that. The burger was decent, although heavy on the mustard. Again, the fries were over-salted. The chicken sandwiches were labeled as "spicy," but had no heat whatsoever. The fish and chips were the most disappointing--overcooked, dry, and mostly breading with very little actual fish. To top it all off, several of the plates we were served on were chipped plates, which was pretty off-putting. Christian acknowledged the long delays, but aside from an apology, no effort was made to address the issues. Ellie's has a nice ambiance and started off on a good note, but the lack of execution in the kitchen and overall service left us pretty disappointed. Probably wouldn't return. read more
