I had never been to Elmer's before. My wife had recommended stopping here for dinner when we were dropping off my stepdaughter for college. It was hard to decide what I wanted to order when looking at the menu, but do not take that as I was put off by what they offered. Oh no, not at all. It all looked very appetizing and the prices were certainly fair. I opted for the chicken fried steak and was not disappointed in the least; the steak itself was tender, the gravy served over it was to die for, and the potatoes were cooked perfectly. I cook for a living and can attest pulling off all three is very difficult to do. The waitress was very helpful and friendly and tended to our needs when asked with a smile. If we had a question, she was more than happy to answer and if she didn't know she would find out from somebody who did. The atmosphere was very inviting with various pictures from locations in the northwest with a classic dine in restaurant interior. We went to dinner in Hillsboro and ordered soup and salad the menu says a bowl of soup. When we got out food it was just a cup so we ask why the menu says BOWL but all we got for an answer was " I dont know why corporate did that ". We will be going to Beaverton. Family & I had a great meal at Elmers! This was our first visit to the Hillsboro location. Our server Anna took good care of us and kept our coffees full. The Maple Bacon pancakes were awesome as were the Farm Stuffed Crepes. We will visit again the next time we are in town. read more

Hey who would have thunk it? A place that looks suspiciously like Denny's but tastes SO MUCH BETTER! And I have not broken my rule of waiting and reviewing a place after I've eaten there more than once. I've now been here at least 10 times, and I can't wait to go back. We go to breakfast at least 4 times a month, and half of that is here. They are, in many ways, better than Hales down the road a couple of miles. The first time we visited it was around 6:45 in the morning as we were heading out of town. And they were hoppin and ready for us. The coffee ain't bad. It's not French Roast, but not bad. The first half point off is for the coffee. But they come around with a big pitcher of orange juice, and for ONE DOLLAR you can get a glass as soon as you sit down. This is a very good thing. And it's tasty! Got pulp! Then - checking the menu items - you grow excited! They have DUTCH BABIES! Fluffy, perfectly cooked, served right with lemon and powdered sugar, and of course syrup and butter if you want! They have hazelnut pancakes, thick and dense! They have potato pancakes with bacon and applesauce - these are the BEST potato pancakes outside of the Beach Dog in Lincoln City. They are two beautiful disks of crispy, fresh tasting, bacon-and-green-onion-and-cheese-filled lovelies that delight your mouth with every next bite. They are served with a nice big blob of sour cream! OMG i can't wait to go back for them. They are my new discovery there. They have an omelet with a name about the Sun (The Sun Also Rises?) and it is SO GOOD - have you ever had chipotle bacon? Me neither, but you have got to try it! Hot bacon, yes. And the avo in there, with the cheese, it's a joy to eat this omelet. The egg shell is thin and therefore not overcooked. The stuff in the middle is hot. The portions are big but not so big -perfect. Hash browns, neh. Okay, nothing special. The first time I got them I saw they had some that said "seasoned" on the menu. So I got them, thinking they had some sort of, er, well, SEASONING??? No. so I asked the waitress, what is the seasoning on these 'seasoned' hashed browns. She came back and said, salt and pepper! Haha. But they are fine - hot and sometimes crisp and sometimes not as crisp. I think they use all their potato mo-jo for the potato pancakes, again, a must-get. They have the chicken apple sausage that became so popular along with the regular links. That stuff is very good, surprisingly so. I might get it next time, though hard to sway me from regular. There are tons of other menu items, and you can find their menu online, so go check it out, and check out the staff too. They are the most pleasant, happy bunch who seem to love their jobs and they all have good experience and know the routine. I'm a huge fan. JT's verdict? GO GO GO run make haste and get the potato pancakes and/or the Dutch babies for sure. And do check out their new family-style meals, with ginormous casseroles they serve at dinner for a good price. Got to this restaurant at 10:30AM for breakfast. Got seated right away however it took forever to get our order placed. Finally placed our order and left at 11:30as we had yet to get our food. Service was horrible and our waitress was a fruitcake. She had 3 orders screwed up that we could see. Went to pay for the coffee and had to wait again. Finally we threw 6 bucks on the counter and left. Never going there again. Bad service and bad waitress. read more

When I went here I got seated and they asked what I wanted to drink.. We never got our drinks and they never even came to take our order. When we left, after about 15 minutes, we told them no one ever came near us and they said "I don't think anyone knew you were there".. There were no utensils on the table, even after we had our food. The prices were fair. The interior was blah (blah, blah, blah) and the breakfast burrito was boring. The service was just OK, nothing to pen a postcard home about however; the berry dutch baby was absolutely delish (extra star) and it was huge. Dear Elmer's Restaurant Patrons and Staff: I already know I don't have to tell you how important it is to enjoy your meal when eating out. Making your experience enjoyable is usually the most important goal in any establishment you walk into. On a charming spring afternoon, of April 6th, 2018 a woman was dining at Elmer's Restaurant accompanied by her partner, their daughter, a good friend and their daughter. The patrons ask to be seating on the other side of the dining area, away from the rest of the patrons. It is one of the children's third birthday. After ordering their meals, the birthday girl is showing her excitement, like most three year olds do. However, nothing could have prepared the guests for what happened next. The young patron, celebrating her third birthday, was diagnosed with a neurological disorder called Rett's Syndrome. Now, you've probably heard about Rett's Syndrome, so you know that this rare genetic mutation affects the brain development in those living with this condition. This can affect children as young as six months. Over time, it can cause rapid loss of coordination, speach, and use of the hands, as well as more severe symptoms. The supervisor of this establishment took it upon themselves to walk up to this family and asks if there is anything that can be done to control the child. The patron informs this supervisor that her daughter has a disability due to her medical condition, and states that she can try to keep her child quieter but that this is not a guarantee due to her daughter's symptoms from living with Rett's Syndrome. This supervisor is persistent in wanting the child to be seen and not heard, and asks the parents if they can take their daughter outside. Within ten minutes, they've received their meal, and soon the check, with the waiter hinting at them to leave soon. As this family is paying for their rushed meal, and attempting to leave without further embarassment, the other patrons are celebrating the fact that a severely disabled child and their family was mistreated due to being different. Now, this is the reality that many families of children with Rett's Syndrome faces, on an almost daily basis. With common phrases hurled towards the families, such as "Can't you make THAT kid stop screaming?", "Omg, they don't know how to parent.", and "You shouldn't even bring them out if they can't act right!". Most parents to these children look for understanding and compassion but are met with judgement and disrespect. Many of these parents have admitted to crying themselves to sleep at night because of this kind of abuse. Many parents become used to this by random people on the street, but it shouldn't ever happen in the safety of a business, especially when their children are legally protected under the American's with Disabilities Act. But here we are, seeing businesses like Elmer's Restaurant abuse a family that just wanted a normal birthday meal for their daughter. If you feel as I do that this is unacceptable behavior and an unreasonable response by the staff members of this business, then you will want to urge Elmer's Restaurant to do better, to take responsibility for their actions, to issue a formal apology to the family without any further delay. So please, urge them to take action and show us that they have a moral obligation to all of their clientele. Sincerely, E. Fay Tune P.S. As a chain, Elmer's is easily 3 stars. This particular Elmer's just can't seem to get it together. I have eaten here 3-4 times in the past few months and the service is consistently slow and basically horrible. The waitresses are friendly enough, which I suppose you have to be when food takes forever to be served and orders are more often than not wrong. read more

Food was pretty good... When it got here, it seemed to get to our table here and there, my salad came couple minutes before my prime rib so it got cold while I finished eating it. My son got served pancakes but the waiter didn't bring the syrup till we asked and my son was half done eating his meal. Husbands order was slightly wrong sent it back and it never returned till we asked. Our waiter Manuel c. Crêpes and coffee are really good, our server was really nice and attentive...orders were taken quickly and food came to the table surprisingly fast with the amount of customers in the restaurant... My only complaints are is that its very noisy and its definitely not the cleanest environment, the carpets are noticeably dirty with tons of rappers and sugar packets and what not all over the place.. read more

Less than two weeks ago (22 Aug 17) I had lunch at this restaurant, a favorite of mine for more than 20 years. Quite frankly it was a very bad experience. In fact, it was a horrible experience. They know why. They know why because the following day (23 Aug 17) I informed them of that by posting a brief summary of the events that occurred and then giving them the lowest possible rating (one star) I could possibly give them in a Yelp review.. TONIGHT (1 Sept 17)...In a few short minutes I am going to expunge that review and am replacing it with this one, a five-star rating, the highest possible rating I can give. Earlier today I gave them another chance while again taking care of some out-of-town business in Hillsboro, some 60 miles away. I wanted to do something nice for myself so I stopped by and had their BLT Crab salad, a long-time favorite of mine. It was a delicious meal and the service was great, as usual. No, I did not tell them who I was or make any reference whatsoever to the previous bad experience until I had left my usual 20 per-cent tip and paid the bill. And no, I did not take them up on their earlier generous offer for two free meals. Nor would I even consider doing that in the future. Assuming the offer is still valid, that is. :) They are getting this top-drawer, five star review for one simple reason, the same reason I gave them the earlier poor rating: They deserved/deserve it. My guess is that due to any number of reasons, we were both having a really bad day at that particular time when I was there nine days ago. Elmer's is your typical family restruant. It sort of has an old time fell of a diner where you walk in and everyone knows your name, but the fell just doesn;t get on since the size is quite large and no "bar" seating. Go in on any typical morning and you'll find a lot of seniors, some middle age people and maybe a group of kids on a "trip" This review is for the breakfast since thats all I've had there. Menu has decent choices. Hashbrowns seem to be made fresh (including the chopping and shredding of FRESH potatoes. Eggs are blah (I'm used to making my scrambled eggs with a little bit of milk and cheese and whipping them so they become nice and fluffy not hard and rubbery) Decent selection on drinks. They have a Cappchino but I'm sure its an instant one. After years of complaints they finnaly got around to fixing the north walkway that lifted up causing a lot of trips. In the end if you want a "real" breakfast come to elmers. If you want a real breakfast (notice no quotes) then fix it at home. read more

At first I thought this place was another Denny's but when they start serving you, it's a whole different story. Everyone is all smiles and waiting to serve you. The food itself was wonderful. I have never felt so welcomed to elmers till today I got Rooney care of quickly even if it was busy !! Dulce was very friendly and had an amazing smile on her face the moment I walked in the door my server taryn took very well care of me I am definitely coming back and letting my friends know this is the best restaurant. Until our daughter found out she had celiac's we went here at least twice a month!!! The lack of a star is only because of that! Can't go there anymore :( ..... We totally underestimated this place. In town for a soccer game, figured it was as good a place as any for breakfast. Not only was it an awesome Eggs Benedict (with avocado and tomatoes), my daughter was able to get a French dip at 10am. The food was really good. The place is run like a machine with teams of people swooping in to get you set up and clear tables. It was packed but no wait. Everyone working seemed happy and were genuinely friendly.
