I like this place. Nothing too complicated. Very friendly staff and very consistent food. The place can get a little busy and loud but the servers are quick and efficient. They never rush anyone out of their booths or tables. Rarely have to wait long. Food is very good quality. Always something interesting and innovative here. read more

Have been to this location several times and stopped by there on our way to the beach on Sunday (Father's Day). So glad we got there when we did because there was a large line waiting to get a seat when we left. There is nothing terrible special about the food or atmosphere here - pretty typical breakfast fare. The service was quick and efficient and everyone was very friendly. So I literally just ate here. 1: it took around forty minutes to get our food. 2: there was a LONG hair throughout my eggs. 3:after asking our waitress about it, she proceeds to tell me that the long hair in my egg is just the egg. I eat at this Elmers several times a week. It's my favorite Hillsboro restaurant. The first thing you see when you walk in the door is the smiling faces of the wait staff. They know me by name now and even know what my favorite drinks are. I can get anything on the menu any time of day. The food is very down home delishes and they have new food on the menu all the time so you never get bored with the choice's. My favorite breakfast is their strawberries crepes, yummy! I love their chicken fried steak with country gravy, their portions are huge but they do have a lighter fare for small eaters. I love the fact that this is an owner operated restaurant and she is on site most days and knows her regular's by name. read more

I have been coming here for all of my life, 30 years or so. The food is consistently good and they update and change the menu enough to always feel very current and new. I recently discovered they have a hidden lounge with video poker, which I sometimes like when I don't have the kids with me. Service is good and overall I can always expect a good meal. I've been to this restaurant 4 times and I've consistently disliked each food experience. Its customer core seems to be senior citizens which is often a red flag to me for the flavor of food being served. Considering the high cost of the food for what is served, I'm surprised so many choose to eat here. The majority of what I've tried seems to have a canned or chemical taste to it. So that food laden with butter taste would be okay if the butter actually tasted like real butter. This establishment feels like an old-timer's bland buffet disguised with servers and high prices instead of self-serve and has a cult following I can't seem to quite grasp. I'm far from being a sophisticated food snob, too. However, the staff was very friendly and the people in the diner seem to like what they are ordering. read more

I went Sunday evening ~ 5:30PM and ordered Biscuits & Gravy with bacon, Hash browns and eggs over easy. I opened my silverware packet and found white crud on the spoon. I set it aside to have it replaced. I forgot and the server never even noticed it. Good thing I didn't need it. The gravy is bland with no sausage bits and no salt. Tasteless. The biscuit (one) was rock hard on the bottom. Even with the gravy I had to press down so hard with the knife hit the plate hard when it cut and the biscuit almost went flying. The Hash Browns were warm and barely cooked. I know I should have asked for Extra Crispy and maybe they would have been cooked. The only redeeming food were the eggs. They were not overcooked or undercooked. I pushed my plate away and sat for 10 minutes before asking the busboy for my waitress. At least she was nice. I start at 20% for tips and go down from there. She ended up with 10%. Needless to say I won't be back. read more

Whats not to love about this place. Over all the years I have come here I have only had a handful of bad expereinces. This is usually because of poor service though and never because of the quality of the food served here. I agree with some reviewers on here when it comes to the wait on some things. But then again what do you expect with such a popular place sometimes it just takes a while when it comes to a Sunday morning breakfast so have some patience and if your food is mediocre then send it back. Overall still a great place to go when it comes to a early morning or late breakfast. read more

Ive worked in so many bars and restaurant's, enough to know that this was insane. I told my waitress about a hair in my food, it looked like a nose hair, and it was basically insinuated that I put it there, when she tried to joke about how embarrassing shedding hair in public is. Once she realized I wasn't trying to create banter with her, she made a questioning face as she was grabbing the plate, but I still asked her if I would receive a replacement dish. She glared at me, basically questioning me with her eyes. This is definitely the last time I eat at this location. If you're wondering, I wasn't ever offered a replacement meal, and I didn't have any intention to even eat a replacement dish... Being a waitress is hard enough, but not caring altogether is a whole different story. read more

Probably one of the WORST Elmer's locations. Over 1hr wait for breakfast for 2. Food wasn't even hot as if it was sitting before they brought it. Told manager she absolutely did nothing about it, did even offer compensation for wasted time and not so great food. Every visit service gets worse, but it is the closest location so I figure I might as well try. Also, never order Togo because either the phones don't work or they'll forget half of your order. read more

My partner and I look so forward to our Friday nights. After a long week working hard its our night out for dinner and unwinding, catching up and making plans. Its very important to us the atmosphere as well as the quality of the menu. We always find ourselves choosing Elmer's in Hillsboro. Yes we have ventured out and tried some of the places in and arround Hillsboro but we always come right back to Elmer's. Yes the food is good and reliable, but what is most important is our server for almost two years Sonoma has given us the best dinning experince not found anywhere else even more expensive fine dinning. She makes the lounge shine with all her enthusiam not just with us but how she engages so warmly with everyone in the room, which has brought some of us to become close aquantences who look forward to our time with each other. I as someone who once owned her own resrurant thought someone should know what a great complement she is to this estalishment. Other than family like I had representing me she makes it feel like a family when she is there. We really love feeling at home and like we are special. It just wouldn't be the same without her. Stopped in was pretty slow ordered breakfast my toast was hard and cold and one of the slices was the heal cold dry hard toast. Eggs had runny whites (yuck). Hash browns were excellent as was the bacon. read more

Nice place, I had eggs and hushbrowns with added peppers and onions that the server suggested. Very good. Food was a little slow, but the server kept bringing us water. I saw that they have a "light menu" that people of all ages can order. I would go back. read more

My boyfriend and I come here every once and while for breakfast and bloody Mary's. Sanoma and Salvador make the best bloody Mary's, seriously the best I've ever had! Not only are the drinks great, the service is wonderful and after we order we receive our meal in minutes. Sanoma and Salvador have such amazing personalities and it makes the experience even better. We enjoy ordering breakfast for dinner on occasion, and Elmer's does an incredible job with their eggs, They are always done exactly as we ordered them, no matter what time of day it is, or how busy they are. The food is served hot, and the servers are very friendly. One of the managers, Kari, is always extremely professional and helpful. We've watched her interact with the customers, and she makes everyone feel special. All in all, this Elmer's location does a great job! read more

1.0 star rating 1/11/2015 My husband, step-son and I met my sister-in-law and her husband for breakfast yesterday, and let me tell you this place was horrific! The coffee was bottom of the pot sledge! My husband and I both used at least 3 creamers and still couldn't choke this crap down! When the food finally arrived, it looked good, but that was the only good part about it! Our omelets had soooo many onions we had to pick them out, I like onions, but not that much! My step-son's skillet arrived with a huge black hair on the serving plate!! It was really busy, so all I wanted was to get out of this horrible place and not wanting to embarrass my in-laws I just thought I'd call later and talk to the manager, which I did, she was apologetic and offered me 2 free meals, I told her that hardly comps a $63 tab, she said she would talk to the owner and get back to me, which hasn't happened. We will NEVER go to this restaurant again!!! Also, I will make sure I tell everyone who will listen how bad this place is!!!!!!! read more

The fruit waffle was pretty tasty however I gave a two star because the manager, Bob, was pretty unprofessional. He was talking to a worker about a mistake at the front desk. I understand restaurants are fast paced but it was pretty slow at the time and I'm pretty sure he could have at least talked to the worker in the kitchen. I found out the worker was pretty new. Sometimes I wonder how people make it to manager when they have no clue how to talk to people. I was thinking about this incident all day and Bob seems to be super nice to customers so why not treat employees with the same respect. ok so restaurants want to portray a certain image and make customers happy but I think a time has come that restaurants understand that workers should be treated just as well as customers. Workers are not "cogs in a machine" as Dr. Metzger would say. People are not commodities. People have feelings. Bob, no one is perfect, not even you and especially someone training at a new job. definitely let the person know how to fix the mistake and add in something positive. Ask the person how you can help them and hear what they have to say....not in front of customers. the person may need time to process. read more

This would have been a 3 star review, as the food was OK, the ambiance OK etc. BUT here's what killed the whole deal. After my wife and I got served, we ate, then waited for our dessert which was included in the special. And we waited, and we waited. for literally 30 minutes we sat there in amazement while our waitress BSed with some friends of hers who came in. Normally we would have spoken up, but we just got entranced, as to how long it would take for our presence as mere mortals to be acknowledged. My wife was a waitress in a fisherman's bar for 12 years, I leave the tip amount etc up to her. As you can guess this was a big fat zero. Finally the waitress strolls over and says "Do you want your dessert now, or would you like to take it home?" I told her to keep it (never know if that is going to come with spit in it), and just bring us our check. I turned in a customer survey card detailing the problem, but I guess those are used to line someones bird cage, as I never heard back in any way. If I were starving and this were the only place open, I'd wait. Not ever going to go back. read more
