This place is always great to come to for breakfast. Servers are amazing and sweet. Just like their sweet tea which is on point! I'm definitely a regular there. My family and I are totally hooked! I discovered Enchiladas Y Mas (we call it EYM) probably about 15 years ago and have been a regular ever since. It is great Tex Mex food and even greater (strong) margaritas. Then about six years ago my sister and BIL moved back to Austin, and we started going regularly. They were a little turned off that the place is a dive (I personally love dives!) and the menu is limited. So we have tried and tried and tried and tried to find another hangout, but nothing we can find in North Austin can compare to EYM. While the menu is limited, the food is excellent as are the margaritas, and the price CANNOT be beat. Now my sister and BIL are worse than I am - I told my sister the other day that I had created monsters out of her and her hubby! It is difficult to write this review as I have spoken the praises of EYM for years and brought in new customers continuously for many years. I am a regular, but now frustrated. My girlfriend and I were visiting Fredericksburg on Saturday, August 27th and decided to go out for Mexican. I said we can make it to before 8:45PM as they close at 9:00PM. We passed many restaurants along the way and could have gone anywhere else, but no we were going to EYM. We pulled into the parking lot at 8:40PM and the Open Sign was in the window as a couple had just gone in and were seated. We walked into the door at 8:42PM and were told we are closed. I explained I am a regular customer and we just drove all the way from Fredericksburg to eat at EYM. We knew what we wanted and were ready to order and still told we are closed even though the sign said open and the website said 9:00PM. I explained this over and over to the woman. The young man who usually waits on me hung his head and walked away as the lady would not allow us to order even to go. He knew she was wrong and couldn't even stand there. I grew up in Crestview way before EYM existed. I cannot believe they would not allow us to sit down or even place a to go order at 8:42PM. This is terrible. It's hard to believe I recommend EYM to everyone, eat their regularly and get treated like this. If you close at 8:42 put it on your website and turn the sign at the front. Don't turn us away when everything says your open. This is "Terrible" customer service. It's going to be difficult to go back and I can't endorse EYM any longer. Visited during covid. The wait wasn't bad at all. Expected the tables to be a little cleaner and the staff to be wading masks correctly. I know, I know, my risk - BUT still!! First time here. This is one of those places that one hears about but never goes to because the idea of a wait seems boring. Well, with a bar that serves margaritas that are better than some of margaritas I have had at a certain restaurant that I check into often the wait is nothing. The servers are friendly and it seems like everyone there knows everyone there. I love that about a place. The menu selection is simple and easy to understand and I love that the onions on the enchiladas are regular not extra. The meal was great, the drinks amazing, and the service wonderful. Since they've changed management the food has gone down a little. Do t get me wrong, still like the fajitas but the beans and rice sucked.

I will always love this restaurant and the food here. However, the new owners and staff have stopped allowing customers to order drinks from the bar and do not seat incomplete parties like in the past. The margaritas have always been some of the best in austin but now taste watered down and contain less alcohol. Oh, I could just cry! Have been coming here since they were on I35 in the 90s. I thought I would give it a third but last try since they closed for months then Covid hit. From the too salty chips to the dry as a bone and too peppery chicken fajitas with no redemption from dry rice and beans and tortillas, the food was horrible. It use to be the best Tex-Mex around. Rating 1.5 stars, so I bumped it up to 2. Horrible margaritas. Yes they are strong, but yuck. Who uses Sauza for a Top Shelf margarita. I also ordered a chicken fajita quesadilla. This was almost inedible. The meat was overly salted and the cheese was inline with government cheese. Which is a step down from Velveeta. Also, do not side under the air conditioning ducts, because they drip. That is why the tables on the right (when you walk in) against the wall always have water on them. read more

I ordered the Enchiladas Rancheros to-go. I must say that I was disappointed because I heard great things about this restaurant but the flavor doesn't stack up to the hype. The beans are 100% out of a can and it's obvious!!! The enchiladas were just ok, the cheese leaves something to be desired. There's a lot of Mexican/TexMex food in ATX that are far better than this, at the same time there's lots of restaurants that are far worse, I guess you can say that Enchiladas Y Mas is the most average TexMex in Austin. We went on a Friday night after 8 pm so it was buzzin. We had to wait about 20-30 minutes for a table. I have always liked that this place is popular all on its own without the hype. Has been in business in Austin for years but has a reputation for good food and margaritas. We got the queso to start and it was better than most I've experienced at Tex Mex restaurants. I ordered chicken enchiladas as my main course and it was extremely tasty and came out quickly. My partner got Comida regularr for dinner. Both dishes come out with fresh flour tortillas and are excellent! We were both left licking our plates. The only thin left to be desired is the size of the restaurant and restrooms. I've been here around a dozen times now. This is the place my husband has picked for his "Birthday" and we go a few times outside of that a year. This place gets extremely busy around lunch time. Be prepared to possibly not find parking if you go during peak hours. We try and go around 1-2 and the parking lot is still pretty busy. The building is definitely an old building that is getting run down, but it's worth going in side :) Just don't forget, they are closed on Mondays! Once they seat you, they will bring chips and salsa. I really enjoy their salsa, its a cooked down salsa that's actually spicy. My husband prefers raw salsa, but still enjoys theirs a lot, especially due to the spice. I enjoy this type, it doesn't give me heartburn like raw salsa does. The margaritas are very good and strong! Better than most places I've been to. They have a limit as to how many you can have, depending on whether you are or aren't eating food. They are aware, their drinks are strong ^.^ If it was up to my husband it would be a 5 star review, his words "best enchiladas around". Over the years I've tried enchiladas, soft tacos (couple times with different meats), flautas, and fajitas salad (a couple times). When I had the flautas, I think maybe I just happened to order them on an off day, it was overfried, I don't know. The enchiladas are decent, but please be ready for LOTS AND LOTS of cheese. It was too much cheese for me which is why I don't order them, but my husband loves them! The soft tacos are fine, I don't order them anymore but that's because I make my own at home lol. By far my favorite is the fajitas salad, though please keep in mind it's a meat plate with some lettuce. The meat is good, you can get beef, chicken or combo. And unlike a few other places in town, Enchiladas Y Mas has not tripled their prices. Enchiladas Y Mas used to be a Sunday tradition when I was first dating my wife. She had been coming here for years, and I don't even know the Chinese place that used to be here. For some reason, it fell out of our rotation. I read reviews that it's "not the same", and I was a bit worried. But since Phillip B. still loves this place, we had to give it a try. If you pay close attention, you see the ballet of sorts the staff does. Hostess intercepts you at the door, grabs your menus and drops you off at a table. Before you can even blink, another staffer has come up and is asking for your drink order. I swear after we ordered (me: a potato-egg-cheese, and a bacon-egg-cheese breakfast taco, and the wife a beef taco on crispy shell) I didn't even have time to check in before our food walked up. This place has always defined ooey-gooey Tex-Mex to me, dripping in way more than a sprinkle of glorious cheese of unknown origin. It's like if you took Fonda San Miguel and held it up to a fun house mirror.... In a good way. The bacon on my taco was not chopped up and dumped into the eggs (the way I hate) but instead one large crispy strip. I'll leave the yummy shredded potatoes to be described by Jenny L's previous review. This is the neighborhood place that every neighborhood should have. It reminded me of a family reunion, where I don't really remember which aunt that is, but am just glad she doesn't pinch my cheek anymore. Everyone came in happy, and chatting, and left even happier. That may be because even before noon, there sure were a lot of margaritas being served. The older ladies, in their Sunday dresses, carefully drinking their margaritas and having a boisterous conversation; the family chowing down on their enchiladas, who had quickly replaced the other folks that had devoured their tacos when we had our backs turned... I can't believe I forgot to update this. I'm sooooo upset over my last experience here. My mom and I like to get an enchilada a piece and then share fajitas for one. So that's what we ordered. She asked if we wanted the enchiladas on one plate or two....we said two. She said..."OK" and that's all. Then we get the check....and we've been charged extra for getting the enchiladas on separate plates. Yeah, you read that right....had we gotten the enchiladas on one plate, and separated them ourselves, we would have saved more than $2. The waitress hands us the check and explains this. Why she didn't mention it before is beyond me. She said it was because they put extra sauce on the plates when the enchiladas are on one plate, so they charge more. I'm fairly certain their sauce is Wolf Brand Chili...and I could have bought two cans of it for the up charge! So, I asked, very nicely, if they can drop the extra charge this time since we weren't made aware when we ordered. Had we been told, we would have ordered them on the same plate. She said that she already asked the manager that and she said no....and that she (our waitress) was sorry. So we ask to speak to the manager. She gives us the same speech, and we tell her we'd appreciate it if she'd drop the charge since we weren't told about it. She said no. My mom was fuming at this point. That was when she said, "I'll never come back here!" So....I call the manager back over as we're paying....and I gave her a little advice. This is almost verbatim what I said: "We will not be coming back to your restaurant, ever, which is sad because we really enjoy your food. So because of a $2 charge that you could have dropped, you're losing any amount of money that we would have spent here in the future. The correct response in this situation would have been for you to say sorry for not letting us know about the charge when we ordered, and dropping it for this time. That's how you should have handled this." She just stared at me like a deer in the headlights, and we have not (and will not) return. read more

North Austin's go-to Tex-Mex dive is clearly Enchiladas Y Mas. Almost the entire place will be filled with regulars. Get there early for a parking place and a table. If you arrive after 11:30 am or 6:00 pm, you will be lucky to park in the lot and not wait for a table. It is the perfect price for value restaurant with friendly, helpful service with many of the staff from the owners' families. They are very willing to help with your order, customize your dish, and find value in the menu. Believe me, you will get plenty to eat. On one occasion my waiter asked me if I would like my fajitas "regular or spicy"? Why not, "I'll have the spicy". After crying through half of my first fajita, I discovered that he had substituted serranos for the bell peppers. Wow, too much for this gringo. The other day, we were offered "regular or spicy" salsa. You got it, we thought we were tough Texans, let's go for the spicy. Sometimes the staff is irritable - noticeably irritable. 2. Nothing besides the fajitas stands out to me. That being said, I haven't sampled a huge amount of things on their menu as they seem to feature lots of cheese. Cheese and I don't get along. My Austinite friend suggested I try out Enchiladas Y Mas, so for lunch one day, my boyfriend and I decided to get a late lunch (3 PM) there. The wait time was minimal--probably less than 10 min--but the fact that we had to wait when it was such an awkward time speaks to how good this place is. I've never really gotten Mexican food since my mom refuses to eat at any restaurant that's not Asian, but my boyfriend has family in El Paso so his standards were pretty high. We were surprised in the best way. The chips and salsa were delightfully spicy. And after talking to the waitress, who was very nice, I decided to get the chicken enchiladas with ranchero sauce and my boyfriend got a beef taco and the beef enchilada plate. Been here twice and have yet to have a good experience. First time I came in with 5 of my coworkers, they were going to close in 40 minutes and the waitress let us know that when we walked in. We told her it was fine, & I guess she might have had plans after work because her facial expression and service after that was not pleasant at all. How do you run out of refried beans and rice in a Tex-Mex restaurant? The service after that didn't get any better and the food was not great at all. At the end they did not want to split our bill, I don't understand why they wouldn't ask if we were paying separate or together when placing the orders. I then decided to give this place a second chance. Months later I came in with my husband and I ordered fajita nachos, I mean you can never go wrong with nachos. Right? WRONG! They brought in this plate with a hard shell tortilla with beans smothered and some nasty looking cheese with the most inedible "fajita". How can they fuck up fajita nachos is beyond me! The beef tasted like they had added bbq sauce and the big chunks were hard to chew. Last week, my husband and I decided that we didn't have it in us to make dinner. We looked at each other, tossed out a few local standby options, and then he had the bright idea to check out Enchiladas y Mas. Every time we drive by, we're amazed by the hordes of people waiting for tables and mentally flag it as a restaurant on our must-try list. Off we went, hoping that the line wouldn't be too crazy. After a mercifully short wait, we were shown to our table. Ambiance is definitely not the focus at Enchiladas y Mas. It's pretty bare bones with fluorescent lighting and 80s era lattice work around the perimeter. I kind of liked the neighborhood-y, not-trying-hard vibe as a change of pace from the beautiful-verging-on-overworked Michael Hsu-designed spaces that are taking over Austin. I could have done without the dining patron behind me who oozed alcoholic sweat, but I know that wasn't the fault of the Enchiladas y Mas crew. In fact, the service was very welcoming - they treated us like regulars from the get-go. We had read up on what to order, so we stuck with the namesake enchiladas. I made a rookie mistake, however, by getting the enchiladas con queso. This avowed cheese lover was pushed to the limit with cheese-filled enchiladas topped with queso topped with more cheese. They should really be called enchiladas de queso con queso con queso. Ooph. Fortunately, my partner ordered better, sticking with the Comida Regular which included enchiladas with a better proportion of cheese to other ingredients. Despite a few hiccups with our meal, we both agreed that we will return to partake in the fajitas and margaritas, which looked like super-popular picks as we watched tray after tray arrive at the tables around us. read more

Someone on reddit described EyM as "velveeta mex" and I couldn't have said it better myself. Think of classic tex mex restaurants with chupa chups and pecan pralines by the cash register, "chalupas" that are just upside down taco salad shells smothered in queso, plates that have just come out of the salamander so hot they are lethal to the touch. The margaritas should come with a warning they're so strong, the salsa too but it burns so good. Don't worry, they'll bring out a mild version if you ask. I love how small and cramped and sweaty it gets inside, not to mention the prices feel classic too with enormous portions. A truly unique Austin institution. I love all the food at Enchiladas y Mas. The frozen margaritas are good. Watch out! They're a family owned business with a large group of regulars. I normally order the chicken fajita tacos on corn. The servings are large, and I always take home leftovers. I do love the cheese enchiladas tambien. Sometimes the service can be sketchy. It depends on your server.
