I'm all for fine dining but after you pay $282.00 for dinner and a couple of drinks, you shouldn't leave thinking about how much better your meals have been elsewhere for under $100.00. The food was good, it just wasn't the best I've had in Memphis and for that price, it should have been. Food was very nice and in a satisfying amount. They offer a small piece of homemade bread and this was very good. The sauce for the salads we had was a bit too sweet for me. The building feels a bit old inside but ambiance is still nice, with several rooms and a lot of small tables placed in a way you forget your surroundings. Finally, the service is efficient and helpful when you seek more information on the menu. Seems like a great place to celebrate events or just to enjoy nice food for a date. read more

Haven't been there in over a year and noticed they were selling Beef Bourguignon. I've only had it once - one of the best meals of my life, in Paris. I have been to EJ's numerous times and have always been impressed with their service and the quality of the food. When I think about EJ's, I think about a chef and kitchen staff that love to cook. I have never been to this restaurant when Chef Jensen did not come out at least twice during our meal to greet every single table. The quality of service doesn't stop there. Most recently I had a special request for the chef, and my partner and I were beyond impressed. It was a tour de force that exceeded my expectations. Again, it seems to me that these are all folks that love food and love their jobs. In addition to the service, the excellence of EJ's extends (very clearly) to their food. I have never had a bad dish--whether it be an evening seated at the bar or a dinner in the main dining room. We had a server, female, Russian, I think her name was Yans. She was perfect. The food was great. It was as I said, a Sunday evening and we ordered off the pri fixe menu. Three courses for $45.00. That is a real deal. I ordered the scallops as my main course and they were perfectly cooked. Paired perfectly with green beans and risotto. I've been to Erling Jensen's several times before, especially for the scrumptious bison burger (particularly when they used to do their half off special on Wednesdays). Though they don't do their special anymore (or at least last I checked they didn't), the restaurant is a lovely place to eat with absolutely delicious dishes. In general - you really can't go wrong here. However, I had one of the most wonderful experiences I've ever had at a restaurant before here at Erling Jensen's. My husband contacted the restaurant ahead of time to see if they could emulate our wedding menu in order to celebrate our first anniversary, and I was thoroughly impressed. Chef Keith and Erling put together an amazing dinner that both tasted great and brought back all of the feels from the food at our wedding. It was absolutely fantastic, and I could barely eat anymore by the end of the meal. Both chefs also came out several times to check in and see how things were. It's these small touches, which in the end are really big, that matter. On top of good food, when you feel welcomed, it just makes everything better. We went here as a part of an interview dinner and my husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Antelope was on the menu the night we went and one of our friends tried it and absolutely loved it. My salmon was the best I've tasted so far- ever. There were about 10 different components on my plate. With spiralized beets and some edible flowers on a bed of pesto pasta. Delicious!!!!! They also brought out little tasting spoons of a butternut squash salad that was just delicious. Save some space for dessert because every single one on the menu was astounding especially the chocolate one. The prices are steep for sure but definitely worth a visit. This review is for the Chef's tasting menu-don't get it-if you are going to eat at Erling, eat off the menu. I was incredibly disappointed with the tasting menu. The foie gras wasn't seared enough, the charred Romaine was very good. The shrimp dish sauce was excellent but the one shrimp was a bit over cooked. The Lamb was terrible-it was chewy and tough to eat. All of the portions were enough for me but very very small, which is not how Erling portion are usually. I was super excited to go and was terribly disappointed in my choice. I'll go back once my entertainment funds build back up-but I will definitely order off the menu read more

This place is definitely off the beaten path. Perfect for an intimate, romantic dinner. Everyone was pretty spaced apart and created a very special environment to truly enjoy your meal. I had the March 2021 chefs tasting menu accompanied by the wine pairings. The tasting menu and wines were amazing. So many delicate and flavorful bites with each course. The portions were very generous and I was surprised at the speed and perfection with which we were served. The highlight of the night was definitely as follows: walnut bread with butter, seabass with the grilled lemon and rosemary cream, and the chocolate soufflé. Out server, Rachel, was amazing. Very friendly and provided exceptional service. She appreciated the food and was spot on with each course. We never waited more than a few minutes in between courses but it was not rushed either. Delicious and been a favorite special dining night for 20 years. This last time the food was just as good as ever but the service, while efficient, was a bit cold and inattentive. They will always hold a special place in our hearts for the snowy night that they remained open though! If you haven't been here, you aren't serious about great local food/service. This was my sixth visit. We did Sunday Supper a week ago that was fantastic and the best value for the quality and service in the city. If you are worried about dining on a budget, you can on Sunday for $38=3 courses! And on Wednesday at the bar is great fun and you can affordably enjoy yourself--$7 bison burger and fries! Also on the last visit at the bar I had the duck confit pizza and it was amazing! Of course duck, a mild cheese caramelized onion and I think a tomato jam, topped with a bed of salad...delicious. The bar menu is a great peek into the quality of the full dining experience. We had dinner here to celebrate an anniversary a few weeks back, and we were really blown away by how awesome the experience was. Every single thing we ate was delicious, perfectly prepared and presented. Food and wine service was spot on. Not a step was missed. Exquisite, phenomenal, and [insert your choice of quintessential adjective here] !!! The service was excellent (way to go Micah!), The food was excellent, The wines were unusual and superb. We ordered their Friday Wine and Food Tasting Dinner (a prix fixe four- course journey that varies each week), and were exceptionally pleased at the quality and diversity of the courses. The wines in the Wine Dinner are not usually listed in their wine list. The wine flight was an adventure reminiscent of several treks through the wines of France that I have been on, except more global in scope. a Kuentz Bas from France (Alsace), a Pinot Noir from Germany (Rheinhessen), a Chenin Blanc from South Africa (Western Cape) ,and a Malbec from Argentina (Valle de Uco, Mendoza) were the featured stops on tonight's tour. The food tasting portion of the journey included: Diver Scallops with Crisp Pork Belly, Espresso rubbed Brine Berkshire Pork Loin, Akaushi Striploin, and Almond Red Griotte Tart with a Nutmeg Streusel. Awesome just barely scratches the surface of how great everything was. John, the sommelier, introduced each of wines served with the courses. He was an amazing fount of knowledge and could readily discuss just about anything pertaining to the wines of the evening, or the wine list. He filled in many gaps for me here and there during our discussions throughout the evening (I had lots of questions for him!). I had no idea, until tonight, that Germany actually produces a Pinot Noir. It was much lighter than the typical Pinot Noir's and was exceptional, and was exceptionally well-paired with the Pork Loin course. We ended our journey with some wonderful coffee and and I indulged in a glass of cognac. For cordials, they have a robust menu of choices .They have a port flight of 4 different ports, as well as an excellent choice of Cognacs (Remy, Courvoisier, Martell), VSOPs as well as XO's, and even Remy's renowned Louis XIII !), as well as several Armagnacs. I chose the Courvoisier XO for this evening. It was nice to see several other patrons also enjoying cordials, as it almost seems a lost tradition these days. Just had my 40th bday dinner with my big sis and it was a great meal and ambience. I had the Friday wine dinner special that is paired with different fabulous wines for each dish. We started with jumbo crab in hollandaise sauce. It was good but nothing special. Next time I'm getting fois gras or escargot. Next started the four dishes from part of the wine dinner, including a scallop starter, duck pappardelle, and Wagyu steak. The crepe cake desert was to die for. Overall, great meal but would recommend my sisters rack of lamb dish because it was the most flavorful dish and beautifully presented. One little complaint that can be seen as being snotty is that a customer sat next to us in a frumpy t shirt and shorts and it ruined the ambience and the special fine dining event that my sister paid good mine for...so, with that said, there's no dress code but wish there was. read more

Whoa! I was completely blown away by this place in every aspect! Came here for m'lady's bday dinner and both of us were extremely satisfied (since she currently works at folks folly, she doesn't often give a fine dining restaurant credit where it's due because she's pretty biased!). Erling, who is the owner (big surprise) and head chef, came out twice to greet/talk to us and ask if we needed anything else, which was pretty neat. I got the asparagus salad to start and the ostrich (see picture) as my entreé and had it cooked medium rare, albeit I normally stay around medium. Oh my lawd it was just unbelievably delicious. At first I was scared the ostrich was going to leave my plate, but all was ok when I took that first bite.
