Unicorn fail! We provided a picture of exactly what we wanted that included pastel colors such as pink, purple, and so on. We contacted them and were informed they failed to copy the colors we provided them. Instead of having good quality customer service they insisted nothing was wrong with the cake. For the life of me I cannot understand why Ernies does not have more or better reviews. They have great pastries and frankly if you are looking for a custom cake for half the price of other bakeries in town you should stop by Ernies. In recent years i have seen the business at Ernie's slow down but for now this place doesn't show any sign of closing it's doors. Ernies has been a part of the Eastside Fresno community for as long as I can remember. As other businesses have come and gone Ernies's has remained Steady.They are located in a small older building right on Kings Canyon next to a nail shop. If you blink you will likely miss it. The people working in the bakery seem to remain pretty consistent as well. Every time I go into Ernies there is one of two girls standing behind the counter which is pretty great considering the girls are always pleasant. As for the products, I love Ernies donuts. Are they the best I have had? No but they are some of the best in Fresno. I for one love their chocolate on Chocolate cake donuts. The ply me with enough sugar and energy in the morning to get on everyone's nerves at work. I also usually buy birthday cakes/party cakes from Ernie's. They are able to create amazing cake with buttercream frosting that are moist, tasty and inexpensive. I will say that I would not buy a wedding cake or cake for any other super fancy event from here because they are limited in the things that they can do (design wise). However, if I want a fun cake for a baby shower or graduation or birthday party then Ernie's is my go to bakery. Frankly, Ernies epitomizes Old school bakeries. before there were cake bosses and cake wars there were the the Ernie's of the world. Went in at around 9am on a Saturday and tried their "Hot" breakfast croissant. Welp, it was definitely not hot. I was given a cold croissant and the young lady who helped me didn't even offer to warm it up. Her attitude was not very friendly either. We ordered a chocolate cake here for my boyfriends sons birthday. The quality of the decoration was great the caked looked very nicely done but the cake itself was not good, pretty dry and tasteless. The frosting was really thick, dried up and too sweet. We bought cupcakes from foodmaxx last minute and everyone preferred and complimented the cupcakes instead. If you want a cake just for presentation purposes without paying so much I would highly recommend them, but if you're trying to enjoy eating it too, probably not. read more

This place is awesome! I've been eating there pastries at family events since I was a little kid and now I'm 26. I ordered my daughters birthday cake February 13th and they went above and beyond my expectations the taste of the cake was so so delicious I ordered a white cake half pineapple and half strawberry, so fresh and moist! I actually just placed a order over the phone in hopes that I could get a Father's Day cake made for tomorrow. I honestly didn't expect for them to make room for me but they did! Ordered a custom made cake and will pick up tomorrow to save for Sunday! Due to the fact that the bakery is closed on sundays. The service was good and they delivered on most of what I had hoped for. The cake appeared exactly as requested. Beautify done, very detailed. I have no complaint on that. But when it came to tasting... Let's just say it looked much better than its flavor. It was just bland, and a bit of a disappointment. I'd give them another chance, maybe it was just a one time issue. I know these things happen from time to time and hopefully my next order the taste will equal the presentation. Customer service was ok. It wasn't like exceptionally out of this world great. I went in and looked at some photos of cake, selected this cake and place my order 5 days in advance and that was including a holiday in between the 5 days. Paid half price in order to place my order. They charged me a fee of $1.92 on top of that for using visa debit/credit card without notifying me in advance prior to ringing me up that I would have to pay for processing fee for using a bank card. So when I had my husband picked up the cake later on that week, I had given him the remainder of the balance in cash. The cake looked nice. I had order marble on top tier and chocolate on bottom tier. Taste wise, it was ok. The cake was dry and not moist. The icing in between the cake was sweet and thick. I love Ernies bakery, they made this beautiful unicorn cake for my grand daughter yesterday, it was beautiful as you can see and it tasted soo good, fresh ingredients, made from scratch. Everyone wanted to know where I got it because it was delicious, the bottom layer was strawberry swirl cake and top layer was banana nut cake. We've been going here since 1999 but not anymore!! Called from out of town to order a cake for my daughter's birthday and was told they won't accept my order over the phone. The rude girl that answered my call said that they do not accept payment over the phone so we have to come in to order... kind of impossible if you live out of town, so she said flat out no, and hung up. Not "let me talk to the manager" or "is there something else we can do" or anything that even resembled good customer service; just flat out rudeness and hung up. Okay this Bakery has the absolute best butter rum frosting with the banana nut cake that you can ever have any time anywhere that's been my favorite cake since I was a little girl and you will not find one any taste better Els in Fresno or Clovis. A lot of people have stopped making the Butter Rum but Ernie's has continued to make it and it's just absolutely amazing and I look forward every year to my birthday even though I'm getting older too enjoy that cake that's the special point of my day, every time I've been in there I've had good service there's probably a few bad apples at every place you go but at that point that I do get one I'll make sure I review them about it. First visit here and when I came in, employee was waiting on another customer. No greeting or the slightest acknowledgement that I was there. Not necessary but always nice. Rang up the customer ahead of me who then remained in the store. However, instead of waiting on me, she started straightening up displays in a case that was not where I was waiting. The other customer (who it appeared she knew) then called out that he wanted a soda and she immediately responded to him that she would get one for him. At that point, I asked if she could get a manager or someone else to help me as it was evident she wasn't going to do it. She refused to get the person in charge and continued to be rude to me and make excuses. Needless to say, I left without purchasing the cookies I had come in to buy. Even though their pastries were good, they're service sucked. I ordered a cake 3 week in advanced. I wanted to get it out of the way since I was super busy with other arrangements for my daughter's party. It took them about 5 days to call me back and tell me that they were going to be closed for the day of my party and will be closed for the whole week and that I needed to come in to get a refund. (I was already irritated with them because when I called for pricing they didn't give me the correct info from when I actually placed the order.) So when I walked in, they took my card for a refund (still not apologizing) I asked them if they can print my daughter's picture on edible paper to take somewhere else, they told me it will take 30 mins, I didn't mind waiting. After about 25 or 30 mins they came out and told me it was $8, I refused to pay because of the inconvenience, the owner didn't care and still wouldn't give it to me. I will not never order from them again. Sorry Ernie' s you suck at apologizing and suck at service. Please find a better way to make your customers happy. read more

Been going here since I can remember...now Im a mom and get my birthday cakes for my children. I called to place an order for a cake and was told they cant take orders for anything larger than a 1/4 sheet. Had to go in and order and leave a deposit. They are a family owned business, so I respect why they want a deposit before a large order is taken. My experience was great! Sad to see the bakery has some unfavorable reviews. They have always gone above and beyond for me and my family (we dont personally know them either). I always make sure their head decorator does all my cakes since they have another girl in training and I wasnt very happy with her work. The head decorator fixed the issues and I left happy. Went to this place for some pies for a baby shower, she didn't want cake. It's hard to find a homemade pie place here in the valley that ISNT Marie Callenders. I called ahead to inquire about what they offered, a nice woman informed me that they sold fruit pies, including the boysenberry I was looking for. Went in the next day, saw some pies displayed and they looked delicious. Placed an order for 2 boysenberry and 2 cherry. Picked up the morning of the event and they were a huge success! You could taste the freshness and I could tell they would homemade and made THAT MORNING! The crust was perfect and had sugar on top, yum! The filling was excellent; not to sweet and tasted like real fruit not canned. I paid $30 and I will definitely be back to order even more pies for my wedding. Customer service was great and product was great, that gets 5 stars from me! Added bonus is that this is a LOCAL business that has been around for years! read more

This bakery was upsetting! I understand their late policy! However, I was not 15 or 20 mins late. I was only 2 minutes late, yet when I arrived the business was closed. Lights off. Parking lot empty. I'm sure that they closed the business before closing time because you cannot close a business in two minutes, pack up, and leave the parking lot that fast! Moreover, I even called the place saying I was gonna be 2 mins late late, according to my GPS because their happened to be a HUGE accident and traffic was terrible! I traveled 1 hour and half just for this cake, yet I received NO CAKE! It's super upsetting for them to just waste a cake away of all their hard work and effort. read more
