Delightful! I thought it would be a sit down with full service although you order at the front and they bring your food to the table. I ordered the beef cheek panini and it was delicious! The beef was super tender and JUICY. Warning: this sandwich is a mess but so worth it. The panini is on a delicious large ciabatta roll, slightly too much bread to meat ratio but the ciabatta is good so didn't bother me much. It was complimented with pickled onions, a little horseradish (even if you're sensitive to spice it's not bad), and arugula. I got both the panini and a glass of Pinot Grigio for $20. Stopped in for a drink and a snack. Got the body phosphates which were nice. Love the fresh flavors soda they have. Got the spices pear and burnt banana. The spiced pear tasted a bit licorice like because the pear was overwhelmed. The banana was super strong but regardless both were good. Got the oxtail poutine to share. Great food. Great people. They have Malort! Check out what you get on Thursdays (sometimes it's free paella or ceviche with a purchase of a drink). Interesting place! I had never been to a tapas place where you order at a counter. I appreciated the casual atmosphere because I was in the mood for some good Italian food but in a low key environment. My husband and I had the bacon and squid skewers, arancini, eggplant bruschetta, duck fingers, and carbonara. The bacon and squid skewers were good but they were a disappointment when it came to quality. Old Yelp photos (which I'd looked at before coming in) reveal that they used to use entire pieces of thick cut bacon on a skewer. We got some sad little squares of thin bacon. It's like when you buy a Big Mac at McDonald's and it looks nothing like how it's advertise on TV. (At least that's what I hear about Big Macs. I've never had one.) The arancini were pretty good and I enjoyed the super smokey paprika in it. The eggplant bruschetta was OK but greasy. The duck fingers were over fried but still tasty with the sweet glaze. The carbonara was really good and I had been craving pasta for weeks so it really hit the spot. I loved the bacon bits, the creamy yolk sauce -- everything. What a great little lunch spot in Fremont! Their fish & chips were delicious for being gluten free. Their house made ketchup that they served with was delicious too, definitely had a spicy kick but totally worth it. My mom also enjoyed her panini. I love all of the gluten free options that they offer and the price point is very reasonable. Our cocktails were also very good. Well balanced and interesting combinations. I also took a peek at their bottles to go (or drink there) and was very impressed with their selection. Some of their prices were even cheaper than some of the wineries (if you took the bottle to go). I would love to go back soon. read more

I came in this place in the afternoon(before happy hour started). I did not expect to find a "casual" Italian restaurant in Seattle,but here it was, in the middle of Wallingford. The store look kind of hidden,but actually very easy to find. I came in and we were the only customer. I saw that they had many tapas(small dishes) so I wanted to try variety of things. It was actually expensive for the portion you get(realized that after I got the food), so would only recommend if you come here for happy hour(discounts on Tapa items and drinks). I ordered the squid skewers and the fried cheese potato balls. It was great but the portion was small. They gave us free potato fries with homemade ketchup. It was good but nothing too special. The porchetta panini is amazing, pretty much have it every time I go in. But I really have to give this place huge praise for the seasonality of the menu! Tonight I had the summer squash which just tasted like a summer garden. Welcome addition is also baby squid with bacon.....on a stick....cauliflower fritters. So simple and delicious. There are many more things I want to try on the menu! Can't wait to go back. Finally I must mention the excellent drinks available. A newly opened family business serving tapas, beer, wine (an amazing collection bottles for sale, the name even comes from the chemical responsible for shaping wines smell and flavors!), and alcohols. Their menu covers a wide variety of things, something for everyone. The first time we came we had a few things most notably the chickpea cauliflower fritters, and the fries. I have not had fries this good in a long long time! It seems like something so simple we are served at many restaurants however we were reminded how amazing well done fries really can be. The vegan aioli that we asked for with them was also awesome! The second time I had the vegan braised tofu and yam sandwich and it was just as good. When I realized this place had espresso drinks instead of drip I asked about the London fog and the guy behind the counter wasn't familiar with the drink so I described it and he made it for me! It's such a delight to find a local, casual, friendly restaurant serving delicious food, beer and wine without breaking the bank. I've only had one visit to Ester's, and could not have enjoyed it more. The bucatini (pasta) with nettle and hazelnut pesto was way better than it should have been, and makes me want to work my way through the small but varied menu. Vegetarian friendly? Check. Meat eater friendly? Check. Good, local beers? Check. (Reuben's, Obec, Fremont Brewing, ...) Good wine? Check. They're an "enoteca", after all! Reasonable prices? Check. I can't wait to return, soon. I visited Ester's Enoteca during my 2-week trip to Seattle because of the gluten free options, and I HAD to come back a second time before I left for both the food and amazing service. I follow a low FODMAP diet for my gut issues, so in addition to cutting out gluten, I also can't have garlic/onions/shallot + a trillion other things, always making it difficult and/or flavorless to eat out. Their staff and chef (who was there to consult) were SUPER accommodating and I was able to truly feast without any worry that my food would make me sick. All of the dishes I had (gluten free pasta carbonara, fish & chips and arugula & potato salad) were well-made, fresh and delicious (+tummy friendly). Also, the gluten free pasta was so perfectly chewy and al dante - I seriously doubted whether my pasta was actually gluten free until my friends' gluten-laden pasta carbonara order came out with a different pasta shape. It was pretty busy at 6:30pm on a Friday (my table of 3 had to wait a little to snag a table that could fit us), but was on the emptier end on a holiday Monday (MLK, Jr. Day). Be sure to come here early on the weekend if you have a larger group! If I'm ever in Seattle again, I will NEED to come back! read more

Simply put: Great food at a great price in Fremont. I'm not aware of any other restaurant in the neighborhood that I can say that about. We have great and expensive. We have cheap and bad. I have been here once before I moved to Seattle and had a great experience. As I came in today, I ordered a grilled cheese. Since I don't live here, my card was declined and wouldn't work. As embarrassed and upset as I was, the man working was willing to pay for my meal. I have never experienced such great generosity from someone in my life. Met a friend for dinner and drinks. Odd experience walking in and not being acknowledged. Ordered kale salad, bacon wrapped dates and poutine. All tasty and good serving size. The service was not great. The person taking orders had not tasted many of the wines which seems odd at a wine bar. We had a rose and a chilean sauv blanc. Both tasty. We asked for another round of the rose and were served something that was much more of an orange wine. When we asked about it, the server argued with us. It was either not the same wine or a bad bottle, either way- good customer service would mean pouring us something else She also started cleaning the restaurant at least a half hour before closing.
