Beware the slimy business practices of this restaurant. I bought a gift card for my Mom as a Mother's Day gift through this restaurant's Toast storefront and sent it to my Mom. But when she arrived on Mother's Day to use it, they informed her that they no longer use Toast and had no way to redeem it. I talked to them and informed them that they were still selling gift cards on the Toast website but they insisted there was nothing they could do. Talking with Toast support, all money goes directly to the restaurant so they are unable to process a refund and I needed to address the refund with the restaurant but Evan's claims there is nothing they can do. I finally had to initiate a chargeback with my credit card to get a refund. It's now been over 5 weeks and their Toast storefront is still up accepting gift card orders so it does not seem like Evan's is willing to correct the issue. read more

This place has been on my list for YEARS! We just haven't been in Flagstaff at the right time for a meal. This time hubs & I specifically made a trip so I could check it out. IT DID NOT DISAPPOINT. One orders at the counter & the young lady who helped me was very kind. I was disappointed that they were sold out of mushy peas and sausage rolls, but oh well. The star of the show is the fish. The shop is small. A spot for a "counter" for two to sit, a couple of Bistro tables in the alley and that's it for dining in. But, the fish.... Lightly fried, a beautiful crunch. Add some salt and malt vinegar and I'm back in a chip shop in London. My dad ( UK born & bred) would have loved this place. BEST. FISH. &. CHIPS. EVER. This place is tiny-tiny but so cute. They somehow fit a small table outside for two and a few seats inside. I actually love that the menu is straight to the point because you just *know* it's going to be good. I obviously ordered the fish (had to!!) and wow... I wish we had this back home. The batter was thin but perfectly crispy, the fish was sooo tender, and the hand-cut fries? Chef's kiss. The curry sauce with the fish = elite combo. Portions were huge too! Pricing was pretty standard about $22 for my meal, and totally worth it. I was able to split my meal into three meals. Little hole in the wall spot that came highly recommended. It has the feel of an authentic British fish and chips place. The owner took our order and was so friendly and helpful. Where's the fish? We had heard good things about Evan's and were in the area so decided to check it out. After finding parking a block away we arrived 5 minutes after opening time and were told it would be about 10 more minutes until the grill was hot. We came back and ordered two large orders of fish and chips and were told there were chairs at the side of the building (in the alley) where we could wait. After unstacking the chairs next to a very sticky table the wait was not long. The fish was delivered to us, and we decided to take it home. Upon opening the boxes we found what we thought were three pieces of fish in each box and enough fries to feed an army. The fish was actually a 1/4" piece of fish jerky and about 1/2" of crispy batter. Very expensive fries. The fish was inedible. We won't be back. On the plus side, while waiting, I got some interesting pics of the alley. read more

This place is as great as they say! I wanted to come to flag just to try this place. Fish and chips were fresh, I loved all the sauce options they gave and it is such a classic homey looking shop with some seating on the side. Loved the atmosphere and really felt like I was on an English vacation. I was not impressed with the steak pie and probably would not get it again but the the fish and sausage were delicious and the sticky toffee pudding had to be one of the best desserts I've had ever. The fish is good here. They open at 3pm I believe not 11am. The people working there are nice . They cook the orders one at a time so you have to wait 5-6 minutes. It's kind of a walk up take out place. There were about 3 tables outside. It's quaint and I was there right about 3:15pm I got the original cod and fries. I got small and it was a decent size piece of fish with lovely sliced potato fries. I paid $1 extra for dragon sauce... jalapeno tartar which was perfect and delicious on the fish and the fries. I put a little ketchup on my fries. And squeezed the lemon good all over the fish too. I was starving so I forgot to get a pic. It was delishioso. I'll go back and prob try trout and chips or shrimp and chips. A regular was there and he told me he loves to get a meat pie to go for next day and that they are delicious. Food was what you'd expect. Attitude was NOT, and by the owner no doubt. I was working with the woman who claimed to be the owner. Her name was Joe and apparently she bought this business from the original owner sometime in the last few years. A misunderstanding arose with a trainee who misspoke about their menu before my order. I didn't mind, but when i tried to resolve this with the owner she was curt and indignant. I tried to make light of the matter but as it persisted i confronted her about this, and she tried to gaslight me, and reframe the matter like i was the problem. I wasn't. Her training and her attitude was. She tried to sweeten things in her tone when she gave me the meal but this was after i told her i would remember this experience. So i took the sincerity with a grain of salt. Maybe it was an offf night which i can have grace for, but after looking at these recent reviews i can tell it wasn't an isolated incident. It is really hard to find proper Fish n' Chips in most places. Arizona seems to be especially challenging, outside of pop-ups like Nelson's Meat+Fish or fish.pop (or my house). So it was a fantastic surprise to randomly run across Evan's when in Flag for the weekend. We already had stuff booked for the day and night that I spotted Evan's. But the next day after checking out of our stay at 11a, we decided to kill an hour so driving around looking at real estate until Evan's opened. So glad we did. The Cod n' Chips came out fast and hot as balls. Scarfed it down while parked in the truck, before hitting the road. Definitely want to try more of the menu next time, especially Steak & Ale Pie, and Curry Sauce for the Chips. Owner was engaged and charming. I used to love Evan's. Their portions are much smaller, shrimp much smaller and the service is horrible. The website says call to order. I called about 50 times and no one answered the phone. My husband finally drove downtown and we live about 10 miles away. He waited in the lobby for 15 minutes before someone finally took his order. Our order plus 20% underserved tip was short a chicken and chips when he got home. I called, and again no answer. Then finally a female picked up. I was immediately put on hold. I stayed on hold for 24:30 minutes. I heard their conversations, orders, cursing, yet no one picked up the phone again. I finally hung up. I called again and the call went to the full voicemail, most likely because the receiver was still off of the hook. I am so very disappointed as I frequented this place quite often. I'm not kidding, I've thought about how incredibly crave-able this lovely quaint little spot is countless times since our last trip here. You can choose a sauce, we tried the jalapeño tartar and the regular cocktail sauce. You order at the kiosk inside and get to talk to some pretty nice people. Good weather could allow a few seats outside but we opted for the inside counter. We opted for malt vinegar over our fish and tried the jalapeño flavored tartare sauce for our chips. The 4oz fillet and a huge portion of chips was a great size meal for me. When I arrived to pick up my order, from an older lady (older than college age) I was told, "Oh I know, you're the only person that called five times. It always baffles me when people call multiple times for a pickup order when they're three minutes away." That comment felt unnecessary. I called ahead specifically so I wouldn't have to wait, which is the whole purpose of a pickup order. I get that staff can have rough nights, but customer interactions still matter. This place is great! A little pricy but that's flagstaff. I'm not even a big fan of tartar sauce but their "white dragon" (spicy tartar) is to die for. You get great portions. I usually get the Cod and Chips meal and it comes with one giant piece of cod and more fries than I can usually eat. The sticky toffee pudding is also very good- side note I did find an eggshell in mine once but honestly that just confirms for me that it's fresh. A must try place in downtown flag. Looking over the menu, it's pretty compact but contains many of the British favorites. We opted for the fish and shrimp and chips, sausage roll, and a curry chicken pie. All the fried foods were freshly fried and lasted the 5 minute ride back to the hotel. Everything was so tasty! I was especially impressed by the shrimp which were succulent and juicy and also XL shrimps! The sausage roll was also flakey and buttery and as advertised, straight out of the oven! The pie was also chocked full of potatoes and shredded chicken and was seasoned well with curry. I also appreciate that all the fried food wasn't overly fried, salty, or oily.
