Last weekend when we opened the garage door- one half of it seemed to slip off of the track. I called for a free quote to see about getting it repaired. The man who showed up quickly diagnosed the problem as an issue with the coil. I asked if it needed to be replaced and he said, "no just repaired." He quoted me $250. My husband was not home and we needed it fixed so I told him to go ahead. Shortly after he called me out and told me that after he removed the coil he saw it was bent and the drum was broken- so it would be $450 to fix. I told him I'd need to talk with my husband about it and I'd call him back. He said, "ok- then that will be $250." I was a bit shocked and asked why I'd pay $250 when the garage door was still very broken? He said that he had done the work of taking it apart so I needed to pay him $250. In retrospect , I should have told him "no" as this was information I feel he should have given me when he diagnosed the issue. He should have said, "I think the coils need to be repaired. If that's the case it will be $250- If it needs parts it will $450. He did replace both drums and coils and the garage door worked again. However, when he closed the garage door he said, "it's going really slow. The motor is probably going bad. It needs replaced soon or this will likely happen again." AGAIN- information that would have been helpful BEFORE the repair so I could make an informed decision. Instead I spent $450 on an issue that is most likely going to happen again unless I buy a whole new garage door system (which he quoted as over $900). I would definitely not hire this company again and encourage others to ask a lot of questions before letting them start any repairs. read more

He didn't even bother himself to take care of of this issue and didn't send someone and never answer my phone calls. My garage motor stopped working. When I called tech support they had me disconnect my garage and make sure the garage door was working properly. Turned out it wasn't. The tension springs on the door was not working. So using Yelp, I reached out to a couple different companies to see who could come and take a look at it. Claudia from Express Garage and gate said Daniel was just finishing up a job in the area and could come by in a few minutes. Sure enough, Daniel showed up and showed me the springs were no good anymore. He gave me a good price and then came back on our scheduled appointment to replaced the springs. I called out another company (L&S Garage, who I've used for repairs before and had a good experience with), who diagnosed that I needed a new garage door opener. Their quote included new opener, track, sensors, remote and keypad, but they wouldn't be able to replace my opener for a few days, so I looked to see if there was another competitive bid. Express Garage told me that their technician "Oliver" would be able to come quickly, so I had them come to give me a quote. The person came right on time, and gave a comparable quote for what he said was an all new complete unit. For the same price, I was going to stick with the original company that quoted me, but we negotiated a bit, and agreed on a rate $100 lower than the previous estimate. I wanted to be able to use my garage again without waiting and he said it was an all in price, so felt it was a good deal. Of course, once he took the unit down and was 30 minutes in, he tells me that my belt is broken so he is going to need to replace that too which we hadn't agreed upon. I had thought when he said it was all new, he was already going to be replacing that! Then when it was all installed, he called me out to show me it worked, and said "oh, also, I noticed this hinge is broken, and it's very dangerous so you need to get that replaced too" for another $50. Then when I went to pay, it was another $50 more - he said that was for tax, which I didn't expect when we agreed to an all in price, but at that point it was already installed. So, when all was said and done, I ended up spending the same as the original quote I received and I still didn't have to wait until next week, so it was fine, if not as easy as I had hoped it would be. To top it all off, as he was leaving, he told me his name was Daniel, not the Oliver that I had been told would be coming. So that left an unsettling feeling all together. Ultimately, my garage door works great now and Daniel was very clean and polite, but the interaction wasn't as smooth as I would have wanted. Update: Within 30 minutes of writing this review, the owner of the company (Gal) reached out and made a sincere apology for the pieces I wasn't comfortable with. I explained to him that my experience wasn't a bad one, but just the raised price in the middle of the work being performed, coupled with the technician's name discrepancy, made the interaction feel a bit unsettled. He was genuinely apologetic about the confusion about the name and explained why that happened, and I did feel reassured about the situation. It is clear that this company cares about its reputation and the service they provide, and they provide fast responses to make things better, so that was reassuring. Update #2: The day after the install was completed (yesterday), the unit started beeping, indicating it was working off backup battery. I contacted the company who said someone would be out today within a 2 hour window to fix it. They ended up being an hour and a half later than the end of the window, but did remain in communication to set expectations, and corrected it within a few minutes (turns out, the original installer had plugged the new unit into a switch-operated outlet, rather than the always hot one, so it just needed to be moved). I appreciated I was able to get someone out on a Sunday to correct the issue. read more
