The chicken at this location is just ok. The last time I came by I had ordered some spicy chicken strips. They were on the overcooked side as they were a bit dry or either that, they may have been under the lamp for too long? Who knows. I ended up not eating all the 3 strips that came with my order. I am from the south and moved to the PNW just u fee 3 years ago. I also happen to be a pretty great home cook; self-professed foodie. I am usually quite disappointed in local "southern comfort food" attempts I've tried on the West Coast and often dream of taking a foodie tour back home to get a fix. This place is pretty good. I would say the fried chicken is one of the best true southern comfort foods I've had on the west coast so far (that doesn't come from my kitchen). I prefer the original to the spicy version, and y'all...stick with dark meat when you're going for fried chicken. Way more moist. The skin was on point and had a nice crisp. The spicy wasn't very spicy in my opinion, not Nashville Hot Chicken spicy, but not bad. My husband got chicken tenders that were a bit dry, but as I told him you don't order tenders at a fried chicken joint. The rolls are really great. My mother-in-law is in town this week and we've had rolls 2x this week already. Is this the best fried chicken I've ever had...no. But I've been to church picnics where there were a dozen church ladies competing for the best reputation, so that would be a tall order. This place is worth a visit...just be patient and wait for order because it seems to mostly be made to order. I love fried chicken and I got to try this fried chicken for the first time last night. I got there about 30 min before they closed and they still had white meat chicken it wasn't dry and gross. The breading was crispy and not slimy the chicken was juicy. I only ordered chicken i did half regular and half spicy no sides this time but there rolls are amazing. The regular chicken is so good but there spicy is the best it's not just hot it's so flavorful it is what I will always be getting. If you like spicy defiantly get it. This is the best fried chicken I have ever had I wish I would of got pictures. Next time I will be trying the sides. I also wanna add the guy behind the counter was super awesome even when he had to deal with some jerk who was mad that they were out of some sides and had to wait on chicken. read more

Funny story....we moved to this area a week ago. I was in need of a hair cut. I had seen a sign for a barber shop while taking the girls to school. So a couple days later I stroll in. I get a phone call as I walk in the door so I walk around outside on the phone. After my hair cut, which went great! I was thinking of the chicken place next door. So I had to go. To my astonishment they had gizzard's are were not your standard chicken joint. The gizzard's were great everything they should be. Crispy crunchy goodness. Now I will say I have lived my whole thinking they are discusting. My buddy had me try GO Chicken Go in KC, KS now those gizzards are amazing. So I had to try ezells gizzards. They are great! Make sure you check your order even if you order in restaurant...I asked for an extra honey mustard...the dude says "fifty cents" with an attitude...I passed...come to find he didn't even put my ordered sauces in the bag and also didn't give me my side of potato salad...if it wasn't for the 30 minute round trip drive I would've went back...but I'll settle for Yelp. This chicken is delicious! The coleslaw (I happen to be a coleslaw aficionado) and bread is also amazingly good and you should be sure to give it a shot. The one drawback is that this is not an incredibly inexpensive "good food fast" restaurant, but fried chicken is expensive just about anywhere you go now. Oprah you've failed me... Came in here today for the first time and was not Impressed. I ordered some chicken tenders with a side of beans and the hubster ordered 2 pieces with a side of mash and potato salad. The best thing we ate was the potato salad. Chicken - ok, not great, needs more seasoning Mash potato- tasted buttery, too buttery. not very good . KFC is better. Being from Idaho, and only having the option to go to Popeyes or KFC for chicken made going to Ezell's even more exciting. I have heard of Ezell's through the Food Network channel and also have had a lot of friends recommend I stop by, claiming it was 100% better than the leading brands. I was expecting only the best from Ezell's and I left yesterday highly satisfied. I am recommending Ezell's because of their service, phenomenal chicken,(that is fresh when ordered) and their cleanliness. While I sat there eating the manager came up to me and everyone else there to make sure everything was ok with their food. All of the employees welcomed you as soon as you walked through the door, and they repeat your order so that you leave comfortably knowing you have everything. Not the case....they were out of original and was told the wait would be about 10 mins if I wanted some OG tenders. Decided to go with the spicy instead. Only to wait close to 9 minutes before I was out of there. The manager had no sense of control of the place and lack the customer services others had mentioned. If you go there only get the chicken and get out. No combo no extras... it's not worth it. The fries were limp and soggy and the roll was not fresh. Chicken Strips. DRY. So, lemme say..... DRY. Not a lot of flavor. DRY. I think I mentioned that. Dry to a point, where I could feel, EVERY SINGLE STRAND of the meat. That's NOT good. 2. When you go anywhere for food, you expect that if it's sitting under heat lamps you can buy it. If you want any more than 8 pieces of chicken then you have to wait 25 minutes for it. Was trying to order a 16 piece for my family for dinner and was essentially denied the chicken they had there already for money. The staff said this was policy and that it's explained when you order it. I feel bad for anyone that orders from DoorDash where it has to be made then delivered. Went across the street to KFC. I'm very picky about my fried chicken growing up in the South. Ezell's chicken is rather mediocre in my opinion. I would say their chicken is slightly better than KFC, worse than Bojangles, and way worse than premium fried chicken. The chicken tasted like it had been sitting on the heat lamp for a long time. The skin was not as crispy as I would have liked and I wish there was more zing in the seasoning. The Mac and cheese and mashed potatoes were about KFC quality. After placing my order online and coming to pick it up at the Riich so the food was cooked and ready to be picked up, here I am standing in line or at the counter for five minutes and this Hispanic lady just looked at me and didn't say anything. A few minutes later there was no line and I had to demand my attention to say I was here to pick up an order when I was clearly standing underneath the pick up order sign this Hispanic lady that works here that was working without any gloves picking up rolls out of the pan with the tongs had the nerve to tell me that she was busy. She was very rude and still did not help with my order but the lady with the glasses did. She was being snotty with me in a way that would not get her fired so I decided to leave this remark to let you people know. Have a nice day. I ordered online so why are my sauces wrong I paid for? If she was busy my order should be right in every way agreed? I can't believe she had an attitude with me like that in front of other customers I'm done NEVER again. 1st trip there ... we got all the ways home (30 mins away ) to find half of order missing . They wouldn't refund us . 2nd time ordered food through the website ($84) and door dash deliver . First the delivery driver was so unprofessional because he couldn't find my house and then AGAIN we are missing items. Called and spoke to the manager Joe and he said he couldn't refund me because I had to deal with door dash ... fine ... called door dash and they said no I paid the merchant directly so I had to go the restaurant again . Well this place is easy to find. For 2 Kiddie meals and one adult meal it was about $24 that did not include the drinks. To be honest I am not a food connoisseur or have the best palette, but I know what my taste buds appreciate and that is a variety of foods smells and textures. This did not hit the mark unfortunately. The fries seemed uncooked and we're not warm when we receive them. The chicken was just okay. I was actually surprised that none of the staff was black considering the original Ezell's location was in the heart of the Central District in Seattle. I have heard over the years they sold the restaurant so that did make me feel a little sad to know the original Roots were no longer there. I think the original owner kept all his recipes and that was not a part of the deal and that's unfortunate because this food was not my thing . My son even complained about not liking the chicken and he loves chicken. The wait was about 10 minutes to get our three meals. I'm not from the Seattle area, so I was excited to try a local chicken restaurant. Sadly, my experience at Ezell's was nothing special. The chicken falls below fast food chicken like KFC or Church's. It was obvious that the chicken had been sitting for awhile and the pieces I ate were probably a couple of hours old, and they tasted like it. The chicken was dry in places and the crust was decent but nothing special. I had two sides, mashed potatoes and gravy and baked beans. The potatoes were thin, as if watered down and the gravy was uninspired, seeming to lack even basic seasoning. The baked beans were good, the only item that felt like some care, thought, and quality had gone into it. I would rate the beans 7.5 on a 1 to 10 scale. They were better than average, but not particularly stunning. The young man that took my order was pleasant and respectful. I appreciated his demeanor. When I placed my order, I also requested an order of gizzards. A young lady overheard and said they had livers, but not gizzards. I was disappointed, but whatever. Unfortunately, as I was leaving, I heard another customer, possibly a local and regular customer, order gizzards. The same young lady indicated that the gizzards would take three minutes to prepare. Unless I misunderstood, I was left with the impression that I was the victim of a lie. I don't know if the young lady didn't want to take the time to make the gizzards, wanted to save them for someone else, or some other reason, but I was not happy. All I know is that I ordered gizzards and was turned down, but another customer ordered gizzards and was accommodated. Such a screw up hurts customers, but also the restaurant owners. read more

This visit to Ezells in Kent was much improved from my visit a couple of years ago. Chicken was delicious, juicy with good flavor, and it was not dried out, and not over cooked. It meets my Texas standards for good southern fried chicken. Potato salad was awesome and rolls were awesome. The pieces were big unlike some places that give you micro pieces. Good food. Chicken bland; but nice fry. First time ever and we went to the one in the CD across from yhe high school. Real homemade sides. The chicken could be seasoned way more. Next time I'll try the spicy. The young lady had horrible customer service. Didn't speak when we entered. Told her it was our first time, asked what she recommended. She couldn't suggest anything but the mac & cheese. Didn't offer us a chance to order sodas. So, we had to go back in, and order sodas. Didn't suggest desserts either. I finally decided to try this place out based on a friend's recommendation. First - the chicken is much better than Popeye's or KFC's Second - It's WAY more expensive than Popeye's or KFC's Third - Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles are MUCH MUCH better Fourth - The bread is good Fifth - Service, It is TERRIBLE. Do not expect any customer service here. Don't expect expedient service here. Let's just say - when it comes to service - Just don't make the same mistake I did - Southern Fried Chicken - without the southern hospitality. Good luck with a call in order..Called in an order last Sunday Night--well, tried to..15 mins of dialing while I drove out there and walked it hearing the phone ringing while I watched the employees ignoring it. After hitting up their corporate office the Manager promised me a free meal and told me to call ahead so it would be ready. 15 or minutes of ringing the phone today (on the Tuesday after) they FINALLY answered their phone.
