Bread pudding with coconut ice cream.
Jakeem H.

Hello again back with another review, now this restaurant I heard about it over a year ago and always want to go and finally decided to try it out and I'm so glad I did. When you first walk in you're greeted by the sweetest lady ever. She walked us to the dining area and let us pick out any table. It has plenty of seating with extra table to the right once you walk in. Our waiter was really nice and knowledge of the menu was a plus. While I was looking through the menu I wasn't really sure what I wanted. Our waiter told us about a scallop dish so I had to try it. And when I tell you that the scallops was the best I ever had that was an understatement. If you know that scallops cooking real quick but they were perfect. It came with red rice, capers in some sour/tangy sauce and the whole dish was delicious. We started with the grilled octopus and that was delicious. For appetizer we start off with the grilled Octopus and it had that really good grill flavor but the whole dish was put together really good. For dessert I had the bread pudding and it came with coconut ice cream and I'm a sucker for bread pudding and the execution was perfectly fine with me. Overall I'll give this restaurant 9.5/10. Can I call it a perfect experience? Hell yea! I will go back and it's going to be soon to get the same dish.

Grilled pork chop (YUM!)

Visited 04/26/2025 My wife and I have been here a couple of times over the past few years and had less than stellar experiences each time, although judging from a couple of dishes served, we decided it was just "growing pains". I really didn't want to give a negative review, because Hedy... the hostess and mother of the head chef, has to be the sweetest and most accommodating hostess on record. We knew we'd give it another chance and I'm glad we did. We decided to share the crispy calamari and artichokes (with "Caesar/lime' aioli, roasted red peppers, kalamata olives.) Large pieces of calamari so tender in that aioli maybe some of the best I (we) have ever had. My wife wanted the pork chop, but when I decided I was going to order it too, she switched to the Pekin duck, which she thoroughly enjoyed. The grilled pork chop I had was served (perfectly) on a bed of wild red rice/black bean mixture and some brussels spouts. Fantastic!! Would definitely order this again. Very glad we decided to give First a 'Second' chance!

The restaurant is very pretty inside. The food was very good and the service was attentive, but unfortunately, it was not too busy. I ordered the bread pudding, dessert special, and it was kind of dry. A Nice ladle of crème anglaise over the top or underneath would've been helpful.

Out of town or here who happen to be recommended this place I wasn't expecting something so eloquent and quaint beautiful food, wonderful hostess. We had a great server even got to talk to the chef ordered food. It's a bring your own beer, but we are driving. Long distance definitely worth the stop Romantic..

Really good French inspired restaurant. We had the specials tonight. Butternut squash soup and the halibut over bok choy and red rice were excellent. Everything was well prepared service was very nice. Will be back soon.

Let me start off by saying, the bolognese would be a contender for my last meal on death row... thankfully I don't see that in my future and I can simply go to F1RST to have it again. But in all seriousness, the food was absolutely superb. I went on a double date with my twin sister and brother in law and we had an absolute blast. Food: outstanding go and try it for yourself. Read a bunch about the chef and it's apparently his first restaurant that he's running the whole ship, but he's been executive chef at several other locations from what I read, including another great spot in Glen Rock Stone and Rail. You can tell this is his pride and joy. From presentation to taste, you can see, feel, and taste the love. Service: I'm not sure if we just got lucky or if this place just "gets it." We had an excellent waiter who's name is unfortunately fleeing me. He was fantastic. The man knows what he's doing and I assume the rest of the staff is the same. Not only did he recommend dishes when asked, he was timely with his check ins and appropriately involved in discussions at our table. I'm upset I don't remember his name but will update my review when it comes back to me. Ambiance: this is another one of those "you can't believe you're in your home town during date night but are so grateful you can call a sitter and be down the block" type joints. Anyone else local, that love these types of gems when you find them!? Excellent vibes, feels special but not stuffy. Can come done up in your best heels and designer bag, but can also throw on a nice casual outfit and dine there as well. Best of all worlds. I'm hopeful this place will become another one of Hawthorne's best for years to come. We'll be back soon!

So this is my third visit & this place is spectacular! I love the food! I would venture to say this is the best restaurant in NJ! Chef Adam deserves a Million Michelin stars. All 3 times, everything has been perfect! Service is also on point. Vincent is a great waiter! He is perfect with everything from taking the order, checking in, and timing of the dinner. He's also a very nice guy! I liked every dish I ate & I seriously would pick the plate up and lick it if I could. The dessert is my favorite! Mounds is a must! I can't wait to go back and I just left!

I really enjoyed it here The service is wonderful - really kind and helpful staff I was really struck by the use of acid in every dish - I loved the foie gras special - incredibly balanced and the use of pickled fruits was remarkable The calamari was very unique - it included fried artichokes and really perfect sauce Would totally come back

On a Saturday evening, we ventured in for a sweet treat and it was thankfully pretty quiet. They have a good selection of different flavors like guava cheesecake, black sesame and various teas. We enjoyed the saffron kulfi (almond, pistachio, cardamom) and cookies and cream (blue tinted which didn't seem necessary). The server gave us a nice big scoop for $5.99. In addition to ice cream cakes, they sell signature sundae type things that you can customize and likely friendly to the camera but not to your wallet. There's a good amount of seating towards the back, which is nice since most ice cream shops are small. There's also a location in Hoboken. Looking forward to returning!

That my friends is what I'm coining the Serious Sanity Scale. Serious Sanity Scale in a nutshell. The ideal overachievers of folks take themselves seriously and life seriously. However, they don't take themselves or life too seriously. This is a key difference, one to think about, I don't have the time to define it. I care about it enough to present but not to describe. Then there are others, who don't take themselves or life seriously enough. A crowd that wouldn't even know they were within a crowd of similar individuals. There are some that strive or pretend to be like this, but this style of living is innate, if you ask me. And it is typically temporary, like the tubbyness of my tummy. Or so I try to convince myself. It's been years. When will it disappear. Where are my abs. Underneath? Or uncapturable. Stop it tubby nobody cares about the never ending lint in your bustling belly button. Anyways, back to cookies. I kuddled up with the Keebler leprechaun for 4 straight semesters abroad in Northern Ireland. We basically lived at Sainsbury's grocery. Eye contact so strong that both parties feel they've violated each other. Ya feel me? Anyways... get the chunkier chocolate chip not the thinner one. The chunker? 9.2. Yup. So chocolatey, so tasty. Have confirmed this over multiple tastes, tried and true. They have a different few everytime I end up going. Some duds but a lot of studs, such as the apple crumb punk in the image I blessed you with. I hope they get a ton of business but I'm usually the only one in there. I do go at odd hours so maybe I'm unaware of their popularity. What am I doing with my life. Who am I? What will I become... all things I'll focus on at another time. My focus right now is on getting YOU, my lovely reader, out to Hands Down Cookies on Goffle Road. A truly great and unique cookie collection. Linguini leaves you semi-entertained but fully-educated.
