Terrible customer service! My husband was threatened by 3 of their employees tonight after they tried to essentially steal food from us. He ordered a bacon burger, a regular burger, a chicken sandwich, and some orders of fries, the total of which should have come to what we paid ($36). He came all the way home only to discover that our son's burger was not in the bag, so he drove back and told the guy he was missing a burger. The guy acted like he didn't even know who he was (even though he'd just been there getting the original order). My husband showed them the receipt and said we paid for two burgers and a sandwich, but we only got two of them. The guy was super rude and just said nope. They made another burger, but then wanted to charge my husband for it. He told them he already paid and the guy just kept saying no he didn't. He asked if my husband wanted the burger and he said yes, so he started ringing him up for it. My husband got mad and repeated that he already paid and the guy mocked him and then said "I'm not just going to give you a free burger, dude." My husband finally said he wanted a refund for the original burger and for his burger that was at this point sitting getting cold at home. The guy mocked him again and said "what are you going to do about it?" My husband lost his cool and knocked the plastic tip jar over (which obviously wasn't great, but he felt powerless and angry, and it was empty). The guy got in his face, red-faced screaming, and two more guys came out from the back. One of them picked up a mug from a shelf and threatened to smash it into my husband's face if he didn't leave and threatened to call the cops. My husband told them to go ahead and call the cops because they were trying to cheat him out of the money for the burger and he would wait for them to arrive. That made the guy who threatened him more mad and he screamed to get the F out. Eventually my husband left because he felt threatened with 3 of them against him. He had to go get my son a burger from Carls Jr, which probably tasted better than this place anyway because he said the cafe was dirty and the guy was working the register with fingernails so filthy he second-guessed even ordering in the first place when he first got there. He only did because my son had been here with a friend previously and since it was his turn to choose the restaurant for dinner, he requested this place. That made it especially sad they forgot his burger to start with. read more

Almost a year since my last review and when I came into realization of that, I decided to go for that mushroom burger AGAIN. At 6am. They were no longer frugal on the mushroom (I had a taste of it with each bite) nor was it as onion-y like the last time (but I might have to make a mental note to have grilled onions next time.) And they were fast! Will go for their breakfast burritos (as previously stated on my last review) the next time I stop by. (I just had to get that same burger to satisfy the "Is it the same or has it gotten better or worse?" curiosity.) read more

This place is a joke. I've never had breakfast burrito prepared this way. They placed an over cooked and unappetizing omelette in a flour tortilla, wrapped it and called a breakfast burrito. This was a very lazy attempt of making a breakfast burrito. I also asked to add fresh cilantro and they cooked it in the omelette of the burrito. Seriously...! I had to throw the rest of the burrito away. The taste was awful. Waste of time, waste of money. I do not recommend this place. read more

Yummy food for affordable prices! * My bf and I came here on multiple occasions because their food is just so good and the food comes out pretty fast. So far, I've tried their French toast/sausage/bacon/eggs combo, Avocado omelette, Carne Asada quesadilla, and Fried chicken wings/onion rings/fries combo. Everything was super delicious and your wallet will still feel full after your meal. This place may be kind of small, but it can get super busy. My time was short and I needed a quick bite to eat for my late lunch. No one was inside which was perfect because I didn't have to wait long. I ordered a Bean & Cheese Burrito and had onions added to it. Since it was slow the cook was kicking back in the dining area on his phone. I got my burrito to go and went across the street and sat on a bench. My burrito was nice and fat but when I bit into it the thing was warm and not hot. I liked it but I didn't like that it was luke warm at best and the cheese wasn't melted, there's plenty of room for improvement at this cafe. read more

I had 2 occurrences at this place and the reason why I give this place a 1 star review. Both time I ordered Togo. First occurrence I ordered corned beef hash brown. When I got to the car and started eating I notice a piece of hair so I go an pull it and a clump of hair came out of it pretty gross. Few weeks go buy I decided to give this place a second chance. I go with a few co workers and this time I ordered a steak burrito from their lunch menu. When I get back to the office I get a breakfast burrito with ham and cheese... Service is very friendly here albeit slightly incompetent. Orders can be wrong, take a long time to be called out, creamer not refilled. Don't expect things to be spic & span either. There's a stickiness everywhere. It's more greasy spoon than cafe. And it's been here forever. I do appreciate that they have a char grill. It makes for a much better steak or burger. Their breakfast burrito is bar none for me so far. Any sort of comfort food craving can be had here... corned beef hash, chicken fried steak, biscuits & gravy, chili cheese fries, western bacon burgers, etc. They also have a decent Mexican favorites menu and actual dinner plates like rib eye steak, pork chops, fish & chicken. It's a Mom & Pop fast food joint with breakfast, lunch and dinner items. They seem to get a great afternoon business with the school aged kids and a great breakfast business with the surfers and construction guys. I just had a cheeseburger, no soda, no fries, and it was just over $4 w/tax. Decent size, has their sauce, tomato, onion, lettuce and of course cheese. No pickles (which I like) but tasty nonetheless. You can see the grill from the front counter so if you're concerned with how people are treating your food, you can watch them prepare it. If you're looking for fancy, continue to look, if you're looking for great, continue to look but if you're looking for good at a fair price, it's worth your time and money. The first time I ever had chili cheese fries in my life was when I was a kid in DeMolay and we went for burgers after a meeting at the Masonic Lodge down the street. My kids and I sat down and ordered some. They were pretty basic. Not bad, but nothing to die for. The best CC Fries are to be found at Earl's Grill on Crenshaw if you are up for that type of thing. But, if you want greasy spoon type food, I am sure you cannot go wrong at this place. read more

I work at LAX Airport, I have been eating at Fantastics since 1990, for 29 Years, it used to be my favorite place to eat near LAX Airport, but over the past few months I noticed the food quality has changed for the worst. The Hash browns are a lot greasier, the omelets are greasier and taste soggy, one of my Co-Workers recently had a Breakfast Burrito that tasted Fishy, like it was cooked in old fishy oil. We stopped going there a few months ago. It was never a Gourmet Restaurant, but it used to be a Good Diner, NOT ANYMORE. I remembered these chains from the one I use to frequent when I worked for the Lottery in Torrance (many many moons ago). So we stumbled onto this one while out that way and decided to grab a bite (was finicky and undecided on what to feed the belly). I got a gardenburger and hubby got a cheese burger. The quality of a greasy spoon diner (no insult intended whatsoever! it's a compliment:) was right on! Yellow peppers are also good and not too spicy. They appear to still have the same large varied menu as I remember it, everything from Breakfast (which they are famous for & serve all day) to sandwiches, burgers, combos, mexican food, gyros, salads, dinner combos, etc. Since it's lent, they do have fish and chips, fish sandwich, etc. Place is a little bit dated, but that didn't bother us at all. With all the teeny tiny itty bitty places to eat on El Segundo's teeny tiny Main Street... How on Gaius' Green Earth has this place managed to stay in business in this town? If you've never been to FC the menu is basically a collection of deep fried, grilled, overly processed and breaded "food" items. You would be wise to go to Mc Donalds instead for the same nutritional value, save some $ and get your food quicker. Also, There's a reason my wife and I have nicknamed all Fantastic Cafe's "The Surly Sandwich". Every once in a while my wife would go through FC's drive thru by her work and would always get same shitty attitude from the Hood Rat that work the window. My friends, El Segundo's FC has no drive thru but the attitude is on par with its sister store in Torrance. So if you like your food over priced, really breaded/greasy and served up by a parolee with 2 strikes...by all means come on by! read more

My boss decided to get breakfast at this place along with another co-worker so I was like what the heck...let me try this place too. Looked online to see where this place is at so I have an idea if I've passed by this place, which I have when I go to Big Mike's Philly Cheese steak joint. When my co-worker and boss brought back my order, I had consider that I won't be extremely hot so I'm ok with that. Anyways, realization kicked in when they mentioned the El Segundo location is actually more expensive and give less. Basically at the El Segundo Location, the menu is slightly skewed. For the No.7, 2 hot cakes, 2 eggs, and 2 bacon and sausage for $5.25 +tax. So I already have to give a deduction for demographic pricing. However, quality is above par in comparison to the meal I had at Burgers Etc. which was crap there. I'd take this Fantastic Char Burgers over Burgers and what anyday. Fairly decent for a burger joint overall. The meal did its job of satisfying my breakfast hunger with lots of pancake left over which I was sadly disappointed to throw out in the trash. Price avg is between $3-7 per menu item. Fairly decent price for my opinion. I'm about so-so with this place momentarily. I'm sure there are far better places to hit up than this place. If you had to compare places to get a breakfast burrito in El Segundo, Fantastic Café makes awesome breakfast burritos. It comes with all the potatoes, eggs, cheese, sausage, ham and bacon! This burrito is massive. I usually eat half and save the other half for breakfast the next day. I don't know why there is no much hate on yelp for their breakfast burritos but I LOVE it. This is burger stand quality. If you are expecting fancy, go pay $12 for your fancy breakfast wrap because this place is not for you. Their fried zucchini is also fantastic as well. Finally found a FANTASTIC breakfast joint to hit up before work when I don't have anything at home or just want to splurge on a weekday. They seriously have the best egg muffin sandwiches! Egg, cheese and bacon (or sausage) squished between a toasted English muffin! Gotta love it! They have an egg sandwich that comes with lettuce, tomatoes and mayo - but that's not my thing. They have yummy pancakes, burritos, burgers omlettes and more. This place is awesome for no frills, great prices, so many options for those different cravings! Plenty of parking in the back lot or even on the street in the mornings. It's also nice that they remember you when you've been there twice. The ladies working the counter are great and the cooks in the back are grilling machines! Only gripe is that the coffee is kinda weak. Fantastic Café is a little diner located off Main Street in El Segundo. It's been a while since I last came here and it's never changed...except for the paint on the walls. They serve up everything from burgers to tacos but what they're really known for is their breakfast items. I ordered the chorizo plate with hash browns, corn tortillas, and salsa. The eggs were scrambled in with the chorizo. I thought it would be spicy since chorizo is known for having a kick of spice but not with this plate. It was good but I've had better. On my previous visit, I had ordered the Denver Omelette. It had sausage, red and green peppers, onions, bacon, cheddar cheese, and topped with sour cream and green onions. It was so good andvery filling! After eating this, my next eating period wasn't until dinner...and this was eaten in the morning! Place is clean and the staff is friendly and polite. The service was okay but I feel they could've speeded it up just a little bit. This is a great spot for a meal anytime of the day. Prices are very affordable and they give a lot of food. A poor-man's Big Tomy's (the one on Sawtelle). It's a near clone of the place right down to the menu but if I'm giving Big Tomy's a 3-star rating and this place is a touch worse. Definitely a greasy spoon type of place and you'll feel it afterwards. The burger special is filling but in a gut-busting kind of way.
