    Koobideh w/ zereshk polo
    P O.

One of the best Persian food I've had to date. The koobideh was incredible. No one makes a koobideh like this. The flavor was just so perfect and juicy. Also the zereshk polo was delicious! Together it was heaven. I live quite a ways in Malibu but I'm already trying to figure out a chance to get back here. Would highly recommend this hidden gem!

I love this restaurant when I'm working downtown LA. The chicken kabobs are my favorite. A must try. It's near the Alley by the Jewelry Dristru

Taking a close up look of this salmon grilled perfectly. It literally melted in my mouth.

Salmon & beef kabob plates are highly recommended! Salmon is seasoned well & grilled perfectly, so tender & juicy. Beef is equally addicting. Its mere aroma is already a satisfaction & much more the quality of meat that melts in my mouth. Partnered with grilled green bell pepper & tomatoes that completes the harmony.Tossed salad is served fresh in light yet tasty dressing. Persian rice is not dry with the amount of moist & texture. Impressive!!!

    Kobideh combo and Hummus appetizer
    Brian N.

Stumbled upon this cool alley behind Hill Street in the jewelry district of DTLA. Decided to try this Persian spot and was not disappointed with my decision. The Hummus appetizer was loaded with flavor and was heavy on the garlic in a good way. Had the Kobideh combo and really enjoyed the flavorful and juicy Kobideh and the fluffy rice. Our servers were pleasant and helpful. The price was on the high side, but the portions were large, so I didn't mind. When in the area again, I will definitely go back.

Took picture when I started eating... So, the food was ok. Beef was tender and ok flavoring but the filet mignon seasoning wasn't cooked into the meat...seems like they added seasoning when food was almost done. The rice was great. Hummus...not to happy with it...huge portion but it was runny, not thick paste How I like.

Great middle-eastern food at reasonable prices! This small place is hidden inside the St. Vincent Court which is inside an alleyway, so you won't find it unless you got curious enough to go down this alley. There are also several other middle-eastern restaurants in this alley, but this one is the best! Also, the restaurant almost always has open tables so you don't have to wait to get seated. The most common dishes people order here are the Beef Koobideh and Chicken Koobideh. I usually get the beef koobideh. For the lunch special version of the Beef Koobideh (long piece of beef), you get 1 long piece of beef along with rice (mixed /w saffron), salad and some bread. If you get the non-lunch version, you pay a bit more but you get 2 beef koobideh pieces. Same for the chicken. Usually 1 piece is enough to satisfy most people. The beef is a bit greasy but it is very delicious and juicy. But the rice......this rice is what makes the entire dish. I've never had rice that was this light and fluffy. The rice had the right amount of oil/water and softness to make it super easy to nom on. I've never had rice that was THIS easy to eat, there's no stickiness on the rice either so it just sort of slides down your throat. I do have a couple things that I think the restaurant could work on. The salad tastes very bland, it tastes like eating a cabbage raw. There isn't a strong dressing with it or anything. Also the bread they give isn't fluffy, it's pretty flat, has no texture and is pretty tasteless. But since you come to a restaurant for its main course (which is AMAZING) and not it's appetizer, I still give it 4/5 stars and would recommend people to try it at least once.

Yep.. This place isn't easy to find. The address is shown on Broadway, however, Farid is located in St. Vincent Court. Farid is small hole in the wall restaurant that serves up some pretty good Persian dishes. For under $10, you'll find a few tasty dishes. The kubideh kabab is fresh from the grill, flavorful and juicy. The side salad and basmati rice add to a very filling entrée. Add $4 for a side of hummus. Goes great with the entrees and the fresh warm pita. Service here is very good.

Farid is a small mom & pop restaurant that deserves more recognition for their food. The restaurant is in an alleyway in St. Vincent Court around the jewelry district. There's a lot of other quaint restaurants in this area. I'm not well versed in Persian food but I think Farid is the real deal. We ordered 2 entrees. They come in large portions with basmati rice and a side salad. The meat is well seasoned and tender. The entrees are decently priced considering the rent in this area is probably sky-high. I have to deduct one star because of the location. Farid is hard to find if you don't know the area very well. Hopefully, tourists stumble upon this place while doing a walking tour of downtown because it is very difficult to find parking.

    Combo Plate: $16.50 after tax

My quest for the best Kebab in DTLA, be it Mediterranean or Persian, continues, and while Farid Restaurant reminded me of the values of the Persian side of the cuisine, my lunch experience wasn't as memorable as some other spots in the neighborhood. Shops of comparison for this review include: Corner Kabob: 3 Stars Sultan Restaurant: 3 Stars Shekarchi Restaurant: 4 Stars Dream Kabob House: 3 Stars Soom Soom Fresh Mediterranean: 4 Stars 10e Restaurant: 4 Stars Tipsy Grill: 4 Stars Star 1: How were the service and atmosphere? The service and atmosphere at Farid Restaurant provide some good diversity whether you're in for a quick bite, a to-go order, or a proper sit down lunch. Everyone was very friendly and my order came out quickly. Star. Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? Farid Restaurant does fall on the more expensive end of the kebab spectrum, and I was a bit surprised to find that my two-skewer Combo Plate came to a whopping $16.50 after tax. That's what I'd pay for three huge skewers at Pita Cafe, although it isn't unreasonable given the sit-down atmosphere. Star. Stars 3 and 4: How was the food? Everything at Farid Restaurant was good, but nothing blew me away. The rice was fine but was admittedly a bit crunchy and undercooked in the places where it was up against the edge of the rice cooker, and skewers, while flavorful, were a bit oily. Good, but not great given the competition. Single Star. Star 5: Would you eat here every day if you could? Farid Restaurant is a good option for Persian, but it wasn't life-changing with so many other options in DTLA. No Star.

Delicious Kubideh! What's a kubideh you ask? It's a minced meat kabob made from either beef, chicken or lamb. I absolutely love their Chicken and Beef Kubideh! It's so tender, flavorful and oh so juicy...a MUST ORDER! Chicken or Beef Kubideh Lunch Combo ($7.99)- 12inch long kubideh, fluffy rice, salad & a grilled tomato. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/4MNpF8yY9moFqUbpyzulIQ?select=sxA8nKy2ZAyAYwUGL6EaaA#WVJTcTDugs7rhU7FEGKa7A http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/4MNpF8yY9moFqUbpyzulIQ?select=sxA8nKy2ZAyAYwUGL6EaaA#FANujy7vZxysjQpSzjpphg Complimentary Bread & Butter: http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/4MNpF8yY9moFqUbpyzulIQ?select=sxA8nKy2ZAyAYwUGL6EaaA#0BUUBjoyu6uQxZIzZHvllA A MUST VISIT when you're in the Jewelry District!

They were supper attentive and friendly. After I ordered I sat outside to people watch which was honestly really nice. Reminded me of Paris. My food came promptly thus after. The Tumeric braised chicken is amaaazzzinggg the chicken is so juicy and falls off the bone. The rice has some sort of crunchiness to it that compliments the entire flavor profile of the dish. The eggplant dip reminded me of the one my grandmother makes, dipped with the chicken made my meal feel really nostalgic. I've been back four times since and never regret it. Recently, we were curious if our old go-to, Javan, was still any good. So, my wife and I dined there. The beef and chicken koobideh entrees were both excellent- so tender and juicy. This weekend, we have some friends visiting from San Francisco. As SF is a fantastic food town in its own right, we suggested two different food options that are better in L.A. than what you'll find up there: Korean BBQ or Persian food. The wife pushed a return to Javan. Alex, the manager, recommended the All Javan Combo for our party of 5. It includes tzatziki, hummus, salad, and flatbread to start followed by beef and chicken koobideh, chicken kabob, filet, lamb, and choice of rice. We added an eggplant stew with lamb shank and an extra skewer of chicken koobideh. Finished the meal off with hot tea, a sublimely-delicious saffron ice cream (house-made by Alex himself), baklava, and little bites that were like honey churro nubs. After we finished this feast of a meal, my daughter looked up at me and said, "This was one of the best Persian meals I've ever had." I must agree. This was a meal greater than the sum of its parts- food was very, very good and the experience was elevated by the warmth of Alex and his staff. It's rare that a restaurant works this hard to make its guests feel welcome. Free street parking and a full-bar (Alex is happy to whip-up a special cocktail for you). I give Javan my highest recommendation. Please eat here if you're in the mood for Persian food. Bon Appétit!

We ended up ordering 1 combination appetizer and the dolmeh was good. Usually I may not like the flavor at some places, but this one I was able to eat. We ordered Juicy chicken (2), koobideh Kabob, Naderi kabob(2) and boneless lamb (2). They were able to plate them family style for sharing and so we got the mixed rice so we can try one od each type. They were nice enough to give a little extra rice to make the presentation of the plate look full. We were able to get 3 salads to get served family style as well. The sadaf salad came in the biggest plate to share, the beet and shirazi salad came in smaller portions. The chicken was big and juicy! All the meats we ordered tasted good... soft and tender. I really enjoyed the beet salad as it also had some sweetness to it. The mixed rice variety allowed us to try all the choices: Albaloo had sour cherries in it, Zareshk had barberries (was my husband's favorite), baghali has lima beans and dill, Asas has lentils raisins and dates making it a sweeter rice dish. They could have provided more bread for our appetizer platter and since we had more people but if you ask for more they will bring more. Everyone enjoyed the food. We did have a lot of leftovers so it would have been nice for our server to let us know to order a little less. We probably could have gotten away with a couple orders less. Also would be nice if they have some kind of chili or hot sauce or peppers for those that like a little more spice to their meal. It wasnt too busy when we went (but it was a weekday) so our party felt like everything turned out well food-wise and service was attentive, just a tad on the pricier side (Juicy chicken is $28 for 5 pieces and rice, and lamb and Naderi were $40 &$39).

Unfortunately, I will not be coming back. My family and I went here one afternoon and as we sat down, the attendant from the restaurant told us that the specific table we were sitting on wasn't part of the restaurant and we were not going to be served if we sat there in a very rude tone. We went ahead and moved. Then we went up to the cashier to order our food and the two people that were there were busy talking to each other in farsi about a customer that just came and didn't tip along with some very vulgar language. Then as we were ordering, we told them it was our first time and we got no smile or anything, very still faces like whatever. We ordered two Koobideh wraps and a few other things. It was very uncomfortable. The Cashier didn't even speak to us. As we sat down we were "served" after we HAD to ask if we get bread and onions and water because we saw that they were taking those things to other tables. The Koobideh wrap tasted like Rubber and you could barely hold it together as it was drenched with the sauce and all soggy. Even my 1 year old wouldn't eat it. We had to open up the sandwiches and eat them with a fork. It was not a good experience. Tip for the owner: You should probably remind your employees that some of your customers are Persian and they will understand them talking shit.
