Farid Special: seasoned chicken skewer and beef shish kebab skewer tomato, salad, and basmati rice
    Christina W.

Came here for dinner with a few friends because one of them recommended Farid and I must say, their recommendation did not disappoint! This place does get busy, but luckily I got here before everyone else so was able to put our name down on the waitlist in advance. Our table of 4 were seated shortly after our whole party arrived (so within 20 minutes). Not sure if they do reservations, but if you do have a larger party, know that the dining area doesn't have a bunch of tables, so your best bet is to get there early and be willing to wait if needed! We ordered the following to share: - Mast Khiar: yogurt dip with cucumbers, looooooove! Generous portion, and they also provided more of the flat bread. I'm not too familiar with all of the different types of Persian bread, but it seems like what they provided was Lavash, which I love! - Ghormeh Sabzi: herb step with eggplant, veal, and red beans, served with white and saffron basmati rice. First time trying this and it was also a hit! So flavorful and not salty at all, which is great. I often find American stews and soups overly salty (so avoid them), so I'm always open to stews from other cultures that use other spices and seasonings. Love this one and would order again! - Farid Special: seasoned chicken and beef shish kebab skewers served with tomato and salad, and basmati rice with some saffron. Pretty large portions of beef and chicken which we found super juicy! The fresh salad was a nice palate cleanser in between bites of each skewer, and the grilled tomato and onions added a nice touch. Service-wise, since it was pretty busy when we visited, my friends are the type to not care about staff checking up on us every 50-10 minutes, our waters and flatbread were filled as needed. Overall would highly recommend coming here for tasty Persian food in SF,

    Koobideh w/ zereshk polo

One of the best Persian food I've had to date. The koobideh was incredible. No one makes a koobideh like this. The flavor was just so perfect and juicy. Also the zereshk polo was delicious! Together it was heaven. I live quite a ways in Malibu but I'm already trying to figure out a chance to get back here. Would highly recommend this hidden gem!

I love this restaurant when I'm working downtown LA. The chicken kabobs are my favorite. A must try. It's near the Alley by the Jewelry Dristru

Taking a close up look of this salmon grilled perfectly. It literally melted in my mouth.

Salmon & beef kabob plates are highly recommended! Salmon is seasoned well & grilled perfectly, so tender & juicy. Beef is equally addicting. Its mere aroma is already a satisfaction & much more the quality of meat that melts in my mouth. Partnered with grilled green bell pepper & tomatoes that completes the harmony.Tossed salad is served fresh in light yet tasty dressing. Persian rice is not dry with the amount of moist & texture. Impressive!!!

    Kobideh combo and Hummus appetizer

Stumbled upon this cool alley behind Hill Street in the jewelry district of DTLA. Decided to try this Persian spot and was not disappointed with my decision. The Hummus appetizer was loaded with flavor and was heavy on the garlic in a good way. Had the Kobideh combo and really enjoyed the flavorful and juicy Kobideh and the fluffy rice. Our servers were pleasant and helpful. The price was on the high side, but the portions were large, so I didn't mind. When in the area again, I will definitely go back.

Took picture when I started eating... So, the food was ok. Beef was tender and ok flavoring but the filet mignon seasoning wasn't cooked into the meat...seems like they added seasoning when food was almost done. The rice was great. Hummus...not to happy with it...huge portion but it was runny, not thick paste How I like.

Great middle-eastern food at reasonable prices! This small place is hidden inside the St. Vincent Court which is inside an alleyway, so you won't find it unless you got curious enough to go down this alley. There are also several other middle-eastern restaurants in this alley, but this one is the best! Also, the restaurant almost always has open tables so you don't have to wait to get seated. The most common dishes people order here are the Beef Koobideh and Chicken Koobideh. I usually get the beef koobideh. For the lunch special version of the Beef Koobideh (long piece of beef), you get 1 long piece of beef along with rice (mixed /w saffron), salad and some bread. If you get the non-lunch version, you pay a bit more but you get 2 beef koobideh pieces. Same for the chicken. Usually 1 piece is enough to satisfy most people. The beef is a bit greasy but it is very delicious and juicy. But the rice......this rice is what makes the entire dish. I've never had rice that was this light and fluffy. The rice had the right amount of oil/water and softness to make it super easy to nom on. I've never had rice that was THIS easy to eat, there's no stickiness on the rice either so it just sort of slides down your throat. I do have a couple things that I think the restaurant could work on. The salad tastes very bland, it tastes like eating a cabbage raw. There isn't a strong dressing with it or anything. Also the bread they give isn't fluffy, it's pretty flat, has no texture and is pretty tasteless. But since you come to a restaurant for its main course (which is AMAZING) and not it's appetizer, I still give it 4/5 stars and would recommend people to try it at least once.

Yep.. This place isn't easy to find. The address is shown on Broadway, however, Farid is located in St. Vincent Court. Farid is small hole in the wall restaurant that serves up some pretty good Persian dishes. For under $10, you'll find a few tasty dishes. The kubideh kabab is fresh from the grill, flavorful and juicy. The side salad and basmati rice add to a very filling entrée. Add $4 for a side of hummus. Goes great with the entrees and the fresh warm pita. Service here is very good.

Farid is a small mom & pop restaurant that deserves more recognition for their food. The restaurant is in an alleyway in St. Vincent Court around the jewelry district. There's a lot of other quaint restaurants in this area. I'm not well versed in Persian food but I think Farid is the real deal. We ordered 2 entrees. They come in large portions with basmati rice and a side salad. The meat is well seasoned and tender. The entrees are decently priced considering the rent in this area is probably sky-high. I have to deduct one star because of the location. Farid is hard to find if you don't know the area very well. Hopefully, tourists stumble upon this place while doing a walking tour of downtown because it is very difficult to find parking.

    Combo Plate: $16.50 after tax

My quest for the best Kebab in DTLA, be it Mediterranean or Persian, continues, and while Farid Restaurant reminded me of the values of the Persian side of the cuisine, my lunch experience wasn't as memorable as some other spots in the neighborhood. Shops of comparison for this review include: Corner Kabob: 3 Stars Sultan Restaurant: 3 Stars Shekarchi Restaurant: 4 Stars Dream Kabob House: 3 Stars Soom Soom Fresh Mediterranean: 4 Stars 10e Restaurant: 4 Stars Tipsy Grill: 4 Stars Star 1: How were the service and atmosphere? The service and atmosphere at Farid Restaurant provide some good diversity whether you're in for a quick bite, a to-go order, or a proper sit down lunch. Everyone was very friendly and my order came out quickly. Star. Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? Farid Restaurant does fall on the more expensive end of the kebab spectrum, and I was a bit surprised to find that my two-skewer Combo Plate came to a whopping $16.50 after tax. That's what I'd pay for three huge skewers at Pita Cafe, although it isn't unreasonable given the sit-down atmosphere. Star. Stars 3 and 4: How was the food? Everything at Farid Restaurant was good, but nothing blew me away. The rice was fine but was admittedly a bit crunchy and undercooked in the places where it was up against the edge of the rice cooker, and skewers, while flavorful, were a bit oily. Good, but not great given the competition. Single Star. Star 5: Would you eat here every day if you could? Farid Restaurant is a good option for Persian, but it wasn't life-changing with so many other options in DTLA. No Star.

Turmeric Braised Chicken - The dish was a bit on the basic end, not a lot of seasoning but you could taste the tumeric. Chicken was tender but slightly on the drier side which was a bit surprising considering it was dark meat (6.5/10) Kofteh Tabrizi - The tomato taste was prominent in the broth but the meatball itself was overly salty. The flavor was one note, I can't see myself ordering this again as I've heard this dish should have more complex flavors so I was disappointed (5.5/10) Kotlet Plate - As you can see from my picture, the kotlet was burnt beyond repair and I could taste the bitterness from the overused oil they used to fry it. I did like the yogurt spread and the pickles that came with it but I did not like the kotlet at all. We didn't bother asking them to replace it (4/10) Mirza Ghasemi w/ Barbari bread - The star of this whole experience was the Mirza Ghasemi, the roasted eggplant and tomato spread came cold and it was the most delicious thing we had. One of my friends vacuumed it right up before the rest of us could have seconds. Bread was a bit dry but it was a great vehicle for the Mirza (8.5/10) Lamb Gheimeh - Lamb was tender and it had some nice spices infused in there but it didn't wow me in any way (7/10) Sholezard - Our waitress brought over some complimentary Ceylon tea with the Sholezard which was kind. This rice dessert was not too sweet. The warmth and saffron ended our meal in a comforting way. It wasn't bad but I wouldn't get it again (7/10) +1 star for the service

That's why I was excited to bring my girlfriend and her friend here today. Unfortunately, this experience was completely different. Our waiter, Amir, barely checked on our table. His greeting and every interaction with us felt monotone, rushed, and completely lacking any warmth. There wasn't a single smile or welcoming gesture throughout the meal. At one point, I walked to the restroom and, on my way back, saw the same waiter enthusiastically speaking Farsi and providing attentive, friendly service to several other tables. The contrast between how those tables were treated and how we were treated was impossible to ignore. Based on my experiences here, it certainly felt like customers who are Persian or speak Farsi receive a much warmer level of service than those who don't. The food is still good, but service is a big part of the dining experience. I left disappointed, especially after recommending this place to others. Unless you speak Farsi or are Persian expect mediocre to poor service. This shoutout is for you Amir! Hopefully management reads this review.
