The yelp address listed for Farid Restaurant is completely wrong! We walked into 635 S. Broadway and it's some sort of electronics store. Had to ask the guy if he knew of a Farid Restaurant after which he told us to loop around 7th and go through the alley...duh. From outside, the alley's kind of dirty and noisy, but once we stepped inside the restaurant, it was quiet and a completely different environment. Had to wait a few minutes before the two guys that worked there even looked toward the door. Free lavash bread with butter and raw onions to start. I had the cornish hen lunch, coworker had the shish kabob. Basmatic rice was good although the little salad was kind of plain. Loved the cornish hen cuz although it was skinless, it had some sort of crunchy glaze over it. Not dry either. Price was a little high for the portion size. If you're starving, you may still be hungry after eating the lunch specials. Waiter service needs improving. Man this place is a Gem hidden in the middle of the Jewelry District in down town LA. If your ever in the area its a definitely must go. The Kubideh is simply amazing and the lunch special is plenty of food to fill you up. The Chicken Kubideh is my favorite and at $7.99 for the lunch special you simply cannot beat that. Thats cheaper than the parking. The Kubideh comes with a bed of rice and a side salad. They always give a very very generous portion of rice. read more

I've been coming here since I moved to downtown almost 3 years ago. It's HANDS DOWN the best Persian food in the area. Price points are very fair given the large food portions and the consistent food quality is what has kept me coming back. If you don't believe me, try out the food for yourself. I'm a vegetarian on a diet, so I didn't mind that their menu was limited in vegetarian items. However, the owner did tell me that they will be adding falafels to the menu soon. I ordered the cucumber/tomato salad and the eggplant appettizer. The meal comes with complimentary lavish and butter. The eggplant appettizer was Amazing. I've never had anything like it. My friend ordered the Kubideh and said it was the best she's ever had. I'll bump my rating up to a 5 star once I come back for the falafels. read more

Keep in Mind that this review is based on only having their delivery but i must say that i have never been disappointed. I always order their boneless chicken lunch special which comes with rice, salad, fire roasted jalapeno and tomato and pita bread. The prices are reasonable and their portions are filing. The chicken is delicious and i always enjoy their rice. I have to say for delivery this is the best deal. I eat here at least once a week i totally encourage everyone to try this place. read more

I so stinkin' love this place, I wish it were open right now!!! We found this restaurant while we were shopping for jewelry on Hill and now it's our favorite place to go after visiting our jeweler. If you've never been here, I'd suggest trying the boneless chicken meal or the combination plate w/the rice and don't forget to sprinkle the red spices on top! I love this place! I've been coming here since I was little with my family! Our to go spot every time we are in the area. The way you enter is through an alley and its hidden because theirs other little restaurants next to it. As you walk in the restaurant you can sit anywhere you want and the server comes right away. I always get the lunch special chicken boneless with the white rice -- everything is well cooked and has the original flavor as I remembered when I was younger. Koubideh was edible but not a quality meat Im pretty sure...sort of soggy...I ordered zeresht polo instead of plain rice..IT WAS GRAINY like the sugar granules were present..but it tasted ok..I love persian rices and they dont really offer many..they have a SMALL MENU. The stew my son ordered was barely edible.. the yellow peas it is made of were HARD not even cooked..the meat was supposed to be chunks of lamb..it was more like cheap cuts of beef. A big disappointment..but he ate the meat chunks left the stew.. We were served a piece of Lavash bread..with ice cold butter..never was offered more bread, never offered a drink or asked if everything was ok.. Im from the east coast where FEW PERSIAN restaurants exist so I expected much better..my brother in law is Persian I know the food, he had a persian restaurant in FLA..this food can not hold a candle to the persian food I have experienced. I also had NO SERVICE never was offered a drink just had water..didnt ever get a bill so went to the counter to pay..if you are in LA you can find much better Persian food than this place Id say..and it is in an alley of sorts..I was excited to find it because I love Persian food..but dont waste your time..and the music they play on the TV while you are eating was pure ghetto.. read more

So, when people tell you, "yeah this place is a total hole in the wall", this describes this place to a "T". Farid is Persian Cuisine restaurant in a side alley in the Jewelry district in downtown Los Angeles. This is my favorite Persian restaurant outside my good friend's father's kitchen. It is small, clean and very basic but the food makes it worth the trek. Great Hummus, I usually have the Chicken Soltani and it is amazing. I have brought over a dozen friends to this place ad have sample everything from the salmon kebabs to the chicken salad and it was all amazing. Make sure you bring your appetite the portions are large. I little secret if your order comes with rice, ask for half rice and half salad. They do have the best basic salads, fresh and refreshing with cucumbers and tomatoes. read more

The decor was nice and so was the crockery. However the chicken boneless kabob lacked flavor and so did the polo zereshk. Given that we live in los Angeles with excellent Iranian food options everywhere there is no need to subject oneself to this quality of food. The bread was also coarse vs the softer lavash that is served elsewhere. Service was good and prices reasonable but not cheap. I only eat here out of convenience. Food is mediocre and very inconsistent. You get a chicken koobideh that is salty one day and one that has little to no salt on another day. Same issue with their rice. Sometimes it's nice and fluffy and flavorful, other times it has a bad aftertaste and lacks good flavor. It's like a coin toss with this place. It's nowhere near the quality of Westwood restaurants or most other restaurant in L.A. I think the food lacks attention and it's more like a "short-order" type of establishment. I was working in the Jewelry district a few days ago and was recommended to Farid by one of the companies I do business with. I was a little skeptical of going in an alley by myself being a women and also eating alone in this alley but I was starving and took the chance! Much to my surprise, this was no typical alley. It was all restaurants with tables outside really cute street so I felt much more at ease! When I walked in, it was clean, had a very warm and welcoming environment and felt like it was family owned! I ordered the beef Kubideh with the chopped salad. 2 large skewers came out and I only planned on eating one and taking the other to go, but it was so delicious I finished every last bite!!! I don't love working in downtown but now I cant wait to go back so I can have lunch at my new favorite downtown spot! read more

Food is delicious! We frequently order lunch from them to our office and we are never disappointed. Our favorites are the kashke badejnjan (sauteed eggplant) shirazi salad, chicken koubideh, koubideh kabob and the salmon. The portions are very generous and the food is always good. I felt kaboby today, and when you do, be prepared to shell-out at least $15 bucks (cost me 22 with tip, no drink, delivered). Took 70, yes 70 minutes and 3 phone calls for delivery. 1 star down for ridiculous delivery time. Persian kabob is expensive as fuck, but again knew that just craved it today. Yes, you can order a whack ass lunch special, if 1 wimpy-ass skewer of meat fills you up, Im jealous. Ordered the soultani, which consists of beef shish kabob (it was lukewarm and very hard to chew,) wasted 3-4 pieces which is half the damn skewer from not being able to chew it. They really need to filet the shish kabob better or choose edible cuts, a BIG no-no, down another star. The dish also contains one skewer of grilled long ground meat (koobideh). While I almost always prefer turkish version (kofte) this will do. It was good. The rice accompanying the dish was fluffy and great with sumac. Without the rice I cant get full off a half-assed shish kabob which half was spit out from being unchewable, and one skewer of meat. Also comes with a grilled tomato, and grilled onions. Its ok, but by no means spectacular. Tomato looked more pale/orange than red, yes waited 70 minutes for this. They also throw in a side salad of tomatoes, red cabbage and lemon juice, not bad to go with the meat. I'd definately stay away from the beef shish, order their chicken, or ground meats are good. If you have jaws like the guy in james bond moonraker movie, you could I suppose cut through/eat/chew the shish kabob. Shekarchi 2 blocks down is better though. And darband (on ventura blvd) is the best Ive had so far when it comes to persian kabob, "aga can." read more
