My wife and I went to the Farm Country Kitchen for dinner on Monday, May 29th. When we arrived to the host stand no one was present. After waiting a long time a gentleman, who was busy running around gave me a hand gesture of acknowledgment. After waiting an even longer time h arrived. I was informed the wait time was 20 to 25 minutes. After 40 to 45 minutes I went back to the host stand. Only to find it empty again. I could see my name crossed out. No one called my name. Do NOT go here...me and my bf went today got there 5:30 there was a good amount of ppl they said 1 hr wait, so we waited got some drinks at the bar, then I finally saw a "table"(the little deck next to the bar) open up and the host guy said we can eat there(mins you after I pointed it out), cut to us waiting over 1 hr for a SALAD and a STEAK;steak my bf ordered MEDIUM, came WEEELLLL DONE.THEN cut to waiting for literally anyone around us, flagging a waitress down trying to get our check for 40 mins(they would disappear and never come back, not to mention DIDNT take our order for over 30 mins until I flagged someone too), THEN cut to them TAKING AND LOSING OUR CARD, CHARGING US OVER $100 when our bill was $65, and us frantically trying to search the whole restaurant trying to find it..CUT TO THEM PRESENTING US WITH MULTIPLE CARDS FROM TODAY THAT WERE ALSO NOT GIVEN BACK TO CUSTOMERS, LOST OR TAKEN, and now my bf has to wait 2 weeks for a new card..not only where we not gonna tip because the service before even the card getting stolen and lost was absolute shit(literally 0 fucking service what's so ever if that's even possible, and we usually tip generously) , literally a catastrophic shit show, but they basically charged us a 80% tip, and we were late to our movie reservation after our dinner.. ruined our entire evening. My bf DOENT even LIVE on Li, so now he's stuck in this ducked up situation all because I recommend we go here after our little aquarium date, which is like 1 mine down the road so we both thought it'd be perfect.. NEVER in my life hav I experienced a god damn shipwreck like this place, and NEVER have I regretted a decision so fucking much..do NOT GO..or go and dine and dash cuz they wouldn't even fucking notice u were there or gone maybe you'll get food maybe not..who fucking knows. Ps: the "bathrooms" are like an outside stall trailer(there 1 inside apparently SOMEWHERE, who knows, I was just told that) but they were clogged and water overflowing out the toilets..like fucking disgusting filthy gross, unfathomable. Literally if you go here, get a cheese board and a drink from the bar if u want a water front view so bad you wanna risk it all. Maybe bring cash.. Like I literally feel bad for this review I wish I was blown away amazed, such good wasted potential..this place is tan like a circus, and they line was out the door by the time we were and while we were "eating" , you'd THINK they'd know how to move tables and customers, I saw ppl sitting there for hours like on purpose just hogging space, literally wasted money this establishment could've been making. You'd think they wanna get everyone's food out and ready, checks out and back so they can buss the damn tables and get ppl seated and moving. What I don't get is how do you LOSE MULTIPLE CREDIT/DEBIT CARDS IN 1 NIGHT.. like they straight up fanned a bunch of them out in front of us like a hand of cards, they were pulling cards out out of those bill books that were just stacked on top of eachother(that were supposed to be empty and knew ones, like this was supposed to be a stack of new books to send out for the waitresses, you get it) I'm just mind fucked if I'm honest.. I literally cried on the way to our movie while driving like the fast and furious (we were literally going to see fast and furious ironically) because I felt so bad for even recommending this place and because my boyfriend was pissed and on the phone with his bank the whole way there..like he told me it wasn't my fault, but just imagine my shock to the crazy experience we ended up having.. you'd cry too. This is the craziest review I've ever written and hope I'll ever have to write, if there's typos in this I'm sorry I don't even care anymore, I'm just happy I got out of there, if I could've rated negative starts I would have.. This place was so confusing, and the service was mediocre at best. The restaurant thinks it's a fancy Italian place, but then does things like serves sauces in disposable plastic cups (cheap) and has fruity tropical drinks (confusing). They also misspelled "mojito" with an "h" - embarrassing. The food itself was good enough, but for the price, I expected a little more polish to the ambiance. Now, as for the service, we were not impressed. At one point all of the servers were hanging out near the maitre'd station, and we could hear videos playing off their phones - extremely unprofessional. After we finished eating, we asked for to-go boxes. We received those promptly, but then no one came by our table for 20 minutes. I've worked in the service industry - if you know your table is done eating, you check on them to see if they need anything else or are ready for the check. It turns out they were all having dinner at the maitre'd station, and completely ignored the tables. We tried unsuccessfully to get someone's attention twice. When we finally did, and asked for the check ("do you want to see a dessert menu?" definitely not, we'll be here all night!), again, no one came by for 5 minutes to pick up the card. It simply shouldn't take that long, especially at the end of the night when there are only a handful of tables left and a ton of servers working. Get it together! Oh, and they ask that you tip in cash. So come prepared. read more

3.5 The beauty of this restaurant by the water can't be denied - I really liked the patio chairs on the lawn setup. However, I have mixed feelings. The Hawaiian margarita and the crab cake were delicious but the wrap and panini (which wasn't warmed/placed in a panini grill as hoped) were just okay. The pasta salad served on the side, also nothing to write home about. Maybe it was what we ordered. We were told it would be a half hour wait and told we could sit by the bar and get some drinks- which I took to mean the high chairs across the bar- but within a couple of minutes we were told those seats were for customers who were eating. (Well we were going to eat we were just waiting for somewhere to sit to eat the food, but I digress). Other than that, service was fine but for all the outside beauty, I was was left wanting. This says a lot, but was probably the worst dining experience for my family. Coffee cup came with someone's lipstick marks. Ordered an app, waited 30 mins only to find out it's not available. Owner is beyond rude and made unnecessary comments while arranging our seating. We ordered the muscles and the New Orleans scallops for appetizers. The muscles are the best I've had anywhere ever!!!!!! My son and I get those from everywhere and these were just so amazing!!! I wanna go back here every week just to have those. The scallops where ok but nothing special. We both got a strip steak for dinner and that was really good too. I got the peanut butter cake dessert and it was really sweet. I couldn't even finish it. It wasn't what I expected. We sat outside at night and it was pretty buggy but nothing they can really do about that. Definitely will be back. The staff was very nice. read more

A charming house turned restaurant on a tranquil stretch of the Peconic River. They have various seating options: a covered outdoor patio near it's entrance, on the different floors in the house, on the 2nd floor deck which overlooks the river, and outside right next to the river. They also have Adirondack chairs by the river, where you wait for your table. We sat on the deck, the sunset view over the river was mesmerizing. The deck was netted, no pests...A+! Service was spectacular. The waitstaff helps each other, they were friendly, quick knowledgeable and they don't try to rush you out. The food was delicious. We started with the avocado, pesto and arugula flatbread. The pesto was perfect, bread was crispy. For dinner we had the double cut lamb chops which they cut in half at my request, it was tasty and cooked to a perfect med rare. The strip steak was disappointing. We ordered it med rare but it was served black n blue and was still cold in the center. The waiter apologetically took it away. They cooked us a new one, this time it was rare not med rare, we sucked it up bc we didn't want to complain again. It was also doused in a thick sauce which ruins any good steak. For these reasons only I didn't give this place 5 stars. For desert we had apple crumble which comes with whipped cream. It was good, just wish it came with ice cream. HOW CUTE ARE YOU?!! You're like a B&B but without the bed and bath part. You're like that one family who opens your doors and your backyard to everyone in your neighborhood. You're just...utterly adorable! Reservations are a must here because they are super popular! We made them a few days prior and were running late but they were still able to accommodate us from 6:30 pm to a later sitting, 8:00 pm. There's a lovely sitting area near the entrance of the restaurant for you to wait at but I highly recommend driving 10 minutes down to Riverhead Cider House because they have the most amazing ciders my palate has had the opportunity to indulge in in quite some time. Time will fly there and you will enjoy it. Trust me. What we ordered: LOBSTER CAKES - they're more known for crab cakes here but we went with lobster because it's rare to find a lobster cake on any menu. I don't really recall what the cake tasted like but it was fresh and seafood sweet. What I do remember vividly was that bed of caesar salad. It was the best caesar I've ever eaten in my entire life. The roasted peppers. The cherry tomatoes. It was freaking fantastic. There's so much salad you don't have to order a separate one (unless you really really love your bed of greens). ARUGULA SALAD - the arugula wasn't peppery at all. It was oddly on the sweeter side and you definitely needed to eat it with the artichoke for it to be delicious. I wish there was more artichoke because there simply wasn't enough for thorough distribution and enjoyment of this salad. SEA SCALLOP PASTA - originally a linguini but switched to a penne for gluten free purposes, the scallops were uber plump, sweet, and juicy. So good I ate a whole one myself and there were 4 of us! The pasta itself was standard and light. Tossed in EVOO and garlic, you imagine the rest. GRILLED STRIP STEAK - oh Angus, your port wine sauce was so drool worthy. I couldn't quite taste the gorgonzola cheese crust but I guess I was too blinded and mesmerized by that wine sauce + outta-this-world mashed potato combo you were strutting! RACK OF LAMBS - their July special and YOU MUST GET THIS! It was hands down the highlight of our meal, the creme de la creme. The lamb was absent of any gaminess. Oh. My. Gosh. If you weren't suckered in and swayed by the port wine sauce + mashed potato combo in the steak dish...well HOLY LAMB, the black berry truffle sauce + risotto combo is even more tantalizing. So creamy. So viscous. So...wind in hair driving down the backroads with no city pollution and with rainbows popping up left and right...feeling. BERRY LEMON MASCARPONE CAKE - I am hesitant when it comes to mascarpone cake because they can be a big hit or miss. I once had a slice that was super dense and dry like a brick but don't worry folks, this one is neither dense nor dry. The whipped cream was light, fluffy and addictive. The lemon made the cake super appealing and pleasantly refreshing. It's denser than a regular cake but on the moister side. I would probably want my own next time, or one to share with just one other person! Including tip, we paid $200 which wasn't bad for 4 people! The staff was nice and the diners, all very very happy and sweet! Bring BUG SPRAY if you're sitting outside and offer to share yours with the other diners who may have forgotten theirs because there are a ton of mosquitos flying everywhere! They suck me dry and even with the spray, I ended up with 10 bites that night but it was worth it for this serendipitous meal. read more

Went here for a late lunch on a Sunday and although it was busy there was a table open right away and the service was very quick. The atmosphere is nice it is right on the water and gives off an "old shack" vibe because of the age of the building. However, it is well kept and a very nice spot. I had the sliced steak sandwich which was very good along with a side salad which was excellent as well. My girlfriend had a chicken sandwich which she loved. Overall would definitely recommend if our in Riverhead or around in the area! read more

I visited Farm Country Kitchen with my family (4 adults) for dinner. I was excited to try the restaurant based on the great reviews and reputation. Unfortunately, the food was a major disappointment, especially when you consider the high NYC prices. The Good: Beautiful setting on the river, great sunset atmosphere. Solid cocktails; the Cozumel Margarita (spicy tropical) was really nice. The Bad: Everything that came out of the kitchen. We had the fried artichokes, the burrata antipasta, avocado flatbread, half duck, coffee rubbed ribs, and "cioppino" pasta. All of these items were recommended by the staff, and several were specials. The buratta was fine, but the rest of the food was atrocious. All of the proteins were severely overcooked. The duck was supposed to be very fresh, but when it is served completely dried out, who can tell? The ribs were tough, not tender. The cioppino was completely bland. What a mess. Considering the reviews I read, I expected much better food. Really disappointing. Come for a drink and the view; have dinner somewhere else. read more

I'm still shocked at what I just experienced. This was our favorite restaurant in Riverhead, we've been here many times. Either the owner, the chef, or the management has changed. Something about this place has done a 180 in just the past few weeks. 1. We made a reservation over the phone. Arrived and they didn't have it. We ended up waiting over an hour to get seated. That's fine, because we knew the food would be amazing. We were wrong. 2. The lamb chops were barely edible. They had freezer burn and you could tell by the taste/texture that they were cooked frozen. My wife and I had upset stomach from eating them and just gave up halfway. 3. Thes seafood pasta did not look good or taste good. I've had their seafood pasta many times, this was not it. Overall the food was barely diner level quality which would be fine if it wasnt a $200 check for a 3-person lunch. I'm not even going to bring up that we were missing a 3rd set of plates and silverware half the time. Judging by the recent reviews im not the only one who noticed a change. After another 15 mins of waiting I realized the man in front of us Is the owner. He was too busy chit chatting with a couple. He totally ignored us! I told him we had reservations. We stumbled upon this place looking for a quick lunch, and boy are we glad we did! We sat on the enclosed patio and had a beautiful view of the river. We started off with the recommended special White Sangria, and it was the perfect, refreshing drink for a hot day! I wish I could recreate it! For our lunch, there were tons of great options, but we decided on the Bonfire Wrap and the Sorrento Panini. Both came with a tomato pasta salad. Both were delicious! Prices: The going rate, you're not getting ripped off. Atmosphere: For dinner, you're semi-outside. In the last year we're all used to the canopy covers and the "inside" of this place is literally all that - no true indoor seating. That said, they heat it and treat it like an Inside, so it was just fine.... Food: Very good. I had the Hanger Steak w/ Risotto (especially good, and I'm not a risotto guy). My wife had a HUGE skirt steak which she polished off no problem Obviously, our compliments to the chef. Oh, we also split the Goat Cheese & Berries Brusschetta appetizer. Weird combo in my world but wife wanted to give it a go. I say Go - it was interesting yet worth it. Service: two-fold review here..... Waitstaff: Excellent - Vicky took care of us and support staff were on top of everything and then some. Host(ess): That's another story.... we were new here and had to kind of find the 'desk'. My Panini was INCREDIBLE and so was my friends. My first visit to Farm Country Kitchen was interesting. The establishment is very small, with tiny tables in a small space. But the wait staff was very friendly and that certainly helps. I imagine in the fall, spring or summer the views of the river below must be lovely but in January it is cold and barren. I ordered a nice glass of Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand, very tasty. But at $15.00 a glass for this ambiance, a bit much. I ordered the pork sandwich that was served with a side of potato salad. The meat was tender and the roll fresh. The potato salad was probably one of the worst ever. More like mashed potato and mayonnaise with little seasoning. My husband ordered the steak sandwich that also featured tended beef and the same horrible potato salad. Went to this place after seeing a video about how beautiful it was online. I was only expecting nice ambiance, but what I got was an incredible dinner helped to be that way by incredible people. I called and made a reservation for, but forgot to mention my group wanted to sit on the river outside. I figured with how many people were also waiting to sit outside, we'd be waiting for 45 minutes or more, and we were ravenous. The owner helped us out and we ended up sitting right on the river within 10 minutes, right around when our reservation was. The food was just incredible and the staff was endlessly helpful. This past Sunday, I stopped in again with my wife for another delicious meal but our experience turned terrible after leaving the restaurant, waking towards a foul bathroom smell out front caused by a hired person cleaning out the toilets out front and his truck was blocking my way to leave to another engagement. The worker told me he'll be five minutes, so we got into our vehicle, started it up as not to smell the foul odor. I had no idea that big silver box on wheels was a relieving station. We waited twelve minutes and he was still cleaning out the waste. I beeped my horn twice to get his attention on how much longer he would be. Thats when I was approached by your executive chef Todd came out of the back side toilet hearing me beep my horn, walked over and stood close to my drivers side window. I rolled the window down to see what he wanted, and with his loud disrespectful deep voice, he said to me and my wife, DON'T BEEP YOUR HORN AT THE WORKER, YOU'RE JUST GONNA HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL HE'S DONE! I tried to explain my reasons, as we had another event to attend, but he ignored us and walked over the the person cleaning out the toilet tanks that smelled bad during business hours. I was shocked this happened to us after an enjoyable time eating at their restaurant Farm Country Kitchen. Todd's attitude was not warranted by any means. I wrote a letter to the restaurants email the following business day Monday 07-22-24 but have yet to hear back from anyone in the management position. This experience possibly has us on hold on returning. No guest should ever be spoken to unprovoked. read more
