I'd frequent this establishment if it were an independent place that didn't sound like a jumbo jet was taking off inside. It's a pity too - their coffee and Italian sodas are some of the best in the city, and their scones, muffins, etc., are better than Starbucks. It's never packed so the sound is entirely the fault of the Brimstone. Maybe hidden sound absorbing materials could help? read more

Arrived at The Farmacy after a ride from Los Angeles via Greyhound. I was looking for a comfortable place to relax until I could get picked up. I ordered an iced mocha and had trouble finding my wallet in my bag. The girl at the counter was friendly and patient. The iced mocha was good with tasty whipped cream on top. The seating area was comfortable and provided a good view of the street. While I didn't order any food, everything smelled delicious. The staff was very accommodating to customer's requests. Overall I really enjoyed The Farmacy. I don't anticipate being in Bakersfield often, however I would certainly come back if I was. read more

Food and service has gone down. Before the pandemic, food and service were excellent. The barista was very friendly, even if you can tell he needed more help. Now it's lacking in both. They served us french toast with no syrup on the side... I guess you have to ask. They gave my husband toast that was as hard as a rock. This is a nice stop in the morning before starting the day. Drinks are made quickly and it does not take long for warm food to make it to your table. This is my typical breakfast stop when I'm staying at the Padre. The staff are pleasant and start on your drink immediately after you order it. I don't recommend the iced latte. The mix they use is a little chalky-tasting and bitter. The black coffee was fine. There are more items available than are on the over-head board. If you go up to the counter, you'll see a small stack of menus with hot food options for breakfast. These dishes do not take long to come out and can be ordered To Go. Farmacy's was rich and fresh tasting to the last drop. Huevos Rancheros -- I ordered mine with eggwhites and easy on the cheese The cheese was anything but easy, but after pulling most of it off I was left with a relatively light dish with fresh tasting ingredients. The eggs were fluffy and perfectly cooked. Could have used a little salsa and/or guacamole, but overall it hit the spot. Love there Coffee, it's nice deep and rich. I don't know about fancy coffee drinks, but for good deep straight up coffee, I've got to say it beats out all the 'Quote ' coffee spots in bakersfield. I had an afternoon coffee here with a friend during the week, when I arrived it was pretty slow and not too many people inside. We both had their Irish Coffee and I was pleasantly surprised at how good it was. It was also very aesthetically pleasing. I enjoy my drinks strong, having said that, you could definitely taste the whiskey. My friend couldn't finish her drink, she thought it was too strong. I can't comment on their normal coffee selection, but I'd imagine all their alcoholic coffee based drinks are good based on my experience. If you don't like your drinks strong, I'd recommend letting the barista know. It's also possible just the particular barista we got pours heavy. Anyway, I enjoyed it. The atmosphere was nice and the chairs were comfortable. It's definitely a nice place to have a coffee and catch up. read more

Delicious food! Great ambiance! What a neat place to visit! This hotel is 1928 RETRO and super pretty with original/remade decorative ceilings, marble staircase and an elegant vibe. Our server was attentive and THE COFFEE HERE IS PERFECT. I eat healthy and was served a BIG bowl of fruit with my gluten-free breakfast bowl. The food was yummy. If you like salty you may need to add a little. The wait time was somewhat long but we were not in a rush. I was so happy to find a delicious place to eat that didn't break my belly while traveling. You don't ever really notice this place because it's Inside the Padre Hotel, but once you walk in and see their menu options you're going to become a regular. I come here for breakfast all the time and I always love seeing all of the same familiar faces. The creme brûlée French toast are the best! Whether you're just coming in to grab a quick bite or to sit and dine in they always go above and beyond to make sure you're left satisfied. If you're just in town stopping by or your live in the city it's definitely worth it to come and try this place out. read more

The coffee is good and strong, just as advertised. The hotel is beautiful and it's fun to sit and people watch, that helps this place. We were served our coffee in To Go cups instead of the coffee house mugs pictured. Not too big of a deal, but I wonder how you get a mug like the ones pictured? The spiked menu is fun and innovative, the decor is well done. I felt bad for the 1 lonely guy in the front, he was pretty busy and I had to wait a few before getting the creamer restocked. My husband actually returned his iced coffee. He used to drink any coffee without ever a complaint. My latte was so scalding hot that it burned my tongue. I drink lattes every day. Been here a couple of times now. Mostly grab breakfast super early. They have great breakfast options and coffee/tea options. The waiter who works there in the mornings is a superb employee. He is so quick and caring and makes sure everything was good. I usually get the healthy scramble with some modifications and they are decent. It usually takes 5-10 mins for the warm foods. The seating area is nice and trendy. You will always find a spot in the morning around 6-7am. You can get your coffee/tea to go along with desserts and such. The coffee was very good. Our breakfast items were a one out of three hit. The oatmeal was tasty and had several tasty additives. My Caprese breakfast sandwich was disappointing. The tomato slices were so green and hard I had to remove them in order to eat the sandwich. Seating is very limited. read more

The Farmacy Cafe in the lobby of the Padre Hotel is cute and convenient for guests, such as ourselves. However, our coffee was very low end tonight. I ordered a cappuccino and my boyfriend ordered a mocha. Both tasted like old, watered down coffee from the pot with hot milk added. We are in town on business from Long Beach and drink coffee daily. I expected better from The Padre since they claimed it was "high octane". It's not about the caffein, it's about how good your espresso drinks taste. We enjoyed a game of chess and browsing through the local news paper, which was quite fun! Unfortunately we will go elsewhere for our coffee tomorrow morning. read more

Vegan friendly!! Came in after a long 3:30am greyhound ride from Sac in need of sustenance and this place exceeded all expectations and more! There was nothing I could eat on the menu and the extremely accommodating chef Eddie made me the most delicious Vegan bagel sandwich as soon as I even asked if there was anything vegan on the menu. He seemed so excited to create something lovely. Extremely satisfying meal and he double checked everything to make sure I could eat it. All ingredients are local here and it shows. I took two bites (I only took the second bite bc I wanted to be certain it really was that bad). It was. Tasted dry and had and "off" flavor. Maybe it was old. Not sure. We grabbed breakfast here after staying at the Padre Hotel. What a disappointment. We really wanted to like this place but it fell short (like really short). We ordered two almond milk lattes (decaf and reg), an espresso shot, the lox bagel sandwich, and the croissanwich with turkey bacon. The crossianwich was bland (absolutely no salt or pepper). The harsh browns were probably the best part of the meal. Thankful for ketchup. It makes everything taste better. The lox bagel sandwich was not as described. It did not contain pickled onion and contained two kinds of smoked salmon which was not expected. While the espresso was delicious, the lattes were so hot they could burn a hole in your chest. When they finally cooled off, they tasted average. I've had better at Starbucks. Also, they needed to remake our lattes because they initially made them with regular milk. I mention this because the wait was pretty long for them to fix their mistake. Finally, there was so much confusion when we were placing our order which is probably why they initially got out order wrong. read more

Stopped in here after my boyfriend got into town and he had found it on Yelp for breakfast. We were visiting and his parents were also in town and we were able to walk here from the Marriott. Easy to find at the Padre Hotel, entrance off of 18th Street seemed to be the best. We walked up to the counter and looked at the menu for a bit, we then ordered chilaquiles, chicken & waffles, Brulee French toast and my boyfriend got the breakfast burrito. We found a table for 4 (had to be cleaned twice though) and we waited with our drinks. We waited maybe 15 minutes for our food, not too bad I think and we all got to catch up as well. I like the decor of the place and looking up and seeing farm animals staring down at you from the ceiling. Once our food came out, everyone seemed to really like their choices. I really liked my chilaquiles and liked that it was a bit spicy. Prices are fairly decent and it's a relaxing atmosphere that's not too loud and you can enjoy everyone's company.
