I love traveling and eating at local restaurants. We were told to stop here and I am so glad we did. As you pull up, you may be a bit unsure. All the walls are painted with a huge mural all over. You step inside and BAM, you're right in front of the kitchen. The smells make your mouth water instantaneously. We ended up getting a smaller portion of a pasta dish and then a slice of pizza. I was so excited to be taking company to my favorite pizza place but it turned into the most disappointing evening. The waiter seemed to have no experience with people and once he dropped our pizza off never came around again to ask us how everything was. When he finally came to see if we needed anything else I mentioned it wasn't very good and I was very disappointed since I had brought a guest from out of town and raved about this pizza place. He actually said "well it couldn't have been that bad you ate some!". So basically he took all the pizza that we didn't eat & gave us our check. He didn't have anything else to say. This is for the new Bloomington location!!! Went to the new Secret location in Bloomington and this was the best news!!! They moved into the VFW on 84th (behind the Cub food on Lyndale). This review is for their pasta only. DON'T get the chicken cacciatore! It tasted like it was a boil-in-the-bag microwave dinner. No wait, that might've been better. What I received literally had NO FLAVOR. The 3slices combined of pepper & onion were completely over cooked & slimy; the chicken tasted like it had been boiled & there were 2 slices of mushrooms in the entire entree. Really? On the menu, veggies were listed as ingredients but what I received barely constituted a garnish. Without question this was the worst meal I've ever paid for...so bad that, after giving it to my dog, I opened this account on Yelp to write my first review ever. As I sit here waiting for my pizza and artichoke dip that has taken 1 hour and 15 minutes to produce, I ponder why the hell I am still waiting for my dinner. Maybe it's because when I paid I was told that it would be 10 mins. That was 32 mins ago. What the fuck. I would just walk out but it's 820pm and I don't have a lot of fucking options at this point. Good food, bad service. We got our food to go and asked to sit in the seating area because my boyfriend didn't want to eat it in the car. We asked if we could sit in the seating area, he replies "Yeah, I guess" in a very rude voice. We sit down, a waiter came to our table gave us water and said the same thing about not wanting us to really sit there. We gave our money to them, not sure why they would be upset on where we eat our food. Disappointed. Might give it another chance though. read more

A very reliable neighborhood pizza joint. The crust is fantastic, but if you're a person that would prefer a lighter volume of crust, this is not the place for you. The sauce and toppings are all fantastic as well. Hard to find this place ever not busy. Somewhat difficult with parking, helps if you live in the neighborhood like we do. read more

Great Pizza! I want to start with that because the pizza was really fabulous. I would definitely do take-out. But the service was just kind of sad. Granted, we had a large group, but we did call ahead and were assured that it would be no problem at all and to come on in. Fabulous. We were super excited about that. When we got there though, they seemed surprised. We were then treated like an inconvenience for the next 15 min. while we waited. Again, waiting 15 min. for a big table in a small pizza shop is not bad at all. That's actually pretty darn good. I just....ugh....why do you gotta look at me like I'm ruining your whole night? Went to Fat Lorenzo's on a Sunday afternoon with my father. Our server was very cheery and nice, but didn't explain much about the menu or present recommendations. We ordered rigatoni & meatballs and Niçoise salad. The rigatoni was good and cooked well with lots of cheese. However, the meatballs were flavorless and rubbery. The Niçoise salad was okay- a bit rich for my liking. Definitely think this may be a better joint for pizza vs. some of their other menu items. The Fat Lorenzo's crew did an amazing job at my daughter's wedding reception (Jan, 2017). We had 260 guests. The bride & groom had designed one flavor (chocolate, sea-salt carmel), and chose two others, Fruits of the Forest and Pannacotti (Italian Wedding Cake). The best man told me, "You know it's a hit when the gelato line is 3 times longer than the beer line". People raved about the gelato!!! I appreciated the courtesy and speed of service of the servers at the reception and the attentiveness of Joseph - when we were at Fat Lorenzo's taste testing. Fat Lorenzos is a pretty good cheap eat. I always get just a slice so that all I can really review on. It's $4 or something and definitely a whole meal. It's a pretty dang huge "slice" of pizza. And while I'm sure ordering a whole fresh pizza would be better, I'm always surprised by the freshness of their "by the slice" options, pretty tasty! I'm usually skeptical and even after deciding to order it I am convinced it's going to come out all dry and awful, but then I get it and can't find anything to complain about. They also have gelato, which has been the wildcard for me when I'm there. Sometimes it's pretty good, other times it's just "meh". Whatever, it doesn't have to be amazing for the price point they offer. I guess I can understand some of the negative reviews, I could see that happening at a place like this, but I personally have never had a bad experience. This review is based on the one time I had them deliver food. We had a sandwich and a couple slices of pizza delivered. The sandwich was excellent but I was shocked, horrified and disappointed when saw that the pizza was delivered in Styrofoam (my reaction had nothing to do with the environment). I thought everyone knew that pizza was always delivered in cardboard because it soaks up grease and steam, where Styrofoam condenses the steam and leaves the crust soaking in water. The pizza could have been great if it wasn't a soggy mess. I could only think of 2 reasons they use Styrofoam for pizza, they either didn't know or they just don't care. The thought that they don't know leaves me wondering what else they don't know (and what that means for the food they feed us) and if they just don't care leaves me not caring to do business with them. read more

I've been coming to Fat Lorenzo's for years now and am happy to say it's my favorite neighborhood pizzeria. They have great sandwiches and pasta but what my wife and I usually order is their pizza (specifically fats or slims combo). Not everyone is a fan of big, thick, doughy pizza crust but THIS guy isn't one of them. This crust is so thick and doughy/Bready I'm pretty sure you could cut the crust off and make a phenomenal sub sandwich. The cheese is great too, very good quality mozzarella and fresh veggies. Only draw back would be the size of the dining area but it's very much worth the wait (try some gelato and a beer while waiting)! read more

Prices are very reasonable, and the gelato is something you can't find anywhere else in Minnesota...unless in Caruzo some time ago when I used to make it for them. Also, it is my understanding that the pizza by the slize won't be as good as the one they can make if you order a whole new fresh one. Fat Lorenzo's delivered a medium pizza (with jalapenos & sausage) to the hotel near MSP even though I called just a half hour before their closing time. I would have called earlier, but I was busy calling 5 Davanni's who either did not deliver to my area or were not making deliveries at all. My pie was good - a bit more cheese than I prefer, but still tasty. The edges of the crust had a nice doughy texture, while the bottom was still relatively thin. Nice char on the bottom, just like in Napoli. Reminded me of a crust I might make at home. It seemed like they use a good quality flour. I had 4 slices for dinner, and 2 for breakfast the next morning thanks to the fridge & micro in the hotel room. read more

In my opinion, Fat's is the best pizza in the Twin Cities. If you haven't had it then you need to try it - If you've already had it then you know what I'm talking about. The pizza used to be slightly undercooked for my taste but they seemed to have resolved that this year as I haven't had a single pizza in 2007 that was slightly undercooked. Fat's is good, old school pizza without all fancy gourmet versions you'll find elsewhere. Salads, pasta and sandwiches are also good. The wait staff can change frequently but it is generally pretty good. Be prepared to wait on the weekends. read more

I used to love this place but last weekend we got two pizzas that were mostly uncooked. They have change either the recipe or the chef because this was not Fat Lorenzo's pizza. Best pizza EVER! Stopped in with family after a day spent shopping at the MOA and Im so glad that we did! We ordered cheese bread and an extra large Fats pizza. Both were amazingly delicious. The tables are covered with sheets of paper so you can doodle, tic tac toe, or hangman to your hearts desire. Also, our waiter was phenomenal! I went back and had the strawberry gelato and it was delicious! It all looked good so it's definitely worth the trip. The only negative thing was the man next to me with his dog (and Coach leash). Fat's is a neighborhood Gem. It's nice to see soldiers in there for lunch, Family's, Hot Dates... it all takes place at Fats. The waiters are great! The Food is fantastic! And To top it all off it actually has a great atmosphere. I know it looks a little rough on the exterior. FYI... The owner went to Italy to purchase the Gelato machine, which is also fantastic (ask for samples). I think my favorite is the Garlic Chicken Alfredo..It's not your mommas alfredo for sure! After driving all day and then getting stuck in god awful traffic I had no desire to leave our hotel room to find dinner. Fat Lorenzo's had a free delivery advertisement with a full menu in our hotel guide. We ordered up a cold veggie sub and a 10 inch cheese pizza. They were nice enough to toss in some paper plates and silverware for us. My veggie sub was awesome and made two huge meals (dinner that night and lunch the next day). My dad's cheese pizza was really tasty and had a huge thick crust...but I was so full from my sub that I could only have a bite. We still have some leftovers and it all only cost us $17. My bro took me here after picking me up from the airport. Neither of us was super hungry so we each just ordered a slice. Me the Alfrenzo and he the Slim's. Mine had alfredo sauce, chicken, artichokes, roasted red peppers, spinach, ricotta, mozzarella and provolone and it was incredible. I sampled his Slim which had mushrooms, onions, green peppers and black olives. Both were really tasty and came to the table tout de suite ( I hope I used that phrase correctly!).
