Super friendly staff here...!! They took a good care of us and helped us in ordering correct variety and amount of order as we are here for first time. Me and my wife were all new for Fat Lorenzo and damn hungry and their staff helped us in ordering as we are ordering considering their quantities are less.But their staff informed us to order a single pasta and split in two different plates as it would b too much for a single person to have one, when you are planning to have pizza as well. Yumm,delicious pasta of fat lorenzo. One should must try but their is a trick if you go to other location of fat lorenzo ,the bloomington one which is near to cub foods you will get complete opposite experience. Great little place for Italian food. I had the baked ricotta with meatballs. The meatballs were bigger than I expected. The marinara was tangy with a little spice but not overwhelming. Service was very friendly and fast. The restaurant was small and quaint but an overall Italian feel. I'll be visiting again to try the pizza and gelato. read more

Wasn't impressed at all. My husband and I came here on a Saturday afternoon, the wait was only about 10 minutes. Once seated we ordered the spinach artichoke dip which was waaaaaaay too cheesy and just not good. The pizza had so much dough and it just made it heavy and for the first time in my life I didn't finish a slice of pizza. I'm just glad my husband ate the leftovers. Since my last review it is my sad duty to announce that Fat Lorenzos and I have broken up. You know, I never really felt like I or my money was really respected or appreciated by the staff. Espescially the folks up front answering the phones and making pies."I know my cell phone reception is bad, but please, we can get through this together! We're stronger than this! I thought you loved American dollars! You've changed! I don't even know you anymore!" I found comfort in Seward Luce, and Also Chris & Rob's. Although, I don't think they know about each other. Fat Lorenzo's has a taste all its own. The pizza sauce is spicy, but not "hot". It definitely has a homemade flavor without being inconsistent. Their portions are very nice for pasta, as is the flavor. I first ate here 6 years ago (Minneapolis location), but their Bloomington location is also up to par (ate a few months ago). We've been there 2 or 3 times and had delivery at least once over the past 5 years and never once did I think "Oh yum!" Second time at Minneapolis location and I want to rave about our server Luis! He was exceptional!! Food was fast, hit and delicious and he even brought a sample of each new gelato for us! My family and I had a very disappointing experience at Fat Lorenzo's. The food was unspectacular. I had the spinach and feta stromboli which did not have a good flavor, which was overwhelmingly spinach-y with a weird aftertaste. My son had cheese pizza by the slice which was ok. The style of the pizza is thick and bready, which sometimes hits the spot, but the dough is really flat tasting, does not satisfy. My husband and other son had an Italian sausage and a meatball hot hoagie. Both were again, not very flavorful. We also had an order of garlic cheese bread which was supposed to be an appetizer but was served midway through our meal. Again flavorless with a weird aftertaste like the oil or butter put on the bread was rancid. On a high note the gelato was great. Lastly the service was not good. Our food took awhile to come out. Took 4 trips for 5 things. My husbands food was very delayed. I know this is a beloved restaurant in our neighborhood with a loyal following, so it makes me sad to have such a disappointing experience. read more

For the most part people in Minneapolis and Minnesota for that extent do not know what good pizza is. I feel Minnesotans think Dominos and Pizza Hut is the best pizza you can get. I have had the best pizza in the USA at Pepe's in New Haven, Connecticut so I know what I'm talking about. If you are looking for good pizza then Fat Lorenzo's is it. Good crust and sauce. You can also buy the dough and take it home and make pizales. (Something Minnesotans do not know what they are.) If you have any Italian in you then you know what I'm talking about. He was so nice and happily let us sample pretty much all of them! He even had the great idea of combining 2 flavors in 1 container, and we did just that! Lemon and strawberry. I love this place. Food and service has always been great. My wife and I have been coming here for over 5 yrs now and we've been here for lunch and dinner, during the week and on weekends and it's always the same for us. There's probably 6 different dishes that we choose from and it's always been good. I don't really see some of the issues others have posted here, maybe they did happen to get someone having a bad day but in general, this place as been and will continue to be one of our main stay stops. read more

Tonight was my first experience with this restaurant. The sandwich I had delivered to my hotel room was good, it just wasn't even close to the one I had ordered. The young man who took my order was good, but very difficult to understand. After a 14 hour day, this was the last thing I wanted. I hope whoever got the sandwich I ordered enjoys it... The photo indicates mural city. They're all over, including the bathrooms. A cozy place. They even display extra large cans of sauce and heavy puree on the woodwork. My kind of place. A very nice waiter that we've had before. He had an accent. They had on a cd of Sinatra and other crooners from the sixties. It could have been worse, I prefer Dean Martin. We got a large sausage pizza. I could tell by looking that this is not a pizza to dive into. (blowing on it won't help). I let it rest, almost 4 minutes, and picked it up effortlessly. Two huge, and one thinner slice and I'd had it. Had to save room for gelato. I got chocolate, Basil got espresso(thanks to me spotting it as we walked in). Small and med were pretty close. I love the tiny shovel they give you to eat it with. It starts to melt as soon as it hits the table. I tried a taste of the strawberry, at Dan S. request. I had modest expectations. Entree flavor, service and atmosphere. Here's the breakdown: Solely went to the location after discovering it was the only Italian eatery that still offered Manicotti. I saw so many photos of great food from this location so I presumed it would be outstanding. Wait time to be seated was fine. The busboy who sat us seemed very rushed and literally said "take that one" as he pointed to a table and rushed away. Waitress was very pleasant and attentive until we needed more time, then she disappeared for quite some time. While waiting, the busboy's actions from clearing tables and ridiculously loud crashing of glass bottles into the garbage or whatever just ahead of us was distressing. It made for a feel of being in a trash/recycling center. Anyone with any form of sensory sensitivity from loud noises would have been in a panic attack. It was absurdly rude and disruptive for my taste. The Manicotti entree was a HUGE disappointment. Having seen on menu that all pastas come with garlic bread and images of such bread being delicious looking, I confirmed this offering with the waitress before ordering. When my order finally arrived it was a small bowl nearly overflowing with bland marinara sauce with a disappointing single manicotti roll with less than 1/4" ricotta/spinach filling that wasn't visible under the sauce. It was completely void of flavor at all and did not come with the garlic bread but rather a bland twisted bread stick with what I can only speculate to be burnt pieces of garlic on top. Upon complaining the waitress offered the pasta garlic bread to be brought over (which Manicotti was pasta and should have come with) as well as some garlic butter to hopefully allow to add some flavor. When the check came it appeared she charged for that bread and had to "check with the manager" to approve the gratis, which was offered. I would NEVER recommend this dish to anyone. It was the worst manicotti I have ever had in my entire life as it was a bowl of marinara soup. For an establishment that has the capacity to create stellar, cheesy, flavorful pasta dishes, hoagies and pizza.. amazing garlic breads as well and be okay with serving this is mindblowing. I have no idea how they even allowed it to leave the kitchen. read more

This is a great pizza joint, they do have other Italian food but I've only had the pizza. It is full of flavor and topping, the service it good and it has a nice neighborhood atmosphere. The serve beer and wine which is nice but it is much more of a casual family type place. It is usually pretty busy but you can usually get in without too much of a wait, out door seating is limited and fills up fast. read more

I've always found the pizza to be very good here, I am a fan of thier sandwiches too. Its really a fun place to come to as the pizza kitchen is open to the front counter and you can see the pizzas being made. However I do usually get my food to go because the place is always crowded and the outdoor seating option they have faces a very busy street and feels like a freeway exit. Sometimes the crust is a little underdone so it is is a good idea to request that it be cooked golden brown, and if you don't like alot of cheese you should probably request a lighter amount because they really load it on. Overall I'd say this is in my top 5 places in the Twin Cities for pizza, and would highly recommend trying it. read more

my husband and i used to come here often. it's been at least a year or two so it's been awhile but we were just here last week after so long. service has always been good and we both remember david, who used to help us. he was so unbelievably kind. i remembered one time when we came by every friday evening for over a month straight. for him to remember us and leave such wonderful messages on our receipt was always so nice. my husband and i would try and leave a note on the paper "tablecloth" for him. we're not sure if he's still there but if he still is, hopefully he's been promoted to manager or something. one time, someone paid for our meal. at that time david didn't help us but he was there. we were certain it was david but we weren't certain also as there were a few couples in the restaurant also. if anything, if it was him, thank you from the bottom of our hearts. we have not forgotten. it definitely made our night. and if it wasn't you, regardless, we'd like to thank you for all your kindness. the food here is great! we love it. the noodles are always cooked perfectly. when reading that something is spicy, i will tell you, it is spicy!!! so be warned. i will have to say that last week when we were here, service was rather slow. someone else had seated us as soon as we got there which was great but then to wait at our table for 10 minutes and to not have received a menu or water was rather disappointing. my husband had to go look for the menus. eventually he grabbed them off another table instead. from what we remembered when we used to come here, the menus were on the table. all the while we were waiting, the waiter walked back and forth never acknowledging us or saying he'll be with us until after 10 min later. quite honestly, i was ready to walk out. but i love the food here and i love this place enough that i stayed. after getting our water, we told him we weren't ready to order yet since we didn't grab our own menus until just shortly before he came up to us. even when we were ready, it still took him forever to come back to take our orders. the food came out pretty fast. the salad we ordered was warm and not cold and crisp like how i remembered. even the tomato was warm. it's not supposed to be a warm salad. i noticed that the ranch was a little watered down whereas it used to be super thick. but it was fine. the pastas that we ordered were delicious (like usual). my husbands pasta (picante grassi) was so flavored so well he didn't even put any parmesan or pepper flakes on it. i was surprised and even told him how shocking it was that he didn't. when i tried it myself, i was shocked!! i totally agree! it didn't need anything else. i thought it was super spicy that i didn't dare take another bite. but the flavor is always great! service ended up being a little bit better towards the end but at the same time it felt like he was rushing us also because it was boom, boom, boom. we'll definitely be back sooner than later as we haven't been back in so long. read more
