We had the one scoop toasted almonds that the only flavor you need to know when coming here it's simply the best. No other ice cream can hold a candle to this flavor and brand of ice cream . Don't get me wrong, the food's okay, but the draw is their ice cream. Their desserts are wonderful concoctions of generous proportions of great ice cream and toppings. I came here on a Friday evening and it wasn't too busy! Parking wasn't to bad, since there's large lot to accommodate for the many restaurants and playground near by. I waited about 10 minutes for a table of 6. At the front of the restaurant, there is an area where you can just order ice cream in cones or cups. You can't see the ice cream through the glass as it's covered, but they list all of the available flavors on a menu above! The food menu is just as big as the ice cream menu, which is amazing! So many choices from salads, sandwiches and hotdogs. I ordered the crab salad sandwich and substituted my chips for fries. It was extremely good and was a big portion. I would even say it can be shared between 2 people. For dessert, I got a scoop of the banana nut ice cream. It was so yummy, but had a little too many nuts in my small serving. If you're not from the Bay Area, or not a Pixar movie buff, then you probably don't know that the original Fenton's Creamery location in Oakland was a scene from the 2009 Pixar film "Up" when Mr. Fredricksen, Russell & Dug are having a tasty treat sitting on the curb of an ice cream shop at the end of the movie. Cool, right??!! Fenton's Creamery is an ice cream parlor and restaurant. So, when I was craving for a quick snack and dessert, Fenton's fit the bill. I scanned the long menu and zeroed in on a Chili Dog and Fries. Fenton's does it right. A jumbo sized all beef hot dog, split in half, on a fluffy white bun, smothered with ladle full of chili on top! Side of shredded cheese and red onions. Yum!! Reminds me of sitting at a stadium watching a baseball game. Remember those days??!! To satisfy our sweet tooth cravings, we ordered a Hot Toppers Sundae! It was GARGANTUAN! I'm talking mounds of vanilla ice cream over a layer of sliced bananas and generously covered with homemade hot fudge, whipped cream, nuts and cherry. decided to stop by fenton's creamery on a nice sunny day! you can choose either to dine in or to go - we opted for to-go since we were on the road back home. we waited probably for about five minutes in line - saw that you can ask to try different flavors before making a choice. you can choose between cone or cup - so we chose a cup where we can get two diff scoops ($7.25). i personally felt like it was just like any ice cream that you could probably get a tub of. the oreo ribbon wasn't too sweet and i really did like the oreo cookie in it. i felt like the chunks of oreos were a tad big so we barely got any ice cream in that scoop. the strawberry cheesecake was mostly strawberry - no cheesecake flavor can be tasted. it was really sweet in my opinion and although they gave a generous amount of it, i got tired of it when i was halfway done. maybe i should've picked a better flavor or even dined in next time to give it another try. parking was relatively easy to find although i can see that there could be limited spots since it is a nice plaza to just spend time at. read more

I love the fact that we have a local ice cream shop that offers old fashioned sundaes in a glass dish! You just don't see many places like this anymore. You can pick your sundae size (single, double, triple, etc) and customize the toppings to your heart's desire. DO keep in mind that each scoop is baseball sized! I've been known to get a little too crazy with over ordering most places, but I've learned to keep myself in check here lol. I absolutely loooove caramel sauce so that's def my go to, but you can't go wrong with some hot fudge. I just recently found out they offer cold caramel as well as a topping. It's thick, and I mean thicccccc. I would suggest this only if you really want a strong caramel taste. The texture is a little off putting too as it's a tad bit grainy and chewy compared to the creaminess of the ice cream. It's delicious but it can get real old, real fast. The strawberry sauce has yummy strawberry chunks In it so that's another good option if you're looking for something more fruity! If you don't fancy a whole sundae, you can always go with a classic scoop, cone or cup! They have a separate station inside for to go orders. The wall holds a list of all their current flavors. It's important to check it out as some of the flavors may be in the back and not in the display case. They do offer samples but not sure if that's an option now during Covid. Pricing is comparable to most commercial ice cream shops, and service is generally friendly and prompt. I had a fish sandwich and you couldn't really taste the fish since it was over deep fried. Fries were good. 1 kid of mine complained that the burger was too burnt. The main gripe is the place is just dirty. When you walk in you'll notice tons of flies. The ground has garbage and broken crayons all over. The tables are sticky and just gross. Arrived at the lobby. A family was there before us and both they and us were waiting for a host to come seat us. Unfortunately no one came to the front desk for almost 20 minutes. I couldn't wait any longer and stood in an area where an employee could see me to flag them down. Finally someone came and I told them we and the family before us have been waiting for someone to seat us for some time. The girl said they have no host. She finally sat the family before us, then it was our turn. Server brought out waters and we were ready to order. Both ordered cheeseburgers which were delicious and cooked right. The vegetables that go on the burgers are served on the side. Regular fries are $2.00 and NOT included with the cheeseburger. We only ordered fries for one of the cheeseburger orders as we were going to share them. If you are hungry or have a big appetite, as we did, it might be wise to order a side of fries with your burger and not share, haha. We ended up ordering Kids fries on the side for $2.00 which was perfect to satisfy our fry craving. There are no condiments on the table and you must request ketchup or mustard packets from the server. For dessert, we ordered apple pie a la mode. It was yummy. I loved the crust as it was light and flaky, think of it like a flattened croissant. You can have your choice of ice cream that goes with it. We went with vanilla. It was a good experience this time around. If it wasn't for the long wait to be seated, I would've gave it a better rating. The servers were very attentive and nice. I was of course looking forward to my milkshake but also wanted a nice burger with some French fries. **Epic fail** First off we had to round the corner from the entrance (past 2 "please wait to be seated" signs) to finally get the attention of an employee to seat us. We were a party of two and the place was nowhere near full capacity. Our server was okay nice professional but he never checked to see if we needed anything until it was obvious that we were done I order a milkshake, then bacon (crispy) cheeseburger fries (extra crispy) and a milkshake! My friend got her float right away (looked delicious) and she really enjoyed it. I got my milkshake with my meal. Unfortunately it was half melted (dang not brain freeze!) and my fries was not crispy and barely warm. Again server never checked on us so I am giving this place a thumbs down. It's like Mel's and most other chain restaurant American "diners" serving up crapola. The burgers and grilled cheese that my group ordered were both incredibly undercooked. I already had my suspicions when the runner came up literally 5 minutes after we had ordered with our food. The grilled cheese was a greasy mess and I don't even know what they call those sorry excuses for burgers. Our server, Betty, was very sweet. The first time I went to Fenton's was in Piedmont. THAT place was dope, and I remember the food there being good. THIS Fenton's is totally different in terms of food quality and service. I ordered the sampler platter as an appetizer, and it was really gross. Everything tasted like it was brought in frozen then tossed in the deep fryer. It had an Applebees taste to them. The jalapeno inside the jalapeno popper tasted bitter. You can tell this stuff came in frozen. Gorden Ramsey would say he wouldn't feed this sh*t to his dogs if he came here. I ordered the western bacon burger. The buns were so bad... It tasted like they had stale old bread and toasted it. So when you bit into it, it would all fall apart because there was no moisture left in the bun. I love burgers, but this place really disappointed me. The fries I got with my burger was good though. The service was pretty garbage here too. We came in when it was light. Not many tables around, and the waiters wouldn't refill our waters or bring us the condiments we asked for. They're just slow here. The waiters at Applebees are faster and smarter than the ones here. And that's a low standard for me. You really gotta flag these kids down if you need anything. I'm reading the recent reviews, and they're positive. Although 99% of the positive reviews you see are talking about their ice cream and sundaes. The ones that talk about the food only seem to be average. And this place having 3.5 stars right now seems about right. If I was ONLY writing a review about their ice cream, then this would have probably been a 4 or 5 star review. But since I came in starving to eat their food, I ended up being disappointed. Maybe I came on an off day? Doesn't matter though, this experience was enough for me to know never to come to this Fenton's again. I'll stick to Piedmont. Parking here is easy. It's in a plaza. I only recommend this location for the ice cream. The bad food and service was enough for me to deduct three stars. A lot of the waiters and staff here don't even know what the movie Up is... My husband and I came to Fenton's last week. It's one of our favorite places for ice cream and we will continue to patronize this place despite the following experience. I had to knock off a star because of this experience. When we arrived one of the staff members was not wearing her mask over her nose and mouth. We also noticed she did not change gloves when changing tasks from cash register to serving food. The rest of the staff was compliant with changing gloves as appropriate and wearing their masks at all times. We have come to expect good service and safe handling of our food from Fenton's because that is the standard that has been set so far. I'm glad they're still open during Covid. The outdoor seating and takeout isn't too bad considering it's hot in Vacaville anyways. The line wait time was decent; I think we waited five minutes around 2 pm on a Sunday. People were polite and no one seemed impatient. We ordered the mocha almond fudge on a waffle cone and sat outside after a long camp trip. It was around 90 degrees and the perfect time for a scoop.
