Have not went to Fentons Creamery in forever! My fiancé and I got cheese burgers, other other couple family got a steak salad & a California burger with bacon. There was no bacon added to the California burger, utensils were not provided unleaded asked for the salad, there was no Mayo in any of the burgers, asking for ketchup took about 20 minutes. I understand many restaurants being under staff. However why not allow the public to wait till less amount of people are in the restaurant for the employee not to feel overwhelmed with the amount of tables that have to assist. I'm sure it's not the employees fault. Also there's no mint chocolate chip, they have crème de mint and blended it then added full chocolate chips inside that sank to the bottom of the cup. read more

We've been coming here since it opened. It's a tradition when we drive through Vacaville. Sadly, our visit yesterday may be our last. The food (2 burgers, a cheesesteak, and mozzarella sticks) was mediocre at best. Mozz sticks weren't cooked through leaving the cheese hard and more like eating breaded string cheese. Burgers and sandwiches were average, but we had to wait so long for condiments that the burgers were cold by the time we ate. All that could have just been an off day. What ruined Fentons for us yesterday was the excessive flies and a cockroach sighting. The flies were horrendous. Flies are expected near farm lands, but yesterday was extreme with them landing on food waiting on the counter to be taken to tables and literally everyone in the restaurant swatting them away. At one point our neighboring table all jumped up and pointed to the ground. Sure enough a cockroach was scurrying towards the kitchen. Where there's one, there's many. Four employees tried to get the cockroach to no avail. It made its way under the counter by the kitchen. We all lost our appetite. Fentons would benefit from closing for a couple days, do some serious cleaning and extermination, then reopen with a fresh start. read more

9 years ago, we were blessed with a Valentine's baby son. From there on,celebrating his birthday involves fighting the couples for tables at nicer restaurants or just throwing a towel and going with plan B. This year's Plan B was Fenton's Creamery. It must be few years since I've been here, but that last visit hasn't stuck in my mind as especially positive or negative. I remember it as being average. Not quite great, but perhaps decent? Well, this last visit was more along the "on the way down" tone that a lot of recent Yelp reviews are projecting. Out party of 5 were seated quickly but that and the ice cream are pretty much all that I will remember fondly about my son's birthday dinner at Fenton's. For one, the whole dining room was uncomfortably cold. If I could take a wild guess, I'd say it was 62 degrees tops. It was cold and raining outside but I did not notice any open doors or windows. I also thought it was just me at first but looking around the room I noticed that 90% of the patrons had their coats and jackets on. Next, average age of waiting staff at Fenton's must be around 19 which is perfectly fine, but it's obvious these kids need some leadership. Not remembering to bring or check on the appetizer that was ordered (but including it on the bill), having to be reminded to bring to-go box 3 times, having to check what the soup of the day is, or just overall confusion, were just some highlights of our server. The bacon cheeseburger which I ordered medium was crumbly and dry, clearly very very well done. Why even ask how I want it done if it comes out like that? No ketchup, mayo or any other condiments on the table. Had to ask for that too. The straws they carry are bio-degradable but made out of cardboard and start disintegrating inside the cup if left inside for too long. I appreciate the intent but I'm not a fan of cardboard taste in my mouth or floaties in my drink. I would strongly suggest moving to stainless straws. Once we were done with the main course it was time for ice cream. I mean this is what Fenton's is known for after all. And ice cream surely doesn't disappoint....I wouldn't say it's the best ice cream I've ever had, but it's pretty good. However, if they can't even pull that out right, then there really is a big problem. So based on last night's experience I'm perfectly fine to let another few years slip before coming back to Fenton's. There is all sorts of food (including a much better burger) in immediate walking distance, so unless you have sweet tooth for ice cream only I'd suggest one of those first. And taking my own advice, I will probably invest some time to get that reservation in for my son's birthday next year.... read more

Not the original location, but significantly closer to me. Although this place lacks the charm of the Original location in Oakland, it still serves up fantastic ice cream and sandwiches. Try the steak sandwich or the crab sandwich. Both are excellent. Their single scoop is generous, although a little pricey at $7, however, their sundae's and other items are not much more. Be prepared to hear Happy Birthday sing at least every 5 minutes here. We heard it sung 8 times in the hour we were there, LOL. So when this place is closed during the late night hours, I go to Leatherby's in Sac. This place has fantastic ice cream flavors but the food is just okay. Once we finished up the food and we put in an order for dessert, service was noticeably slower even though the restaurant did not get any busier upon our arrival. For food my friend and I both ordered their monte cristo sandwich which comes with ham and turkey. It comes with a side of grape jam. They do have an option for just ham or just turkey. They were generous with the amount of meat but it was a little salty. For dessert, I ordered a petite sundae. I finally got to try this place and can now join the 80% of the population who says Fenton's is a go-to for food and desserts. My boyfriend and I came here roughly around 2pm on a Monday and this place wasn't busy so we were seated right away. Now, I knew automatically that I wanted dessert from this place but first we gotta get through the actual food and from that menu I ordered their crab salad sandwich I think and opted to upgrade it $1 for their golden fries. My boyfriend got their shrimp po'boy I believe and got their chips. Both meals were filling. Fenton's is a staple of Northern California and quite frankly, if you haven't been, it deserves a trip. Parking at Fenton's can be a little difficult, as it is located in the mall, but well worth it. I haven't had to wait inside the restaurant, as it is huge, but I know they can get pretty backed up from time to time. I've had both meals, appetizers, and desserts at Fenton's and the obvious winner is the dessert. This is what they're known for-- heaping bowls of ice cream and beautiful sundaes. One of my personal favorites is the Black and Tan. The roasted almond ice cream used in this sundae is one of the most amazing ice creams I've had. It combines sweet with salty and goes well with the caramel and fudgey surrounding of the sundae. They also have great sherbet! As far as my meals, its been hit or miss. I usually love coming here, but today was bad. The loaded potato skins were tasty and hot, but somehow soggy. This was easy to overlook because it was so yummy. The staff was unattentive and stood around chatting with each other. We came at a slow time, and there were more than enough staff members for at least 1 person to check on customers. I was giving them some slack because it looked like they were going through a shift change, but nope, they were just chit chatting. It was so bad that even a cook who was trying to get their attention to bring an order out to a waiting table ended up doing it himself. I took a sip of my water and noticed a weird taste. Looked at my glass and immediately showed my boyfriend the dirt all over the inside of my glass. Our ice cream order wasn't made correctly. We ordered the berry go round, which is listed on their menu as " A Berrylicious Taste Sensation! Fenton's came highly recommended by our hotel so we thought sure, let's give it a go. It was a Saturday evening and since it is a local favorite for ice cream, it was pretty busy. We elected to sit on the patio to avoid a 30 min wait for a table inside for dinner. Although it did take a while we finally were waited on. By the time we received our food, about 30 minutes later, it was barely warm. Our waiter checked on us once and we put in an order for dessert. That was the last we saw of anyone for about 45 minutes. We sat with empty glasses of tea and water and a table of dirty dishes, but no dessert. We finally tracked someone down and she explained that our waiter was new, they only had one person on ice cream and there were 30 tickets ahead of ours! Seriously? We canceled our dessert, paid and left. She did send our waiter to close us out. We told him we understood he was new, but he should be better about checking on his tables. This was my first time at the Vacaville location. My Mom wanted something sweet after my cousin's graduation lunch from UC Davis. We ate at nearby Amicis, and Fenton's was a short walk. However, I have been to the Piedmont Ave location in Oaktown many times after a movie. I wasn't going to have anything, but a family member offered me half of their toffee almond caramel crunch. One scoop is massive and costs $3.95. I didn't want the food to go to waste, so I helped out (yeah right! - LOL!!!). The ice cream was just as I remembered: Rich and Satisfying. We sat at the bench in the waiting area with other customers, and enjoyed the view of the Christmas tree. The mango gelato put a smile on my Mom's face too, so it is hard to put a price on that: 4 Stars. Fenton's might not be the best ice cream in the world, but every time I hear the name, or every time I have visited, it puts a smile on my face. I've never been to the original location in Oakland, but I am glad they opened a second location in Vacaville. I didn't know this location had been here since 2007 as I've probably passed by here several times as a pit stop on the way to Reno/Lake Tahoe/Sacramento and back; I thought it was new. Well, technically it is if you compare to the original location in Oakland that's been there since 1894. It's a good location since it's obviously between Sacramento and the East Bay, plus it's right beside the Vacaville Premium Outlets. And the Nut Tree has certainly changed over the years...for the better. For those who says otherwise can go back to the past and remain there for all I care. Don't know how I managed to miss this place during the numerous times we've been here, but I am sure glad it's there. During our last visit to Sacramento, of course Wifey had to "shop" and I was originally planning on stopping by Peet's to grab some Javiva Coffee on a very hot day. Instead I saw this out of the corner of my eye and we quickly changed our plan like a politician flip-flopping on marriage equality issues. My go-to flavor for ice cream is always coffee (except if I'm at Mitchell's and Bi-Rite) and I've have some good ones and bad ones. I decided to get a milkshake to help cool me off from the sweltering heat wave, plus a pint to go. (Note: the pint never made it home) Wifey ordered her couple of scoops and my soon ordered his typical Cookies 'n' Cream. As any ice cream place on a hot day, this place was packed and the line snaked in front of the register. It took at least half an hour before we could place our order, but it was well worth as soon as I got my first sip of the milkshake. It was thick, creamy and good coffee flavor. I was satisfied and enjoyed it to the last sip as I was slurping that straw as it was making that gurgling sound. Been to Fenton's Oakland and since I was passing thru Vacaville I might as well give this place a try. When my wife ordered one scoop of cookie dough on a cone I was blown away. One scoop really means two in my opinion. That forced me to do last minute change to a petite serving size of Coffee Cookie Dream. I guess I never paid attention to the serving size names in the past. Live and learn what can I say? Among the two flavors, Coffee Cookie Dream was the best between the two. It wasn't as overly sweet as the other. My veins were flowing with sugar. No joke. The parking situation here is way better than the Oakland branch. It sits in the Nut Tree shopping center; therefore, you can also get some shopping done. I've never dined at Fenton's, but may try on future visits. read more

Fenton's had been on my radar ever since I went to the one inside the Oakland airport. I wanted to try one of their ice cream in a non airport location. Since I was passing through, I stopped here after a nice dinner in Yountville. I arrived at 8:20, about 10 minutes prior to them closing. I was seated immediately. Service was good. I expected them to rush me so that they could close and go home. But, that never happened. With the help of the waitress, I ordered a Cookie Connection. Within minutes the Cookie Connection came out. The cookie creation came with a warm chocolate chip cookie under scoops of Cookies n' Cream and Cookie Dough ice cream topped with hot fudge, marshmallow topping, whipped cream, crushed Oreos and a cherry. It came on a sizable dish. The Cookies n' Cream ice cream and the Cookie Dough ice cream were indistinguishable to me. I couldn't tell which one was which. The ice cream was a little too sweet for my taste. The chocolate chip cookie at the bottom was no longer warm by the time I got to it. After eating half of it, I stopped. I probably should have ordered something else. Their strawberry ice cream that I had at the Oakland Airport was much better. Fenton's isn't bad. The service was good. Had to go up to the cooks and ask for ranch and ketchup to go with the kids meals. Not to mention the cost is outrageous. I've always wondered what all the hype was about around Fentons. I grew up on Polly Ann and Double Rainbow ice cream so I wasn't sure what i gonna get. This review is primarily for their ice cream since that's what they're really known for. We came here on our way back from a day trip to Tahoe. It wasn't too busy around 5:30 and we actually came here because Fujis next door was packed! The servers were friendly, we didn't know where to enter the restaurant since there were a couple of doors and entrances. Now onto the food! The meal itself was good but who goes to Fentons for their burgers?! I got the Fentons crab melt which was pretty good. Although I prefer my crab in chunks, flavor was good. I also paired it with onion rings and those were very crispy; just what I wanted. My friends ordered the same but paired it with curly fries and one ordered the shrimp Po boy. All were tasty and I wish I had the curly fries (next time). The dessert was what made our meal. We took forever to decide simply because there were just too many options. I scanned just about every picture on yelp to help me with my decision but we all couldn't agree on one choice. We went to and chose the cookie connection out of time and boy were we satisfied! The cookie on the bottom reminded me of a pizookie. The mix of Oreo bits and cookie dough is cream was just the most perfect combination I could ever think of.
