Not my first visit to Fete but this one was disappointing. Went for lunch with a girlfriend and the restaurant was busy. It started out bad when the hostess took us to our table and I had to squeeze in between tables where diners were eating to get to my seat. I later saw others being seated next to us and another hostess would pull out the table so the person could get to their seat easily. Then my salad came and the chicken was raw! I noticed it was a little pink but as I looked closer between the slices, it was even more pink inside. You can see the pink in the picture. My friend agreed and checked the chicken in her salad but it was cooked. I let the server who brought the salad know and he took it back to the kitchen. We were both surprised that he didn't notice the uncooked chicken when bringing it to the table. Our waitress then brought the salad back and barely apologized. However, as I began eating, I noticed some soggy pieces of chicken breading as if they just removed the chicken, cooked it further and then put it back on the same plate. I was worried about getting sick (which i did not) but i didn't want to cause any further delays as my friend was already waiting for my salad to be redone before she started eating. This was a very disappointing experience! I feel like there was no real acknowledgement of the mistake or effort to correct it. Expected more from Fete! However, the saving grace was the homemade rocky road ice cream (which was not comped) which was absolutely delicious! I would come back just for that ice cream again! read more

I've been wanting to try Fete for a long time and was so excited to finally go. We started off with drinks and ordered the 9 to 5, Spicy Kitty, and Going Gauguin. Each of the drinks were beautifully crafted and complex. For our entrees, we kept going back and forth but eventually settled on the Korean Bavette and Butcher's Block. Both were absolutely delicious and thoughtfully designed. The meat was cooked perfectly and each of the components of the dish complimented the other well. Our server was very knowledgeable and witty and made sure we were well taken care of. The space is a little loud, but it brought energy to the evening. I'm glad a friend recommended Fete, it's a nice restaurant on the fancier side, with a great menu! I had one of the day's three specials -- a braised pork shoulder ragu. The dish was fantastic! The pork shoulder was so tender that it fell apart on my fork, and the heaviness of the meat was balanced nicely by both the cream and the sautéed kale. The portion was massive, I just wish I had it in me to lick this plate clean. The cocktail menu looked amazing, but I couldn't indulge since I was driving. I settled for a coffee, which was really rich and smooth. And again, I wish I had a second stomach, because everyone around me was having dessert, and every dessert option looked amazing. They had a few operational issues they were actively working through, but it's still a great place to dine. Just be prepared for a small wait, as the place gets busy fast! read more

My first time here was a great experience. Our server Trevor was excellent! He was friendly, cheerful and knew everything about the food. My friend is having a major bout with some foods and he did his best to help her select what to eat. This is where his expertise on the food and how it is prepared really shines through. He was also helpful in making suggestions to enhance my special beet salad; I added an ahi salad that he suggested and which wasn't on the menu. We didn't order any alcoholic beverages but they have a full bar. a long list of unique cocktails and an extensive wine list. My friend with the allergies was able to find a nice salad that came beautifully prepared and the chef was able to customize the crispy potatoes. My other friend had the tomato soup that came with huge slices of sourdough bread toasted and covered with melted cheese. She also had the Caesar's salad with chicken and the dip sampler with toasted bread. She'd asked him if her order was sufficient and instead of passing the check, he told her that the food she ordered would be satisfactory. He also offered her another free side order of bread when she ran out. All in all a great experience. Parking is a bit of a challenge but there are municipal lots sprinkled through out town. There's street parking or I like to park in the municipal structure that's a block away. Every dish was fabulous! We got the steak tartare with their homemade sourdough. Was sooooo good! The world food tour duo dined at Fete before heading over to the Hawaii Theater to attend the Studio Ghibli concert. We were seated in "the library" upstairs. This is a bright, airy space and it's much quieter than the (packed) main dining room. I love this space! We started with a 2017 Chateau Brane-Cantenac from Margaux. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, it was oaky and earthy, dark ruby with tones of black fruit. The bottle was served too cold for our liking but it opened up as it warmed. Note: Fete has an extensive wine list at various price points. Our appetizers were the Chicken Liver Mousse (special) and the Fete Spreads. The spreads included ajvar (sweet bell peppers and eggplant), mac-nut tapenade and honey over ricotta cheese and was served with toasted bread. The chicken liver mousse came in a jar and had to be stirred to mix in the jam, pickled okra and more toast. We've had the mousse each time we've dined here; it's great! I loved the Ajvar and the ricotta though I wished the ricotta was offered as a dessert. Our entrees were the Spaghetti Carbonara and the Market Korean (Bavette). The bavette is sliced flank steak marinated in a gochujang sauce, served with a sunny side up egg, fried rice and a pear slaw. The latter is crunchy and reminds me of a sophisticated vegetables in a banh mi. The steak was flavorful and tender and the yolk added richness to the dish. We finished our meal with Dorie Greenspan's Chocolate Cake; so creamy and rich and was served with a scoop of ice cream. I had my usual cup of black coffee. This was another great meal at Fete; the prices are very reasonable if you don't go crazy ordering wine. Highly recommended! read more

This was a sublime experience and it was good to go for an early dinner (we had a reservation for 4:45 pm) and were surprised to see the restaurant already quite full at that time but service was much quicker at the beginning. We were seated in the library area which was a nice quiet spot and the brick building had an interesting character. We started with a liver mousse, oysters, beef tartare, and carrots. All the appetizers were delicious but particularly loved the pickled cucumbers and okra and the carrots and their pesto were scrumptious. For main courses we had the spaghetti, mushroom risotto, mahi mahi, and fete salad.... The mushroom risotto was perfection and my daughter and I wished we had ordered it instead of our dishes. The fete salad was good but the crispy chicken on the side had some pieces overcooked. The spaghetti carbonara was good but a little heavy in pepper for my daughter's liking. My husband loved the Mahi Mahi. Service was responsive and good for the most part (the host was very sweet, his wife was the chef of the restaurant). I'm so glad we found this place! Just inside the Chinatown area, this little corner spot has some of the best food I had while in Honolulu. I made a reservation a few weeks in advance and made a note that it was my birthday. The host/server 1/server 2 did not acknowledge my birthday or ask if we were celebrating anything. We got seated at a crappy table in the middle of the dining room. These two tables had white tops and clearly looked like an afterthought to cram more tables into the space. The tables were so small and cramped that it was like tetris trying to fit 2 appetizers plus our small plates on the table. When the entree came, WE had to start stacking plates. The staff did nothing to help. I had to ask to get my water refilled. Service was abysmal. The appetizers were delicious. We loved the dips and the steak tartare. Highly recommend getting both. I asked for our Market Korean steak to be medium rare. The thing could have been alive for how bloody it looked. The sauce was red so it took each of us 1-2 bites to realize it and at that point we did not know if we should send it back. This was not a fancy steakhouse so we continued to suffer through it. But luckily, no food poisoning or anything from the rare steak so at least the meat quality was okay. This dish is popular but I would not recommend. It had a weird sweet sauce and a sweet pear kale salad that did not go well. The best thing on this dish was the garlic fried rice. We ordered the olive oil cake for dessert. It definitely would have benefited from a scoop of ice cream and more caramel. I enjoyed the cake but it was heavy. I have no plans to return. It was just not a pleasant dining experience. I would like to dine comfortably and not have plates hanging off the edge of the table. Not sure why this place isn't five stars, but it sure deserves all the stars... So good! We went to show support for the first Hawaiian female chef to get a James Beard award and we weren't disappointed! We struggled to pick two dishes because they all sounded so good. In the end, we had the Twice-Fried Chicken special and the French Onion Grilled Cheese. The chicken was flavorful and super crispy. Went here on a friend's recommendation for super cocktails and food. The cocktails were great when we finally received them almost 30 minutes after ordering them. I think our waitress forgot to put the order in. At least she got the 3 and 6 yr old dinner out right away and had the plate split for them since they both eat like barely anything. We started with the Chicken Liver Mousse appetizer which was blow yiur mind flavorful and then split the seafood cioppino as our second app which was excellent as well. The two appetizer flavors though did not complement each other.... which I think a good server would suggest a pairing that would with the mousse. Dinner: Split the pork Ragu... also outstanding flavors. Dessert Rum Raisin cake with a kulolo ice cream was fabulous! Service from waitress was ok, albeit friendly. She was not attentive at all to providing initial silverware or napkins, providing cocktails, refilling water, clearing plates, or following up to ask how the food was. She seemed too busy conversing with other employees and guests that she knew. She did at least split all of the main courses since we were doing a tapa's style dinner. The ambiance is Uber cool with a nicely stocked bar although it is super tight seating with very loud conversations due to the high ceilings. The owners should really install ceiling acoustic panels to absorb the noise so you can hear your partner talking literally 1.5ft away from you on the other side of the table. This is hands-down the best food we ate while in Oahu, every dish to the cocktails were unreal! Our server brought so much magic to the meal the the history and story chef had for each dish. I circled numerous times to try to find parking and was unsuccessful. I ended up going into a paid lot about a block or two away. If you see a parking spot within a block or two, just snag it bc it'll get snatched up when you circle back. Second, my husband brought me here, saying that he came once before and had to return bc the al pastorita (al pastor margarita) was out of this world. Hence, we literally came here for the cocktails. LOL! I wasn't too hungry, so I got the caesar salad and added chicken to it. Honestly, it was actually very tasty and I don't regret getting it. I would recommend it to share or, if you're looking for a lighter option, it is definitely big enough to be a main. We also got the grilled carrots, which I thought were a great starter and also yummy. My husband got the steak frites and... they were okay. Probably the least favorite thing we got, but by no means bad. Just nothing particularly special. The service was lovely and we really enjoyed chatting with our server. But more than that, we were seated next to another couple and we ended up chatting together the entire dinner. I know some people may hate that, but my husband and I really enjoyed the conversation we had with the other patrons. Ate at Fete last night and got a little sick afterwards :-( I am vegan and have dined here before without issue, but last night some cheese ended up in my meal which caused me to be sick. I am unsure if the waitress forgot to ring in the squash risotto without cheese or if the kitchen made an error. But regardless it is frustrating to be sick after spending over $75 per person. We also didn't get any water refills which only caused my stomach to hurt more. I thought our server was very nice but maybe she just needs more training? I'd like to come back because I usually love the food & drinks, but will have to be more vigilant about my dietary restrictions. Whenever I come here, I never eat anything bad. This time around we ordered the ragu and this was just absolutely amazing, we will continue to order this every time we come here. The butternut squash risotto was also yummy. The roasted carrot starter, while seemingly questionable, was so wonderful. It was topped with crispy chickpeas and a delicious sauce. Another underdog of the night was the chicken liver mousse and this was so surprisingly delicious, it came with pickled okra on the side and little toasts and was so good! We ordered the aligot, while good I was a bit disappointed as it had watercress in it making it a little lighter, but we were looking for a true aligot. For dessert we ordered the calamansi cannoli and the kulolo ice cream. The calamansi cannoli didn't have a strong calamansi flavor, I wish it was a little strong but it was still nice. The kulolo ice cream was so delicious and creamy, one of the best ice cream's I've had. Definitely recommend you to try the Al Pastorita which is probably in my top 3 fav cocktails now. The food was overall quite food, but some things locked the wow factor for the price pointa and I wouldn't reorder. What we found to be great: their POG cake, cocktails, beef tartare, anchovy butter sourdough, special three meat lasagna, baked oysters. The venison salad was interesting but the sliced meat could have just been generic roast beef and was pretty overpowered by the tuna sauce. The croutons were amazing though, super crunchy and buttery. The Korean steak was also cooked perfectly but we felt that the sauce topping it was a bit simple and overpowering. I really appreciated how kind the staff were about having an allergy. It was the first question they asked our table, and they proceeded to tell us each item on the menu (food and drink) that contained my allergen. We also had the Bavette steak (very tasty), their burger (with a bacon add on) mmmmmm! Also had their carrots, loved the fried potatoes, great texture! Quinoa fritters (very crispy), and their piping hot fries to go with the burger! Of course, dessert did not disappoint either. The rocky road was exactly what I remembered and craved! Fete is one of the best restaurants in Hawaii, and probably...in the world :) You can feel the spirit of Robin Maii's passion for both cuisine and hospitality, and everything on the menu is absolutely delicious. I made reservations for lunch on a weekday and there were availabilities but in the day off, it was a full house that it was lucky we made reservations beforehand. There were indoor, outdoor, and bar seatings. The indoor tables were pretty close to each other that we can hear the conversations from the people seating next to us. We didn't mind it since their space is small-medium size and they wanted to accommodate as much seatings as possible. Korean Bavette: I ordered the meat medium but it came out well done. It was also on the tougher side where it was difficult to chew. The pear slaw was good. It was refreshing with a sweet and spicy side from the gochujang sauce. The fried rice was on the firmer side where some bits were hard and crunchy. Coconut Kauai Prawns: The prawns were perfectly cooked. The coconut sauce and chips were good but we wished there were more of the sauce. Ginger Scallions Fried Rice: This is the same fried rice on the Korean Bavette but with a bigger portion. This is one of the sides we ordered to pair with our prawns dish. Special Pasta: This was one of their specials for lunch. It included sun dried grape tomato, peas, parmesan, and veal. The sauce was light but creamy and savory. This was my initial order but they didn't have enough for a full portion so they gave us a half portion on the house to try. The half portion looks like a full dish. The pasta was amazing. The sauce was delicious and the veal wasn't gamey but flavorful. Overall, a great place for lunch. The service was excellent. Food: Phenomenal! (5 stars) Ambience: Close to spectacular. (4 stars) Service: Unfortunately, this is where I must hit the brakes and bring the train to paradise to a screeching halt. Since I live in Vegas, let's imagine I took all my friends with blonde hair to an exclusive magic show at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, but I decide the street performers on Fremont Street are good enough for my only friend with black hair. Suspect, right? Well, that's exactly how I felt as the only person of color on the patio during my visit to Fete. The server's interactions with me were pretty dry and even condescending at times, while he took time to build rapport with everyone else, literally within earshot of me: "Where are you all from?" "Okay, I actually grew up in North Lake, Wisconsin! How long will you all be visiting Hawaii?" "How was the food this evening?" Ultimately, I'm glad I got to support a trailblazing Native Hawaiian chef, but the server's implicit bias and complete lack of self awareness was a major dealbreaker for me. Drinks are packed with flavors. Drinks: I ordered the Maii Tai. It was delicious and refreshing. My friends ordered the Spicy Kitty, which it comes in a really cute kitty glass. Food: There was around 6 specials the waiter shared with us. All of the specials sounded so good. I recommend everything we ordered. For appetizers, we ordered the grilled carrot, so good!!! You might wonder what's special about grilled carrots, we thought the same, but it was packed with flavor and had a delicious aioli sauce with it. We also ordered the appetizer special, it was a Ulu mash with fried okra on top. Totally Recommend! They do some sort of magic with the delicious fried okra on top of the mash. The appetizers was more unique than the entree. Entrees: -Market Korean: steak dish with fried rice, over easy egg on the rice, and a side of slaw. The slaw was refreshing with this meal. But beef was tough. Waiter recommended beef cooked at medium "per chef recommendation." -Beef Pot Pie: they do not skimp on the beef pieces! You get big chunky beef and veggie pieces in the pot pie. -Lamb Special: delicious charred edges and the veggies that accompanied the dish. But meat was tough, so get ready for a arm workout when you cut the meat. Waiter recommended lamb to be cooked medium "per chef recommendation." - Fish special: white fish wrapped in prosciutto, making the outside crispy. Came with fried potatoes on the side. Was tasty but fish was a little dry. Reservations: recommend making a reservation. This can be done on their website. Really nice experience at Fete. Always consistent and really solid meal. Server seemed a little busy and blew through the spiel and specials. We ordered quickly and food came quickly. In and out in about 50 minutes. 3 pax ordered 2 apps, individual mains, not a lot of alcohol, no dessert. Super happy to grab some of the deviled eggs that were a special. This was BY FAR the best meal we have had in a very long time. We had the honey mustard wings with a homemade dill sauce which were tasty, but not the best wings ever. What made this meal so special was the ragu. It would stand out in Italy, that's how good it was. We also had the Caesar with crispy chicken. The chicken was fantastic and the Caesar had almost a lighter dressing than you'd imagine for a Caesar but still tasty. You HAVE to finish your meal with the rocky road ice cream. It was incredible. Service was perfect, our waiter explained the menu and some of the history behind the place which we appreciated. Ambience was good, not too loud or too quiet but the tables are very close to eachother which can be annoying but the food was so good we barely thought about it. I've visited this restaurant twice. I love it here. Service is great! Pricier menu than usual, but the portions are shareable and flavors were so good! Theres a parking lot around the block, not too far from- we paid $5 for 2 hours via QR code. Although I believe they have reserved parking in the back for the restaurant. FIRST VISIT (no photo): Food: Took a really long time to come out, but I could tell they were busy the day I went (weekday lunch). I ordered their sandwich special. I wish I took note what it was because it was SO good - love the pickled okra. Service: 10/10 although the food took a while, they checked up on us often, and even apologized for the wait. Ambiance: Came for the first time on a weekday late lunch, got seated at the bar (my fault, made a late rezzo). There were so many people and it was way too loud, couldn't really enjoy. But second time's the charm. SECOND VISIT Food: So tasty! Will definitely make it a goal to come back until to try the rest of the menu. My favorite was the Fête spreads and the Zucchini Lemon Risotto - both tasted so fresh, perfect for the summer! Service: From the host to the server, they were all so personable and attentive. 10/10 again. Ambiance: We came on a Saturday Lunch this time, much better ambiance than the weekdays. I returned to Fete since they won the James Beard award and luckily we made reservations at 530pm cause when we got there we seen it busy already! Love the interior in here and it can get quite loud but it's ok we came for the food! Ordered their Korean bravette steak and pork ragu pasta to share. No dessert since we both were stuffed!
