Fiat Cafe is a real gem, with good, cheap food, and a lovely ambience that has me wondering when I can return to try more of their food. I got the vegetable panini, which was stuffed full of a mix of roasted vegetables: mushrooms, eggplant, zucchini, etc, and topped with goat cheese and basil pesto. The ciabatta was perfectly toasted so that it had a great crunch but was still tender somehow. Also, the mixed greens side salad was perfectly dressed and a great counterpoint to the carbs and cheese fest. Did I mention all that was $7.50?! So, I'm from a big city (DC) with a serious inferiority complex about NYC, and restaurants like this are precisely why. Fiat Cafe is tiny and unpretentious, and serves great food at a very reasonable price. Linguini with clams for under $10 (and pasta so good I'm convinced it's homemade)? I couldn't get that for less than $15 in the District. The duck confit pappardelle is another must have, and a steal at $13. The cash-only thing can be annoying, but I'd happily put up with it for such great value. read more

Whilst roaming around NYC aimlessly, my friend and I were hoping to find something with a reasonable stars to dollar sign ratio, and alas we were directed to Fiat cafe. At first glance it did seem a little bizarre. Water was served out of old wine bottles, it seated 20 people tops, and as the name would suggest was covered in Fiat memorabilia. Our delicious lunch more than compensated for the cramped quarters though. We both got grilled chicken paninis with a side salad and the Italian equivalent of Sprite. This is a cute little place in the border of Chinatown and Little Italy. And as the restaurant name suggests, it is pretty high on Fiat's. I was seated with a party of 7 right away, and throughout the entire night it seemed there was never another seat open which is proof of how great it is! I came here with my mom over the weekend. I hate going to Dean & Deluca so I decided to come here after checking the Yelp reviews. Fiat Cafe is a solid spot for lunch in SoHo. My mom and I both ordered paninis - she ordered the veggie panini and I ordered the grilled chicken panini. Both were delicious and I won't hesitate to say that Fiat Cafe served the best sandwich I had in a while. The best part about the meal? The price. For being right in SoHo area, the price incredibly low. I like when restaurant's don't overcharge for a meal based on location in the city. The only downside to Fiat Cafe is that the space is incredibly cramped. However, that shouldn't be a deterrent as the food here is worth sacrificing some space over. read more

Wanted to go to another restaurant first, where the wait was too long. SO happy we went here instead. The place does not look like much, but their food is GREAT!!! they have an awesome special menu, that i would highly recommend going off of. We all had some kind of pasta, and all loved our meal. There was four of us and we ordered two bottles of wine. Our tab came out to about $65 which was AMAZING. Only down side is that the wine they have is REALLY REALLY BAD. Came here on a weeknight and it was empty so they let us sit wherever we liked. It's a small place where seats are limited and the tables are super close to each other. If you're wearing a puffy jacket or a bag, you'll most likely knock something or the person next to you. The lighting is a romantic sort of dim with candles on every table. We ordered the Salmon with roasted vegetables, Bresaola (with arugula salad, shaved parmigiano cheese, lemon and olive oil) and the Linguini Fini (with baby clams, pancetta, garlic and a touch of crushed red pepper). The salmon was cooked well but lacked a bit of flavor especially when it was paired with veges which also didn't have much flavor. I enjoyed the salad a lot, the cheese was soft and creamy, every bite of cheese was delicious. But what was disappointing was the Bresaola. From what I understand, Bresaola is salted beef. Besides the cheese, I only received one other ingredient in the dish and it tasted like sour radish (you can see it in the picture). It was hard and all it tasted like was something pickled, it didn't taste like salted beef at all, nor did it look like it. The linguini was pretty good but needed a lot more sauce, there was only a tiny amount of sauce and by the time we ate half the rest was just dry linguini. They give out bread before your meal and I love restaurants that do because I love bread myself. I don't really know why but I really like this place, I just wish the food tasted a little better than just mediocre. I love the atmosphere, the decor and the service; it just gives out a really warm, homey feeling. read more

What a fantastic little spot in Nolita. Prices are phenomenally low for the quality/portion size of dishes that you get. I shared an incredibly flavorful lentil soup, a perfectly poached eggs benedict, an open faced western omelet, bowl of brown butter and sage with balsamic sauce ricotta ravioli, along with a Peroni, mini bottle of Prosecco and a glass of red wine all for $48. Everything was wonderfully tasty, and we left very full and happy. Will definitely be returning. Service was also very pleasant, attentive, and patient - and they took the courtesy of timing our courses very well too, which they didn't have to at all for such a casual place! I came in for brunch by myself this past Saturday and after waiting ten minutes, in which nobody said anything or even welcomed me, I left. I wouldn't mind waiting to be seated or even told that they couldn't take me, but the servers just brushed past me numerous times without a hello or a "I'll get to you in a minute". I understand that they were busy (the place was fit to bursting), but there was a small table in the corner perfect for a single person and I know they don't take reservations for brunch, so I don't know what the deal is? I came here on a Tuesday night with a girlfriend and yes, it was still crowded. You are literally sitting on top of other people here. To be specific, the waitress needs to move the table next to yours if you need to get up and use the bathroom. If you like cozy, you can't get cozier than this. Don't get me wrong, it's cute but not at all spacious or comfortable. We came here for the food - not the space itself - so it didn't matter. We ordered the linguine with white clam and the pasta carbonara. Both were so delicious. Very flavorful and authentic. You could really taste the freshness of the ingredients. I don't think I've had any better Italian food in my life. Even cooked by my Italian friends! I should mention this place is cash only. Major kudos o the waitress for her amazing service, being the only waitress for the entire place. Also the bathroom was small but thankfully clean, so thank you Fiat Cafe for maintaining it. What a pleasant little stumble, and it genuinely felt like a basic Italian cafe. My girlfriend and I grabbed a seat by the window on a sunny day and enjoyed a lovely brunch. They serve brunch late, almost until 5pm which is wonderful for us late risers! Their eggs benny was good, but I really wish I had had my friend's salad. It was deliciously fresh and light! No bloody marys, just wine and beer but the location, simple and quiet environment made this a perfect location for a quick catch up. read more

Came here last night for a light dinner and a glass of wine. Standard cafe fare. Ordered the burrata and tomato salad. Light, refreshing, great for a humid summer evening. Milky curds encased in a mozzarella shell, mixed and mingled with slices of tomato, drizzled lightly with olive oil and sprinkled with a bit of sea salt. A recommendation? We had breakfast here when we visited NYC last year and thought we'd return - big mistake The restaurant was unusually quiet as it was Columbus Day - only two other tables occupied however zero welcome from the blonde waitress so we seated ourselves - something that appeared to be frowned upon when she finally realised we were there. The guy that cleaned the table was much better with customers and seemed quite welcoming. My wife ordered avocado & poached eggs on toast and I had the pancakes - both were sub standard My wife found something hard & crunchy in her salad leaves. Felt so wrong that she spit it out. She'd hoped it was only a piece of egg shell - didn't find any so still not sure whether the unexpected ingredient was animal, mineral or vegetable! My pancakes looked great - two large plate fillers with some fruit salad on top and dusted with sugar icing. Sadly they were the worst pancakes I can remember eating in a long while. I like pancakes and often order them so I have a good sample by which to judge these horrors. The texture was totally synthetic - more like a cake mix with a blade defying leather- like base that tasted of plastic. A packet mix of poor quality if I'm any judge. The fruit garnish was ok. The maple syrup 'sauce' (not real maple) was cold, thick, tasteless and surprisingly not very sweet. No butter was provided and although we were only one of three customers, it took way too long to get the eye of a server who then seemed confused by this request. I don't consider myself to be really picky - I'll happily wolf down ihop pancakes and come back for more, however this is the first time I walked away with more than half still in the plate. Simply inedible I'd remembered that the coffee was good here and we both ordered americanos. What we got was closer to a quadruple expresso - way too strong and no amount of milk would change the colour let alone the taste. All in all one of the worst breakfasts in quite some time. Perhaps some lighting in the kitchen would help - those guys must be able to cook in the dark! The blonde waitress was very busy being busy when I wanted to pay up, so I went the counter to pay her. She offered a half-hearted 'How was everything' and seemed not to hear my 'not great' response or notice my sour look. I wish I'd returned to the Clinton Street Bakery where the pancakes are expensive ($14.50 vs $9.50) but totally gorgeous, the coffee is great with free refills (not so at FC) It's a good reminder of Sir Henry Royce's (of Rolls Royce fame) wise words - 'Quality is remembered long after the price is forgotten' The menu at Fiat Cafe looked simple but appealing. However if they can't deliver a simple breakfast and coffee with some degree of welcome, then I'm not chancing a lunch or dinner there. Pity, it had style and great potential read more

I LOVE this place. Even though the place is a little small and cramp, the food is amazing. I came during noon time and had an Western Omelet and my friend had the Grilled Chicken Sandwich. I was pretty hungry because me and my friend had been walking for an hour and I didn't eat breakfast or lunch. Although I just had an omelet, it was amazing with the side salad. Definitely worth the money. I also tried a part of my friend's sandwich and that was even more delicious; it taste like pizza but way better and made me regret getting the omelet. Service here was not bad at all either. The waitress greeted us with a smile and there was a warm feeling in the cafe(not from the stoves, haha). Another waiter gave us a bowl of bread and olive oil to dip in the moment we sat down and gave us another bowl of bread the moment we finished the first one. He also gave us a wine bottle filled with water, which I was intrigued by because I never seen something like that being served before. What a great little find ! Decided to stop by here for a quick breakfast on my way to work in SoHo . The space is quaint with a Parisian charm, the server was also very charming ;) ! I love the cappuccinos here, and the food is good too . I've gotten an egg bagel sandwich and granola with yogurt here, both which were really good ... Taking out a fellow newcomer to New York City, this was such a great find. 1. You come in and see how small and quaint the place is. Chalkboard menu, a vase of water on every table. A lot of people were there, but the volume was perfect so you can hear the person with you, but won't be distracted by anyone else's conversations. 2. The food selection was incredible. She ordered breakfast with coffee, while I ordered a Grilled Chicken Panini. Plus if you order a Coke, they give it to you in a tiny classic glass bottle. Good touch! 3. The meals came in at a reasonable time. Both her breakfast and my panini came with greens on the side. We definitely enjoyed ourselves. 4. Between the two of us, it came out to little over $20. I decided to go to this restaurant because my friend was raving about it. I saw the menu online and it looked pretty good. I was debating between going for something on the brunch menu or getting pasta, but I decided to get the brunch. Ordered the poached egg on avocado toast and my friend ordered the poached eggs with gravalox salmon. Avocado toast had very little mashed avocado on it. It was almost a smear if anything. The poached eggs with gravalox was the better meal out of the two. Portions are on the smaller side. Service wise, I would say they're below average. It was about 1-2 waitstaff serving to about 10 tables. Mainly one waitstaff going around while the other stayed behind making drinks. I had to asked for my check 2 times because they forgot the first time. All in all, I think I would skip the brunch. Fiat is amazing. Best coffee in the area - They make each cup from scratch and you can tell. Their wines are also very nice! Food is affordable, homemade, and fresh. I like Fiat Cafe. I think it's cute and there's a certain charm about it since it's so small and intimate. Which is why it really pains me to have to leave this review but I'm just so annoyed by my most recent experience here that I had to warn people. 1. If you come here, stick to the linguine and penne vodka or lasagne. Because I decided to be daring and try their gnocchi this time and it was a bad decision. The white sauce was watery and had the consistency of soup. The gnocchi was stiff and grainy on the inside. I would've expressed my displeasure at my dish if you know...I could've flagged down our waitress. 2. Which leads me to #2 - where was the waitress? She was basically absent from service from the moment she dropped off our dishes. If you try to flag her down, she basically just never makes eye contact and zips off to the kitchen. Okay fine, I'll just eat this shitty gnocchi and suck it up - let's not talk about how Trader Joe's gnocchi is better than theirs. We finish our meals. We wait. We wait some more. Finally, I'm done waiting and start waving our hands around so we can ask for our check. She comes to clear the plates and we ask for our check. 5 minutes, no check. 10 minutes, no check 15 minutes, no check. Attempts to wave her down equals to her avoiding eye contact and doing anything BUT come by our table. 20 minutes later, she comes with the check. Because getting ONE check is so hard and takes over 20 minutes. I think I spent more time waiting for the check than eating. Seriously, Fiat - if you can't handle a Sunday night service with one waitress, HIRE ANOTHER ONE. So you don't waste your customers' time waiting for a check. I'm swearing Fiat off from now on - and I don't care how much my sister likes this place, I am not coming back here with her. read more

I think it's awful when a restaurant is cash only and doesn't make that abundantly clear. I shouldn't have to pay a fee to get money out of an ATM when you have no sign. Soured me to the place. Food was good and easy. Had cacio e pepe. My go-to boring, but fancy comfort food. Waitress was very nice and I liked getting to sit outside.
