I couldn't miss a Houston Restaurant Week during my time in Houston! I made reservations about several days prior for two people. Parking is either valet or parking garage. If the latter, you do have to walk a few minutes inside the Saks Fifth Avenue building. As soon as you walk in, the hostess is to your immediate right with the bar to the left. Due to our reservations, we were seated immediately near the bar. I'm not sure how big this restaurant is, but the ceilings are quite high (which I like) with the glass windows. There are indoor and outdoor seating. This restaurant focuses on French, Italian, and Spanish cuisine. FOOD: Heirloom Tomato Gazpacho (1/5, Grilled Shishito Peppers, Pickled Watermelon Rind, European Cucumber): First of all, presentation was bad. Second, it didn't even taste that great.. barely any vegetable matter in this. It was liquid ketchup. I appreciated only the scant watermelon pieces. My friend was telling me how his mother made better gazpacho than this! Balsamic Glazed Short Rib (3/5, 6 oz short rib, Crispy Polenta, Frisée Salad, Lardons of Smoked Bacon, Sherry Bacon Vinaigrette): I didn't care for the cornbread (polenta). The short ribs weren't overcooked/dry. Something was still off flavor wise. Pot de Creme (3/5, Milk & White Chocolate, Meringue Crisp, Hazelnut Praline): Basically, it's classy, smooth chocolate pudding. I probably wouldn't order it again though. Service was good. Came here during Houston restaurant week and was very disappointed with the food and service. I ordered the chicken and it came out so dry and chewy I had a hard time eating it. They switched it out for the salmon which was a little better but the flavor was bland. My husband ordered the short rib and said it was too salty. I had to change out my moscato twice because there were black stuff in the wine both times. Plus the wine tasted flat so I'm pretty sure it was old wine they just kept so I decided to change for the rosalinni. The food is not worth the price. My friend and I got both the hanger steak and one plate had lots of cheese on the potato and the other didn't. We both ordered medium rare and I've of the steaks was medium. As a lover of both figs and olives, I felt like this restaurant kept calling my name every time I drove past the classy, all caps lettering and beautiful patio area. I finally found some time to visit and was able to experience a bit of everything on their menu through their Houston Restaurant Week offerings - $20/person for three courses during lunch. Two courses during lunch is usually the standard for HRW so Fig & Olive was already exceeding my expectations before I had even set foot in the restaurant. My friend and I arrived right at 11AM when they opened and were greeted by the hostess and many other employees who were passing by the hostess stand as they prepared for opening. As we were shown to our table, I noticed the large stack of easily accessible HRW menus that they pulled from - always a good sign when the restaurants are proud to be a part of this cause and make it a priority. Our server, Francisco (he had an accent but I'm pretty sure this is his name), also gave us a quick overview of the HRW menu and promptly asked us about our choice of water. He returned carrying complimentary rosemary bread with olive oil & balsamic. I really feel like the bread deserves its own paragraph because it was so soft and fluffy and the accompanying dips were phenomenal. Francisco described the oil on the left as reminiscent of what an avocado leaf smells like - this was the milder olive oil but you can definitely tell it's top quality. The oil on the right has an addicting orange flavor that paired perfectly with the 19-year old balsamic that had hints of red wine from being aged in a wine barrel I think. We received a lot of information about it and also a lot of attention from Francisco, other restaurant employees, and important-looking restaurant people in suits. They were all highly highly attentive and ensured that we absolutely enjoyed our dining experience - Fig & Olive easily tops the ranks of best service I've ever received. 1. Salmon crudo: beautiful dish with light flavors that allow you to still taste the silky salmon. I ate around the pink peppercorns but mopped up the citrus dressing and made sure each bite had a pomegranate seed on it. 2. Mosaic of vegetables: yummy veggies that taste even better with ricotta and pistachios. 3. Lamb burger: hands down the most picturesque and delicious bun I have ever had the privilege to see and taste. The lamb was cooked to a perfect medium well and the parmesan truffle fries we upgraded to were worth the extra few dollars. My friend and I agreed that a good cheese, feta AND goat in this case, make or break a burger. Didn't really care for the baby watercress side though it could have been more edible if we added some of the olive oil that came with the bread. 4. Chicken paillard salad: very generous portion of two chicken paillards that were seasoned perfectly, cooked to peak tenderness, and had an uplifting squeeze of lemon that was not unnoticed. The brussel sprout leaves were a fun way to mix up the leafy green variety and haricot vert added a nice French touch to elevate the salad. 5. Mini pot de creme: tasted and looked like a much classier version of pudding cups. 6. Dessert crostini: shortbread-like base with whipped mascarpone and fresh berries that I broke into pieces and took my time eating. Francisco brought me a fork and knife and jokingly said he "didn't want to tell me how to eat my food" though it could be eaten in one bite. read more

HRW 2018 Dinner $35 Parking can be a little confusing if you're not doing valet. The closest galleria garage would be the YELLOW GARAGE. The ramp to it is in the parking lot. You would come out near Forever 21, walk towards the elevators and make a left to Saks Fifth, and the restaurant will be on the right. (4/5): SALMON CRUDO: Beautiful presentation. The citrus dressing and pomegranate seeds paired very well with the raw salmon. I wished this dish was a little more of the chilled side. This portion may be a little small to share in my opinion but a great amount for just me. (4/5): BALSAMIC GLAZED SHORT RIB: The rib was fork tender. Delicious! Came with 2 pieces of crispy sticks of polenta. Great carb to cut through the richness (2/5): POT DE CREME: Underwhelming. My friend commented that it tasted like a pudding snack pack and I agreed. Rich but not memorable. Our server was great and very informative. I would recommend making a reservation because it was quite packed when we were done. Ours was at 5pm and we got out about 7pm. Tried for the first time after work. So it was pretty early and quiet. We just had drinks and appetizers. I had wine and I believe we had a spinach artichoke dip...sorry it was a while back. I remember the menu to be interesting. I remember the manager I believe was bartending since it was so early but he came to check on us. I had a conversation with him as he asked if I liked mixed drinks and I mentioned French 75 was my favorite and he said he made an excellent one so that's my next try. I want to go back for the full dinner experience and definitely for after work get togethers. Oh and it is very nice inside. There were a few moments when I thought this visit could go either way but it was an excellent experience overall. Friday night was very busy so be sure to make a reservation. I got there a bit early and enjoyed a rose sangria at the last bar chair available. Glad I was able to snag it! Once my friend came we went to be seated but the table wasn't ready. It was momentarily frustrating but they were passing complimentary sparkling wine to alleviate the situation. That helped :) My other moment of concern was when I saw our little table and how cramped it was. Fortunately we had nice neighbors because they were very close. In fact we had conversations with both sets of neighbors - it was very cozy. I suppose we lucked out to have the corner table with a little pillow and nook for handbags. The server was great and accommodating. We had the restaurant week menu and everything was delicious. The bread and olive oil selection = great. Loved the croquettes and appreciated the ability to get them vegetarian style. Salmon was very nicely seasoned and flavorful yet quite healthy. Loved the cauliflower rice and bold seasoning. I wasn't crazy about the citrusy purée but was able to avoid it. We tried the side option of gourmet mushrooms that were divine. For dessert, the sorbet was wonderful but small - I wish there was more of it! Everything on the menu sounded good so I look forward to trying more options next time! A few things to note: - the music was really loud. It was a bit too loud for a relaxing dinner. - was surprised at how casual the atmosphere was. Came here on a Wednesday night at 6:30 and we were 1 of 2 tables there so I really appreciated that because I'm still not terribly comfortable eating out. This was my first time there and it took my friend and I a good 15 minutes to get from the garage to the actual restaurant (didn't want to valet). I wasn't a huge fun of the menu so I asked for any specials and they had a spicy shrimp fettuccine that was delicious!! They need to add it to their menu! Had a fantastic Mafaldine pasta to go. While I normally don't order pasta when eating out, this one did not disappoint and was easily some of the best pasta I've had in my life. Paired with a mushrooms mixture, asparagus, ricotta, hazelnuts, and a light creamy sauce, this dish had a plethora of flavors blending together that worked in harmony. Great Choice for Girls Night Out during HRW So much fun. So much food. Perfectly balanced sweet and savory choices during Houston Restaurants Week (HRW). Thanks to our waiter Sandy who was attentive without being intrusive. Don't usually write about the bread (the best we have had is at Canoe in Atlanta, though), but the focaccia dipped in three different olive oils was heavenly. Seriously, you could skip the meal and savor the bread and olive oil. Make sure to try all three-the arbequina, the blood orange and Italian lemon olive oil. If you want more, buy a bottle to enjoy at home. For appetizers, we had the croquettes and the burrata, tomato and watermelon salad. Both were nice starters. The artichoke croquette was my favorite of the vegetarian options. For the main course, the salmon was perfectly cooked. Liked how you could request how well it was cooked and I had mine done medium. Crispy on the outside and cooked throughout. The side cauliflower couscous was flavorful, but should have been served warm. My friends said their brisket was melt in your mouth tender. For dessert, the milk and white chocolate Pot de Creme with a praline crumble was the perfect mini dish of chocolate goodness. The fruit crostini was beautiful and light according to my friend. Fig & Olive is one of the Galleria's newest restaurants. Since it's the Galleria mall, parking isn't easy but I parked in the complimentary lot in the basement and made my way to the restaurant. We stopped by for lunch on a weekday. Rather than being seated in the chic indoor area, we opted for the patio. Fig & Olive isn't cheap. It's a chain and even their lunch menus don't scream affordability. They are known for their crostinis so I went with the pick 3. Your crostinis are served on either a crostini, polenta crisp, or a veggie option. I went with the polenta crisp. For my pick three, I went with the shrimp, marinated pork tenderloin, and the burrata. The shrimp was served raw and I'd give it an average score. The pork tenderloin was cooked medium rare (I wasn't asked) and I'd also give it an average score. The burrata had buffalo mozzarella, tomatoes, and mixed greens. Average here as well and average overall. I also ordered a side of the crispy thin fries which were a generous portion and they were served with ketchup as a dipping sauce. Overall, a pretty good meal but one that's too expensive. Added bonus: happy hour at the bar with discounts on both food and drinks. read more

The outdoor seating is lovely especially in this fall houston weather. The accommodations for Covid such as masked waiters, online menu and distanced tables were very much appreciated. The food however was disappointing. Apart from the crostini, which were delicious, interesting and full of flavor and the shrimp pasta, everything else was lacking or bland. The grilled octopus was great but the sauce was bland and the chick peas were stale. The truffle risotto was good but overpriced for a tiny portion. The chicken tagine was the biggest disappointment as we were expecting it to be the star of the meal seeing as it's so aromatic and flavorful in Morocco or Spain. We had to send it back as it just didn't taste like anything. Not sure if we'll return. read more

Been here a few times. Took a while to be greeted at the door. When we were seated the table we initially sat at was still dirty with water rings and crumbs on the table and booth. We just moved to another table next to us that was clean. Mentioned it to the host but she never came back to clean the dirty table. Came during lunch time looking for something light. I was dying to try this place since it's opened here in the heart of Houston! I've heard many great things about this place so I decided to plan a date here. (We kind of got lost looking for this place, but it's located in the Galleria near Saks 5th.) I didn't know this place was that upscale, but you're not allowed to wear certain hats in here because it's "company policy". We then were not allowed to sit inside, so they moved us outside. The service was still great, everyone was super nice. The tables outside were splitting up for other customers that were coming in in small groups, so the food runners kept giving us the wrong food for a good 30 minutes. --EL MATADOR - (3/5) I started off with this drink, it was super strong, spicy (which I like), but it needed a little more sweetener in there. I also substituted the tequila with vodka. We got 6 different crostini's 3 were signatures and 3 were chef's selection 3 Chef Selection: --FOIE GRAS (x2) - (5/5) I personally enjoy most foie gras, this was more of a "pate" like foie gras. My bf did not enjoy this, so I ended up eating 2 of these. The foie gras was smooth, soft, kinda thicker than I expected, but it was just a nice creamy taste and paired with sweetness of the fig jam. --TRUFFLE (5/5) - This had artichoke, parmesan, macerated truffle dressing. If you've ever gone to Italy they have this caviar looking mushroom truffle in a jar and it is absolutely amazing with crostini's which thats what they topped it with. Explosion in your mouth! 3 Signature: --PROSCIUTTO - (3/5) Your basic prosciutto with your crostini, nothing special I tasted in this. --FOREST MUSHROOM - (5/5) I liked this one better than the chef selection of "truffle". They're almost the same, but this one had a much more simple distinct taste to it. --SHRIMP - (4/5) Light crostini, with shrimp, avacado, cilantro, and tomato's. It was a refreshing one! Appetizers: --HAMACHI CRUDO - (3/5) The fish was refreshing, but I can barely taste it because they really drowned this dish with olive oil. It was so strong that every bite was just overpowering by the basil olive oil. (Really stood up to their name) --BEEF CARPACCIO - (2/5) Very thin sliced beef, with oil, black pepper, and tomato's. I could really pass on this next time, the meat had no flavor, it was fresh, but I didn't taste anything. Main Entree: SEAFOOD RISSOTO - (1/5) I knew I should have gotten the mushroom risotto! But I wanted my bf to choose the entree since I chose everything else. This dish had fish, octopus, seared scallop, and the risotto of course. He wanted something with seafood, but for some reason I knew this wasn't going to be my top choice. I had a few bites of this and I was pretty much done. I let my bf eat the rest of it and he too felt what I felt, but he was just trying to finish it since we paid for it. Towards the end of it, all the risotto was still there. If you really like that fishy taste, then by all means this would be the dish for you. The risotto was drenched in the fishy taste, it was a plate of the ocean (literally). Our server offered us to switch the entree but we were pretty much full, so we just said it was okay. The server then said he would see if the manager could get it off the bill and they had said no, which was fine. So then he offered us free dessert. We decided this strawberry dessert which was amazing, I LOVED the merengue with the ice cream and fresh strawberries. I could pass on the muddled strawberries at the bottom. All of the meals are made with fig and/or olive in the ingredients so that's pretty cool. We had a 3-course meal at the event. What I ordered is listed below: Appetizer: Mushroom Croquette- truffle aioli and Parmesan Main Course: Rivera Salmon- parsnip lemon thyme purée, salsify & organic mushroom, salsify chips, and caper sauce Dessert: Pot De Creme- milk & white chocolate, meringue crisp & praline I really enjoyed the appetizer and the dessert. The Truffle Mushroom Fontina is basically scrambled eggs with creamy mushrooms that do not fill you up. IT IS AMAZING, but not worth $18! The Truffle Fries were also a hit for our table. I love that they grate the parmesan, which leaves behind not perfect grated pieces of cheese, but barks of it. For my cocktail, I had the rosselini and the rosé sangria. TO DIE FOR. I was so excited to finally try this place for a friends birthday brunch. It's located right next door to Nobu in the galleria. Walking in, this place is sooo cute and classy. I loved the live instrumental music being played, and the employees were so welcoming and sweet. They took us to our table where my friend had reserved a table for about 10 girls. We sat down, and our server, Stacy, was so accommodating and wonderful. He made sure to explain the menu to each and every person who's first time it was being there. He was so polite, fast, and I would highly recommend him for anyone going here with a big group. The menu had so many choices to choose from, I was so over whelmed because I didn't know what I wanted. Everything sounded delicious, and there were so many options. They brought out fresh bread to the table which was so good, it came with 3 different variations of olive oils you had the choice of dipping your bread in. They each had such different flavors running through them which I loved. Now for the food!! Here is what my friends and I ended up ordering: - I got the steak and eggs (highly recommend for those who love steak). THIS WAS SO DELICIOUS. It was a tad bit over priced ($24.00) but it was the perfect portion for someone like me. I feel like someone with a huge appetite wouldn't get full off of this. But it was perfect for me. It came on a bed of thinly sliced crispy potato's, steak cooked to your liking on top of the potatoes, topped with egg cooked any way you would like. I got mine scrambled. It was perfection. - Avocado toast- my friend got this and loved it! - French Toast- two of my friends shared this and said it was very tasty. - Salmon burger with fries- very big portion - Parmesan truffle fries- so fresh, crispy, and delicious! I'll be nice because this place just opened, so with any new place it's the service that takes a minute to come to speed. I'll only dock one star for this because the food really was excellent. But man do they need to speed up because 2 hours for just 2 apps, one entree, and a dessert for 2 people is a long. Long. Time. And the issue wasn't how long it took for the food to come out. The problem was how long it took the server to do simple things like take our drink/food/dessert orders. After a good meal, I almost forgot about how delicious the food was because we were held hostage, waiting and waiting for our receipt so we could finally leave. The bar was pretty slow with our drinks and the kitchen forgot one of our orders. And this was a Monday night meal. Monday. Not a weekend. And not super busy. But enough whining and on to the DELICIOUS FOOD. - Crostinis: quaint and delicious way to start a meal. The mushroom had a yummy umami flavor, the manchego had a light sweetness to it, and the Prosciutto and fig go so well together. Will be coming back to try the chef's crostini selection when I'm with someone who's not averse to foie gras. - Hamachi Crudo: even though they forgot to serve us this dish until after the entree, it was no less amazing. It's a nice thick cut of fish bathing in a delicious olive oil sauce. Will order this every time - Truffle Risotto: SCALLOPS. Just add scallops to EVERYTHING because they big and beautiful and some of the best scallops I have ever had on this great planet. The risotto had a good texture with a light hint of truffle. - Dessert flight: all places should offer a taste of mini desserts when they have so many good ones to choose from. There's enough of each dessert here for 2 people to share. Loved this one. I'll give Fig and Olive another try in a few months. Hopefully their service issues are ironed out by then. read more

Fig and Olive is a nice surprise in the Galleria. Drove by and saw that Fig and Olive is open and came in for a lunch. The lunch starts with several different olive oils and bread. Olive oil infused with orange was particularly good although I found out later that it was not cold pressed. Good nonetheless! Appetizer was crostini special 3 for $13. They were meant to be shared and for two people it is just about right. For one it would be perhaps too much. I recommend prosciutto crostini in particular. Main course was Fig and Olive salad with extra added blue cheese and grilled chicken. It was just right, and the fusion of different flavors was fantastic. White chocolate mousse for dessert with coffee was a wonderful ending to a nice dinning experience! read more

I thought it would be more packed but there was plenty of seating for Saturday brunch. The restaurant is a part of the galleria but only accessible from the outside, next to the Saks Fifth Avenue. They must not have announced they were opened yet--they didn't even appear as a location when my friend tried to check in! Our waiter was nice and kept checking on us. We did take our time since we were having girl talk. We heard the restaurant is most known for their crostinis so we shared 6 and pretty much tried all of them. There is a more expensive selection that isn't included with the set. We were recommended the French toast and octopus carpaccio which we ordered. The French toast is gigantic and pretty tasty. The octopus was also good and something I don't typically see. I ordered the quinoa salad which was regretfully tasteless. I wanted a light meal since I wanted to save room for dinner, however I really wished it was more flavorful. Along with our food they serve focaccia bread with samples of three of their infused olive oils, so I used some of those to try to give my salad more flavor. read more

What a classy, fun spot for a casual happy hour! Right when you enter the restaurant, you can tell it's a great ambience. They had cute winter decorations up with candles in the back. There's more than enough room to sit comfortably. For context, we were there at around 4pm on a Tuesday, which is the start of their happy hour. Before the meal, your waiter will bring the starter breads with three olive oils. I wasn't a fan of the olive oil with the orange notes. The orange was a bit too strong for olive oil. The bread was good. If you request the vinegar, you'll be treated with a sweet, almost "jammy" vinegar made in-house. The happy hour is incredible. For $10 you can get a large cheese and charcutterie board. I didn't particularly enjoy the meats. The cheeses were great. For the drinks, the El Matador cocktail and the Pinot Grigio were my favorites. The sliders are a must-have, and the fries were some of the best fries I've had. The waiter was one of the best. Where do I start ? The ambiance is spectacular. It's a great mix of Mediterranean with a French twist. Both choices of inside or outside dining is ideal. I appreciated the intimate lounge seat outside , many couples dined in thee area for the perfect date layout. We ordered : -Signature crostini with the selection of mushroom ,goat cheese and marinated shrimp. This was a must have ! These shareable delight sets the palette for the flavors that the restaurant has to offer. I'd highly recommend all new guests to try it prior to ordering your entree. - the cocktail beverage of choice was the Rosellini. The best way to describe this is simply a blood orange Martini. The blood orange was caramelized making it the perfect edible garnish . If you're interested in a sweet drink with a kick I'd recommend ! - The truffle fries (not pictured ) were also a good snack. They are served with a side of ketchup and real authentic Parmesan cheese grates. - A staple of this restaurant are their salads. I literally saw most guest accompanying a fresh cut salad. To our surprise , this was the entree selection for all of my party. We ordered the fig and olive salad , the shrimp and salmon salad and the salade de poulet. Simply amazing. The ingredients paired with the homemade dressing set out taste buds on fire. What I enjoyed the most about their salads was that the ingredients were paired eloquently. The dressings were not overbearing and made it easy to taste every vegetable. On top of the great food , the service was superb. It's sad that I am writing this review because I originally had a great experience here. However, my most recent visit to Fig & Olive was so terrible that I won't be coming back. I came here originally with another couple, and I had a great time. Though the menu was limited due to covid, the food was still great and the ambience was nice. Our server was also amazing. However, the most recent time I came for a birthday party and with our party of about ~15, we ordered plenty of drinks/food. At the end, we got our bill and saw that $3.50 was charged per person for cake service- so roughly 52 dollars. We brought our own birthday cake and we didn't even ask for them to cut the cake or anything, just to store it in the fridge while we ate dinner. My biggest issue isn't even that they charged us, it's that no one thought to tell us that there would be a cake fee per person to store the cake. I understand that they have to bring out extra forks/plates to serve the cake and I am appreciative of that...but it would have been nice for them to let us know that there would be charges for this service. I have been to many restaurants, and have NEVER been charged a cake fee. I asked the server about this cake fee, and got redirected to the manager. The main reason I don't want to come back is because the manager handled the situation so rudely. Instead of being empathetic to the issue, he stated rudely that "Every restaurant charges a cake fee" and I should "not be surprised that these fees weren't mentioned". I was honestly in shock that he talked to our table this way. Being in the customer service industry myself, I would have at least been more courteous even if I couldn't do anything about the fees. I chose Fig and Olive for a small intimate bridal shower for my sister and it did not disappoint whatsoever! Fig and Olive is located in the Galleria close to Nobu. As soon as we were seated our waitress Anna B. greeted us and made us feel welcome and comfortable. I brought in a outside cake and a few decorations for the table which was no problem, Anna actually helped me set everything up! The restaurant itself is really beautiful and so perfect for Instagram post. The rosemary and parmesan fries were good but the french toast was EVERYTHING!!! Omg so basically it's 3 perfectly fried brioche squares topped with a light meringue, toasted almonds and fresh berries! I absolutely love french toast and this is definitely in my top 3. There is also a beautiful grass wall outside for photos which is definitely a plus in my book! I highly recommend! read more

Wow! Was looking for a brunch spot and feel upon this gem. Not from the area so the mall is quite intense and amazing. Decided to go light as precious meals had been heavier. The ambience is amazing, spacious, modern decor, and friendly staff with in door and outdoor seating. Started the morning with a red wine, why not I'm on vacation. Enjoyed the crostini and mushroom croquette, literally died with every bite of the mushroom. Definitely a spot to check out, wish I visited more often. read more

A very pretty restaurant. Food was good. Service was great. My wife and daughter loved the atmosphere. I liked it too. The interesting thing is the elegant bar had football on TV and draft beer. We will be back. Good spot for everyone. read more
