Fire Wings in Downey is just that, Fire. I've seen it all the time when I'm around in the Promenade, but I never thought to stop until today. Glad I finally did. The Dragon Wings have just the right amount of zing, and the Sweet Chili is that perfect mix of sweet and spicy. The wings were crispy, juicy, and sauced up just right. The staff was very friendly, which always makes the experience better. It's self seating, with plenty of space. Prices are good, portions are solid, and the parking is easy since it's right in the Downey Promenade. It's an awesome addition to the other restaurants here. This place is in the midst of a plethora of restaurants within the Promenade in Downey, however it had caught my attention. Right before I walked in, I noticed a couple people with the garlic fries (I believe) and they looked delicious. I've looked at the pictures that other people posted on Yelp and their food consistenly looked amazing so it took me about a good five minutes before deciding what I wanted to order. I ended up getting the Nashville Fire chicken sandwich combo, but something caught my attention, something quaint that I don't see from other chains: they offered chili cheese (tater) tots. So instead of getting the fries, I substituted them to get those instead. When I got my food, I was impressed at how meaty the chicken was. I liked how it wasn't skimpy and the portion was large. Overall, the sandwich tasted pretty good. The chili cheese tots are what stood out to me though. The taste of the coalescence of flavors was amazing! It's a nice change from chili cheese fries and it shows ingenuity. The only thing I'd say is I wish the tray was just slightly bigger, and a little more cheese. The only reason why I'm giving this place four stars instead of five is because one of the cashiers did something that I thought was a bit odd and unnecessary. Located in Downey Landing, this is another chicken place in the crowded chicken market. The location is prime real-estate. You can make a special trip here or eat after a full day of shopping. Easy in and easy out. This place serves beer with their wings and has a bar where you can sit to enjoy both. The music is played a bit too loud, making it difficult to have a conversation. Also, you you don't appreciate rap with inappropriate lyrics, you may not want to make this a family dining experience. You can get away from a little bit of it by sitting outside but you will need to sit through tasteless music that is better left elsewhere. We can to try this place out. As much as we have a "go to" place for wings, we still will try others to assure we love our favorite spot. Well, this place reassured us that we have nothing to worry about. We got the family pack with 20 wings. That allowed us to try 3 flavors. We decided on lemon pepper, BBQ Chipotle and sweet n sour. All three were a bit bland and disappointing in flavor and all wrapped up in chicken that was less than memorable. Not a great way to drop $40 + fountain drinks. The redeeming part of the meal were the fries. Most chicken places have mushy fries. These were seasoned and cooked to crispy perfection. I've always driven past Fire Wings but I never actually went inside. Well, today was the day everyone. It was a really rainy day when I went and the customer service was great. They asked me how I was doing since the weather wasn't particularly the best and I felt immediately welcomed. I ordered the 8 Piece Wing Combo: Fire Wing & Thai Chili with Buffalo Sauce. I'm a huge fan of spicy food so I went with Fire Wings and balanced it out with the Thai Chili. To be honest, I didn't find the fire that spicy because I think my spice tolerance is a little too high but it still had a kick to it and tasted great with the buffalo sauce. However, I definitely liked the Thai Chili a lot more. The batter was thicker so it had more of a crunch and the sweet chili sauce coated every inch of it. The green onions also cut the sweetness of it by adding a slight tang. I finished this all off with some Fire Fries which were topped with Buffalo sauce and either House sauce or ranch I'm not sure. Either way, the fries were crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside with a great balance of salt to pair with all the sauces on top. I was surprised by how much I liked this. I was also surprised that such a thing as carrot ketchup existed. I can't say I liked it or would replace it with regular ketchup but I had fun taste-testing it. read more

For me personally dry rub is my least favorite, due to the seasoning being lighter. I absolutely loved the Thai chili and Saigon street out of the 4 I tried. The Irvine location is closest to me, but I happened to be running errands in a neighboring city. This new location is located in a very busy shopping plaza. Conveniently (or not) located next to a 24-Hour Fitness and a movie theater. I'm a fatty at heart and would love to have wings as a post workout meal, haha. We ordered the following: Garlic Noodles, Peanut Butter Wings, Thai Chili Wings, and Peking Wings. Trust me, for the wings you do want to try at least one of these or the other available fusion flavors. My take on the food? - Garlic Noodles: I recommend getting this to accompany your wings (if you get wings). These carbs are cooked al dente and have a good flavor. They're not overpowering. - Peanut Butter Wings: This flavor is different for sure, but is super good. - Thai Chili Wings: My favorite of the 3 flavors that we had ordered. A little sweet with a hint of spice, it just hits your taste buds just right. - Peking Wings: No joke, eating these will make you want to grab a bowl of white rice to compliment it. The flavor makes you think you're suddenly in a Chinese restaurant. It's good. New wing spot in town and finally decided to give it a try and it has been a disappointment unfortunately. My entire meal was over-fried.... Ordered buffalo wings and i did not taste no buffalo only butter, these were lacking sauce. Chipotle bbq wings were great in taste, but same case with wings being over fried making it hard to enjoy. My fries were also over-fried and unfortunately ended only eating about half of these. Staff is friendly and working their best to get orders taken care of for dine-in and pickup orders. I came for the soft opening on recommendation of a couple friends who knew the co-owner, Van, and I'm glad I listened! The place is smack in the middle of a busy shopping center and in front of a 24 Hr Fitness and Cinemark, so parking was an expected struggle. Past that, there's lot's to like about this Fire Wings: -There's lots of indoor and outdoor seating! Group seating galore! -Plenty of big screen TVs by the bar seating to catch sports as they happen. -The owners/co-owners are super involved in the restaurant's ops, but are super friendly and chatty! Van was chatting it up with all the customers, making sure things were how we liked it and was super passionate in sharing his dream being realized with this restaurant! -There's beer on tap, as well as a soda machine with refills to your sweet tooth's content. -The menu is EXTENSIVE. Almost reads like a chicken encyclopedia with all the flavors and meal combos. -Lastly, the food. My goodness, chain restaurant chicken wings just don't taste the same after coming here. After much indecision, I got the 6 piece mango habanero with fries and drink combo. It blew my expectations away! The smothered wings were big, super crunchy outside and super juicy inside. The mango habanero sauce was tangy and sweet, with just the right amount of heat kick to it. The fries were super crispy and paired super well with the wings. Came to try out this location because a friend told me about it. I feel like every city should have a great wing location that's got wet and dry wings! I've tried quite a few locations near my home so I can say this place is comparable with great crunch texture on the outside of the wing and juicy delicious meat on the inside. The thai street flavor is my favorite from this first tasting. Definitely recommend coming for their monday and tuesday wing promotions and if you have a preference on flats or drums you can always request it when you order with a small surcharge. My only comment on change is chili had too much beans, but that's personal opinion. Someone else may love that amount, but ratio of ground meat to bean was slightly off for me. We didn't order extra sauce or sauce on the side, so we were shocked when we got home and opened the boxes to wings that didn't have the same color or any trace of sauce under them. Thought we were given the wrong order for a second. - Dry. Wings were kinda dry-- probably because they were too small and were overcooked. Honestly, the wings still tasted good, it's not like they went bad or anything. But it was very disappointing that it wasn't up to par in regards to the reputation Fire Wings has built for itself. I saw pictures of the wings from other reviewers just from a few days ago that look "normal" so either yesterday was a fluke, or they intentionally gave us lower quality wings (for take out) hoping we wouldn't know any better.
