I try to stay away from large chain restaurants, but with now working in Natomas that can sometimes be a challenge when it comes to lunch time! To my surprise, Firehouse Subs came through with one hell of a sandwich! I ordered online, and my sub was ready for pick-up within 10 minutes. I had the New York Steamer, loaded with brisket, pastrami, provolone, mustard, mayo and Italian dressing. I went with a large (because my eyes are always bigger than my stomach!) and it fed me for the entire day. The bread was fresh, and the meat plentiful and mouth watering. At $8, you certainly get big bang for your buck! If you happen to be a hot sauce connoisseur, they have about 50 to choose from. I took about 5 samples in to go cups! I'm seeing this franchise pop up all over the place. This place is really big with a few tvs on to watch, but every time I've walked by the seats are not filled. I hope this place can survive because there is a lot of competition for franchise locations in Natomas, and even within this shopping center. The sandwich I had was good with quite a bit of meat and a number of add-on for free options, but it's pricey for a sandwich. I've been here several times and it's always clean, with friendly employees. The owner is pleasant and seems to be very present and invested in the business. He brought my daughter a fire hat and balloon, a thoughtful gesture that she definitely appreciated. They had abacuses next to the highchairs, I thought that was very helpful to parents of small children. Our sandwiches were made as we ordered them, came out quickly, piping hot, with bread that was soft and fresh. I ordered two sandwiches today, ONLINE! The online ordering is simply amazing. Website is a breeze to navigate with tons of pictures for referencing. I decided on one cold sandwich and one of the hot specialty sandwich. My order was the tuna salad sandwich and the firehouse meatball sandwich. Medium size (6 inches) on average goes for $6.50, but for just $2 more you can upsize any sandwiches to a large (foot long). You also have an option to DOUBLE the meat filling for just $2, I felt my sandwich was already filled plentiful but that option is a plus. I like to judge submarine sandwich places by their tuna salad as my first sandwich choice. A simple mixture of tuna, celery, onion, mayo and seasoning is something that I will always crave from time to time. Base on how the sub shop season the mixture is what I look for. I find a good tuna salad mixture one that is not too sour nor salty. Firehouse's tuna salad was a little bit more sour than my liking, but the ratio between the mayo and tuna was just right. For the Firehouse Meatball, I thought it didn't look as impressive as the picture online but then again the sandwich was packed for togo and was sitting for maybe 5 minutes before I got there. The taste of it was something else though. Not only did it smell amazing but the marinara sauce with the soft tender meatball was beyond amazing. Best meatball sub so far! I absolutely love how clean this location is, I truly wish this sub shop was located near my home instead of the chain Subway. My online transaction was such a walk in the park. You have the option to pay online with credit or to pay in store. I opted for the former to save both my time and theirs. All I had to do was show up, give them my name and I was on my way. I love sandwiches, so obviously I had to go check out the new sandwich shop in town at my earliest convenience. As I have never visited this particular chain before I had pulled up the menu online at home and headed off with my choice selected. I found it interesting that the majority of their sandwiches are served "hot" and they only have a couple "cold" subs (tuna and chicken salad), unlike a Togo's that has about an equal number of "hot" vs. "cold" subs. So if you're looking for a sub with cold meat, apparently this isn't your place. The place is pretty big inside (I think it used to previously be two businesses in this location and they knocked down the wall) and there's even outside seating. I ended up ordering the medium-sized New York Steamer (corned beef brisket and pastrami) and the wife chose the medium-sized Club on a Sub (turkey, ham, & bacon). When the sandwiches arrived they seemed a little on the small side, which had me wishing I had upsized it to a large for $2 more, but it was quite filling and very tasty. The bread was good too and different than other sandwich shops. When my wife examined her club sandwich, she noticed that it was missing the bacon. The lady who brought the sandwiches asked if we wanted to have it fixed but we were in a bit of a hurry so we told her not to worry about it. She ended up coming back to our table a little later and apologized and dropped off a couple free brownies, which was very thoughtful. Although the sandwiches were pretty good, the best part was that they had 2 of those new-fangled "Coca-Cola Freestyle" machines where you can pick your drink from dozens of options. OMFG. HOT SAUCE HEAVEN !!!!! Okay, i'm hot sauce obsessed. My friend & I were planning on hitting up Chipotle next door until I got out of my car and got a whiff of the grilled goodness! I was like "have you been there..?" and she was like "No, lets check it out..". So we did. I walked in and saw about 30+ hot sauces on a rack near the entrance, which are all labeled from 1-10 based off of the spice level, 1 being mild and 10 being the hottest. I felt like a kid in a candy store. It was amazing. So now to the sandy. I am not a meat eater so I ordered the veggie with 3 different cheeses (cheddar, provolone and monterey jack), grilled onions, mushrooms, fresh onions, tomato, lettuce, jalapenos & mayo. Also, asked for the BBQ sauce on the side. OMG it was delicious ! The cheeses were so nicely melted with the peppers and onions and the contrast of the warm and the cool combined was delightful. I added some of the 'Lotties Barbados' (#9) hot sauce to the sandwich along with some BBQ sauce. It was a total of $9.something with the combo (chips and drink). Brought my 10 year old granddaughter in last Saturday for the annual water bottle drive Firehouse Subs advertised trying to teach her a civic duty lesson for a good cause. We had talked about the fires that are currently in progress. She seemed proud to donate the case of water but I was kind of surprised that the employee just grabbed it from us without even as much as a thank you or even an acknowledgement of her effort. One word... delicious. I've had my fair share of subs from Subway, Quizno's, etc... but these are damn delicious. When I ate here the first time, I was looking to get a low carb option. I came back after a training out in the field so I'm in my fire department shirt, backpack and whatnot and off the bat they tell me that I get a free large soda. So take note FIRE DEPARTMENT PEOPLE.... You get a free large soda here! I look at the soda machine and it's one of those touch screen fancy soda dispensers with like 100 different options. Alright, maybe not 100... but a TON. So I order a beef cheddar brisket sandwich minus the bun to make it low carb... and that thing was heaven on earth for the low carb nut like me. They even nicely decorated it for me and were super accommodating to my request. Overall, they were great to me that first time. Now.... for my second time. I go there 2 weeks later order the same thing, but full on sandwich. Oh the flavor explosion in my mouth. The meat doesn't taste like your normal cheap thin chain meat. The brisket was actually flavorful and delicious and didn't taste like it was cheap at all. They add some of their sweet and tangy BBQ sauce and melt that cheddar on it and BOOM. Disappointed. This was my 1st time eating here and will probably be my last. I asked for a simple sandwich of only pastrami, cheese and mustard. When I got back to work my sandwich was covered in mayo on both sides, hardly any mustard and all the produce (lettuce, tomato and onion). My first visit here was kind of underwhelming. I was really excited to try this place after I saw it was up and running, mainly because I have been in the area for 3 years and was looking forward to somethkng new to have. Well, I got the turkey bacon ranch. It is supposed to have come with a pickle on the side, it did not. The ranch is supposedly a peppercorn ranch. I was expecting to taste ranch AND pepper but neither of them are tastable. Kinda of disappointing. My friend's son liked his grilled cheese. The kids meal however did come out incorrectly. It's funny when looking through the reviews about this place and seeing people give the place one star for the simplest and also the stupidest things. As I'm a frequent customer, I can tell you that the employees are very entertaining and very pleasant to talk too. People need to understand that not everything is going to be perfect, and mistakes happen. If the employee is respectful to you, be polite to them. Don't get butt hurt over the fact that the worker gave you attitude because of your tone in your voice or the vibes that you might present. Think about this: how would you feel if you were the employee and I was the customer, and you might say, "well, they have to learn how to control their emotions" we are all humans, not machines. When I walked in, it was clear this was a popular place to stop for lunch I told the cashier that it was my first time, so she recommended the smokehouse beef & cheddar brisket. I was then filled in on all the sizes and the breakdown of how ordering went in a quick polite manner. Nice. I tend to be in the mood for a sandwich very rarely. One too many disappointing Subway experiences, I guess. When I do eat a sandwich, I gravitate toward places like Togo's or the Sandwich Spot, places where the meat to bread ratio is heavy on the meat side. I liked what I saw on the menu for Firehouse Subs and I liked the added twist that the sandwiches are steamed, so I broke from my sandwich moratorium and tried them out. I had the New York Steamer. I can't turn down corned beef or pastrami, much less when their powers combine. I expected the bread to be soft, and it was, but I was happily surprised by how juicy the meat was. Normally you have to put condiments on a sandwich to give it moisture, but the meat itself in this case was plenty moist. The sandwich was really good, but I'm glad I ate it there... not the kind of sandwich you take to go unless you like soggy, lukewarm sandwiches? They have really great bread, but the mushrooms on my sandwich tasted kind of like canned mushrooms. I've waited awhile for this place to open and it really isn't the greatest that everybody is saying it is. First off, you walk in and are greeted by a friendly staff and steamy inside. The steam builds up inside the whole restaurant, it's a bit of an annoyance, I guess that's why it's called Firehouse Subs. The staff was great, so that's a plus. I went to order my food, the Steak and Cheese to be exact, and got confused on why my order wasn't matching what was priced on the menu board, then my mom ordered, same exact thing, it didn't match up. We were actually being charged two dollars more each order, so have they been over charging since they opened and no one caught on? Hopefully they fixed it, the manager was nice enough to give us a free sub for the next visit, if there ever is one. There's only two choices of bread, wheat and white, really? You'd figure they have more choices besides that. The only choices I got when going there was from the soda machine and the sauces, other than that, I'll stick to Subway, Togo's, or even the Chipotle next door. I ordered the large, and was expecting a large, once again, disappointed and let me add, there wasn't that much meat on it to begin with.
