Sandwiches are fine, problem is the staff. How hard is it to place the to-go orders in the rack? Another guy and I stood there waiting at least ten minutes for our orders to be placed in the rack (there were orders in the rack when i arrived, but not mine), when it turns out the whole time, the orders were sitting on top of some appliance behind the counter. Had lunch at firehouse subs the other day ordered the Philly cheesesteak sandwich everything on it. I wish I could say it was tasty but it was rather bland. The bread was fresh people were friendly the restaurant was clean. Put it simply after eating the lunch I paid a pretty penny for I would down the street and had another lunch somewhere else. It's kind of a bit like Subway you're not going to get a lot of food. So I guess if you're not hungry if you like bland hospital like food this may be the place for you. read more

Yummy in my tummy! Amazing service and delicious food to match!!! Their subs are warm and toasty and oh so satisfying! I had the turkey and cranberry, and it's served on a smaller roll, and it was definitely more than enough to fill me up. They had a ton of sauces to put on your food, which was really cool. There's not a ton of seating, so probably best to take your food to go, but it's cute inside. I love that they were founded by fire fighters, and that they give back to fire stations. read more

I really enjoy sandwiches and I have tried a lot of different spots in San Jose but hands down this is the best place I have been to for a sandwhich. I was shopping in the plaza the first time and I saw this place and they looked like they were open so my boyfriend and I stopped by. However there was a both outside with an employee at it who said that it was just an opening for the employees and there family/friends and that we should come back next week for the official grand opening and he gave us two vouchers for a free medium sub that had no expectation date, and I felt like that was really excellent customer service and they weren't even open yet! Now the two times I have been in there my experience has been great! The first time I ate there and while eating one the employees approached me and asked how my sandwich was tasting. The second time I was in line and one the employees started to recommend sandwiches to my boyfriend, I thought it was super friendly and and really great customer service. They are not understaffed which is a plus! Most sandwich places have one person making sandwiches and a long line which always sucks! When you order multiple sandwiches they individual place both sandwiches in a box and number them in the order that they were ordered in, I mean that's great. Honestly, this is my new go to sandwich place. It is way better and more fresh tasting then Togo's and Subway. I hope they open more chains and take down the monopoly subway and Togo's has in San Jose. *update 4/7/2017* I am removing one star because recently they have started to mess up on mu order every time I come in. I ordered the smokehouse beef and cheddar brisket with mushrooms (a little over a dollar extra) and my g.f. ordered the steak and cheese with extra peppers. Unfortunately the sandwiches much more so here than mine came out so sauced up that they overwhelmed the bread to the point that they were basically soggy messes. Between the two we both agreed that the beef and cheddar is much better tasting than the steak and cheese which is a very poor attempt at a cheesesteak. Was first turned on to Firehouse Subs last summer during a trip to Casa Grande in Arizona. The prices were reasonable, food was great, service was prompt and employees were very pleasant. Needless to say I expected great things when I heard they were opening a Firehouse Subs in San Jose. Sadly, none of my expectations were met. Employees seem disinterested, food preparation is lackluster, no pride in their sandwich making, and don't get me started on the prices. The "small" (supposedly 4 inches) is not even a large enough serving to feed a two year old. I measured it and it was 3". And oh by the way that cost over $6! If you want a "medium" sub (about the size of a 6" at Subway) its over $10! Plus another $3 to make it a combo. I know it's San Jose but that's ridiculous. And plan on eating outside when you are there as the entire eatery is always filled with smoke. You think they would have a better ventilation system. I feel bad for the employees that have to breathe that in all day. You are way better off getting a nice deli sandwich from Los Gatos Meats or Zannottos. Waaaay bigger serving, better ingredients, and cheaper price to boot. read more

Let's start with the positives. Customer service was great! Everyone was super welcoming. The place is clean & there's enough space to sit when it's not busy. As far as food, that area needs improvement. It wasn't bad. Just wasn't impressive. Could have made a more flavorful sandwich at home. We ordered the cheesesteak & the turkey bacon. For the price the quality def wasn't up to par. Also ordered the chili which was probably my least favorite. Lacking flavor & a little dry. Overall, I'll probably go back again once they improve.
