We made a reservation, and then I checked out the reviews and got nervous because they recently were all 1 star, but we had a great time! My date and I had a very friendly server, and had a good time! We ordered a couple of beers, we poured them ourselves from the can/bottle to offered glasses (a normal thing,) and we ordered the giant pretzel. It was HUGE! It came with a warm cheese and a mustard dipping sauce - the mustard was delicious. These cheese was also good, but I am a mustard gal. Everyone on staff was masked, and I felt completely covid safe. Having read the past reviews, I can only assume that the people who made 1 star reviews were making a fuss because their pandemic experience may not be the same experience that they had pre-pandemic. Confession time (dun dun dunnnn): I was a little wary of this as our dinner spot when my Dad suggested it based on the mixed Yelp reviews, but honestly we had a great time and few things could have been made it more perfect. We went on a weekday night and sat in the dining room near the fireplace. They were able to accommodate a group of us comfortably, no problem. Our waitress was wonderful! She was nice, thorough, patient, and attentive from the very start. Our food and drinks came out in no time at all. The food was a mixed lot, and the only reason for 4 stars instead of 5. Let me be clear: we probably ordered half of their menu between all of us (exaggerating) and we're talking about the difference between "not bad" and "outstanding", nothing worse than that at all. On one hand, I found their homemade fish and potato chips to be one of the best I've ever had...and I've partaken in my fair share of Friday night fish fries a la Wisconsin and Chicago in general. Their tartar sauce was wonderful. Hubby would have divorced me and married their chicken tenders right there on the spot if he could have. On the other, hubby's turkey club was lackluster and my sister's fries were soggy. The shrimp appetizer left a lot to be desired. The veggie side tasted like it came from a can...you get the idea. So, I would absolutely be back, and I'd absolutely recommend you try it out; I would just be selective about what try. Best bets: fish and chips, rueben, roasted chicken, chicken tenders, and desserts! Pro tip: wear your elastic pants. These folks don't mess around with the portions! read more

This place is great. The food, reasonable prices, great drink selection and decor. The only problem ofcourse, is one worker. Bartender Sarah M directly called me out on how much I tipped her, and she stared me down 3 times; you just can't do that. She barely did the minimum anyway, and she showed how unprofessional she is. It's not like there wasn't a tip, or if there was a rude message; even then, it's wrong. It's too bad that even the nicer joints get the not so good workers; someone like that can really chase away customers. Otherwise come. It's a great place. read more

Used to have onions, good grilled chicken, and plenty of mozzarella cheese. Oh, and they will NOT honor any coupons on the old menu. I wish I liked this place. The restaurant itself is someplace you just want to like but unfortunately that just isn't the case. The two times I've been to Fireside have just been an all around dismal experience. First off there is rarely anyone manning the door even though there's a sign saying "Please Wait To Be Seated". So you stand there....and stand there and yep...stand there so more until...hey...someone finally walks by and sees customers standing there. Either hire a host or just make it a "Seat Yourself" type restaurant because nothing gets me pissier than having to wait in a restaurant that doesn't even have a line! Menu as I said looks great. They have all these tasty options that you just can't wait to try but when you do boy are you disappointed. Been there twice and none of the entrees that I've ordered or the people that have gone with me have ordered were memorable or even good for that matter. I went here for dinner yesterday and couldn't remember why we never came back after the first time. They have a cool back patio and that's it. The appetizers were mediocre at best and the entrées are absolutely horrible. Service is also slow and inattentive. We have tried the bronzed shrimp and chicken wings for appetizers. The sauces were nothing to write home about but good enough to eat. The shrimp and the wings were over done and the meat consistency was tough and drier than desired. We had burger with bacon (asked to cook temp to medium rare), catfish, and meatloaf for entrées. Everything was so overcooked and underseasoned. We sent back the burger after showing it's super well done when we requested medium rare The 2nd attempt's burger was medium well and super dry. Pouring bbq sauce couldn't save it. Meatloaf tasted like cardboard and super dry topped with canned crushed tomato sauce. The sides were super over cooked to a point where it had a greyish tint. Only tastier sides were french fries and sweet potato tots. Waitress didn't check up with us on how our 2nd burger was. She didn't refill our empty water glasses, didn't ask if we wanted another beer/drink, and didn't ask if we wanted dessert. She just handed the bill to us after the second burger came. The fireside has a nice, toasty and huge gas fireplace (cracker barrels have real wood burning). Located on a not well known street, next to a cemetery entrance. What a great place for Halloween. They have a small parking lot which makes it convenient. We had the grilled steak sandwich and banana bread French toast. Excellent, friendly service. My second time here and I'll continue to come to try their other items. read more

What a great place for Sunday brunch! And when that Sunday turns out to be Mother's Day, you can bet that the Fireside puts on a spread that puts all the other's to shame. And the price? Totally reasonable at $22! I met the girls up here for brunch. One in our party had been coming here for years so she was able to score the best table in the place . . .out front on a beautiful sunny day! The food buffet was amazing with all kinds of breakfast and lunch items. But my favorite thing? The build your own Bloody Mary bar! Thank heaven for one of my friends who steered me through the various mix ins, veggies, meats and countless other things I put in my glass so that I actually ended up with a great tasting (eating) drink to go with my amazing brunch! We came for the Easter brunch buffet. They had a nice spread for under $26 per person. Unlike typical hotel buffets, you didn't feel like cattle at the feeding trough. It was real low-key and cool. We sat in the enclosed outdoor patio area (which I assume they open up when the weather gets nicer) which was pretty neat. The food was quite good for a buffet with a lot of interesting (read: different) items. Fried scallops, mussels, and crab cake benedicts were highlights. read more

Really disappointed after years of good experiences... ordered online and checked off "contact free pickup" which was clearly offered along with instructions to call when there and they'd bring it out. Paid and tipped with a card so it should have been quick and simple. It was not and my immune compromised girlfriend ended up being told to go into the bar to pick up food, and after going into the crowded bar full of non-masked people they told her to then go to the dining room. All this to say it really sucks that you guys can't see that you're going to lose customers this way and don't have the decency to follow the plan that you offered up. I've noticed this cute little place a few times while driving by, decided to stop in with a friend for brunch. While the food and service weren't absolutely terrible, it slightly reminded me of a small town cafe, where you excuse all the negatives because it's the only place to go. Unfortunately for this restaurant, it's located in a major city with a ton competition. I had the meat lovers breakfast skillet, my friend had a burger. The skillet was simply "ok", and my friend's burger was about the same. I did get a cocktail and I want blown away, but it was ok. My general consensus is that this place is... "It's just Okay" or "meh" haha... And that would be fine if it didn't have the downfall of being in a huge city, noted that's culinary options. Will I go back? No, probably not. I will say, the service was a little slow, but everyone was so nice and accommodating. read more

Ok I've been here a few times and I think it's time to post a review. Mostly friendly staff, only one bartender seemed to be a little bit chilly. Not a biggie, maybe it was a bad day. The prices are decent, and the location for as small of an area I've never had problems finding parking. They also have a small parking lot adjacent to the bar. Walking in you immediately get the feel of a countryside bar. The few times I was here they played 80's music which I love.... but today it's more of a folksy style of music playing. Oh, wait they just switched to 80's music again. The food- "good." I've had the chicken quesadillas- very good! The buffalo chicken wings, good although my recommendation is get them well done. The fish tacos were much better than I expected. I'm getting a pizza to go for dinner so I'll check back with Yelp on that later. The crowd I've heard can get a bit younger on the weekend but I tend to come earlier in the day say between 1200 and 500pm. The crowd here is very diverse in age and somewhat diverse in culture and ethnicity. I've only had margaritas which are "ok" at best. Maybe I'll try their build your own Bloody Mary during the next brunch. In summary a decent place to stop if you're on your way out and have the time to stop for lunch with or without the family. They have a huge outdoor covered patio in the back with outdoor tables also in the front when weather is more comfortable. Inside is your standard sports bar set up. Wait staff were nowhere to be seen so we walked back to the enclosed patio, and noticed the only other diners, put money on the table, get up and leave, leaving almost full plates of food and unfinished drinks at the table. After finally finding a member of the staff inside, we were directed to seat ourselves. After waiting 10 minutes, no one ever came back to the patio to take our orders or clear the empty table next to us of the uneaten food and drinks. We walked back inside, saw the staff chatting completely oblivious behind an empty bar and left. In the past we've enjoyed brunch, dinner and late nights at Fireside. I found this place while doing some research for Rosehill Cemetery which is right around the corner. First off, the place is larger than it appears from the outside. It has a really cute outside patio in front that had a couple of groups of customers. The building has double French doors that open to the restaurant area and the weather was outstanding for July so we chose the area by the French doors for seating. Our waitress was attentive and the service was pretty fast. Three of us ordered the steak sandwich and one of us had the pulled pork. We ordered our steak medium but all of them were a little overdone and they were a little tough so we ended up using knives and forks. The flavor was good though and the sauteed onions were done nicely. The french fries were really good. I was told the pulled pork was good and the barbecue sauce has a nice kick to be aware if you don't like your sauce too spicy. The bar area was dark but looked like it could be a lot of fun on a weekend night. Outside the back of the bar is another really cute patio area too. There is on-street parking and a parking lot on the side of the building if parallel parking is a challenge for you as it is for me. I would definitely come back here but next time I'll order my steak medium rare. read more

I've been going to Fireside since the 90s but the last visit was the worst bar experience I've had in a long time. Walked in and headed toward the rear patio. Even though there were people sitting i was told that the area was closed. I noticed a couple going over the menu,indicating they just arrived and didn't order yet. So open for them and not me. i go to the bar and the bartender does not even acknowledge me. I'm standing there awkward. Coming here last night reminds me why I live in Chicago, great food, atmosphere, and people. I've never had a meal I didn't love, nor service anything less than on point. Last night was no exception. After finishing an awesome meal, tragedy "struck." The woman bartender, took time from her job to come to my table and asks, "does someone own a motorcycle?" I said, "yes," knowing what was coming next. "It appears someone knocked it over; a passer-by reported it." She escorted me to my bike, where I saw it on its side. Her and another employee offered to help turn it upright. I deferred the help for my own reason. She stood with me for a while just in case. Long story short, there was little damage. Pro tip: don't park behind someone with 10 feet of space to back out, and backs out at 20mph? The bartender just made a friend for life, and I found my new favorite restaurant. read more

Classic mainstay with a solid lineup of beer and food. Fireside has been around since I've been legally able to drink. Open til 4am with a late night liquor license you'll also find a standard bar menu. There are many craft beers on tap and they even have a bottle menu with some seasonal beers. Food is decent but is standard bar food you'll find anywhere. The service is fairly good as we went on a Sunday night and it was a fine place to eat with plenty of TVs. I've been meaning to review the Fireside for months now, but felt that I needed to visit a few more times. I mean, the place has everything possible going for it in my opinion- late bar, wonderful craft beer and Belgian selection, cool decor, and semi-upscale dining. It's a little on the expensive side, but at least after 2am, there aren't any other quality bars open north of Irving Park. I finally figured out what I don't like about the Fireside. It's the regulars. At first, the people who are there seem like quite a diverse bunch, but they have one thing in common- they're rowdy and loud, and some are quick to start fights. Not the crowd you'd expect at a place that isn't a dive. The Fireside just isn't comfortable, I'm on edge the whole time I'm there with an uneasy feeling. You can't hear the waitress or even the person next to you since the place is so loud. read more

I had such high hopes for this place. It's so close to our apartment, and has a wonderful spacious patio that was so nice to sit in. We came for the $2 tacos, but we were told you can only order them if you're eating at the bar. That was fine, but the bar area was dark and crowded, and the bright, open patio was much more attractive. My partner and I ordered the goat cheese marinara appetizer- the bread was stale, over cooked, and dry as a bone. It was cut so thick that getting my teeth through it was actually painful. I could have killed a squirrel with that bread. But enough about the bread (also I would never harm a squirrel). Our waitress was kind enough to bring us some house bread, which was a great thought but an underwhelming substitute. I had hoped my dinner would be better. I ordered the salmon, it was $15. My plate came out with some old looking steamed carrots, mashed potatoes (skins in, which I wouldn't mind if there was any flavor to the potatoes), and a flavorless cut of salmon. I hardly touched it but didn't have the balls to send it back. I liked the gravy they served on the side for the potatoes though... Our meal tasted like the entire spice cabinet pulled a "no call, no show". There were many things listed in the description of our meals that were completely left out. I suppose it's more of a bar, and less of a tavern, but considering the size of the menu and price of the meals, we had expected otherwise. Not my favorite way to spend $45...We left very disappointed. :( read more

Tonight I was reminded exactly why I don't come here and haven't in years. Stopped in after a bad day, no greeting/no smile from female bartender (chalked it up to her having a bad day as well) - just asked for my order. Ordered an $8 shot, paid with a $20. She brings back my change, I leave her a $10 tip (Shut up- I have Industry friends and tip well!). She then proceeds to take the $10, rings me up AGAIN and brings me back $2. ...............................huh? I take the shot, take the $2, walk over to her letting her know she double-charged me and the $10 was her tip. She takes the $2 and says "Oh." ............... Her deer in headlights reaction was my cue to leave, and so I did. I've lived in the neighborhood for decades and will only meet friends here if they have their hearts set on it. As much I like the rich history and physical location, there is never a time when I've left saying "Wow! The service was amazing! Can't wait to go back!" The history and location are the only draws. I've been coming here for YEARS and can honestly say that this place is like a second home. When I walk through the door I'm guaranteed to have a great experience with great service! James is the bartender on the weekends during brunch, which is when I'm usually there. Watching him hustle between the customers at the bar and the tables is impressive to say the least! He does everything he can to make sure everyone has a great experience! You would think that I'd be sick of the menu after so many years, but I'm not! I love that I can order from the brunch menu and/or the dinner menu when I come in before 3. I can't be the ONLY person who likes a burger for breakfast! ;) I'm also a HUGE fan of the build your own Bloody Mary bar! I've had delivery, gone to dinner, gone to brunch, and even hosted a birthday dinner for a friend here! The service is always very nice, the drinks are fun, and the food is pretty good. I loved the old portabella sandwich, but they changed it (for the worse, IMO) a few months back and the veggie burger is gone. Still, pretty enjoyable. The atmosphere is very "neighborhood." It's relaxed and chill. The patio is huge, which means there's usually room for you to enjoy a summer night out there, but the have a retractable roof to protect you from the rain & cold if it's not so great out. If you go for brunch, the bloody mary bar is not to be missed. You can be as simple or as crazy as you want. They have a crazy variery of hot sauces. :) If you join the club you get a card good for discounts, which is a great way to appreciate the regulars! read more
